Trina's Voice

Summary:

After the confrontation with Heather, Trina finally confronts Esme over her crimes.

Notes:

After the confrontation with Heather, I felt that one last confrontation with Esme was called for. I hope that you enjoy it!

Work Text:

Trina walked along the hospital corridors, her mind running over that day’s events. The discussion with her mother, and finally her confrontation with Heather where she had let it be known that she was done letting the murderer and her daughter have any power over her! No more walking around in hatred and fear and definitely no forgiveness. That was definitely off the table! Sighing, she entered the chapel, deciding to send a prayer for Kristina and her dead baby, but when she opened the door to the room, she found it all lit up in a hellish red glow, and in front of an upside-down cross was the last person she ever wanted to lay eyes on again.

“Hello, Trin. It’s about time you showed up. I have a torture session in an hour or two, so I don’t have time to spare,” Esme Prince folded her arms over her chest.

“Esme. What are you doing here?” Trina frowned, stepping into the room and feeling hatred rise in her. “It’s bad enough I had to hear your mother put the blame on your father, but now here you are too.”

“Why else am I here? You took and took and took from me, Trina. Now I’m here to finally collect something for myself since my own mother couldn’t do it for me,” Esme smirked, taking a step away from the altar. “You stole my life from me and I want it back.”

Trina rolled her eyes and gave a derisive laugh. “I stole nothing from you, Esme! If anyone stole anything, it was you! You stole from Joss and Cam! You stole from Spencer! Most important of all, you stole from ME! You took what should have been a magical, romantic time with my boyfriend from me so I am not EVER going to forgive you for that! I don’t care how many people stand there and make excuses for you! Ryan didn’t ruin my life! Ryan didn’t take Spencer from me! You did! So yeah. Forgiveness will never be on the table for you! I don’t care who pleads your case! Whether it’s Heather Webber, Laura Collins, or you! You were trash, you are still trash, you will always be trash! Not even the fish in the Seine River would mourn you! I just wish that you took your own ass out instead of taking my Spencer with you! He deserved so much better than that!”

“You didn’t steal anything? So you didn’t steal my boyfriend? You didn’t steal what should have been my family?”

“No, I didn’t. Let’s not forget, I had put Spencer in the friend zone when you showed up. You act like I was pursuing Spencer. I wasn’t. I was ignoring all the feelings I had for him because of you! I am no one’s side chick and I think that pissed you off even more. That I didn’t give you a reason for your jealousy. That I never gave you a reason to do what you did to me.”

“I loved Spencer!”

“No, you didn’t. That’s a bald-faced lie! Because if you loved him, you would never have followed us to Paris. You wouldn’t have drugged him! You wouldn’t have…” The words seemed to disappear from Trina’s throat as if someone...or something had snatched them away. Her eyes widened as she stared at the smirking demon before her.

“What’s wrong, Trina? Cat has your tongue? Don’t you have anything else to say?” Esme grinned evilly, her eyes flashing with malice. “Maybe it’s not a cat...maybe it’s...me. Being dead has so many benefits…”

Trina fought against the burning in her throat that was blocking her words, denying her the right to have her say and she knew that the demonic spirit before her was the reason.

“See, when you don’t have anything worth saying, you can’t say anything. That’s the beauty of my power. I can take your voice and there is nothing you can do about it,” Esme taunted, sauntering up to Trina, her eyes flashing with malicious glee.

“Get away from her Esme!”

Suddenly the room filled with a bright heavenly glow that pushed out the hellish red light that encompanied the taunting demon that was Esme Prince. The burning blockage in Trina’s throat suddenly dissolved and was replaced with a cool sweet sensation that returned the ability to speak. She turned around to see who had spoken and she smiled, relieved. Of course, he’d come to help her, her guardian angel…

“Spencer,” Trina gasped, her smile bright and happy. He looked the part of an angel, dressed all in white and surrounded by a heavenly glow. “You came…”

“Of course. I wouldn’t let you face this she-devil by yourself,” Spencer lovingly smiled, but that smile turned to a scowl when he looked at Esme. “You can finish what you were saying, though. She won’t be able to stop you now. She’s been rendered powerless.”

“How dare you! What did you do?!” Esme screeched in frustration.

“Gave my girl her voice back, that’s what. That’s not all I’m here to do, but first, Trina’s going to have her say so it’s best that you shut up and listen!” Spencer walked up to stand right behind Trina, lending his support. “She’s speaking for both of us after all.”

Smiling in pure satisfaction and vindication, Trina turned around to face Esme once more. “As I was saying. You did not love Spencer! If you did, you wouldn’t have followed us to Paris, you wouldn’t have drugged him, and most important of all, you wouldn’t have killed him! You would have allowed him to live a long happy life with me! You would have allowed him to have not only Paris but his brother and his father and children that he would have had but now, never can because of you! You stole his innocence, his family, you stole his life and I will hate you forever for it! Your mother pleaded for me to forgive you, she blamed all of your crimes on your father, she actually believed that forgiveness was on the table for you, but it’s not! It’s forever off the table for you Esme! I will hate you forever, but I am done allowing that hate of you and fear of her to rule over me! I’m taking my power back starting now so you can go back to hell and burn there!”

Suddenly, a door appeared behind Esme. It creaked open and out stepped Ryan Chamberlain, all dressed in red. He gave his daughter a twisted smile. “There you are! I was looking all over for you. You should have listened to me, Esme. I told you to leave that boy and his friends alone, and now look where you’re heading. It’s time to come with Daddy!”

“What?! No! No, I’m not going with you! I’m not going anywhere! No!” Esme screamed, her hands reaching out to grab at Trina just as Ryan grabbed hold of her and began pulling her towards the door where the red light of flames came from.

Spencer protectively wrapped his arms around Trina pulled her against his chest and took a step back, making sure that she was out of the demon’s reach. “Get out of here, Esme! Never bother Trina again!”

Both Trina and Spencer watched as Ryan dragged the screaming Esme through the door. They both jumped a bit as the door slammed shut behind the struggling father-daughter duo and disappeared, leaving the room draped in only the heavenly white glow that had come with Spencer’s arrival.

Sighing in relief, Trina turned and hugged Spencer, thankful for his presence. “Thank you for coming.”

“I’ll always come for you, Trina. Whenever, wherever,” Spencer kissed the top of her head. “I must say, I am so proud of you. You stood up to both Esme and Heather. You spoke for the both of us and I am so thankful to you for that.”

“I meant what I said. I’ll never forgive them for what they did to us...for what she did to you especially.”

“I know...and now she knows too. She tried to take your voice...but…”

“You wouldn’t let her,” Trina smiled.

“No, you wouldn’t let her. It was your strength, your determination to take your power back. You could have just given up when she took your voice, but you didn’t. You kept fighting.”

“I’ll always fight for you. No matter what,” Trina pledged, pulling away to look into his eyes. “You told me that you were going to love me until the day you die...it’s the same for me, Spencer. I’m going to love you forever and whenever you need me to be your voice...that’s what I’ll be. I promise.”

Spencer’s smile was warm but sad. “My fierce pretty girl. I am indeed in awe of you. Your beauty, your empathy, your compassion, your strength, and most of all, your love. Never let anyone take away your voice...not ever again. Promise me.”

Trina sniffed and nodded her head. “I promise…”

Spencer smiled one last time and dipped his head to kiss her…

….

The sound of her alarm brought her out of the dream and she moaned in frustration. He was about to kiss her and like always, she woke up before their lips could connect. Feeling dazed and confused and sad, Trina glanced at the clock on the bedside table and her eyes fell upon the dove figurine that Spencer had once given her. She picked it up and smiled.

“Some day, Spencer. Some day it will happen. But for now, I’ll live for the both of us. I promise.”
