Notes:

Ahsoka Week Prompt: DAY 1 (Aug 22): Ahsoka & Sabine || Ahsoka & Hera Ahsoka (2023) + space

Work Text:

“Are you sure this will work?”

“We won’t know that until we give it a try.”

Sabine had been working on the ships long-range communications array for several rotations now while trying to figure a way to boost the signal across, well galaxies.

The three of them having been stranded in this, galaxy they had no knowledge of. Not much anyway and not really daring in venturing further out either.

“So then, we should try, right Sabine?”

Stating the obvious true.

But Ahsoka was becoming slightly anxious. The months spent on Peridea where certainly starting to grind her, as it was Sabine too. But at least Sabine and Huyang had been busy working on the technical stuff while Ahsoka had a lot of free time on her hands.

If they could manage to get even one message out there, to their people, that would be a start.

As planning to leave this galaxy was still in the early stages on their list of to-dos. The Purrgil nowhere to be seen. So for now. That option was out at least, while other ideas had been put to the drawing board.

Their great plan to return back to their home galaxy.

Sabine and Huyang having been busy working on trying to enhance her hyperdrive with Ahsoka helping where she could. Alas with what they had at hand, or rather lack of things, wasn’t enough to make their vessel go fast enough between galaxies. Not in Sabine and Ahsoka’s lifetime anyway.

And so boosting the communications array it was that they had decided on to prioritise.

Ahsoka flicked the switches on the communications console. The channel opening, the static coming online. So now, it was just the matter of hopping and praying.

“This, is Ahsoka Tano. For anyone out there on this frequency, please respond.”

The three of them sat there in the cockpit of the ship, waiting for an answer. Any answer from anyone. Hopeful someone was able to pick their transmission.

Alas, there was no response.

Sabine ducked beneath the console and opened the familiar panel, tinkering with it for a moment before popping her head out again.

“Try it now.”

Ahsoka simply nodded and pushed the buttons again.

“This is Ahsoka Tano. Anyone out there?”

There was static on the line, the channel open as before, alas no response.

Ahsoka and Sabine exchanged glances. Feeling frustrated, as the both of them did. Sighing rather heavily.

“It was a good try…”

Just then, something happened. A voice over the comms came through.

“Ahsoka? Is it really you?”

“Hera! Hera!!! Yes, it’s me. Sabine and Huyang are with me here too.”

Sabine waved even if nobody was seeing it on the other end. This was voice only after all.

“I can hardly hear you. Are you… trying… you… status…“

“Hera! You’re breaking up!”

“Can’t… zra… you… with…”

“Hera? Can you hear me? Please repeat what you said.”

The comm channel crackled with static again, only there were no more words forthcoming. Hera was no longer on the channel.

“It’s no use, we lost the connection!”

“Karking, kriffing hellspells!!!”

Yeah, guess the Jedi training was slowly but surely wearing off of the non-Jedi. The cuss words dropping like flies out of Ahsoka’s mouth. Sabine having hardly ever heard Ahsoka swearing up and til now, let her jaw drop in surprise of the words.

“Hey, Ahsoka, we’ll try to make some adjustments again. Right Hu.”

Sabine gave Huyang a glance of ‘play along’ seeing as their friend was at the end of her rope. And guess a little white lie never hurt anyone. But, they could try to do something more to the array, right?!

“Of course we will. “

Huyang placed his arm on Ahsoka's shoulder for comfort.

“If anyone can fix this, connection, it is the two of us.” Huyang then assured Ahsoka.

“Ahsoka only nodded before adding. “Thanks.” Pausing. “I guess… I know you can do it.”

Even if internally Ahsoka was beginning to slowly think that perhaps Peridea was going to be their home for good.

*

Ahsoka had fallen into a slumber after trying to meditate.

But for some reason being on this planet perhaps this galaxy even, Ahsoka had become more restless, more agitated, more everything negative than she had ever felt in her life.

Something odd about Peridea truly, something which Ahsoka could not really figure out no matter how much she had tried to.

Her dreams were certainly vivid. The imagery was something familiar yet very odd. Off perhaps even. But also a little disturbing as well.

Ahsoka was in the middle of a dream scene she was trying very hard to understand. As the beings in the there were calling her by name.

Just then Ahsoka felt a jolt, a shake rather. And then a soft whisper.

“Soka?”

“Wha… what?”

Ahsoka was roused from her sleep by a familiar face smiling at her.

“Good nap?”

“Um… not really.”

“Oh, one of those ones.”

Ahsoka had shared a few of her bad dreams with Sabine. But some of them… Well, they were simply too odd or terrifying to even try to explain, let alone share.

“Yeah…”

Seeing Sabines hopeful face though, Ahsoka knew something was up.

“What’s going on Bine?”

“I um, I think we fixed it. Again.”

Sabine was positively beaming now.

“You did?”

“Yeah. We should try the connection again. It should work now. Or we hope so. There was something we had not tried before, but now we have.”

Not going into the more technobabble, simply offering her hand to Ahsoka to get up.

“Sure. Let’s try it!”

Ahsoka was on her feet in no time. The two headed for the cockpit with a lighter spring in their step now that there once again was hope.

That of returning home.
