Work Text:

“I don’t think,” a soft voice tumbles into the grass, “I’ll ever be this happy again.” Sunlight herself walks to her feet, standing in the dark night sky. It’s in the moon’s nature to reflect the light the sun creates, but the warmth spreading across its milky surface is, for once, overwhelming. Luna feels herself glowing red hot. Oh, so loved, and a bit dazed. Subaru draws nearer and nearer, closing the distance between their orbits before gently taking her place at the princess’ side.

She’s warm- actually, almost painfully so. Luna can’t look straight at her, but it really isn’t as if she needs to, anyways. Subaru has always had a presence beyond her physical body. She’s in the warm wind that follows her when she enters a room, the smile that copies and pastes itself onto Luna’s face when their eyes meet. Warmth encircles her arm; Luna looks down to find hands like filaments coiling around.

“Well, I don’t think we’ve peaked.” The sun pulls the moon closer. “If anything, we have forever to figure us out, so isn’t it more likely we’ll be even happier? Are you saying you’ll be unhappy with me by your side?”

“All that time by your side… y’see, I don’t know.”

“Huh?! Why? Didn’t we just- like- aren’t we a thing now?!” Some kind of desperation kicks in as the sun holds on tighter- hot winds encircling a tiny hand.

“…Because y’gotta have a brain to be happy, and I’m pretty sure bein’ yer girl and hanging witcha all the time’s gonna melt my brain through my nose or sum’n.”

Notes:

This would've been my HoloWriTo submission, but I just couldn't figure out how to expand it past this. It's just a short vignette, but I hope it makes you smile.

This is also the first actual fic I've posted on this account, and actually, the first actual fic I've posted... ever. Hello!
