3 P.M
“Argh, finally home.”
The three fairies sighed, they were tired after a day of resolving an issue here and there in Fairy World and picked up their son from his grandmother's house.
Wanda hated the fact that she had her mother-in-law as a babysitter, but at the same time she didn't want to overload their other boy, especially on a school day.
Luckily, their godson didn't seem to have arrived home yet. Which was strange but not that odd since it was Friday and usually the boys would get an ice cream or fast food.
“Cosmo, get up! We still have some things to do!”
“Give me ten minutes to rest! The party isn't until tomorrow!"
"But we still have to start packing, you lazy bum!"
Tomorrow will be Timmy's eleventh birthday, the four of them are going to have a small celebration.
With a wave of her wand, the woman conjured the things on her list.
“Let me see: Devil's Food Cake, hot dogs, hamburgers, his favorite chocolate chip cookies and the presents. Did I forget something?”
“The fun, woman!” He also waved his wand and conjured his things. “The amusement park, the dragons and the werewolves!”
As expected, two creatures that shouldn't exist appeared inside the room, making the woman put her hand in her face, typical of her husband's madness.
“I SAID NO DRAGONS! AND NO WEREWOLVES!”
“That's why I'm in charge of the fun part!"
“Poof!”
“No, Poof, no mummies."
Before the baby could complain, a noise coming from the living room caught their attention, probably Timmy’s parents, as it was Friday and they normally left early.
The trio was curious and watched from the bedroom door and went to see what the irresponsible people were talking about.
"Look, dear, a note from our son!"
Dear parents
If I'm not at home when you read this, don't worry I'll be at C.A's house, the new boy at school, I'll sleep there and I won't be back until Sunday night.
Ass: T.T
“Honey! Do you know what that means?”
“Yes! We got a child free weekend!”
Of all the irresponsible parents I've ever seen, these two are in my top 3.
Wanda thought, she hated the parents of every child that had ever passed through them, but these two irritated her deep down.
“Let me call Vicky to say she can stay at home.”
“I will pack the bags! Las Vegas weekend here we go!”
“Isn't it wonderful? And on Monday we can celebrate Tommy's birthday without any problem!”
Correction, they are the first on the list.
Of all the parents who had ever been to the duo, no matter how absent or crazy they were, they rarely forgot their child's birthday.
But Timmy's parents seem to have deleted the date of their heads and vaguely remember when it was.
In less than ten minutes the two were out of the house heading to a Las Vegas cassino. As soon as they left, they went to the kitchen to better investigate the
No contact number or an address on that piece of paper.
“That 's weird.”
“Who is C.A?
The couple knew all of his friends, and Timmy would tell them if he met anyone new and made friends.
“Did Timmy say anything about this boy to you?”
“Nah.”
“Something that's not right."
"I agree! Let's go! We need to know who and where this boy came from!”
“Wait, where's Poof?"
The two looked around, that was all that was missing.
“Oh, great.”
Now, their two boys are missing.
While this was happening, the baby fairy had noticed a strange movement coming from the treehouse, as if there was someone there.
Well, he wasn't in the mood to wait for his parents to see what was going on.
“Poof?”
The boy asked, and huddled in the corner of the wall, there was his older brother, Timmy Turner.
“Hey, lil bro.”
“Poof!”
“So you were the one who found me first?”
“Poof.”
Timmy carefully wrapped his little brother in his arms, protecting him like a little treasure. He gently rocked his little brother, singing a random lullaby.
“Poof, you're so lucky to have Cosmo and Wanda as your real parents, you know?”
“Poof.”
“And me as your older brother too? Thanks, bud.”
“Timmy! Poof! There you are!”
The two were taken aback when they saw the two fairies, probably because their GPS had located them.
“We were worried!”
“Oh, hey, guys.”
“What is happening? Any danger? Don't worry, Timmy, I will protect us!”
With that, the fairy transformed into a giant fire-breathing dragon, but Wanda was faster and transformed it back, teleporting them back to the room.
“Cosmo, chill.” The woman said, rolling her eyes. And she turned to the boy, to hear some explanations that he owed her. "Why did you make all this up?”
“I'm sorry, I invented this "new friend" because I wanted to see if they would act like you, that at the very least they would find it strange and look for me or something, but apparently, my birthday and I are always less important than a childfree weekend.”
“Honey, you know that's not true.”
"YES IT IS! I'M THE LAST THING THEY CARE ABOUT!"
That was enough to make his eyes instantly water, and he threw himself into the arms of his godparents, and between sobs he managed to formulate to say something.
“They don't care about me!”
The sentence that had been stuck in his throat for so long had finally taken shape. The most painful thing he had to accept, that his parents really didn't give a damn about him.
After a while he finally calmed down and looked at them, the three of them were his family and even though year after year he knew he was closer to losing them, he knew he would never forget this, that somewhere in his life he was loved and had two parental figures who wouldn't trade him for a weekend in Vegas.
His younger brother conjured a handkerchief for him to wipe his face.
“Thanks, lil brother.”
"How about we have a movie night and celebrate your birthday tomorrow?"
“This sounds good. Wanda?”
“Yes, Sport?”
“Can we have ice cream for dessert, please?”
“In this situation, there's nothing better than that.”
“And fried food.”
“Poof!”
That was what he wanted, to spend time with them.
“You guys are the best.”
SOME YEARS LATER
“Mom! Dad!”
“Peri!”
Well, with all the mess with Dev, he had been left homeless, but thankfully he always had his parents' house to go back to.
He had finally found time to visit his parents at their new address.
And actually walking with two legs was difficult for those who were used to floating.
“We just arrived, Did you know there is a place selling fried food around the corner?”
“And another convenience store with overpriced coffee?”
“That seems nice.”
“Come on, I can't wait to show you, your room!
“Oh, sorry. But could you help me?”
The three turned around and saw a familiar face, only older.
Timmy Turner, without a shadow of a doubt.
“Could you tell me where that address is?” The young man asked, showing his cell phone. "My GPS lost signal."
“Oh, let me see.” Wanda took charge of the situation by looking for a second. “It's the building next door.”
“Thanks, my name is Timmy Turner, by the way. You are?”
“I’m Wanda.” She said, extending her hand, and the boy shook it. “That's my husband Cosmo and my son Peri.”
Timmy blinked his eyes, and studied them for a moment as if trying to remember something.
“That's a weird coincidence, I used to have golden fishes with that name, with the exception of their son I think his name was Poof, but Peri is a cool name.”
“Are you moving here?”
"Temporarily, I came first because I'm waiting for my house to be ready so I rented an apartment, while my wife is in another state with our children until the end of the school year, but the plan is to see them every two weeks until the house is finished and my job transferred me to here."
“Cool, What's your job?”
“Game development. I'm here to search and get information for our next game."
“That's pretty cool.”
“Thanks, I have loved games since forever, so it's kind of the dream job for me.”
Some passions never change
“Changing the subject, do you know where there is a good take out restaurant? I'm hungry from all this moving stuff.”
“Oh, I think I have some chocolate chip cookies.”
“Ah, it would be amazing. I accepted some if you don't mind.”
"Just a minute."
Wanda rummaged through her purse and discreetly conjured some.
“There you go, Sport.”
“Sport?”
“Sorry.” She cursed herself internally for calling him that. “Some habits are hard to kill, you reminded me of someone.”
“No problem.”
As soon as he took a bite of the cookie, a few tears ran down his face.
“Sorry. I didn't think I would be so emotional, this one is really good, it reminds me of the ones I ate when I was younger.”
“Glad you liked it.”
“Here.”
Cosmo discreetly conjured a handkerchief and handed it to him, who merely nodded in thanks. Peri in the meantime conjured a small pot containing more of them.
“You can have the pot, you can return later. We live in the next building, on the third floor.”
“Thanks, guys.” The man said, pulling himself together and turning around to see that the moving truck had arrived. “If you'll excuse me, I'm going to have to finish cleaning up the mess. Thanks again for the cookies.”
“Come on, let’s go up.”
Cosmo had whispered to them, as he placed his hand on his wife's shoulder, who had not held back a tear or two.
So they went up to the apartment.
“Did you like it?"
It was the first thing they asked when they showed their son the room.
“Yeah, it's very nice.” The young fairy noticed on the nightstand next to the bed, a photo of them. Of all four of them. “There's no way we can go back to being a family of four again, right?”
“Unfortunately not, sweetheart.”
Humans grew old and were not eternal. That was one of the first things he had learned.
“Dev kinda reminds of him, Mom. Absent parents, wishes one crazier than the other and the frustration of not having anyone around all the time.”
This was one of the reasons why he couldn't fully hate his former godson, it was his irresponsible father's fault, trying to fill his son's void with a mountain of money and ego, instead of love and affection.
“It’s hard, I know.” She said, it was never easy.
“I think I'll go for a walk." The young man said changing the subject, he wanted to clear his mind a little. "Get to know the neighborhood.
“Okay, but don’t go that far.”
“And activate your locator!"
"I'm not a kid anymore!"
When he got to the door, he came across his brother again who was about to ring the bell to return the pot.
“Hi, Peri.”
“Oh, hi again, Ti- I mean Mr.Turner.”
“Please, call me Timmy.” The young man said, holding out the empty pot. "I came to return this.”
“Have you already eaten everything?”
“Yeah, I was really hungry and they were delicious, thank your mother for me.”
It seemed he still had a sweet tooth.
"Were you leaving?"
"I was going for a walk." He said, picking up the pot and leaving it on the entry table. “Bye, Mom and Dad!
“Bye, sweetie.”
“Bye, my little baby boy.”
“Mom! Dad!”
Somewhat irritated, he closed the door, rolling his eyes, while the other laughed softly.
“Can I walk you to the entrance?"
“Yeah, sure.”
So the two of them went to the elevator, where they started a little dialogue.
“Do you live nearby too?"
“Kinda, I had to move with them after my job went wrong, I'm waiting for a transfer, they both said I could move with them.”
“You seem to have a good relationship with your parents.”
“Yes, I do. Although they are overprotective and clingy, they are the best.” Peri thought for a moment before saying the next words. “Except for my older brother, me and my parents haven't seen or spoken to him in years, he kind of forgot about us."
“I kind of understand that.”
Peri hold his breath for a moment before hearing the next words.
“Actually I also don't talk to my parents anymore, I bet they probably don't even know that I came back to the country years ago, they probably think I still live abroad gladly far away from them.”
Apparently even after years the relationship between them inevitably got much worse, not even all magic in this world could fix that. Not that it was anything surprising
“Ah man, sorry to hear that. It sucks.”
“Yeah, it sucks, but I'm grateful to have my wife and her family, they're kind to me."
“That 's good.”
The elevator doors opened and before they reached the entrance Timmy's phone rang.
“So, bye Peri.” He said goodbye and answered the phone. “Oh, Hi love-”
Peri stared at him until he disappeared from her field of vision, knowing that even if they became friends, they would never be the close brothers they once were.
That was another thing magic couldn't do anything about.
“Bye, Big Brother. I hope you're more happy now.”
It really was painful.
