Work Text:
Akito was a very attentive person -- As his partner, this was something Toya had come to know firsthand. Whether it was through helping a customer, buying something for his sister or quietly lending his aid after watching a teammate struggle with something he had the ability to easily solve... He was extremely intuitive to the needs of the people around him, and to say Toya experienced that treatment tenfold would be an understatement.
"You look kinda gloomy. Did you skip breakfast?"
"You've got bags under your eyes. You've gotta stop staying up so late."
"You've been busier than usual lately. Did your dad start bugging you again...?"
Like magic, he'd always deduce the source of even the smallest of Toya's troubles and offer whatever solution he could -- A quick café visit before practice, an offer to use his shoulder as a pillow, an ear that would dutifully listen to all his family-related woes... Most of the time, he didn't even need to ask and Akito was already rushing to help him out. In fact, there had been several occasions in which he'd looked visibly frustrated in having to stop himself for Toya's sake. Akito felt relief in being able to make his partner happy, and Toya felt a distinct heat in his chest knowing the younger went to all that effort for his sake.
...He just didn't realize how Akito's behavior came off to others until one unremarkable day at school.
"Oh, Toya. Wait up a sec." Akito had told his partner just as they were passing through the gates to Kamiyama on their way to practice. Before Toya could even formulate a proper response, Akito was suddenly treating his personal space as if their ownership of it was shared. The younger's hand ghosted across the now-reddened skin of Toya's pale cheek, carding back a stray tuft of the lighter-shaded half of his hair until it sat neatly tucked behind his ear.
"Your hair got all messy again..." Akito expounded with a fond chuckle, even taking his time to straighten Toya's tie and brush the dust off the shoulders of his jacket as he worked his way downward. Finally, the ginger stepped back with a satisfying nod, the hand which set it all in motion seeming to briefly swoop up with the intent of ruffling the older's hair before freezing in its tracks.
"...There. Better?" asked Akito, opting to instead pat his partner's shoulder for the sake of not rendering his own efforts moot.
"Yes, Akito. Much better." Toya returned with a feather soft smile -- not because his disheveled state was necessarily a bother, but because Akito's kindness warmed his heart so thoroughly that he couldn't help the instant improvement in his mood.
"Aw, Akito's such a sweetheart when he thinks nobody's looking~" came the sudden teasing voice of An, her equally sudden yet playful punch against Akito's back making her teammate grunt in annoyance.
"Shut up, you and Kohane are way worse..." Akito grumbled in return, kicking the back of her leg as she tried to escape his shove of retaliation. An could only squeak as they returned to a normal walking pace at last, sneaking in one final smack to Akito's shoulder as a subtle way of securing the last laugh.
"Dude. You dote on him so much that even our classmates get grossed out." An continued regardless of her 'victory', the smirk on her face making Akito hot in the cheeks even if he could only see half of it from his perspective. "You guys totally act like an old married couple all day."
"Huh...?" Toya's train of thought toward the scene before him had suddenly ground to screeching halt, like the whole world needed to stop in its track for the sake of letting his brain process.
"We do not, shut up."
"Do too! And you're the wife, by the way."
"Oh my god."
Being married... to Akito... That sounded like bliss.
Toya could envision it perfectly -- Akito's nerves would overtake him well enough that he would be able to see the big question coming from a mile away, but that hardly mattered. His heart would still skip a beat or perhaps a thousand the moment Akito dropped to one knee, those five timeless words of devotion flowing from his lips more naturally than anything in the world.
"Toya, will you marry me?"
Oh, how Toya would instantly yearn to throw himself into Akito with a resounding acceptance that had been building in the very core of his soul for years... And yet he knew his words would catch in his breath, squeezed out from his lungs in a giddy smile that stole away all his capability to vocalize his emotions yet painted them clear as day all the same.
And Akito would remain patient -- knelt before him, his own heart gently nestled within the ring that sat in his waiting palm, until Toya could piece back together the fragments of adoration that overflowed from his body on all fronts.
"Yes, Akito, of course I'll marry you...!" Toya would finally answer with as much calmness as he could muster, which was of course none at all. If it weren't for Akito's other hand slowly taking hold of Toya's fair wrist, he would easily drop to the ground and smother him in enough kisses to waste away whatever trace amounts of oxygen remained in both their lungs.
Toya, too, would coil back all his remaining strength and remain patient, knowing that there was a right way to do these things -- As would Akito, pressing an attentive kiss to Toya's knuckle as he slipped the ring onto its respective finger. They'd be bound together for life from that moment on, and nothing could possibly be more deserving of the excited kiss Toya would then drag his lover up into.
Sure, their marriage wouldn't be legally recognized, but that hardly mattered. Especially when Toya knew the prospect of planning a wedding would be an absolute blast. Hosting a big one would certainly appear like it was due to Toya's whims, but he knew that would end up being Akito's idea. After all, at the end of the day, Toya was the one who could find satisfaction in a quiet coexistence declared with humility, while Akito spared no expense whatsoever in showing off the extent of their bond -- It had always been that way, even if it was extremely easy to make Akito blush just by pointing out how sweet he was on Toya.
He'd take it just as seriously as he did all other matters, too, especially with their... particularly eccentric array of friends, a weirdly large amount of which had prior experience handling wedding venues, likely jumping on the opportunity to help out their dear acquaintances. That was to say they'd also definitely take every opportunity they could to embarrass Akito during the process... Though he supposed that was Akito's own fault for being so easy to tease and just as adorable when he turned red.
Either way, the process would be diligent nonetheless, until finally a wedding ceremony they could both take pride and comfort in could be born... They'd invite everyone they knew -- their classmates, a certain senpai and his troupe, friends from Vivid Street and beyond, perhaps even Toya's father would show up... and they'd both cherish being able to share this most important of unions with them all-
Oh, who was he kidding, Akito would ask if he was allowed to open the champagne yet the instant Tsukasa showed up at the venue.
Either way... Toya would wear a suit of white, and Akito one of black -- total opposites and yet perfectly complimentary, just like their wearers. Of course, he'd be more than willing to compromise on the matter -- Akito had an eye for fashion coordination like nobody else, and Toya, in all his lovey-dovey blindness, would hardly be capable of turning off the rosy lens which made his partner look amazing in absolutely everything to his eyes.
The ceremony would begin with beautiful music, perhaps played by one of their many fellow musician friends. Or maybe a piece that Toya himself produced would ring through the walls the venue, echoing an ethereal, dreamlike sound that mirrored the way the feelings which always pooled into his heart for every moment he spent with his partner... Music was a very important thing to them, after all -- both as people, and to the very relationship they'd be celebrating. Toya wanted nothing more than to match Akito's fervor in accordance with that fact.
Finally, the time to swear their love together would begin. Akito would trip over his words trying to spit out the vows he'd prepared, embarrassed to speak his affections in front of others even now, and Toya would have to summon the will of a god in that moment -- How could he possibly suppress his desire to stamp his partner's face with so many smooches that all his inhibitions magically vanished? Still, he would dutifully persist until finally the two of them could be declared husband and husband, sealing the deal with a long-awaited kiss that instantly swept away the cheers of their closest friends and family.
And the best part -- From that point on, Toya could spend every day of his life dedicating every last inch of his mind, body and soul to this gorgeous, kind, talented, absolutely unfathomably incredible boy he'd been blessed with enough luck to fall in love with. He'd never thought about how much power a simple band around your finger could hold before, but now he wanted that so badly it hurt to breathe just thinking about it.
Proposal, marriage, domestic life... Oh, how badly he wanted to soak in the happiness of having gotten married to the boy of his dreams for all eternity. He'd kill to spend the rest of his days waking up to the feeling of a goodbye kiss at the nape of his neck, the subsequent loss of warmth around him signifying that Akito had gone for his morning run, giving Toya the opportunity to fix a delicious breakfast which they'd shared together so many times that it was simply a habit by now.
And at the end of a long day, regardless of whether or not he could be granted the grace of spending the bulk of it alongside his beloved husband, it would be the home they built together that they would each return to. Maybe they'd adopt a cat -- or three, or five; or maybe they'd just live by themselves... It wouldn't matter much, he supposed, as long as they could spend their lives mutually personifying the concept of the love and care they both wished to give each other.
Maybe after a long day of working and performing, they'd cuddle beneath a big blanket, cradled by each other's warmth more than anything... A lazy microwaved meal of the frozen or refrigerated leftover variety would fill their bellies, the sound of their TV playing naught but white noise as they chose to instead lose each other in the sweetest of kisses... Until they eventually ended the day as they began, spooned together like it was meant to be their natural state.
He had no idea it was even possible to yearn for such mundanity, and yet the very concept had dug its claws well enough into the depths of his heart that he could grow content with dreaming about it every night until the day he could bring it all to fruition finally arrived.
"Toya? Everything good?"
"You've been spaced out for, like... 10 minutes, dude." An added onto Akito's words, both of them having stopped in their tracks in order to drag Toya out of his own mind.
Instantly, Toya's eyes fell over to the very boy he'd been fantasizing about -- His beautifully amazing partner who truly had no clue how stupidly happy he managed to make him, easing all his doubts just by existing in his line of sight. Then and there, his resolve thickened to the point of impenetrability as he opened his mouth without shame.
"...Akito, can we please get married as soon as possible?"
"What?!"
