The dragon festival was all that had been talked about the whole week and Kirishima looked around in anticipation of seeing his favorite blonde the second the squad arrived. Obviously he would have preferred for Bakugo to arrive with them, but he had been on patrol with Deku and Todoroki beforehand and the latter two had sworn they would make sure to drag him along.
"Kiribabe, your crush is showing," teased Mina as she snuck up behind him and elbowed him in the ribs. Kirishima quickly turned as bright red as his hair and averted his gaze to the ground.
"I'm so offended!" Denki exclaimed, putting the back of a hand against his forehead and striking a dramatic pose. "Are we so unentertaining that you are trying to ditch us for your new boyfriend the second we arrive?"
"Bro!" Now Kirishima buried his face in his hands and wished the squad had never figured out about his crush. "We're not boyfriends and you know it."
"You could be if you just confessed," Sero interrupted as he clapped him on the back and then slung an arm around his shoulders. "None of us understand why you wanna date our resident gremlin but we support you in your insanity. It's obvious to anyone with eyes that Blasty treats you differently than anyone else so you have more of a chance than you think."
Kirishima peaked out between his fingers and could see Mina and Denki both nodding emphatically to what Sero had said. He had in fact been considering confessing this very evening, but he had to find Bakugo before anything else could happen.
The foursome moved around the festival stalls grabbing snacks and looking at decorations. Kirishima tried to have a good time but couldn't help but be distracted.
"Hey there's Todoroki and Deku; maybe they know where Kacchan is," Denki said pointing across a walkway. Kirishima tried and failed to not hurry over to their friends.
"Guys did Bakugo come with you? I haven't seen him?" He stood on his tiptoes, which was completely unnecessary given the height he had gained the last several years, and scanned across the crowd.
"Yeah kacchan is here," confirmed Deku giving him a knowing look. "He wanted to shower after the shift so we stayed for that and then he sort of disappeared on us as soon as we got here. But he did tell us that if we found you to tell you to go to booth X and he would be waiting."
"Thanks bro!" Kirishima called as he took off at a sprint.
As he approached Booth X he noticed everyone in this part of the festival was dressed up in dragon costumes. He marveled at the details as he continued looking for the familiar tuft of blonde hair and wondered which costume Bakugo would like best. Suddenly he was taken off guard as something enveloped his head and clamped down.
"Why there you are, I've been looking for you," a gruff voice purred in his ear.
"BAKUGO!" Kirishima cried out excitedly. He tried to turn around to greet his friend but found he was trapped by whatever was still clamped on his head. "Bro? Can you see what is this thing on my head? I'm trapped."
The voice chuckled lowly. "You have been captured by a dragon and its taking you back to its lair."
Kirishima felt himself start to be dragged backwards and he struggled to follow while laughing. A few moments later the thing was finally removed from his head and Kirishima spun around to see Bakugo taking off a huge dragon mask.
"Bakugo! That thing is so cool! Where did you get it? Can I try it on?" As Kirishima rambled off his litany of questions he noticed that Bakugo was just standing there with a dopy grin on his face. He stopped mid sentence and just grinned back.
"I'm glad you came," he said after another couple of moments.
Bakugo shrugged. "Knew you wanted me to be here." He looked at the giant dragon head mask, now hanging from his hand. "Figured you'd like this. I found a stall that sells them so if you don't like this one we can go exchange it for another."
Kirishima could feel his face turn red. "You got it for me?"
Bakugo nodded and grinned. "I was told people should bring a gift to a...to a date." He held out the hand not holding the mask and Kirishima eagerly reached forwards and grabbed it.
He opened his mouth to reply, but a brief scuffle caught their attention. They looked to where the noise had originated from and saw a mummified Denki wrapped nearly head to toe in Sero's tape. Standing next to him were Mina and Sero, both wearing apologetic expressions, Todoroki, and Deku who looked ready to burst into tears at any moment.
"Did my advice work? They appear to be holding hands so I assume it worked." Todoroki made as if to walk closer to them but Deku grabbed his arm and held him back.
"So..sorry Kacchan. Sorry Kiri-kun. Enjoy your da...um...evening." Deku gave a quick wave and then turned to walk back in the opposite direction, clearly dragging Todoroki behind him.
Sero and Mina gave them knowing winks before picking up Denki and following the others. "Have fun guys!" They called back knowingly.
"Nosy fuckers," grunted Bakugo but he didn't drop Kiri's hand. "
Kirishima grinned at him then looked down at the mask in his other hand. "Show me the stall where you got it. If I'm gonna have a cool dragon mask to wear then I wanna get you one too." Bakugo rolled his eyes but didn't say no, so Kirishima knew he liked the idea. If he was saying yes to matching dragon masks then hopefully he would also say yes to being boyfriends, but for that he would wait for the end of the date.
He made it halfway through the night.
And Bakugo said yes.
