Challenge of the Force

Summary:

As we know, Ezra went to Tatooine, believing that Obi Wan Kenobi was in danger. This ended up being Maul's trick. But what if it wasn't a trick? What if Ezra had real visions where he was sent to Tatooine for the final battle with Maul and all this was the will of the Force?

Notes:

I know that Ezra probably wouldn't be able to defeat Maul (he has about less 2% success rate), but I still wanted to see them fight with that crazy cockroach where our Blueberry boy comes out on top:))

Chapter 1: Dreams and desicion

Chapter Text

Ezra last met Maul on Dathomir.

The crazy Zabrak then again offered the young man to become his student, to leave his true Master and Sabine in the hands of the spirits of the Nightsisters.

Of course Ezra refused.

He would never become Maul's apprentice.

Even when he himself drew strength from the Sith holocron, he still didn't intend to become the same maniac as Maul.

After this, Maul apparently completely gave up on Ezra and flew away.

Ezra didn't think about Maul anymore...

Until today's events...

On a quiet night, Ezra and Zeb dozed peacefully, until soon the teenager began to frown slightly in his sleep, because strange images began to appear in front of him.

A black figure walks across the deserted land.

A figure in a brown robe sits in front of a fire.

Two setting suns.

Two figures stand opposite each other, one of them lights up a red double-bladed lightsaber.

"KENOBI!!!"

Ezra sat up abruptly.

Quickly looking around, he realized that he was in his cabin, where Zeb was snoring underneath him.

But he also realized something else...

"Maul is back." Ezra whispered to himself, looking at his lap.

The monster he tried to forget is back...

---

In the days that followed, Ezra's thoughts still revolved around his vision.

Planet with two suns.

The other two mysterious figures he saw...

One of them, he was already able to figure out who it was.

Master Kenobi.

He's really alive.

And he is on the planet named Tatooine.

But he couldn't understand who the second figure was.

The image of her is shown so that he could only see Maul and his lightsaber.

And the other figure was blurry...

Could this be Master Kenobi again?...

"Are you still thinking about your vision?" Ezra's thoughts were broken by the voice of his Master.

The young Jedi sighed slightly.

"Uh-huh..." He mumbled.

Kanan silently sat down next to the student, who had been looking at the sunset all this time.

"So what do you think it means, Kanan? Could it be that Master Kenobi is really alive? "

The man sighed.

"Maybe and maybe not. You know that visions are difficult to understand.."

The boy sighed too.

"Yes, I know...and yet it haunts me. What if Master Kenobi could be in danger right now?" Ezra asked worriedly.

"Even if so, we cannot interfere now..."

"But why? Maul is looking for Master Kenobi to kill and we just let it happen?!"

"Ezra, " Kanan's voice has become stricter, "I've told you before, the visions are almost impossible to interpret. You could see another Jedi or even a simple man in a cloak."

"But I know for sure that it was Master Kenobi." Ezra thought to himself, but remained silent.

"And beside, now we must focus on liberating Lothal. We need everyone's help with this, so we must not think about anything else for a while."

Ezra glanced quickly at the man and hung his head, muttering quietly:

"Yes Master."

The quietness in the student's voice made Kanan sigh again. He carefully took off his mask and looked at Ezra with his blind eyes.

"Ezra," His voice was softer now, "I'm only saying all this because I don't want anything bad to happen to you. I almost lost you to Maul many times and I can't let that happen again."

Ezra just nodded.

"I understand, really Master." Ezra replied.

"Good." Kanan nodded before lightly stroking his student's short hair.

"Dinner is coming soon, don't be late, otherwise Zeb will eat your food again." He smiled slightly.

Ezra also responded with a small smile.

"Sure, I’ll just watch the sunset for a little while longer."

"Okay." Kanan replied and started walking back to base.

The boy's smile gradually disappeared, and he sat down again, staring at the setting sun.

Something told Ezra that this vision had a much deeper meaning than he thought....

---

Even the next day his vision still bothered him.

Therefore, he decided to do something that he didn’t particularly like, but something that might help him.

Meditation.

Taking a familiar pose, the teenager allowed himself to open up his mind to the Force and focus his thoughts on his vision.

For a long hour Ezra was patiently immersed in meditation, and although at first he saw nothing...

But then, his vision again appeared before him.

And now it was more clearly seen.

Tatooine's two suns have appeared again.

The cloaked figure in front of the fire raised its head slightly and revealed an old face, but with familiar blue eyes.

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

And then...

Maul appeared again and fought with...

Him...

The green and red lightsaber collided...

And the vision ended.

In shock, the teenager clutched his chest, breathing heavily.

This second figure...was him?

Was he supposed to fight Maul?!...

Remembering his previous experiences with visions, this was bound to happen...

Taking a deep breath and exhaling, the young Jedi stood up and began to think.

He knew full well that he had a weak connection with Maul, even if, as he thought, it was severed on Dathomir.

He also remembered that even though he "disappointed" Maul, he still felt that Maul would return to take him and make him his apprentice.

And most likely he will do so after killing Obi Wan, which Ezra will not allow.

He will stop him.

Of course, he knew perfectly well that the chance of his success was almost zero...

And that otherwise he would be killed by the Zabrak, but...

No..

Perhaps it was his destiny to fight Maul, no matter what the outcome.

Although he had long ago forgiven himself for the events on Malachor, a small part of him believed that he would still have to face the consequences of his actions.

If this is his death, then so be it...

He only hoped for one thing.

That his family will forgive him for this...

And with these thoughts, Ezra took his lightsaber and ignited it.

He needed to prepare for his important fight.

---

Two and a half weeks, Ezra trained hard.

Lightsaber forms, mastery of the Force, meditation.

Ezra persistently perfected all this.

Naturally this attracted the attention of his family, but the Ghost crew believed it was connected with liberation of Lothal.

And plus, Ezra no longer spoke about his vision to Kanan, which made the his Master’s suspicions disappear.

At least for a little.

However, in the end, the day that would become fateful for him came.

The Force showed him the vision again, where he saw even more of his battles with Maul.

Opening his eyes and staring at the ceiling, on Ezra's face determination appeared.

He was ready.

Having quickly scanned with the Force that everyone was fast asleep, the young Jedi silently left the Ghost, having managed to leave his voice message.

The sadness that this might be the last time he sees his family gripped him but he didn't let her control him.

"Emotion, yet peace." Ezra whispered so quietly that it seemed like he didn't say anything.

Having reached the base, he discovered a rebel ship that stood farthest from the base and quickly climbed into it.

"Kanan, Hera...I hope you can forgive me." The young Jedi whispered again and launched the ship.

Soon the ship took off and left the atmosphere of Atollon.

Ezra turned around for the last time to look at the planet and then entered the coordinates of Tatooine.

"It's time to end this, Maul. Once and for all." Ezra told himself, looking bravely out as his ship jumped in the bright blue stripes of Hyperspace.
