It’s the start of the season when Gavi realises that he needs a fucking break. To be fair, it’s only the start of the season for the rest of his teammates and not him. Somehow, nine months had passed since the day he’d gotten injured and though he was closer to being on the pitch than off it, it still felt like there was entirely too much time left until he could be back. It brought him a little bit of comfort, that at least it didn’t feel like an eternity anymore— that he could go on vacation with his boyfriend and have it be just that instead of the whole thing being a cover so that he could hide from his feelings.
The hard part now would be convincing his boyfriend and finding the time in their schedules to do it. Or. he’d thought until Madrid had managed to draw their first game of the season; leaving Jude entirely too frustrated and susceptible to whatever ideas Gavi came up with to blow off steam. He’d been a bit hesitant at first, until he saw that half of his teammates—who’d done a worse job than him— were out somewhere in yachts partying like it didn’t matter at all, while the other half were writing shady messages on Whatsapp. It brought Gavi a bit of comfort and a hell of a lot more amusement knowing that Madrid were struggling just like them, and they hadn’t even started off their season with a win unlike them.
Despite the draw, Jude and his teammates had gotten a day off. Gavi shoved down the urge to brag about how he’d be in the training ground the day after regardless, after seeing just how tired Jude had looked after the game. Don’t get him wrong, he loved his boyfriend but the urge to gloat was ever present, their whole relationship had been based on the way they’d bicker against each other when it came to their teams; Gavi always being the one who had more emotional attachment to his club and Jude being the one with the bigger fucking ego. He’d forgotten about that though when he’d seen how much Jude had had to run the whole match only to not be rewarded at all. So, he’d taken it upon himself to reward him with a little vacation on his day off.
He’d decided that Cadiz would be the perfect place, taking it upon himself to plan everything from the place where they’d be staying to what they’d be doing while there. Gavi had realised early on in their relationship that despite how assertive Jude was, when it came to planning things out he preferred to have it all done for him. It would have been a problem if Gavi didn’t enjoy planning out every single detail of his trips and even his daily life. For how careless Jude was, Gavi had to be 10 times more careful and he was gladly willing to do so, even if the first time they’d planned a trip and Jude had forgotten his passport had caused him to see red. His mom had had to drop it off and Gavi had teased him so much that it didn’t happen again.
They’d had to take different flights directly to Cadiz, only being able to meet up at the airport. Though it was annoying that they couldn’t be together during the flight, it was a lot less practical and safer than being spotted together by some random person and having their cover blown. Gavi had considered himself lucky that their respective flights were only an hour long, but that still hadn’t stopped him from buying the in flight wifi to talk to his boyfriend. They could definitely afford it and he knew Jude hated being alone on flights, with no one next to him to talk their ear off. Once they’d landed, it hadn’t been a task to sneak out of the airport considering no one would doubt that they’d be here vacationing at the start of the season, let alone together. Gavi had managed to convince one of his close friends to pick them up from the airport, who’d been more than happy to do it, renting a huge car with black windows and a space between the drivers and backseat so that they could get privacy.
Not that they’d needed much of it considering they’d collapsed in on themselves as soon as they got inside the car. No matter how easy it was to sneak out, it still meant that they couldn’t hold each other's hand as they walked through the airport, despite the fact that they were dying to touch each other. Jude had made himself comfortable on Gavi’s lap, laying his head down even though his feet were dangling on the side and struggling to fit in— he tucked them in to make space so that he could be more comfortable. Normally, Gavi would flick his forehead and try to tease him so they’d eventually end up wrestling each other before reverting back to kissing but right now, he was tired and wanted to do nothing more than dote on his boyfriend so he let Jude be, running his hands through his freshly cut hair before leaning down to press tiny kisses on his forehead until Jude eventually sat up and made his way to give him a proper kiss after all the time they’d been apart. He’d missed this.
Once they’d reached their accommodation— one of his friend’s summer houses that he came to only during the height of summer— it didn’t take long before Jude fully reverted to the needy state that he’d been in inside the car, if not ten times worse. It made Gavi giggle a bit before he fully leaned into it, very happy and willing to smother his boyfriend with affection. He'd practically jumped up and down with joy when he’d realised that Jude’s love language was physical affection just like him. He didn’t know who was more affectionate between the two of them, moreso that he was more inclined to feel recharged while giving out hugs and kisses while Jude felt more calm when he was on the receiving end. Gavi was a lot more shy when he was the one who was being smothered with love whereas Jude lapped it up everytime, like it’d be the last time he’d get it.
They settled in after that once Jude had decided he’d done his fair share of recharging through cuddles, being pumped up with adrenaline and energy now, even willing to go out instantly if they needed to. Gavi grabbed him by the waist before saying all the things he’d planned out in detail, even though Jude seemed way more interested in kissing the side of his jaw and letting him figure everything out while he followed him around until Gavi eventually gave up so that they could get ready to go out for dinner. He’d decided on this restaurant he’d been wanting to try out for ages.
“Can you please stop taking pictures and focus on me now?.” Gavi whined, despite the fact that Jude was hellbent on doing a photoshoot of him in the car, meaning his focus was on him anyway.
“You say that but you’re smiling for every single one.” Jude teased back, not moving an inch from where he was sitting, trying to get the perfect photo. They’d managed to quickly get dressed, despite the fact that Jude had interrupted Gavi multiple times to come and hug him from the back and feel up his arms after seeing that he’d chosen to wear a sleeveless muscle tee. It had quickly become evident, just how different their idea of a dinner date was because Jude had half a mind to put on his tightest jeans and a revealing top before Gavi had reminded him that they’d be going near the beach, not a random nightclub in Ibiza. He’d decided on a crochet set that hung just right on his torso. Gavi had run his hands through it, trying to act coy by saying that he was admiring the design even though they both knew they’d end up on the floor as soon as they came back.
Gavi had decided halfway through, to indulge Jude after all and pose for all the photos he’d been hellbent on taking with his mini camera that he insisted on taking everywhere. After a while, he no longer felt awkward everytime the camera flashed, knowing exactly what pose to do so that Jude would be satisfied. As it turned out, it only took snatching the camera from his hand and holding it up so that he could take a picture of him kissing Jude’s cheek to finally get him to put the camera down. He’d tried to deny afterwards just how red he’d gotten too but Gavi had all the evidence in the palm of his hands. In classic Jude fashion, he’d rolled his eyes and leaned in for a kiss, like he tended to do whenever he lost one of their playful arguments, until they’d reached their destination.
This time, it was Gavi’s turn to beg Jude to take photos which he’d been more than happy to do despite the cocky smile he’d first given him. The sunset had been too beautiful for them to just stand there and not commemorate and Jude had decided that Gavi’s arms needed to be shown off, giving him directions on how to pose so that they’d be the centre of attention. It was almost funny how easily Gavi got comfortable considering how much he hated getting his pictures taken, always pouting in his childhood pictures too while everyone else was all smiles.
Once the sun had set, they’d stopped with the pictures and gone down to the beach, with their bucket hats strapped on tight. Gavi had forced Jude to buy matching ones with him; a break from the grandpa hats that he was used to wearing. Though he’d complained at the time, he’d suggested that they wear it now to match— to not get recognised obviously. The weather had been nice enough that it easy to get carried away and sit there on the sand, forgetting about the dinner reservation that he’d made until Gavi’s stomach let out a loud grumble, making them laugh and get off the beach to go back.
Somehow, despite the fact that they were on ‘vacation’ Jude and Gavi had ended up in bed even before midnight, laying down on their bed as soon as they’d come back; too stuffed from the dinner date to even function. It had become evident pretty quickly that they weren’t in the mood for anything more than cuddling until they both fell asleep—having an early flight to catch the next day. Cuddling involved trying to suffocate the other with kisses until they got tired and reverted to scrolling through Tiktok on their respective phones with their legs still entangled with one another. Gavi had been playing with Jude’s hair, like normal when the older boy started pouting at his phone.
“Apparently your girlfriend is really good at taking photos.”
“Excuse me?.” Gavi spat out at the sudden and laughable statement. He’d posted on his Instagram hours ago; at a whim, not particularly thinking that it’d be a big deal or being the type to obnoxiously and continuously check his phone after posting—like Jude. “Who’s saying that?.”
“Tiktok.” Jude sat up straight with his hands rubbing against Gavi’s thighs before shoving his phone in Gavi’s face showing the countless TikToks on his feed about the picture he’d posted. It was honestly laughable whatever he was posting about, and so Gavi laughed which seemed to make him pout harder.
“It’s not funny. I went on your Instagram and all the comments are about how it looks like you’re on vacation with your girlfriend.”
“Well, am I not?” Gavi teased, already expecting the pillow that was about to be launched at his face, which didn’t even take a minute to come.
“No but who the fuck is Ana?.” Jude gritted out and Gavi couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
“Excuse me? How can you be jealous when I’m right here with you?.” he argued which made Jude stop, throwing the pillow to the side before pinching Gavi’s forehead.
“Fuck off, how come the literal princess of Spain gets associated with you faster than me? That’s what these comments are saying.” Jude reasoned, not thinking he’d have to be in competition with the monarchy when he got a boyfriend. Somehow that made Gavi laugh even harder before he stopped seeing the frown on Jude’s face and dragged him back on the bed again before leaving a kiss on his shoulder to calm him down.
“But you know that’s fake right?. I’m here with you so isn’t it a little bit fun that people are getting it so wrong?.”
“Hmm, maybe. It’s still fucking annoying though.” Jude spoke despite the fact that his face had softened, readily accepting the kisses he was being given.
“Maybe you’ll just have to work harder next Clasico if you want rumours with me again.” Gavi giggled.
“You fucking bet I will.” Jude said, wrapping his hands around Gavi’s waist, pulling him closer and kissing him before travelling down to his neck so that he could leave his mark in a way that actually mattered while his hands dug into Gavi’s waist to leave marks, not caring whether the hickey would fade away by the next day or not.
It didn’t take long once he’d started for Gavi to start moaning and melting like wax in his hands. Somehow, despite all their exhaustion before they had indeed managed to end up with all their clothes on the floor and back cuddling on the bed again afterwards. This time, Jude had decided he wanted to go through all the comments on Gavi’s instagram together and they’d ended up bent over laughing at the outrageousness of some of them.
“Look what this one says. I like this one.” Jude pointed out while a smile to a comment that read “it’s over for us. he’s definitely deeply in love with whoever is behind the camera.”
Gavi had rolled his eyes fondly at that before speaking, “Well, they’re right. I do love you.”
Jude blushed at that, despite the fact that he’d practically heard it thrice a day for a couple of months now. It still felt like the first time everytime, “I love you too.”
After they were done scrolling, they’d decided it was time to go to sleep after all. Though they’d tried and tried to delay it and extend their time together for as long as they could, they had flights to catch and responsibilities and people to get back to. All of Gavi’s friends knew where he’d gone off to and who he’d been with. It still didn’t make the teasing from them any less than normal when they saw him in the dressing room when it was just a couple of them— with marks on his body that couldn’t be described as anything other than the work of someone that knew their way around his body. He’d blushed and denied it before deciding to wrestle them away instead, not hiding the marks willingly no matter what.
