Chapter Text
Earth was a perilous place. She had realized that very quickly after she arrived. It was much different from her home planet. At first, she wasn't sure how she was ever going to live out the rest of her life here. It was crowded, dangerous, and always at war. Her home planet had been a peaceful, prosperous land. Until she had ruined it all.
But she soon grew to love Earth. She embraced the planet and quickly learned the way of life here. Since her physiology was very similar to humans, she blended right in. She picked up a job at the local elementary school as a librarian and found a small apartment to rent. A few months later, she had adjusted to the planet and human life. Finally, she felt comfortable living here.
Adina Zormann was glad to call Earth her home. But that didn't mean it was a perfect world
She had noticed early on that crime was a large problem. Thieves, murderers, and abusers ran wild and the police were spread too thinly to catch them all. Adina couldn't idly stand by and watch as innocent lives got destroyed with no justice. She felt a calling to help, to protect. She had ignored it for months at first. Using her powers of telekinesis and mind control was something she vowed to never do again. They had caused her to be in this situation in the first place. But she just couldn't ignore it anymore.
Donning red boots, a domino mask, and a black costume with a red 'K' plastered on the chest, she became known to the world as the superhero "Kin." Kin worked independently for a year, working out of Horizon City in Massachusetts. She mainly dealt with small crooks and petty thieves. But word soon spread of a new superhero with telekinesis and a few supervillains wanted to take a shot at her. They were nothing Kin couldn't handle. With ease, she rounded criminals and villains left and right. Kin made her mark on the earth and built a reputation for herself that revolved around goodness and justice. A reputation that the whole world came to know. A reputation that even a Martian knew. Kin couldn't remember the exact message that was relayed to her one night when she was sitting in her apartment. She had been watching the news about a meteor that fell to Earth and spawned an alien destroyer. It was a telepathic message but it was faint. It kept giving coordinates and saying that there was danger in the mountains and that she was needed. She wasted no time and sprung into action. She hurriedly zipped up her costume and jumped out of the window, flying as quickly as possible to the mountains.
When she arrived, she was shocked at the scene before her. Alien crafts were attacking some other heroes she recognized. There was Superman, flinging the ships with his great strength. Green Lantern, piercing through the ships with his power ring. Hawkgirl, destroying them with her mace. Batman, standing on a cliff next to his damaged Batwing. All of them were fighting a losing battle. She had to help.
Kin looked behind her to see that a ship was shooting at her. She deflected the lasers with her telekinetic powers and shot them back at the craft, causing it to explode. The loud, piercing sound shook her for just a moment before she recovered and flew to a higher level. She grabbed ahold of two more ships and smashed them together with her powers. She was about to destroy another one when Hawkirl's wing got struck by a laser and she fell back into Kin. The two girls fell onto a cliff and Kin asked, "You okay?"
Hawkgirl groaned and nodded her head, "Yeah. I think."
The ship circled back around and readied their cannon to shoot at them. Kin's heart dropped when she realized she didn't have time to deflect their lasers. She closed her eyes and expected a fiery death when a woman flew to their rescue. She looked at them and spoke, "Allow me." She turned back towards the ship and deflected their lasers with her metal bracelets. The lasers hit the ship and it exploded. Kin braced herself for impact as the ship broke apart and flew towards them. But the impact never came. Green Lantern had used his ring to create a force shield around them.
"Thanks," Hawkgirl said to the mysterious woman.
She smiled at her before the three girls flew back to where Batman was. Next to him stood the Flash, holding the missing piece of the Batwing. Kin had seen Flash on television a few times and found him to be adorable. He had a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. She had never worked with him but their paths crossed occasionally given their line of work. Every time she saw him, he always had a smile on his face and a witty one-liner on standby. She greeted the speedster as she slightly levitated above the ground. It was something she did to maintain the strength and concentration of her powers.
Flash smiled back at Kin before looking at the mystery woman. He shoved the Batwing piece into Batman's hands and his eyes widened, "Whoa! Where have you been all my life?"
"Themyscria."
"Huh?" Flash tilted his head at her unknown location.
"The home of the Amazons," Hawkgirl translated as she landed with Green Lantern, Superman, and an unfamiliar hero with green skin. "I always thought it was merely a legend."
"I assure you, it's as real as the ground on which we stand." The woman introduced, "I am Diana, princess of the Amazons." Kin flinched at the word "princess."
"Pinch me," Flash gawked. "I must be dreaming."
Kin reached over and pinched Flash's arm, causing him to yelp in pain. He rubbed his arm as Kin giggled, "You asked for it."
"Themyscria is protected by the Gods," Diana explained. "But I could not idly stand by while the rest of the world was in danger."
"It's lucky you showed up when you did," Superman commented.
"No, not luck," The Martain shook his head. "I telepathically summoned them."
Flash looked around in confusion and spoke up, "Look, I'm usually pretty quick on the uptake but would someone please tell me what the heck is going on here?"
•••••••••••••
"So, J'onn J'onzz, you came from Mars to warn us?" Diana questioned the Martian. He had told them that he was Mars and came to warn Earth of the coming danger but was captured before he could tell anyone. Kin was trying to wrap her head around the whole thing. It seemed straight out of a sci-fi movie. However, it did explain the sudden meteor and alien destroyers they encountered. J'onn acted strange too. She couldn't tell if it was because he was so traumatized by what happened to him or if it was his Martian personality. Either way, Kin wasn't weirded out. She was technically an alien too.
"This is just too weird," Flash commented.
"I've seen stranger things," Green Lantern retorted.
"We first encountered them a thousand of your Earth years ago," J'onn explained. "It was a golden age. Our Martian civilization was at the height of its peace and prosperity. And then.... they arrived. Where they came from, no one knew but they were determined to make our planet their own. We Martians were peaceful people and the taking of any life was abhorrent to us. But we quickly learned the ways of war. For centuries, the battles raged on. Every trace of our once-great civilization was obliterated. We fought valiantly but the invaders were parasites who fed on our psychic energy. As we grew weaker, they grew stronger. They even absorbed our shape-changing abilities. Finally, a small group of Martian survivors planned one final desperate attack. Inside their underground stronghold, we unleashed a powerful nerve gas that paralyzed them. The attack was successful, but the cost was dear. I was the only survivor, the last of my kind. I sealed a citadel to keep them in a constant state of suspended animation. For over 500 years, I stood guard over them but then, while I was in a hibernation cycle astronauts from Earth unsealed the stronghold and accidentally revived the invaders."
"Wait!" Flash interrupted. "Those astronauts never said anything about finding life on Mars."
Green Lantern grumbled, "Hmm, some pencil pusher in Washington probably decided it should be classified information."
"With all the Martians gone the invaders had nothing left to feed upon so they turned their sights to Earth," J'onn continued. "I narrowly escaped and came here to warn of the coming danger. While I was being held against my will the invaders sent advance agents to disable Earth's defenses."
"That's why they sabotaged the deep-space monitoring network," Batman commented. He had informed the group that he had been surveilling suspicious employees, who turned out to be some of the invaders, at the satellite communications facility. He had witnessed them explode a tower that communicated with satellites in deep space. "So we couldn't detect their activities."
"Well, we have to stop them," Kin declared. "Before it's too late to save Earth."
"It may already be too late," J'onn walked over to the edge as a loud cloud of thunder rumbled.
"What was that?" Diana nervously asked.
"It's begun," J'onn pointed at the horizon. They all looked in his direction to see dark clouds looming over the city and lightning crackling in the sky. Kin gasped. She had never seen unruly weather on Earth.
"What are they doing?" Hawkgirl questioned. The entire team watched in horror as dark, rolling clouds filled the sky.
"The invaders are nocturnal," J'onn informed. "They want to blot out the sun so they can live in perpetual darkness."
"Friends of yours?" Flash joked towards Batman.
The dark knight glared at him and scolded, "It's no joke."
"What's the big problem?" Flash asked as he sped towards J'onn. "Can't you just whip up another batch of that nerve gas?"
"Unfortunately, no," J'onn shook his head. "The gas can only be made from a rare Martian plant. I brought a sample with me, but it was destroyed when I was captured."
"So now what?" Kin sighed in defeat.
"We'll have to take out those factories," Diana declared.
"Lady, this is no job for amateurs," Green Lantern argued.
Diana scowled at him, "We Amazons are warriors born. Want to test me?"
Green Lantern took a towards the Amazon and balled his fists. He was about to hit her when Superman pushed himself in front of them, "Let's not fight among ourselves. John, we're gonna need all the help we can get."
"Fine. Sorry, Your Highness," Green Lantern mumbled, causing Kin to glare at him. She didn't like the way he was speaking to Diana. Just because she was a princess doesn't mean that she was less than them. Green Lantern continued, "Tactically, we'll have multiple objectives so we'll need to split into teams."
Flash rushed over to Diana and swung his arm over her shoulder, "Dibs on the Amazon."
•••••••••••••
"You two are no fun," Flash complained. He, Kin, and Green Lantern were traveling to an island off the coast of the Philippines to take out another factory. After lots of arguments, Flash was forced to go with them instead of Diana. Kin rolled her eyes at Flash's complaint. He only wanted to go with Diana because she was pretty. Now was not the time to be flirty and catch a date.
"This isn't supposed to be fun," Kin scoffed.
"We've got a job to do and we will do it better without distractions, understood?" Green Lantern asked.
"Yeah, yeah. I hear you," Flash rolled his eyes and began to run faster on the water.
When they got to the island, they watched the huge walkers from a nearby cliff. Kin watched in anger as the aliens shot their lasers and darkened the sky. It was horrible how easily they had taken over and destroyed everything in their path. She was reminded of the horrible war on her home planet. The war she caused.
"That's our target," Green Lantern pointed at the factory. "Now, listen up. Here's the plan."
"What plan?" Flash scoffed. "We kick their butts, right? Let's get this over with."
Before Kin or Green Lantern could argue with him, Flash sped off and began to taunt the huge walkers. Kin rolled her eyes again. While Flash was great to work with, he was a little overzealous at times. His speed caused him to not want to slow down and think before jumping into action. Green Lantern sighed in frustration and turned towards Kin, "Well, the plan is to protect Flash now."
"Got it," Kin nodded. They turned back to see Flash running away from the lasers. Her eyes widened as she saw Flash trip over a rock and fall into some quick-drying mud. She watched in fear as the walkers marched closer towards him. Flash struggled to get out of the sticky substance, trying to desperately pull his limbs out.
"Fool," Green Lantern grumbled before he and Kin took off to save the speedster. "Hang tight, hotshot."
Kin grabbed ahold of one of the legs on the creature with her mind. She lifted the beast a few feet in the air and flung it into the side of the mountain. It exploded and the other creatures started to shoot at her. She flew and maneuvered away from the lasers and began to fight them while Green Lantern started to slice Flash out of the mud.
"Heh, I'm kinda stuck here," Flash said.
Green Lantern rolled his eyes, "I hope the others are having better luck than we are."
Kin flew between the legs of a walker while another shot its lasers at her. The beams hit the alien's legs, causing it to stagger and fall into an explosion. Using her telekinesis, she summoned rocks and trees to hurl towards the destroyers. It kept their attention on the objects being thrown at them instead of at her or Green Lantern or Flash.
"Of all the idiotic, boneheaded, glory-grabbing moves!" Green Lantern scolded Flash. He continued to cut the mud off him while Kin battled the walkers. "Haven't you ever heard of teamwork?"
One of the aliens shot a laser at Kin and she hid behind a tree, barely missing it. She began to fight back and yelled, "Can we save the lecture till later? I need a little help here."
Green Lantern finished getting Flash out of the mud and flew to help Kin. The walkers started to shoot at him, causing him to create a force shield around him. But the invaders shot a yellow gas at him that penetrated his force shield. Green Lantern started to cough and fall to the ground. Kin instantly flew down to where Flash was fanning around the gas with his arms. She gasped when she Green Lantern lying on the ground, unconscious, "Lantern!"
Before she or Flash could even do anything, a walker shot a laser a Kin. She didn't even time have to deflect it. It shocked Kin, causing her to scream in pain. She groaned as she fell on top of Green Lantern.
"Kin!" Flash shouted. Two more walkers marched towards Flash. He nervously gulped before he grabbed Kin and Green Lantern and threw them off his shoulders. He took off running back towards the city and away from the island, "Uh oh, gotta run!"
•••••••••••••
After Green Lantern and Kin regained consciousness, they rushed back to Metropolis. They had received a telepathic message from J'onn saying that there was more danger and they needed to regroup as quickly as possible. Kin looked around at the city and saw how chaotic things had gotten. People were destroying buildings, looting businesses, setting fires, and running around in a rampage. She frowned. They were scared. It was natural for them to act this way. She saw people act the same way on her planet when the war erupted. It made her even more determined to save the Earth.
"Sorry we're late," Green Lantern apologized as they joined Diana and J'onn at the top of a building. "Had to stop and help some civilians."
"What'd you call us back for?" Flash asked.
"Superman's been captured," Diana explained as she pointed at the huge factory in the middle of the city. "He's trapped somewhere inside there with Hawkgirl."
"And where's Batman?" Kin questioned. She looked around for the dark knight but was nowhere to be seen. He may be a lone wolf but it wasn't like him to desert someone in the middle of a battle.
"He acted heroically... to the very end," J'onn spoke in a sad tone. Kin gasped. Her heart sank into her stomach. Batman was one of the first superheroes she saw on the news when she first got here. He helped inspire her to tap back into her powers and use them for good. For justice. He couldn't be dead.
"The bat's gone?" Flash's eyes widened as he realized what J'onn was saying. He glanced at Kin, who had looked down at her feet in mourning. He shot her a sad smile to which she returned.
"He was a true warrior," Diana complimented.
"This is not good, definitely not good," Green Lantern shook his head as he stared down at the madness of Metropolis. "We need to get closer," Kin declared. "We're not getting any vantage from up here." She flew down near the factory, dodging a few invaders along the way. The others followed and they hid behind some rubble. Peering over the rocks, they saw that the opening Superman and Hawkgirl made had been repaired, meaning they were going to have to make their own. Flash complained, "I can't believe we're doing this again."
"Superman and Hawkgirl are inside. We have to save them. It's up to us," Kin argued back. She turned towards J'onn and worriedly asked, "They are still in there, right?" J'onn didn't answer but his eyes glowed orange. Kin gave him a strange look, "J'onn?"
"Yes," the Martian finally answered. "Your friends are alive, but we must act quickly. The Imperium is coming."
"I don't like the sound of that," Kin muttered under her breath.
"The who?" Flash furrowed his eyebrows.
"The supreme intelligence that controls these invaders," J'onn explained. "We have met before."
"Can we trust this space case?" Flash whispered to Kin.
She would be lying if she said she completely trusted J'onn. She knew his intentions were pure but she could sense he was hiding something. The telekinetic shrugged, "What choice do we have?"
"Okay, we're going in," Green Lantern announced. "Flash, Kin, create a diversion. Diana, watch my back."
"You want to rely on an amateur?" Diana teased.
Green Lantern glared at her before he said, "Let's move."
He, Diana, and J'onn took off to create an opening in the factory while Kin and Flash stayed behind the rubble. Flash sighed in frustration. This was way out of his league and Kin's too. Neither of them had ever dealt with anything this big before. He gazed up at the huge walkers, "How are we going to create a diversion?"
"I'll distract them and you can destroy them," Kin answered before she flew up to the aliens' height. She got their attention by picking up a large piece of rubble and telekinetically throwing it at them. She dodged their lasers and made two of them accidentally shoot each other, causing them to explode. She flew circles around the last one before Flash threw a rock at it.
The walker turned away from Kin to Flash. He stuck his tongue out and teased, "Tag, you're it!" He quickly ran off as the beast shot lasers at him. Kin furrowed her eyebrows as she wondered what Flash was doing. The walker emerged from the smoke to find Flash leaning up against a rock and shouting, "Not even close! Come on, slowpoke. I dare you. Over here!"
The alien raised its leg to step on Flash but he sped out of the way, causing it to smash its leg on the rock. The creature started to rock back and forth as it tried to maintain its balance. Kin flew as quickly as she could and punched the walker, making it fall over and explode. She joined Flash and complimented, "Good work."
"You too," Flash smiled. They found the opening the other made and Kin grabbed Flash's hands, carrying him up into the factory. They caught up with the others and walked as J'onn led them to where Superman and Hawkgirl were being held. However, they all stopped as they heard the aliens chattering around the corner. They pressed themselves up against the wall while J'onn peered around the corner. Kin began to nervously tap her fingers on her leg as she heard the aliens' strange way of talking. She was afraid that they would be discovered and share the same fate as Batman. She knew a hero was never supposed to be scared but she had never experienced anything like this.
"Wait here," J'onn told the others. He morphed into one of the aliens and went around the corner. He said something to them before they ran towards the group with their guns drawn. Suddenly, J'onn appeared behind them and stuck his arms through their bodies. The aliens groaned as they fell to the floor. J'onn motioned for them to follow him, "Come."
"Is it just me or does he creep you out too?" Flash asked as they followed J'onn.
"Stop being mean," Kin scolded, causing Flash to playfully stick his tongue out at her.
The group trekked through the strange place and Kin looked around in astonishment. She had never seen anything like this, even back on her home planet where their technology was more advanced. It was marvelous and scary at the same time. The factory was made out of something squishy. Kin could tell that as she watched Flash's feet sink a little into the floor with each step. Every inch of it seemed to be connected to the invaders.
"We are close now," J'onn announced as they reached a dead end. J'onn put his hand up to it and informed, "I sense they are somewhere beyond these walls."
Diana started to push on the wall and tried to knock it down but failed. She shook her head, "It's no use. We'll have to find another way."
"Stand back," Green Lantern pushed Diana aside and began to cut a hole in the wall using his ring.
J'onn's eyes glowed orange before he said something that made Kin grow even more nervous, "We haven't much time left."
After five minutes, Green Lantern got done cutting the circle and Kin used her telekinetic powers to knock it down. Kin's eyes widened once she saw Superman and Hawkgirl hanging upside down from a substance in the ceiling. They looked like they had been drugged.
"Great Hera," Diana gasped as she, Green Lantern, Flash, and Kin ran towards them to help.
Kin reached out to pull Hawkgirl out of the substance but jumped back when J'onn yelled, "Wait! Something is not right."
Suddenly, Hawkgirl and Superman's eyes shot open. Inside of their normal color, they were bright, beady red. Kin gasped in surprise and slowly backed away from her friends. The wall began to seal again and Green Lantern tried to stop it but he was too late. "It's a trap!"
The room started to fill with gas and everyone started to cough. Kin gasped for air as she breathed in the deadly gas. She reached out for something to hold and she tried to keep her balance. She ended up grabbing Flash's hand and they both dropped to the floor, coughing violently. She fought to stay awake, to push the gas away from her. But it was too toxic. Flash weakly squeezed her hand and they both fell unconscious.
•••••••••••••
Kin groaned as she started to wake up. She looked around to see that she and others, including Superman and Hawkgirl, were stuck in some mud-like substance. The same substance the fake Superman and Hawkgirl were stuck in. She tried to move her hands and feet to pull herself out of it but she was stuck. She even tried to use her powers to levitate herself but the weight of the mud was too great. Kin looked to her left to see that Flash was beginning to stir. An odd feeling settled in her stomach as she remembered the feeling of her hand in his.
"Earth's mightiest heroes," One of the invaders greeted as It suddenly morphed into Senator Carter. "Welcome."
"Senator Carter," Superman gasped as he looked at the impostor. He had been working closely with the politician to disarm nuclear weapons in a policy for world peace. However, this now seemed to be a ploy to make sure Earth had no weapons dangerous enough to harm the invaders.
"Unfortunately, the real Carter never returned from Mars."
"And you used me to weaken Earth's defenses," Superman spat in rage.
"You were so eager to cooperate. Thanks to you, the humans were totally helpless against us."
"It's not over yet."
"Wrong again, Superman," The invader shook its head as the ceiling began to open to show a huge ship hovering over the city. It sent another smaller ship down to the factory and all the invaders began to bow in its presence. "All hail the Imperium!"
A purple-black creature that had lots of tentacles and resembled an octopus came floating out of the ship. It floated towards the heroes before it recognized J'onn. It spoke, "J'onn J'onzz. It's been a long time." The Imperium summoned J'onn closer to him. Two of the soldiers shocked J'onn with electric poles, forcing him back into his normal Martian state. "Much better. You have defied us for centuries."
"And I will never bow before you or any of your kind," J'onn hissed as he stood back up.
"Then we will personally see to finishing what should have been accomplished long ago," The Imperium declared. "The elimination of the last Martian."
The beast shoved its tentacles under J'onn's skin. It set bolts of electricity through him and brought him closer to its body, absorbing him. Kin watched in horror as the creature tortured J'onn. The Martian screamed in pain while the Imperium electrocuted him. The rest of the invaders stood there and watched as if this was a grand show to them. Kin tried to use her telekinetic powers to pull J'onn out of the creature but it was no use. The Imperium was too strong.
"Let go of him, you filthy-" Superman shouted as he desperately tried to free himself.
"Yield to us, J'onn J'onzz," The Imperium ordered.
"Never!"
"Why do you resist? Embrace this truth. After all these years, you have finally lost."
"Have I?"
"You're hiding something," The Imperium realized as it dug deeper under J'onn's skin. "A secret deep in the recesses of your mind. Is this another of your Martian tricks?"
"Do I sense fear?" J'onn retorted.
"What are you hiding?"
Suddenly, J'onn transformed back into his superhero form and yelled, "Now!"
There was a loud explosion. Kin's ears rang and everyone turned their heads. To their disbelief, they saw Batman, alive and in the flesh by the ion crystal. He had ripped open the barrier around it. Kin's eyes widened as she saw Batman. It couldn't be him. The invaders killed him.
"Batman?" Flash questioned.
"It can't be," Diana shook her head.
"I mentally shielded him so he couldn't be detected," J'onn explained.
Batman placed a device onto the crystal, smirking triumphantly. It changed the crystal from deep red to light blue. The invader who was disguised as Senator Carter gasped, "What have you done?"
"Reserved the ion charge," Batman answered as he swung away from their lasers.
"The crystal, destroy it!" The Imperium ordered, causing the invaders to shoot at it. Their rays were blocked by a force field.
"It's shielded!" The impostor of Senator Carter cried in frustration.
Due to Batman's device and the reversed charge, sunlight began to pour into the sky and the dark clouds washed away. The invaders ran for shelter, desperately trying to avoid the sun's harmful rays, but the ones who didn't make it began to burn and melt. J'onn ripped himself out of the Imperium and dragged it into the light, "You live underground and shun the light. Why? Does it burn your pale, putrid skin?"
The Imperium began to scream as its skin bubbled and burned. Kin's stomach churned slightly at the sight of it while Flash cringed, "Ooh, that's one nasty sunburn."
Batman swung down to where the others were trapped and began to cut Diana out of the paste with a laser. He explained what he discovered, "Ultraviolet rays. Coming from the depths of space, the invaders have no resistance to our sun's radiation."
Diana concluded, "So you did their weakness after all."
Superman noticed what Batman was doing and used his heat vision to cut himself out of the paste. He pulled up the ground of the cliff above them to give them more cover. Kin used her mind to deflect the lasers that did make it past Superman's shield. Superman turned around and started to cut Hawkgirl out. Hawkgirl broke Green Lantern free while Diana helped Flash and Kin get out.
They began to fight the invaders, pulling them into the sunlight to burn them. Green Lantern, Superman, and Diana created holes in the factory's ceiling to allow more sun in. Kin was fighting the invaders with Flash. She flew high above them and deflected the lasers they shot at her before swooping down and punching them with all her might. She was in the middle of kicking the gun out of one of the aliens' hands when a lot of them piled on top of her. "Kin!" She heard Flash yell from under the pile. For aliens that looked like they didn't weigh much, they were crushing her. She found it harder to breathe as more and more climbed on top of the pile. Concentrating hard, she gathered up all her strength. A coil inside of her snapped and a guttural yell left her before she flung them all off her, splattering them all over the factory.
She looked at Flash and reassured, "I'm okay." He smiled at her and continued to fight the invaders.
Kin looked up to see that the Imperium's ship was getting away. She stuck her hands out, grabbing ahold of it with her powers, but the ship was too large. She landed on the ground and tried to plant to her feet. Her feet dug into the ground, forming a small pit, as the ship kept pulling her along. Diana swung her lasso, latched it onto the edge of the ship, and began to help Kin pull it back down. The ship shot at them, causing them to lose their grip.
Hawkgirl saw that they had lost their momentum and flew up to help them. She hit the ship with her mace while Diana and Kin regained their composure. The two flew up and Kin grabbed it with her telekinesis while Diana grabbed her lasso. Hawkgirl hit the ship one last time, Diana swung it around in, and Kin pushed it down into the invader's factory. The place started to fall apart. Debris fell above them, the ground shook, and gas and liquid poured out of the walls. It was going to explode sooner or later.
Hawkgirl warned the others, "The whole place is going to blow!" Green Lantern went over to where Superman and Flash had freed the people who had been captured by the invaders. He created a bubble around them and got them out of the place while Diana grabbed Batman and flew him out.
Kin grabbed Flash's hands and said, "Hold on tight." Flash smiled and held Kin's hand as she carried him to safety. The factory exploded into oblivion and the remaining invaders inside were instantly killed.
The heroes landed on top of a nearby building and watched in triumph as the invaders' ship retreated into the depths of space. The dark clouds were pushed away and the blue sky returned, bringing a certain warmth back into the world. People looked out of their windows and stopped in the street. They cheered and celebrated the invader's retreat. Kin felt a sense of pride wash over her as she watched the people she fought so hard far be happy again. The light had won over the dark.
•••••••••••••
The heroes spent the next couple of days destroying the rest of the factories that remained and forcing the rest of the invaders out of the Earth. Kin liked working with a team. She felt comfort knowing she wasn't the only one who held a duty to protect Earth. She also liked knowing that someone always had her back, even when things got messy. However, one all the invaders were gone, the heroes and the rest of the world, all had the same question. What were they going to do if the invaders ever came back? Will they just go their separate ways and band together when the Earth is in danger again?
Not long after these questions started popping up, Batman and Superman called everyone together. They had all met on a satellite station that was orbiting Earth called the Watchtower and, apparently, belonged to Batman.
Kin looked out the window at the millions of stars. She looked in the direction of where her home planet was located and frowned. She had just fought in a war here on Earth but a war was raging on her own planet at that very moment. A war that started because of her and her mistake. Part of her wished she could go back and help. But she couldn't. She had been banished a long time ago.
"And it also has a fully stocked kitchen," Flash spoke up as he and Diana entered the room. Kin flew over to where everyone else was and saw that Flash and Diana had some type of drink in their hands. The Speedster offered Kin, "Iced mocha?"
"No, thank you," Kin shook her head.
Diana sipped on the drink before her eyes lit up in delight, "Mmm, they don't have these on Themyscira."
"Stick around, princess," Flash said. "I'll show you the ropes."
"Perhaps I will," Diana blushed.
"An impressive installation," Green Lantern complimented as he and Hawkgirl got done inspecting the place. "Most impressive. But what's it got to do with us?"
They looked to Superman. He had been the one to call them all here. While the Watchtower was very nice, none of them understood why they were there. It was nice for all of them to be together when they weren't out saving the world from impending doom, but it was strange. None of them had ever hung out before.
"I once thought I could protect the world by myself, but I was wrong," Superman began. "Working together, we saved the planet. And I believe that if we stayed together as a team we would be a force that could truly work for the ideals of peace and justice."
"What, like a bunch of super friends?" Flash joked, earning a slight chuckle out of Kin.
"More like a Justice League."
"Do you have any idea how corny that sounds?" Flash asked before he shrugged. "But maybe the big guy's got a point. With all of us behind it, it just might work. Count me in."
"I'm in," Kin agreed.
"Me too," Green Lantern said.
"And me," Hawkgirl added.
The four put their hands on top of each other and looked back at Batman and Diana. Diana looked down in guilt before she spoke, "My mother may not approve, but I find man's world to be intriguing. I'll gladly join."
"What about you, Batman?" Superman asked.
"I'm not really a people person but when you need help, and you will... call me," Batman said before he took off.
"Understood," Superman nodded. "Then we all agree."
"Wait," Kin interrupted as she looked around. "Where's J'onn? He should be here."
