Chapter Text
Error never really paid attention to the people around him, not even the ones whose lives he took. But there was one person that caught his eye.
Someone who he once thought of as a nuisance and someone to get rid of. That someone was Ink, the only one who ever dared to stand up to him.
He was strong. Their powers seemingly matched. For every attack Error sent, Ink dodged with grace. For every injury he caused, he got one in return.
It didn't take long for Error to grow an interest in Ink. Who he was, his motives, and whatever other information Error could get his hands on.
But slowly that bit of interest morphed into absolute enthrallment. This even led him to make a truce with Ink, which Error used to not even entertain the idea of.
When Error had suggested it during a fight, Ink had looked at him like he was crazy, but after he had confirmed he was serious, Ink became ecstatic, his eyes literally turning into stars. He almost tackled Error out of excitement, but stopped when he remembered Error's fear of touch.
“Really?” Ink shouted.
“Yeah, yeah. Just don't puke.”
As if timed, Ink turned away and threw up black ink.
Error let out a sigh. "Great. You broke the only condition.”
Error turned around — “You know what, nevermind.” — and started to walk away.
“No, wait!”
Ink chased after Error. He came surprisingly far in just these few seconds.
They decided to work out the terms and conditions of the truce.
“Okay! I've been waiting for this moment for like forever! Okay, so uhh, how about this. When an AU gets created, you get to destroy one? Sounds fair, right?”
“Wow. You've planned this for a while, huh?” Error added sarcastically.
“I knew this day would come! I just knew it!" Ink couldn't stand still and kept jumping up and down.
Error slowly looked him over. "Don't make me regret this."
"I won't! I won't, I won't!"
From that moment on Ink would come to the Anti-void once a week to tell Error how many AUs were created, but sometimes he also came just to bother him. Error only pretended to be annoyed about it so Ink wouldn't get suspicious.
Now all he had to do was get closer to Ink, and then they would live happily ever after, and then-
“I'm sorry, Error, I'm already in a relationship.”
What? Those few words cut through Error's thoughts like a hot knife through butter.
“But I don't blame you for not knowing. We were enemies for years, so of course you wouldn't know! So…”
Ink continued, but Error mainly tuned it out, only focused on the rage bubbling inside him.
It was so dangerously close to spilling over, reaching the air on top and bouncing off the edges. Coming too near would get you burned; spilling it over would cause you great agony.
But he kept control. He had to.
This feeling wasn't directed at Ink, no, but at whoever dared to take his hand. It didn't matter for how long they were enemies, it was him who should be allowed to get that close to him.
"We can still be friends! If you don't mind that is..." Ink's frantic speech seemed to end.
At least Error could escape the situation. "Yeah, sure, friends." His voice almost gave in.
Ink didn't respond. Instead he nervously fidgeted with his fingers. Error's rage subsided for the time being, embarrassment growing more and more apparent.
“Uhhh, I think I'll leave for today. See you later.” Ink said before melting into ink.
Error was left with his thoughts. He clenched his fist. There was nothing in the world that person could've done to deserve Ink. They were probably just another worthless anomaly. They shouldn't exist. If they didn't, Error would be able to be with Ink.
He needed to find out who it was. If he could just get them out of the way, Error could have Ink all to himself. No one could appreciate him as much as Error did. He saw from up-close how amazing Ink was.
Ink's 'partner' was in for a treat.
