Summary
In one tragic night, Aemond is responsible for an accident which leads to the death of his wife, Alys, and the grievous injury of his nephew, Luke. Running from grief and guilt, Aemond joins the priesthood. Years later, Luke reenters Aemond's life, threatening to unsettle his carefully constructed peace.

I've not taken away the Targaryen exceptionalism. In this universe, the Targaryens are still Valyrian. Valyrians are a tiny diasporic ethnic group, some of whom live in the United States. Valyria, the tiny Nordic island, was obliterated over a century ago by an enormous volcanic eruption. Instead of dragonriding, Targaryens are noted for their peak athleticism, especially their mastery of ice sports.
