Summary
Ace dies. Only he doesn't. He wakes up in another world crawling with monsters. He passes time looking for other dead loved ones who might have ended up in the same place by hunting the demons, until he becomes one himself. Then there's only ONE demon he hunts. The rest are just collateral damage.
If he meets other people on his way to become human again, that's just a good side to this shitty world.

Or: A One Piece Fix-it AU where instead of just chucking his vivre card at Luffy and leaving, Ace also makes a vivre card for Luffy. Unfortunately for Ace, Luffy is a chaotic menace who can't stay out of trouble. Ace has a crewmate killer to catch, but he can't seem to get three feet away before Luffy's vivre card bursts into flames and does the weirdest shit imaginable. Needless to say, his revenge quest against Blackbeard is side tracked.

Summary
A second of silence passes as Newgate and Makino stare at each other. Newgate knew she was doing her job, caring for Luffy, and making sure that he was safe. But he couldn't help but feel a little offended. He would be a fool to risk his Family.
"Say what you must, but I assure you I love my family rather than being a fool who would endanger them.” He smiles. “Luffy is safe and welcome here.”
For now, that’s enough for Makino to hear.
or Luffy's parents die and Garp is given custody. After Garp gets arrested for abuse, Luffy gets bounced around in the foster system. Eventually he makes it to Newgates.
