Work Text:

The soft, overgrown grass crinkled under dippers feet as he walked through the meadow, on his way home. He had just returned from a forest meeting about the humans deforestation spreading it's way towards his part of the forest, and it had worried him quite a lot. He walked through the large carved door of his sequoia tree home, not even noticing Bill floating, too worried about what was gonna happen next.
--------------------
"Those humans sure know how to crash a party, ay Pinetree?"
"Shut up," Dipper hissed, dropping his satchel with a heavy sigh. Bill floated closer, waggling a finger under the strap.
"I mean, seriously! And I thought *I* was the perfect wedding crasher! Those guys are encroaching on the party of PARTIES this time-!"
"I said, shut UP!" Dipper bares his teeth, eyes flexing a dangerous light that (were Bill anyone else) would send even the bravest creatures running for the hills. Hills, he swallows, if there ARE hills after this. "This isn't funny, Bill, so just-. Just shut up, okay? I'm not in the mood."
Bill crosses his arms, looking like he might say something, before saying nothing. Then he DOES say something. "Don't tell me to shut up."
--------------------
And Dipper is reminded that the demon is dangerous in his own right. His voice takes on the quality of nightmares that makes Dipper shudder.
"Fine, sorry, okay?" He tries to hide the shake in his voice, but he knows Bill can hear it. He likes listening for that sort of thing. "You know what I'm up against. I'm not stupid enough to think you're 'on my side' or anything like that, but could you at least, I don't know, act like you're capable of sympathy?"
Bill's in a mood, excited by Dipper's distress like blood in the water to a shark. "Oh, Pine Tree. Pine Tree, Pine Tree, Pine Tree." His eye softened in what had to be mock sympathy. "'What you're up against?'" he repeated, sounding vaguely amused. "Annihilation? Your existence and way of life as you know it disappearing? The feeling of powerlessness as beings that should be like ants beneath your feet rising together to bring destruction to things they could never understand?"
"All *right,* Bill. I don't need this right now. Sorry I snapped at you. Leave me alone." Dipper resented Bill when he got like this. He was skilled at hitting where it hurt, like pressing on every bruise in Dipper's id.
"You wanted my support," Bill said, shrugging. "I'm giving my support. Acknowledging your pain. You like that, don't you?"
Dipper pushed him and he floated away in a lazy spin.
"Existence as you know it is coming to an end," Bill reiterated. "Is that so bad?"
"Yes, of course it is!"
"Is it?"
