Oh no. I stop, hesitating for a second before turning around. Charles is standing there, looking at me with a calm, unreadable expression. For a moment, neither of us says anything, and I’m sure I must look like an idiot, standing there with my half-dried shirt and flushed cheeks.
Then, with a small, almost imperceptible smile, he says, “I think you look nice.”
The words hang in the air between us, so simple yet so unexpected that I can’t help but let out a small, surprised smile of my own. As per usual, I don’t know what to say, so I just nod, my mouth opening and closing uselessly as I watch him disappear back into the bathroom.
And just like that, the door swings shut, leaving me standing alone in the hallway, the echo of his words still ringing in my ears.
