Work Text:

Mattheo Riddle quietly slipped into the dimly lit apartment after a long, exhausting Quidditch practice.

The door clicked shut behind him as he kicked off his shoes, taking a moment to relish the silence.

His eyes instinctively sought out Y/N, his roommate, and his heart gave a familiar flutter when he saw her sprawled on the couch, fast asleep.

A soft smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Her blanket, meant to provide warmth, had been unceremoniously kicked off, now lying in a heap on the floor.

Shaking his head fondly, Mattheo approached her, careful not to make any noise. He crouched down, gently lifting the blanket and draping it over her with a tenderness that belied their not-so-close relationship.

As he tucked the blanket around her, Y/N stirred, her eyes fluttering open.

For a brief moment, confusion clouded her gaze before she recognized Mattheo. She blinked up at him, sleep still heavy in her eyes.

"Mattheo?" she murmured, her voice thick with drowsiness. "What are you doing?"

Mattheo's cheeks flushed, caught in the act. "Sorry, you kicked off your blanket," he explained softly. "I didn’t want you to get cold."

Y/N’s lips curved into a sleepy smile, and she nodded, too tired to form a coherent response. She shifted slightly, inadvertently placing her legs across Mattheo’s lap.

He hesitated for a second, his heart racing, but then he decided to go with it, settling into the couch beside her. He grabbed the remote, turning on the TV and lowering the volume to a whisper.

For a while, he watched the screen, though his attention was divided between the show and the warmth of Y/N's legs against his lap. He glanced down at her, finding her already watching him with a soft, curious expression.

"You didn’t have to do that, you know," she said, her voice now more awake. "But thank you."

Mattheo shrugged, trying to play it cool. "It’s no big deal. Just didn’t want you to catch a cold."

She smiled, a genuine, warm smile that made his heart skip a beat. "You’re sweet, Mattheo."

He chuckled, feeling a bit shy under her gaze. "Don’t let anyone else hear you say that."

She laughed softly, and the sound was music to his ears. They fell into a comfortable silence, the low hum of the TV filling the room.

Y/N shifted again, her legs still draped over him, and Mattheo found himself relaxing, enjoying the unexpected intimacy of the moment.

As the minutes ticked by, Y/N's eyelids grew heavy again. She mumbled something incoherent before her breathing evened out, signaling she had fallen back asleep.

Mattheo glanced down at her, his heart swelling with affection. Gently, he brushed a strand of hair away from her face, unable to resist the urge.

He leaned back, careful not to disturb her, and let the peacefulness of the scene wash over him.

For once, he allowed himself to enjoy the closeness, to savor the feeling of having her near. In that quiet moment, with the glow of the TV casting soft shadows around the room, Mattheo Riddle knew that his crush on Y/N was only growing stronger.
