He turns his head to see Laffitte’s reaction. The way his smile grows a little wider, eyes wrinkling at the corners with what might be fleeting but genuine amusement before it fades. His eyes as they meet Van Augur’s, one eyebrow lifted.
“Is that right?” he asks.
“I hadn’t noticed.”
“I think,” Laffitte hums, “that you weren’t looking.”
