Chapter 1: Jefferson Thomas

Chapter Text

Anomalies. Truly they are everywhere, from a person born with two different eye colors, someone having six fingers, their organs being on the opposite side of their body, truly it could even be said that perhaps it be more of an anomaly to be born perfect than to be born with some kind of anomaly. Yet there’s still some anomalies that only develop after birth. Some that may never be explained.

Jason couldn’t help himself as he dogged through books of the weird and unexplained, sure his life gave him an explanation and yet he had none for himself at the same time. He knew how he was alive, he knew that it was better than being dead, and yet he couldn’t help but look for more. In his research he came across old papers detailing anomalies in a small town, there were a bunch sure but he was about to brush it off before noticing a sudden spike in them just not being reported… Jason paused at that, in about thirty years there went from report after report to nothing besides a few small headlines.

Summer was just approaching and Jason knew that perhaps it was time he took a similar case outside of Gotham, go figure out all the weird shit happening and leave, No Bruce, no bats, no ‘family’ just himself figuring out what was happening.

Like Bruce would let that happen.

“Aren’t you excited Dipper? I can’t wait to see everyone again! I mean look at how much we’ve grown since we were last there!” Mabel exclaimed with a wide smile as she hugged Waddles tightly as the two sat on the bus seat.

Dipper had a smile as he looked out the window while holding onto a note which read “See you next summer”.

“Yeah, I am” Dipper said somewhat absently, he had already made a plan of everyone he wanted to talk to and what order he would talk to them all.

“I mean it’s been a whole summer since we saw Grinda, Candy, Wendy, Soos, Stan and Ford! Imagine how much everyone’s changed!” Mabel remarked putting emphasis on Stan and Ford.

They have all changed a lot, Dipper and Mabel have gotten taller, with Dipper getting pimples among pimples mostly at his uppe hairline, Mabel had decided to start wearing her hair in a ponytail, he could only imagine how much everyone else has changed. He also couldn’t wait for him and Ford to compare research, though Caiforna wasn’t exactly known for their cryptids and weirdness like gravity falls or well all over the world like with how Ford and Stan were adventuring before deciding to come back for the summer with Dipper and Mabel with them coming a few hours before.

The bus arrived at the bus stop with Ford and Stan standing there excitedly waiting for the door to open. The twins quickly jumped from their seats, grabbing onto their bags, and ran out the door as soon as it opened.

“Stand, Ford!” The two younger twins exclaimed excitedly as they jumped into their grunkles arms.

“Kids!” The two elder twins exclaimed as they pulled the two into a tight embrace.

After a few moments with a lot of laughter and smiles they pulled away from each other, a small frown appeared on Mabel’s face as she looked around.

“Where is everyone else?” Mabel asked, noting how they were the only ones there.

“We thought it be nice for the first day to be just us at the mystery shack” Stan told her, it had been a while since they seen each other, and he wanted it to be just the family at first… along with Soos and Wendy, as well as this supposed to new hire that Soos hired.

“Well we do have a lot to talk about” Mabel remarked with a smile and Dipper nodded, as the two sets of twins walked into the woods and towards the place that brought them together, the mystery shack.

-

The first thing Dipper noticed when he walked in was the new hire who was sweeping the floors. He was tall, around six feet, he had muscles for days and it appeared his shirt was straining against his muscles, he had black hair with white strands in the front, he had bright piercing green eyes as he glared down at Dipper before going back to sweeping.

“Who’s…?” Dipper began to ask though felt intimidated to continue.

“Oh dude, that's Jefferson Thomas!” Soos told Dipper with a smile before leaning down and whispering to Dipper, “Between you and me, I’m pretty sure he’s related to Thomas Jefferson”

“I’m not related to Thomas Jefferson” ‘Jefferson Thomas’ stated, okay so Thomas Jefferson wasn’t the best civilian name, but in his defense at the moment he couldn’t think of anything else during the ‘interview’, besides it got the job done with a fake name.

“That's what someone who was related to Thomas Jefferson would say!” Soos exclaimed as if he was proven right, he wasn't.

Jason just grumbled under his breath as he began sweeping again, better than them knowing he was technically a dead man and was also a crime boss. Granted he was getting close to snapping with how much Soos talked about him being related to Thomas Jefferson but he could hold it down.

“Yo Dipshit!” Wendy exclaimed excitedly with a wide smile as she jumped over the counter and ruffled his hair with his hat.

“Wendy!” Dipper exclaimed with a laugh as he looked up at his old crush.

“Wow you two have gotten a lot bigger, I remember when you went up to my knee” Wendy remarked with a chuckle as she looked down at Dipper and Mabel while crossing her arms.

“Yet I’m still taller!” Mabel exclaimed playfully as she shoved Dipper lightly while laughing.

“Oh please you’re not that much taller” Dipper stated as he playfully shoved Mabel back.

Jason had a faint smile as he kept sweeping, well at least the kids here were happy about being here instead of back at Gotham. Jason quickly left once the family had talked about going out for dinner. He put his jacket back on and pulled up the hood that hid his face from the world as he walked in the dark forest, to the small hotel he was staying in. At least now he could get some peace as he tries to figure out just what’s going on in this town.

Jason stood outside the mystery shack as he took a smoke break, the smoke made his heart jump, made his hands shake, he ignored it though, he was strong, he could handle it. What he couldn’t handle was seeing a familiar car with family faces coming out of it.

“Bruce” Jason stated with a frown as he saw Bruce leaving the car.

“Jason” Bruce had a smile on, Jason knew it was to go with his ‘Brucie’ persona, how he found him Jason didn’t know.
