Coming Home to You

Summary:

Ajax is late in coming home from his short mission. Kaeya knows he's hurt, but he also knows he's okay and will be back with him and their kids again soon. He looks after him once he finally makes it back, and delivers some big news.

Notes:

y'all. I don't really do omegaverse type stuff, and I don't really do mpreg either. not since I kinda left it behind in middle school

but when I tell you that this one zhongkaechi fanfic fucking RUINED my brain, I am so dead serious. this isn't even funny anymore. it has infected me so severely. wtf (in the BEST way possible)

(or whatever the ship name is between zhongli/kaeya/childe idek anymore)

((which. like. on that note? the way I don't usually care for three-way couples personally but it just worked so damn well in that fic??? and continues to fuck me up????? god my brain is just... UGH-))

*ahem*

anyways here have some family fluff to balance out the downright depressing last one-shot thing I wrote, this would not leave me alone and I think maybe it's time I atone for my sins of constantly making these two suffer lmao, this was stuck in my head and would not go away while I was trying to work on the main poor fic getting neglected so it's on paper now

Work Text:

The world blurred.

Spun.

Swam before his eyes.

Foul Legacy was laughing. Cackling.

Ajax could see blood on the ends of his spear. His claws.

Could taste copper in his teeth. And he knew it wasn’t his own.

Those Abyss Heralds dared to threaten his hometown.

Dared to threaten his mate. His pack. His home.

Big mistake.

He tore through the mages they called in for backup.

Tore through the heralds.

No one would take his family away.

No matter what it cost him, they had to be okay.

And Foul Legacy was always ready to pay.

“...when’s papa going to come home?”

Kaeya set aside his current knitting project and pulled the anxious four-year-old into his arms, running his fingers carefully through her bright orange hair. “Soon, Kira. Soon.”

The girl lay her head against his chest as he settled her in his lap. “But… you’ve been saying that since yesterday. What if… what if something happened…?”

“Your papa is a very, very strong man.” Kaeya squeezed her little hand, giving her a reassuring smile. “He might be late. It might be a long, long time. But he’ll always come back home to us, because he loves us and he will always come home so he can keep protecting us. You’ll see.”

She didn’t look all that convinced. All Kaeya could do was squeeze her tightly.

“...is Ruslan really gonna go to work, just like papa one day…?”

Kaeya sighed at the mention of her oldest brother. “He’s only ten right now, Kira. If he does decide to join, it’s a long, long time from now, when he’s big and strong and grown-up, too.”

“But then he’s gonna be gone for a long time!” Her eyes watered. “Just like papa!”

“They’re away for a long time to keep us safe.” He explained for what must be the millionth time (and knew he would happily explain it however many more times it took, if it helped). This wasn’t abnormal - if his Ajax was gone for even a day longer than expected, Kira took it very poorly. It seemed like she’d inherited Kaeya’s tendency to worry and fret over loved ones, and for now, didn’t have a great way of managing it on her own. Ajax always told him not to baby her and help her work through her worries or distract her, but Kaeya found it impossible not to hold her tight to try and make it all better on days like this where it hit her especially bad - she was only four, after all. It seemed like hugs and calm explanations were a perfectly reasonable middle ground. “There are big, nasty, mean things out there that will hurt us if they get close. That’s why papa has to leave sometimes.”

“But… but what if he’s hurt, mama?”

Kaeya brushed the tears from her cheeks, heart clenching at just the thought. “You can feel it, if your mate gets hurt. If something happened to him, I would know already.”

“So he’s… he’s okay…?”

“Yes, sweetie.” Kaeya gave her another smile as she dared to look up at him, with bright blue eyes that match his own. “He’s on his way home.”

“But, when’s he-,”

“As soon as he can.” He cut her off as kindly as he could. “You’ll see, baby. He’ll be home soon. And that’s all that matters, isn’t it?”

Kira nodded after a minute. She still seemed unsure, so Kaeya simply hummed a tune as he reached around for the wool throw blanket he’d finished knitting just over a week ago and wrapped it around her, leaning back and hugging her tightly.

His eyes wandered to the window on his right, opening out into the back garden. At the height of spring, the weather outside was beautiful and their plants were really growing in, most beginning to flower and bloom. He could see Ruslan running around outside with his mop of dark blue hair sticking out from all the greenery, taunting the blonde twins by jumping just out of reach whenever one got too close to tagging them in their game of Hydro-Cryo. Right now, it looked like Matvei was the one with the blindfold and calling out ‘Hydro!’ every few minutes or so, and Kaeya could see how he went right for Ruslan unless Masha was audibly closer. It was nice to see her running around with them - she’d called Ruslan some terrible names last week and he’d refused to let her play with him and Matvei for a while afterwards. She’d served her time-out and had even apologized to him without Kaeya prompting her to, had explained what she did wrong and why it was wrong and asked him for forgiveness. Ruslan had said it was okay, but had continued to exclude her until Kaeya spoke to him about it. Begrudgingly, he’d let her back into his games with Matvei, and by the end of the night, they were back to laughing like nothing had happened.

Though he’d been honest with Kira in saying he’d feel it if something happened… he hadn’t been entirely truthful, either.

He’d woken up this morning in a cold sweat, feeling his heart pounding and aching, even though he’d been asleep and very much not in the middle of a nightmare of any kind. He’d pulled on the mating bond between himself and Ajax, reached for it, grasped for it like a lifeline - and Ajax, after a minute that stretched for eternity, pulled back.

He was hurt. Kaeya could feel it, in every part of his soul. Which was really, really bad news… but it meant that he was still alive, which is good news. And even more good news was that he hadn’t felt that wave of terror ever since.

Which is really, really good. Because it meant that Ajax was on his way home. He needed him home, and he needed him home really, really soon. Because in the two months he’d been gone, Kaeya hadn’t gone through a heat cycle - which either meant he was more stressed with his absence than he realized, or it meant something really, really good. Something that would become incredibly bad incredibly quickly if he ever got news that Ajax wasn’t ever coming home.

He knew he was an unbelievably capable fighter. He’d seen him in action before, in the days when he still knew him only as Lord Tartaglia, as the man that brought destruction and chaos with him everywhere, as Her Majesty’s weapon and right-hand man, as the man that was unreasonably down bad for him the first time they lay eyes on one another. Kaeya hadn’t expected to find a friend among the Fatui, especially so soon after the passing of Crepus and his expulsion from the Ragnvindr family. He’d found him when Kaeya was at his lowest point, found him passed out between buildings in Liyue after trying to drink away his first heat outside of home. Honestly, Kaeya had assumed the worst when he woke up alone in a strange bed and in a strange room - but then, he was still in his wrinkled clothes he remembered, nor did he have a mating bite on his neck or traces of being bred. He found Tartaglia pacing in the living room anxiously, saw the relief on his face, as if he truly had been worried.

Kaeya had never heard of alphas who could keep their cool in the same apartment as an omega in heat. The self-restraint and discipline was the first thing that won him over. His charm, humor, and easy-going nature had been the second thing. But the nail in the coffin for him was seeing how tender he was with his loved ones, and how he tore anyone apart that dared to hurt them, to threaten them, to even look funny in their general direction. Kaeya made the mistake of making a quick run to his nearest grocery store the day before his heat was due to kick in. They were roommates at the time, with a physical side of a relationship that was starting to get murky with feels. Some asshat made the mistake of trying to coerce Kaeya back to his place, he tried to run back home because he really didn’t want any trouble with him, and that asshat learned the hard way what happens to people who cross paths with Tartaglia’s close ones uninvited.

Tartaglia held nothing back that night. Kaeya saw his brutality up close. It scared the shit out of him. He had half a mind to leave, because if he ever snapped at him, he was done for. Any normal person would have left. Maybe it was the hormones, maybe it was his own insanity, but when Tartaglia turned to face him and found him shaking, he had spoken to him so tenderly. So lovingly. Had wrapped a blanket around him and told him that everything was okay. That he’d look after him. Protect him.

Kaeya begged Ajax to stay with him, to take him back to his nest and stay. Not just tonight, but the following nights after that, too. Every night, if he wanted it. Ajax didn’t refuse him, brought him back to his space, took him as Kaeya let him in, took him every night after. And the rest was history.

Maybe it was fast and rushed and very much driven by emotion and instinct alone, but… Kaeya was still yet to regret it.

The past eleven years had been a rollercoaster, sure… but he wouldn’t have it any other way. How could he, when any other way meant he didn’t have his precious four little ones to call his own?

…Though, perhaps it might be five, soon.

He gazed down at Kira, chuckling as he found her dozing in his arms. Careful as he picked her up - as he didn’t want to wake her, nor did he want to strain his back - he carried her back to her room, which she shared with Masha.

If she was tired, then he’d let her nap for an hour. He didn’t want her messing up her sleep schedule too much, though - she had enough trouble with that at night, with her papa gone. Just a little while before he started work on tonight’s dinner. Enough to give her the boost to get through the day. He knew perfectly well how tiring it was to be so worried that he cried, and could only imagine how exhausting it must be for a four-year-old still learning how to regulate her emotions - she was free to take her time this slow Saturday if she needed it.

She was still asleep as he tucked her in, pressed a kiss to her forehead, and pulled the curtains shut. He left her door cracked ajar, before returning to his knitting project - a scarf, an identical one to what Ajax had set off with. He was hoping that he could switch between scarves whenever he left, that something with his scent might soothe Kira’s anxieties. He’d have Ajax give it to her, give it a little extra special meaning to it, and swap between scarves when he traveled - he didn’t want Ajax without one, after all, and this way, everyone was happy.

He just had to wait until his mate was finally home again. It was all he could do. He needed to keep everything under control and running as usual in their home, needed to look after their kids, needed to keep everything cozy and ready and so full of love that his exhaustion melted away when he was home again. He’d been gone for longer periods of time before - they could endure this.

Ajax was on his way. It was only a matter of time.

“Mama! Come quick, there’s something wrong-!”

Kaeya was already out of his seat and practically sprinting towards the sound of Ruslan’s alarmed voice by the front door.

“What’s going-?” His eyes fell on Ajax slumped against Ruslan, who - despite being rather tall for his age, was still only ten years old and shook as he struggled to keep his papa up. Kaeya rushed to take Ajax off him, looping his limp arm over his shoulder . “Ruslan, go be with your sisters and brother for a while. Don’t let them in unless there’s an emergency, and if they ask, tell them mama has a surprise. Don’t tell them papa’s home yet.”

Ruslan, bless him, was still helping to get his papa over to the couch. “Is he gonna be okay?”

Kaeya tried to be careful as he lay him down. “Yes, he’ll be fine. But I really need you to do as I asked. Can you do that for me?”

Ruslan nodded, hurrying out. “Okay! But if you need help, then call me.”

“I will, dear. Go!”

Ruslan was out the backdoor into their garden, and Kaeya rushed to take note of all his injuries.

…It was nothing he couldn’t handle. Nothing he hadn’t learned how to care for. Nasty, but nothing he couldn’t treat.

Kaeya rushed to clean and care for his wounds, making sure to wash his steady hands before he went to work. He was worried to high hell and back, of course he was - but he couldn’t allow it to cloud his judgment. That worry is what spurred him to learn how to care for his mate to begin with, in case of situations exactly like this - if that worry is what left him unable to help him, then it would all be for nothing.

He worked quickly and efficiently as he bandaged and stitched wounds together, relieved to see no signs of infection. Had to rip through his clothes and peel away sections so caked in blood that it stuck to his skin, like glue. Were it not for the foreign scents, for that horrible, corrupted tang of Abyss blood that reeked from many of these patches, Kaeya would be - understandably - far more panicked. But much of this wasn’t Ajax’s blood. Wasn’t from his injuries. It really looked worse than it was in actuality.

He hated that Ruslan saw him like this. But he’d soon see that his papa was okay and looked after. And it’s not like he could shield him from this sight forever, not if he still wanted to follow in Ajax’s footsteps. He hoped he wouldn’t, but he knew he couldn’t stop him and keep the nastiest parts of the world hidden away from him forever. All he could do was hope that Ruslan kept quiet and didn’t tell his siblings. Because he didn’t want them to panic, and he didn’t want them to see their papa like this. Knew that Ajax didn’t want them to see him like this, either.

Kaeya was checking that the last of the bandages were firmly in place when Ajax stirred, eyes squinting from the late afternoon sunlight streaming in. “...Kaeya?”

“I’m here, darling.” Kaeya was already hurrying to pull the curtains shut, wanting his beloved as comfortable as he could get right now. Had quickly returned to hold his face in his hands. “I’m here.”

Ajax slumped again - this time, with relief, under his loving mate’s gentle touch. “...I’m home.”

He couldn’t help his laugh. “I know. Welcome home.”

As Ajax’s eyes found his, a soft smile rose up to his face, and Kaeya’s heart melted all over again. He could never get tired of that warmth blossoming in his chest when he saw that look in his face, that adoration in his eyes.

Kaeya lowered himself to sit on the very edge of the couch, leaning down to give him a slow, gentle kiss. The beginnings of a purr rumbled deep in his chest, and as Ajax reached up to cradle the back of his head, he didn’t bother to hide it as it became audible.

His mate chuckled against him, before pulling back, just enough to speak. “I’m sorry for scaring you, Kaeya. I took a pretty nasty hit… I hope I didn’t worry you too much.”

Kaeya buried his face in his neck, breathing in the smell of pine and cinnamon. The smell of home and safety. “You’re home. That’s all that matters.”

Ajax loosed a deep breath. “I didn’t scare Ruslan too much, did I?”

“If you did, he hid it really well.” Kaeya smiled as pride swelled in his chest. “He carried you in like he’s been doing it for years, even though he’s so much smaller than you. I didn’t know he had that in him.”

“Why wouldn’t he?” Ajax laughed. “He’s my son, so he’s going to take after me, isn’t he?”

Kaeya pressed a delicate kiss against the mating bite mark on his neck, and Ajax shivered - he pulled back before he could get too worked up. “I know, but.. Still. He did such a good job, Ajax. I wish you were conscious to see it.”

The redhead sat up slowly, wincing in pain. Kaeya knew better than to insist he stay laying down by now. “How are the others? Kira wasn’t too worried, was she?”

“She was okay the first day.” Kaeya sighed. “She was pretty upset yesterday, though. She’ll be thrilled to see you home.”

“Where are they all right now?”

Kaeya inclined his head towards the back door. “In the garden. I asked Ruslan to stay with them for a little bit, while I took care of your injuries.”

He smiled, giving him an appreciative kiss. “Thank you, darling.” Then laughed as Kaeya gave him an inquisitive look. “You take such good care of our kids and home, while I’m away. And then you take such good care of me, too, when I come back… I don’t know what I did to deserve such a good mate like you.”

Kaeya’s face burned, but every last nerve ending was singing with joy at the praise. Damn right, he was a good mother and mate, and Ajax knew it. Knew it, felt it! “...Do you want to rest on your own, for a while more? Or do you want to see the kids?”

“You forget who you’re talking to.” Ajax laughed once again, kind and heartfelt. “I want nothing more than to see everyone. But… help me get changed first?” He glanced down at the remaining scraps of fabric that used to be his shirt. “I don’t want them to see me… you know. Bloody and hurt like this.”

Kaeya rubbed the tip of his nose with his own, before finally pulling back and away from him. “Of course, dear. Hang tight for a second.”

“Thank you, Kaeya.” He gave him a stupidly lovestruck smile straight out of the world’s cheesiest romance novel, and Kaeya soaked up the sight. “Really. Thank you.”

He gave him his own warm smile, and hurried back to their room, pulling neatly-folded clothes out of his drawer and helping him get changed.

His mate was home. He was back where he belonged.

Everything was okay.

“Papa!”

“You’re home!”

“You’re back!”

“Papa’s okay!”

Ajax laughed as their four kids rushed up to greet him - Kaeya knew it hurt like a bitch for them to be scrambling to give him hugs and for him to be moving so he could wrap them all up in his arms at once, but the pain didn’t seem to register. Not through the joy and affection flooding from him, as if his heart were too full and it came pouring out by the bucket full.

“Of course I’m back!” Kaeya smiled fondly as Ajax kissed each of them on the tops of their heads. “I always come back, remember? Oh, I missed you all so much…”

Kaeya allowed their little ones to rattle off about what they’d been up to in the last two months. Kira rambled about her progress on learning how to read, Masha proudly proclaiming she’d only been put in time-out five times while he was out, Matvei going off about his caterpillars finally emerging as butterflies that he got to release last week, and Ruslan eager to show him his improvement in archery. He found a purr rumbling in his chest again as he claimed a seat in the armchair across from the couch Ajax currently lay on, wanting to give the kids space to squeeze in with their papa as he listened to their news and cheered their progress and told them just how proud he was of them all.

Kaeya could never tire of this atmosphere. Could never tire of their warm bubbliness, could never tire of the childhood wonder they grew through, could never tire of his mate’s proud and adoring expressions. He could spend the rest of his life like this, could spend the rest of his years giving his babies the childhood he and Ajax never truly got.

Yes, it was hard sometimes. But then moments like these happened, and he knew he’d go through all of the Abyss and back just to have another. Would tear down all of Celestia, would claw at every star until it released him of any other fate, would walk away from everything just to know their kids were happy and looked after.

Kira looked up at Kaeya from where she sat curled up in Ajax’s lap, and he smiled fondly at her - whatever anxieties she had were gone, now that papa was home with them again, so she, too, gave him a cheerful, bright smile, matching everyone else. The smiles that Ajax fought so hard to preserve, the smiles that he would stop at nothing to protect.

Kaeya leaned his cheek into a hand, savoring their welcome chatter, a song he would never grow tired of, a sight he could never see too many times.

He truly can and will sit here and soak up the atmosphere for as long as it goes on.

“But, mama, why did the princess stay friends with her mean stepsisters?”

Kaeya pulled the covers up for Masha after he set the picture book aside. “Because the princess doesn’t like to be angry at people, so when they said sorry and started acting nicer, she decided to forgive them.”

Masha’s brows knit in confusion. “But they were so mean to her! I would never talk to them again.”

Kaeya chuckled. “Sometimes, it’s important to forgive people.”

“Well, I think that’s silly! What if they’re mean to her again?”

“Tsk. Now, don’t be saying that. If forgiveness was bad, Ruslan wouldn’t be playing games with you anymore, now would he?”

Masha fell quiet. So he gave her a kind smile instead.

“Like I said. Sometimes, it’s better to accept an apology and be friends again.” He said, a little more gently, now that he’s gotten the point across. He kissed her forehead lightly. “That’s how people learn, dear. They make a mistake, someone usually gets their feelings hurt for it, and then they learn that it’s not okay so they don’t do it again. It’s how we become better people. Imagine if I never forgave you for anything - do you think I’d be a nice mama, if I was always mad at you?”

Masha shook her head. “...No.”

He brushed the hair from her eyes. “That’s why the princess decided to forgive. She saw her stepsisters weren’t bad people, just had a very mean mama that never taught them how to be good. So when they learned, she decided to give them another chance.”

She nodded slowly in understanding, giving Kaeya a small smile. “...I guess that makes her pretty nice, then.”

“I think so, too.” Kaeya chuckled, turning to Kira on the other side of the room. She was already halfway out of it, giving a little sound of contentedness as Kaeya brushed the hair from her face, too, and gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead goodnight.

“Sleep tight, lapochki mayi .” He said quietly as he reached the door, meeting Masha’s eyes as he flicked off their lights. “Sweet dreams.”

Masha yawned. “Goodnight, mama. I love you!”

“I love you too, dear.” He carefully shut the door behind him, and waited a second, listening. Masha, when she was feeling brave, crept out of bed to try and rile up Kira so they could keep playing quietly - he’d found them out cold on the floor a few times too many in the morning, having dozed off while playing even though he’d tucked them into bed. Had caught them only once before and had made full well sure they knew exactly why they were grounded for a week and what would happen if he ever caught them again.

But Masha didn’t move, the only sound a low murmur from the room across the hallway - he could just about make out Matvei’s tired voice, and Ajax’s soft laugh. So Kaeya lingered in the hall, not wanting to interrupt Ajax’s time with their sons.

“...love you too, Matvei.” His mate was hardly whispering loud enough for him to hear, evidently not wanting to wake Ruslan. “Sleep tight.”

Kaeya led the way out the hall and to their room, on the other side of the house, once Ajax had turned off their lights and shut the door. He was still walking a little off, a bit stiff from injuries, and while Kaeya itched to reach out and steady him and offer himself as support… he also knew Ajax would speak up and ask him if he needed it.

They returned to their room in companionable silence. Kaeya helped him get changed into his nightwear, not wanting him to disturb his bandages too much, and as Kaeya fretted over him needing to brush his teeth and that he wanted to help him wash his face before bed, Ajax laughed kindly at him - though, to his relief, allowed Kaeya to look after him.

“...I know I can always do this on my own.” Kaeya heard him admitting in a low voice, as if hesitant to break this peaceful quiet between them. “But, I have to say… I really missed you fussing over me like this.” His face warmed. “...Is that bad?”

Kaeya smiled. “If it is, then I don’t mind. Which means it really doesn’t matter, so long as you let me keep working.”

Ajax leaned into his touch, and allowed Kaeya to finish helping him get ready for bed. Allowed Kaeya to pull him close, allowed Kaeya to ease him into the organized mess of blankets and pillows and - as a more recent addition - Ajax’s old shirts that still smelled of pine and cinnamon. He chuckled as he spotted the stuffed fox Kaeya had knit for himself, the one he demanded Ajax hold and snuggle with for a week before his most recent departure.

Kaeya shot him a look. “Don’t make fun of me. I know for a fact you left with my old blue sweater, I couldn’t find it the day after you had to go.”

Ajax gave him a sheepish look. “...Guilty as charged? Sorry I kinda lost it on the way back…”

He flicked his forehead. “You know the drill, then.”

He sighed. “Yeah, I know… I’ll give you one of my other sweaters to keep in return.”

There was a satisfied smile on Kaeya’s lips now, and as Ajax lay down and reached his arm out to him, Kaeya snuggled right up into his arms. Where they could lay on their sides and tangle their limbs together and he could press his face to his chest. Where he belonged.

The redhead leaned down, face brushing against the mating bite imprinted into Kaeya’s neck and tickling his skin. Kaeya let out a slow breath, goosebumps rising all over him, and Ajax breathed his scent in deeply.

“Archons, I missed you.”

Kaeya giggled. “It’s only been two months. We’ve been apart for longer before.”

“I know.” Ajax mouthed a kiss at his neck, and a shiver ran down his spine. “I still missed you, though.”

Kaeya ran his fingers through those soft red curls of his. “...I missed you too, darling. It’s never the same when you’re away.”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart.” He murmured. “Not much I can do about it. This was the only compromise I could manage.”

“I know.”

Ajax smiled against him. “...You know, I’ve been meaning to ask. It’s been bugging me all day.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Oh, nothing’s wrong. But I am kinda curious.” He took another deep breath, pulling back just enough to look into Kaeya’s  mismatched eyes. “Why the change in soap? Was the old one starting to irritate your skin?”

Kaeya’s brows knit together. “New soap?”

“Yeah.” Ajax smiled. “You always smell like flowers, but there’s a whiff of…what, cinnamon? It suits you.”

…New soap?

But he hadn’t… it was still his usual lavender scent.

Ajax stared at him in confusion as the confirmation dawned on Kaeya.

The late heat cycles… those were absolutely not because of stress. Because if he smelled different, like he had the previous three times…

Kaeya couldn’t contain the smile from breaking out on his face. “...Ajax. Darling. Tell me, again. I smell different?”

“Yeah.” His brow furrowed, not quite catching on.

Which… in all fairness, he hadn’t been around the last two months to witness the change.

“...I haven’t gone into heat since you left.”

A second passed by of silence as Kaeya smiled up at him. A second, and then another, before hope tugged Ajax’s lips up. “...No. You’re kidding.”

Kaeya laughed as he kissed his cheek. “My, I thought you wanted as many kids as I was ready to give you.”

Joy fully broke through into his eyes as Ajax pulled him into a tight hug. “I do! I just… Kaeya! Archons, Kaeya, you just… fuck, you’re amazing, you know that?” He kissed him, lovingly and messily, as if he barely knew what to do with himself. “Archons, I love you.”

“I love you too, Ajax.” Kaeya thought his face was going to break from all the smiling, but then, he supposed that wasn’t really a bad thing.

As Ajax’s hands carefully set over Kaeya’s belly, he realized he was purring again. There was a time where it was uncommon and he found it deeply embarrassing, like his body was betraying him. But here, safely tucked away from the world, where he and his mate lay together, he wanted him to know that he trusted him with every part of him. Wanted him to know how happy he made him, wanted him to know how at ease he was with him around.

Ajax pressed his forehead against Kaeya’s. “If you’re already two months along, then you’re due… what, sometime in December?”

“Yeah.”

“I guess I better get a move on for building a new room, then.” He smiled, moving to lightly press his forehead against his stomach - there wasn’t really anything showing just yet, but Kaeya knew it was only a matter of time. “Oh, you sweet little thing… you’re gonna have the best mama ever looking after you, you know that?”

Kaeya’s face warmed, even as his heart soared and was about to crack open again. He ran his fingers through Ajax’s hair, hoping to ground himself.

He pressed a kiss to where the newest addition to their family now grew, before reaching up to kiss Kaeya again. Unhurried, deeply, like they had all the time in the world, like he had all this love left over that didn’t fit in his heart and wanted to give it to Kaeya.

Kaeya wasn’t sure his heart had room for it. Not when there was so much to go around in this home, not when it was already fit to burst at any given moment.

But… still.

It really was good to have his beloved mate home with him again. It was good to have him back in his arms, good to hear him again, to smell him again, to taste and touch again.

Kaeya simply closed his eyes, wrapped his arms around him, and returned his kisses, listening to Ajax’s soft praises and affection.

You’re such a good mama.

You’re the best mate I could ever ask for.

You’re so good to me.

I love you.

I love you.

I love you.

He was still purring when he eventually dozed off, wrapped up safely in his Ajax’s arms.
