Work Text:
Wolf sat in front of the bathroom mirror, looking into her own eyes. Her mom was brushing her curls, trying to get out all the knots that had formed throughout the years.
As a survivor, she hadn't been too focused on her hair and keeping it healthy, instead choosing to hide it away inside her cloak.
But now that she lived with the Oak's, they were adament on making sure that every single part of her was healthy. And that involved her hair.
At first, Lio had suggested to do Wolf's hair, as he had the same hairtype as her and would have some more experience, but Song had insisted on being the one to do Wolf's hair. She wanted to learn how to handle other hairtypes than her own, and she wasn't going to reject her daughter only because she wasn't used to curly hair.
"You know, you don't have to do it, if you don't want to," Wolf offered. "I know it's gonna take a lot of time."
Song frowned. "Don't worry about it, sweetheart. I don't care how long it takes. I do it because I like doing things for you," Song reassured immediately.
As her mother, she was going to learn how to take care of her, from her head to her toes.
"Okay," Wolf replied, going quiet.
Wolf sat still on the stool as Song sprayed water in her hair before brushing. Song was surprised at the fact that Wolf wasn't making a sound, as she had been pulling on her knots for well over ten minutes by now, which could not feel good.
Song kept wetting, brushing and untangling Wolf's hair, until finally, it looked somewhat good. Song was no expert, that was for sure, but she was proud of herself nevertheless.
Wolf's hair looked several times better than what it had started as, and that was progress, no matter how much.
"What do you think, sweetie?" Song asked, looking at Wolf through the mirror.
Wolf shrugged. "I don't know."
"Well, I think that you look pretty," Song offered.
Wolf looked shocked. "You do?" It wasn't often that Wolf was called pretty. If anything, she didn't think that she was anything special. She looked pretty average, maybe even less so.
"Of course I do! Why wouldn't I?" Song asked, receiving another shrug. "Honey, you're so pretty! Never doubt that."
Song noticed the small smile that Wolf gave at the compliment. From then on, Song promised herself to remind Wolf of how beautiful she was as often as possible.
Neither of them said anything more, and Song went back to brushing Wolf's hair.
As time went on, Song hoped to be able to learn how to braid Wolf's hair, and turn it into cute hairstyles.
Wolf was excited for that as well, as it would be a bonding experience with her mom. And she would never say no to that.
Wolf's scalp was sore, that was for sure, but she had a large smile on her face as she was able to run a hand through her hair without immediately getting it stuck in a bunch of knots. She hugged Song tightly.
"Thank you, mom."
Song kissed Wolf's forehead with a smile before offering some ice cream for a job well done.
Wolf licked her lips. Yum, icecream!
