Lae’zel tensed the moment Karlach wrapped her arms around her. “Not now!”
“Oh, come on.” Karlach had seen the githyanki woman sitting at the shore of the lake, next to which they had made camp for the night. She had been sitting there, staring up at the starry sky. She was doing that a lot. And though Karlach didn’t know jack shit about the githyanki culture, she knew her friend well enough to understand that a part of her felt guilty for not being in the astral and not being there to fight against Vlaakith. “You looked like you need a hug.”
“Chk,” Lae’zel made. “No. What you say is actually: You decided you wanted to give out hugs. I do not need hugs. I am a…”
“Oh, come on now!” Karlach knew exactly what the woman wanted to say. “I am warrior, too. And you know what I need from time to time? A good old hug. Nobody is above hugs!”
“Well, I am,” Lae’zel replied. “Now let go of me!”
Karlach considered this. She knew she had a certain talent for overstepping people’s boundaries. But she was still fairly certain that her assessment right now was right. Lae’zel needed a hug. “Make me.”
That got the githyanki to groan. She grabbed Karlach’s arms, before throwing herself forward.
Now, compared to Karlach, Lae’zel was a rather small woman – but she knew how to use every pound of her body. She managed to unbalance Karlach, and once she did, she rolled forward, pinning Karlach down underneath herself a moment later. “There!” She grabbed Karlach by the wrists to hold her arms down. “Now I got you!”
Karlach was really shitty when it came to understanding this woman. She knew she was. Was Lae’zel really angry now, or what she just annoyed? Karlach didn’t know.
“Look, Lae’zel, if I… I mean, I am sorry, if you really…”
This, too, got Lae’zel to groan. “I am a warrior,” she said. “I have pride, still. I do not need hugs. I wish you would understand that.”
“Well, but isn’t a hug still kinda nice?” Karlach asked.
“That is beside the point.”
“Is it though?”
“It is,” Lae’zel growled.
Karlach sighed. She really had no idea why this was such a point for her friend. “What does a warrior need then?”
“A few moments of quiet,” Lae’zel said, still with a growl in her voice. “And maybe after that a good fuck.”
“Oh.” Karlach looked at her. “Oh!” She grabbed the githyanki by the shoulders, pushing herself up to roll the two of them over. “I can help with that.” She kissed the woman into those thin green lips. “I can help with that for sure.” She kissed her again, and again, until Lae’zel did something Karlach had not expected.
She laughed. For just a short moment. But she laughed.
Karlach looked at her, making the woman look back rather awkwardly.
“I said I need a moment of quiet, first,” she muttered. “After that…”
