Work Text:
He very almost forgets date night (not uncommon), but he checks the family planner in time... mostly because Claire incidentally reminds him to sort out food for him and Matt. Given he forgot their last date night only a few weeks ago, he makes sure he puts extra effort in to make up for it, which is usually almost a monthly occurrence anyway.
Peter even plates up their takeout food instead of using the horrible gritty boxes neither of them likes. The food ends up cold before Matt's actually there, but he thinks having his favorite flowers fresh in a vase makes up for that. It should, anyway.
Matt enters and comes over to kiss him, and Peter kisses him back. "The flowers are a nice touch," he says. "When did you remember?" He teases with a grin.
"An hour ago," Peter admits with a grin. "And then I got the flowers afterwards but there was a bit of trouble getting back so the food is cold but I remembered how bad it was heated up last time. So it's still cold, but it tastes nice?"
Matt laughs lightly. "Thank you," he says genuinely. "It's perfect."
"Your definition of perfect is still very abnormal," he plays, leaning in to kiss him again. "I also bought ice cream."
Matt kisses him, drawing him into his arms. "Anything could be perfect with you. What flavor did you get?"
He smiles, gladly welcoming the embrace. "Strawberry, because the kids won't touch it. But I got chocolate and caramel for them."
Matt grins. "Thank God. The fiends," he comments.
"Our hellish little offspring," he jokes, kissing him again. Matt deepens it, pressing against him.
When the kiss breaks, he teases, "The devil sure is in them."
"That's all your doing, you know that, right?" he jokes, reaching up to slide his fingers through Matt's hair.
"Oh yeah," Matt confirms. "I'm a really bad influence."
"Such a bad influence," he agrees. "D'you wanna cuddle more or eat?"
"Let's eat," Matt decides. "Then cuddles."
He peels off of him, but gives him a quick kiss on the lips. "Promise next time I'm planning things we'll go out and do something," he grins, sitting down on the couch to eat.
Matt grins. "I don't mind. I'll never complain about getting to spend time alone with you."
"Phew, cos I need one night where I can cuddle you without the kids fighting me for your attention," he plays.
Matt laughs. "Yeah, they get that from you."
He gasps. "Yeah, fair," he grins, shoving in a mouthful of food before saying, "You love it though."
Matt grins. "Yeah, I do," he agrees. "Even if it is why I can't work from home."
"Do you remember when I used to do college work in your office?" he asks. "I don't think I could manage to do that around the kids either."
"I do," he grins. "I'm pretty sure that's the only reason you graduated."
"That's rude. But probably fair and true."
Matt reaches for his hand and he takes it.
"Just wait until the kids start doing exams. All at the same time," Peter jokes. "You might wanna move to your office for a bit."
"Uggggh," Matt groans playfully. "You're right."
"The stress, the arguments, the lack of focus? Oh boy. I might move out with you."
Matt laughs. "Claire would kill us."
"Nahhh," he says. "Okay yeah, probably. Not sure which is worse, exam-stressed kids or Claire... No, it's Claire. You're right, definitely Claire."
"Angry Claire is the most powerful force in the universe."
He shudders. "Pretty sure that's why I'm not in charge of getting the kids out of the way when you two have your date night," he grins. "Between forgetting and having basically no time perception... You two planned for that, didn't you?"
"Oh yeah," Matt grins. "I try to avoid setting you up for failure."
"Yeah. That's fair. Claire's real scary when she's mad at you, that'd be like... a weekly occurrence basically."
"Yeah. I couldn't do that to you. Or to me," Matt laughs.
He grins. "Appreciated. The kids on the other hand, you're happy to do that to them," he teases. Claire's definitely at least a bit softer on them. Even if she's still very much the disciplinarian in their household.
"Yeah, totally fine," he jokes.
"What an asshole," he plays.
"That's me."
"I love you," Peter smiles. "Asshole and all," he jokes.
"Thank God. I love you too," Matt says with a smile.
"Even if you're a ridiculously slow eater," he says, because despite all his talking of course he's almost finished.
"You're welcome for not risking you having to give me the heimlich."
He rolls his eyes. "I'm gonna get the ice cream. You want any toppings?"
"Mmmm how much chocolate magic shell do we have left?"
"Depends if Felix has left it alone," he grins, getting up and checking the cupboards. Out of all their kids, Felix is the one who lives off of chocolate. "Good news, the bottle's here," he calls, picking it up to try and figure out how much is inside. "Almost empty, I'll let you finish it off."
Matt grins. "Okay, but you better not tell him," he says.
"I won't," he promises. "But it's your responsibility to remember we need more," he grins, scooping out ice cream for Matt first and then emptying the magic shell sauce over it.
"I can do that," Matt agrees with a grin. "Thanks."
He brings over Matt's dish. "Sweet treat for my sweet husband."
"Thank you, my lovely husband."
Peter kisses his forehead before scooping out his own ice cream and sitting back down with him. "Gotta repay you for saving me from Claire without even telling me," he grins.
Matt moves to cuddle up to him. "Always."
"Oh, forever in debt to you? Damn, forgot this is how devils work," he plays, leaning in for a kiss.
Matt laughs. "Forever," he agrees, drawing the word out.
He whines. "Sold my soul for the most perfect man in existence and this is what I've gotta put up with?"
"Yup. This and so many kisses." He kisses him again.
"Mmm, I can suffer that," he agrees, kissing him again before cuddling into his side, waiting for him to finish his food. "So slow. Damn sustenance taking up valuable cuddle time," he plays, before they ditch their bowls and Matt climbs into his lap and he wraps his arms around him.
"Honestly. With the amount you eat you'd think it would take you longer," Matt teases.
"Yeah but no luck. Superhuman speed obviously means superhuman speedy chewing, duh."
Matt laughs. "Shit."
"Shame it doesn't also mean superhuman cooking skills," he plays.
"Claire's real super powers," says Matt.
"Oh totally," he agrees, pressing in to kiss his jaw. "Though the healing and medical knowledge are pretty useful too, the cooking is definitely the main appeal, right?"
"Honestly, at this point?" Matt returns.
"I'm so telling her that."
"Don't you dare," Matt says with a laugh.
