Work Text:
satoru gojo was a fearless man. nobody could rival nor challenge him.
gojo didn’t care about many things, he only cared about a couple. his students, his friends and of course, his best friend suguru geto. though he hadn’t seen him in years, suguru was someone satoru could never hope to forget.
he’s tried every way over the years, burying himself in his work and trying many other methods that drastically effect his well-being. satoru gojo was the strongest sorcerer of the modern age — so why was one man making him second guess everything?
it had been years since suguru left, he knew that obsessing over that fact wasn’t healthy in the slightest but he couldn’t bring himself to stop. every night it was the same routine, he laid in his bed pondering about what could’ve been if suguru hadn’t left that day. the memories they could’ve shared and the different ways they could’ve changed the world. they were the strongest after all, weren’t they?
“gojo?” satoru turned to the pink eyed boy eyeing him a concerned look in his eyes. “thank god, you’re alive!” the young boy exclaimed. gojo looked at him with a mocking stare, yuji looked sheepish and gazed at gojo. the albino haired male looked behind them to see fushiguro, a young boy who he considered a son. megumi was distracted, staring at the patterned floor beneath him. “i’ll be going now, see you guys later.” gojo muttered before retreating to his office.
it began to get late so he took off his mask and put his feet up on the creaky, wooden desk in-front of him. he glared at the ceiling above him and started to fade from reality into his subconscious.
he began his normal train of thought, how his training could develop more to his skills and then obviously, his distant best friend. the way his eyelashes fluttered and his hair blew in the wind.
he groaned to himself, feeling frustrated. he remembered everything about his friend down to a t. his porcelain skin and the way he looked at him. satoru knew that he would give anything to have suguru look at him that way again. gojo was completely and utterly defeated. he wanted to see geto again and feel his warm hands against his body.
gojos eyes started to sting, on rare occasions, the thought of suguru geto would make him so upset he would resort to juvenile crying. he had always hated himself for that.
gojo sighed before reluctantly dropping his feet from his desk. he rested his elbows on the table and put his head in his hands. he groaned once again. he didn’t know how to deal with these waves of emotions all at once. he wasn’t one to confront his emotions head on, suguru had always helped him with that. satoru peeked at the cellphone residing on his desk and made himself pick it up. he looked down at his contacts with a certain person in his mind.
he scrolled rapidly until he found it, there he was. suguru. satoru had only texted since he left, keeping him updated on things that were happening every so often.
gojo stopped himself from calling and clicked on his settings app. he went onto the phone settings and turned off ‘caller ID’ he sighed and pressed back onto the contacts. now that he was anonymous, he pressed the call button on suguru’s contact.
his eyes widened at the sudden ring, like he hadn’t expected himself to actually do it. it rung once, twice, three times before suguru picked up. “suguru geto speaking, are you having trouble with anything today mon- good sir?” gojo winced at the stern sound of getos voice, he sounded so different yet so familiar. “hi, suguru.” suguru’s voice fell flat, satoru thought he was going to hang up before he spoke again. “satoru?” he uttered with a questioning tone to his voice. “how are you suguru?” gojo asked with a smile. satoru heard suguru stutter and he didn’t speak again. satoru took it upon himself to spill the next response. “i haven’t stopped thinking about you. have you thought about me?” satoru thought he might seem desperate but he didn’t care. he had begun to forget how soothing suguru’s voice was.
“why are you calling me?” suguru asked seeming frustrated but satoru wasn’t sure if it was with him or hisself. “i- i don’t know. i just felt inclined.” gojo heard suguru sigh before he talked again. “you can’t be obsessing over this, i’m not coming back satoru.” that hurt gojo. “i know that.” suguru hesitated. “so why is it that you still feel the need to call me? you know nothing is going to change, satoru.” the way suguru muttered satorus name had him in a chokehold. he was completely infatuated with the boy on the other side of the cellphone line. “don’t you think i know that? i don’t know why i called you, i just felt the need to hear your voice.” satoru snapped, he regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth but before he could apologise suguru was speaking again. “you need to let me go.” satoru grunted. let him go? that was an impossible feat for satoru and he knew that.
“i couldn’t possibly hope to achieve that.” satoru uttered, he tried to say it so suguru couldn’t hear but clearly, geto in fact did hear. “i have to go i can’t be-“ suguru began before satoru cut him off. “can we meet up?” gojo asked. he heard geto choke and he just waited in anticipation for his answer. “what?” satoru paused. “can we me-“ suguru stopped him. “no, i heard you.” gojo hummed. “then why are you asking what?” suguru groaned and gojo waited once again. “because that’s a stupid question. of course not.” gojo felt hurt. he knew it was impossible but a small part of him wanted geto to say yes. “why not?” gojo asked. he didn’t care how dumb he sounded, he just wanted to see his friend again. “because we can’t.” gojo faintly giggled which caught suguru off guard. “that’s not a reason.” gojo thought he could hear his eyes roll.
“fine.” suguru muttered and satoru choked. “wait.. are you serious?” he questioned, fully expecting geto to say he was joking or something but he didn’t — all that came from the raven haired boy was a laugh.
“yes. believe it or not, i’ve thought about you a lot too, satoru.”
