    Summary

“And thou, Melkor, shalt see that no theme may be played that hath not its uttermost source in me, nor can any alter the music in my despite. For he that attempteth this shall prove but mine instrument in the devising of things more wonderful, which he himself hath not imagined.” Eru Illuvatar.

What if Melkor took this to mean that there is no free will?
If one believes that there is no free will than how can there ever be genuine redemption?

JRR Tolkein as an author when addressing the concept of free will is bothersome: on the one hand, free will needs to exist because without it existence is meaningless, on the other hand his work is CRAMMED with implications that free will doesn't exist, and I suspect he later in life came to regret those implications.

So I've come up with a story wherein Melkor during his time in the void discovers he does indeed have free will and decides to one-up Sauron as the wannabe he is.
