Sat on the couch in his small flat, Remus nervously fiddled with his phone case. Forcing himself to not watch the clock’s ticking hands, he jumped slightly when the doorbell rang.
Leaping to his feet, his phone fell forgotten to the floor while Remus skidded to his door, his socked feet sliding on the floorboards. Lifting shaking hands, he cursed as his fingers clumsily missed the doorchain.
A moment later, he flung the door open and drank in the sight of his boyfriend for the first time since that morning when Remus had watched him come fourth place in a championship. The TV screen had made Sirius look so small, and all Remus had wanted to do for the last few hours was hold Sirius tight.
Sirius lifted his grey eyes to Remus, and Remus’s eyes glistened slightly. Usually full of life, Sirius looked absolutely broken. Remus’s fingers twitched as he took in the sight of a haggard Sirius. He wanted to touch Sirius so badly.
“Rem…” whispered Sirius, his eyes pale and withdrawn.
“Oh, baby,” Remus said, equally softly.
Unable to withstand the distance a second longer, Remus took a step forward and drew Sirius into his arms. Sirius let out a shuddering breath and let his weight collapse onto Remus, who tightened his arms around Sirius’s shaking body as he walked the two of them back into the flat.
Raising an arm to shut the door behind them, Sirius made a small noise and clung to Remus even tighter.
“It’s okay,” soothed Remus, bringing his arm back around Sirius, “I’m right here,” he said, pressing a kiss onto Sirius’s temple. “I’m not going anywhere,” he whispered.
