Kyoujurou always worried for his fellow hashira. So when he heard Giyuu had come down with a nasty flu. Shinbou had told the master at the latest meeting. She had treated him and sent him to rest in his home and to come back to her for a checkup when he was feeling better.
So when a week passed and he couldn't focus even during the meeting, worried sick over Giyuu. He decided it would be a good idea to pay a visit to his comrade.
When Kyoujurou heard Giyuu had fallen sick after returning from a mission. He didn't hesitate to drop what he was doing to head right over to the butterfly mansion. He didn’t worry when Giyuu went on missions. He is a very capable slayer and his strength was commendable. Kyoujurou would call himself the luckiest man to be able to share the space Tomioka Giyuu kept for himself. He cherished their joint time and space together.
Once Kyoujurou made it to the mansion he rushed through the halls. Giyuu was always tucked away in his own corner of the mansion. Him and shinobu had agreed on this arrangement so he would get his check ups and still have his privacy. He always found their dynamic quite interesting. They bickered like little kids or better yet like siblings. Kyoujurou slowed his steps as he made it closer to the room. He could hear small snickering as he got closer.
“I told you to be more careful.” A soft voice could be heard just outside the door. It had a tone of worry and a bit of humor.
“You were the one who insisted on me coming straight here after missions;” Giyuu’s voice was a bit hoarse and Kyoujurou had to strain a bit to hear his lover. “It wasn’t my fault there was a storm last night.” There was some shuffling and glass clicking.
“Well you being so stubborn of course you would walk through a storm.” When he didn’t hear Giyuu reply he decided this would be a good time to enter.
“Sorry for the intrusion! I’ve come to check on my fellow comrade.” Kyoujurou kept a big smile and he did a once over on Giyuu. He didn’t wait a second longer before making his way to the side of the bed.
“It’s nothing serious?” He turned to shinobu looking for validation and reassurance.
“Nothing serious Rengoku though I wouldn't advise being so close to him without a mask or gloves. He could be contagious.” Shinobou seemed to snicker at her own joke because when he turned to Giyuu he just rolled his eyes. When Giyuu’s eyes landed on Kyoujurou, it was night and day blending. A soft smile lay on Giyuu’s lips.
“I’m sorry to have worried you.” Kyoujurou held his hand and picked up Giyuu’s chin for their eyes to meet again. “You can’t control you getting sick. But next time you should be more careful.” Giyuu gave a nod before Kyoujurou placed a soft kiss on his lips. Smiling ever so brightly as he watched his lover's cheeks flush.
“Well, it seems I've done all I can;” Shinobou interrupted dramatically. She walked over to the bedside table placing water and some medicine. “If the pain becomes unbearable, take these. Other than that you'll have to burn the fever off. Now I'm off to take care of other things. Have fun with you two but not too much fun.” Neither of them missed the teasing tone in her voice or the wink she sent their way before closing the door behind herself.
Kyoujurou ran his fingers through Giyuu’s hair as he laid in the bed. Giyuu tracing his other hand. Both soothing each other, minds drifting. They made idle conversation, something to distract from the high fever Giyuu was burning through.
“Love, why didn’t you settle at a wisteria house instead of walking in the rain.” Giyuu stopped playing with Kyoujurou’s hand looking up at him before resuming the motion. At first all he saw was Giyuu’s lips move but no sound.
“Can you speak up, love?” Giyuu took a deep breath and now was holding Kyoujurou’s hand.
“I wanted to get back sooner for you.” At this confession Kyoujurou was overjoyed but he also worried.
“You shouldn’t put yourself in those positions, I'll always be waiting for you no matter how long it takes for your return.” Not once did he stop running his fingers through Giyuu’s hair knowing it calmed the other man. Kyoujuro placed his forehead to Giyuu’s and let out a soft sigh, placing a small kiss at his temple. He raised his head to look into those blue eyes that seemed to hold the ocean. And he was always ready to take a dive.
“I know you think you have to work harder or put yourself in a position so you can prove yourself.” Kyoujurou and him had this talk often but Giyuu always felt like he had something to prove. He had to prove he was worthy of standing with his fellow hashira. Worthy to stand next to Kyoujurou.
“But I do. I have to be stronger. One day everyone is gonna realize I was never meant to stand with all of you. One day you're gonna wake up and realize you deserve so much better than me.” Tears ran down his face slowly as he met Kyoujurou’s eyes. Bright and strong like the morning sun's rays. He brought a hand to Giyuu’s cheek and wiped the tears away with a soft smile, he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his lips. Their eyes closed before both the night and morning sun met each other's gaze.
“You have proved yourself time and time again. I love you for what you have done. For what you have already proven to be true each and every time. You are worthy of your position. You are one of our strongest members and everyone would attest to this.” He paused, brushing a strand of Giyuu’s hair behind his ear, an ever growing smile on his face as he watched the waves in his lover's eyes.
“I have never felt more deserving of anything until I met you. My heart has been set ablaze with every look, touch and moment with you Giyuu.”
“Kyoujurou…”
He leaned down once more, capturing the lips of the man he loved like it was breathing. Never doubting that the sun will chase the moon. That day will rise time and time again. The sun will shine and the moon will cast light even when it's dark.
They pulled apart and just with a smile, Kyoujurou would be thanking the heavens and the earth for giving him the chance to love this man.
