Chapter Text
“Attention students. The observatory has issued a heavy rain warning. All outdoor club activities will be canceled for today.”
Caelus groans in frustration. Baseball practice has been suspended for a whole week before due to the team leader getting sick with a contagious disease. And now that practice can finally continue again, the weather just had to rain on their parade.
Caelus and his friend, Dan Heng pack their bags. ”Hey Dan Heng, baseball practice has been canceled today, wanna go out for karaoke right now?”He really hoped Dan Heng would accept cause he really had no idea what else to do later. “Sorry Caelus, I have student council duties. This Friday is my turn to deal with the mountain of paperwork in the council room . Maybe we’ll have lunch together with March tomorrow?” Dan Heng picks up his bag and starts walking away. “Anyways, see you.”
Dan Heng, a friend of Caelus and also secretary of the school’s student council has been busy lately. Since the start of this school year, in contrast to Caelus, Dan Heng has been busy with student council paperwork and meetings. Which sucks for Caelus since the baseball team members usually leave school immediately if there’s no practice and March 7th, a mutual friend of Dan Heng and Caelus goes to another school. If Dan Heng is busy, It usually means Caelus is alone again for the rest of the day.
The classroom door shuts. Leaving Caelus all alone in the room. “Geez, I’m gonna die of boredom soon if this keeps up.” He absent mindedly walked out of the classroom. Maybe I should go buy another Clockie mecha kit… Ah, right. I spent all my pocket money on Trashman merch. Should I ask Stelle for-
Crash
Caleus’s train of thought was derailed by the loud sound and collision of his arm with another student. Turning around he saw a silver-haired girl lying face first on the ground, hands outstretched towards a bunch of scattered mechanical components and paperwork splayed on the floor in front of her. “Oh crap, I’m so sorry! Are you ok?” Caelus rushed to help the girl up. The girl responded with a soft groan. While helping the girl up, she turned her head towards him and their eyes met for the first time. Damn her eyes are beautiful… Caelu thought to himself as they stood back up.
”I- I’m sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Are you hurt? Did anything from the box hit you?” The girl blurted out. “No no, It was my fault. Let me help you pick up your stuff.” Caelus squatted down and started placing the scattered mechanical parts back in the box. “Ah, it’s- , umm… Thanks.” The girl kneeled down and grabbed the scattered paperwork.
While they were picking up her scattered items, Caelus was distracted by how beautiful the girl was. She wore a brown headband and a hair clip with wings on the side. Her clothes were the standard school uniform with a blazer. The highlight for Caelus is her eyes. When he looked into them, He could see a beautiful sunset in those eyes.
“Umm… Do I have something on my face?”“Oh! Ah, nothing…” Caelus’s gaze returns to the parts, embarrassed he got caught staring.
They finish putting all the girl’s stuff back into their rightful places. “Thanks for your help, um..”
“I’m Caelus. And don’t mention it, it was me not paying attention that caused this in the first place. Where were you heading? Let me carry the box for you.” “You don’t need to do that, it’s a long way from here to where I’m going.” The girl picks up her box but some paperwork slips out of her grasp. “Really it’s no problem. Not like I have anything to do right now, with outdoor clubs canceled.” He picks up the escaping piece of paper. “Well if you insist. Thank you Caelus. Ah, I’m Firefly. It’s only fair since you told me your name.” Firefly hands her box to Caelus and they start walking.
“So, where are we going?”, ‘The robotics club room on the 4th floor. That’s why I turned you down at first.” They start going up the stairs, the contents of the box clanking against each other. “You’re a robotics club member? I’ve never imagined a cute girl like you to be in the robotics club.” Firefly feels a blush creeping up her face.
“C-cute? Am I really?”
“Yeah.”
Firefly is a bit baffled at Caelus’s boldness and her blush became more apparent. She had received compliments from classmates before but no one was as direct as Caelus before. Cute. Caelus thought to himself. “W-well, in fact, all the members of the club are girls. All two of us.” “Wait, so only two people built that human sized puppet that won last year’s National Youth Robotics Competition?” “No no, We had four people last year, but three of them graduated. My friend joined the club this year so that makes two people this year.”
As they were talking, Firefly started looking closer at her ‘helper’. Messy gray hair, an unkempt uniform, piercing yellow eyes and the highlight for her—his infectious smile. She doesn’t quite understand the reasons behind it, but when she sees him talk with that grin on his face, a warm feeling brews in her chest.
Well, I’m kinda glad Dan Heng was busy today.
