Work Text:
A metallic fist flies towards his head, he dodges by a hair having to bend back at way too sharp of an angle. Sonic kicks, hits a metal shin and the bruise on his own will be worth it as his opponent stumbles. An opening. He throws a punch, hits Metal square in the jaw and it sends the other to the ground.
“Hah, come on, you didn’t go down this easy last time.” He swipes a thump across his nose. It glares at him, engine growling in anger.
It shoots forward, fire blazing out his back. Sonic throws his hands up, catches the other’s fists and slides back from the force of it. He has to grit his teeth, legs straining in an effort to keep him upright.
The hedgehog twists his torso, throwing the other to the side. Metal recovers quickly, body spinning and feet landing hard on the ground. They’re back in a stalemate. Emerald eyes locked onto red optics. Sonic loves the thrill, loves how he feels whenever he fights his doppelganger. He’d say the feeling was close to that of butterflies in his stomach but with a touch of bloodlust.
He breaks their standstill. Boosting forward he zigzags around his opponent, prepares to punch again but Metal is quick on the uptake. It sidesteps the attack, optics locked on as he lands a blow with his knee into Sonic’s stomach. Metal grabs the other by the arm, claws digging into flesh and he throws him against the ground.
Sonic lands hard on his back, concrete cracking underneath him. Shit, okay, no more playing around. Claws come for his face and he barely dodges in time. Blue fur fluttering in the wind.
It’s his turn now.
Sonic kicks up into Metal’s torso, denting it and causing the robot to stumble. That gives him enough room to spin-dash right into the other’s ugly mug. Using his momentum, Sonic races around the other hitting him as often as possible in an effort to do as much damage as possible.
It only lasts for so long. His lungs start to ache, he slows down just a fraction and it’s enough to let Metal escape his whirlwind attack. It jumps to the side, Sonic has to swerve and despite one of his optics having been blown out Metal locks onto his target just fine.
Fire flashes from his engine and Sonic thinks Metal is about to pull the same trick. Instead the robot veers to the side, rakes his claw across the other’s side like meat hooks dragging him along. Sonic manages to get an arm around its neck. Tries to twist and punch and get his way out of the other’s grip.
Metal releases only to punch the other in the face. Sonic reels back, blood trickles from his nose as his head knocks back into the wall with a deafening crack. Metallic hands crunch around his throat. He’s rendered breathless, Metal’s face is mere inches away from his. The two lock eyes, Sonic feels his fingers start to go numb yet he still smirks at the other.
He tastes iron on his lips.
Sonic twists his body and like a spring locked gun lets his fist rocket right into Metal’s core. It shudders, grip loosening slightly as he twists his fingers around what is essentially the other’s heart.
“What’ll it be?” He manages to spit out. Metal whirrs but doesn’t release and Sonic pulls back.
Wires snap. Metal stutters and it has to step back in order to steady itself. Sonic crumples slightly, oil dripping down his arm. He has to gasp for air between overconfident chuckles. Metal lists to one side, optic flickering in and out.
It’s over.
Sonic jumps into action. He stumbles, still recovering from the fight but he manages to catch Metal before he falls. “Gotcha…”
It glares at him, raises an arm with calculated movements to rest against Sonic’s cheek. He holds it, it digs his claws into the other’s face. Sonic simply smiles watching the power drain from the robot.
He leans in close despite the talons digging into him. “Lookin’ forward to next time..” Sonic snarls as Metal finally drifts off into low power mode. It’s hand falls from his face. He gently lowers the other onto the ground, hands lingering around its chest for a second too long.
Sonic stands. With the adrenaline now fading pain starts to pulse through his body, but it feels good. It always feels good no matter how many close calls he has with Metal. He loves that it doesn’t hold back.
Still, he is organic and as such Sonic drags himself back home in order to tend to his wounds. He looks forward to their next deathly dance.
