Work Text:
Ladybug rolled her eyes as the two of them walked across a bridge, crossing the Seine on patrol. Ever since they’d de-akumatized Frightningale again and turned her back into the singer Clara Nightingale, Cat Noir had been singing every word he said…and as usual, he’d been talking a lot.
“Cat, will you pipe down? We defeated Frightningale an hour ago, and I know you’re not still affected by her microphone whip!” Ladybug protested frustratedly.
“Aw, why? Don’t you find my voice meow-lodic?” Cat Noir winked at her, still singing. “I guess by your reaction, you could even call my singing rhapsodic!”
“MRGGH!” She grunted aggressively, at which her partner smiled. She looked like she was near the tipping point, but Cat Noir knew she could last juuuuusssttt a little longer. He’d driven her to that point before, and it hadn’t been pretty, but it had made him an expert at reading her.
“Here, let me sing just for you, M’Lady; it’s something that I’ve been feeling a lot lately! It won’t take very long, and then my rhyming won’t be so strong!”
Ladybug stopped short in the middle of the bridge and turned sharply to him, sighing as she saw him standing there with an expectant look on his face. “Fine. One last song; what is it?”
He cleared his throat and dramatically put his hand up to it in preparation.
“If you gave me a chance, I would take it.” He started, arching one of his eyebrows and smirking.
“Heh, this is what I stopped for.” Ladybug chuckled wryly, turning around and walking again. This time, however, she didn’t seem as annoyed and she kept glancing over at Cat Noir as he continued. After all, a boy making a love song for her is a boy making a love song for her; no matter how frustrating he could be.
Cat Noir half-jogged to keep up with her. “It’s a shot in the dark.” He sang, covering her eyes briefly to make it dark for her, at which she rolled her eyes and lightly batted his hand away, while trying to hide her amusement for his antics. “-But I’ll make it!”
Putting on a burst of speed, he moved in front of her and walked backwards. “Know with all of your heart, you can’t shame me!”
“Cat.” She protested, smiling.
Stopping, Cat Noir looked deeply into her eyes, making Ladybug halt in surprise.
It took a few moments of silence and a long, meaningful look; but when he sang next, he was softer and sounded so very sincere. “When I am with you, there’s no place I’d rather be.”
Those words took Ladybug back a little, and despite herself, she could feel her breath get faster as she held Cat Noir’s gaze. “Cat…” She whispered; her voice barely able to get his name out from the shaking it was doing.
With a blink and a quick expression change, Cat Noir suddenly started singing loudly again and began to dance in place jokingly. “No, no, no, no, no! No place I’d rather be!”
Ladybug smiled sternly at him. “You idiot, get over here!” She chuckled, shaking her head.
Dragging him towards her by his suit collar, she kissed him; making all her movements one fluid motion and taking Cat Noir, who jolted back because he wasn’t expecting it, by surprise. Soon though, he smiled and leaned into the kiss, wrapping his arms around her waist.
After several seconds, they broke apart, and Ladybug draped her arms on his shoulders. “I swear now, if you start singing again…” She said, smirking.
Cat Noir opened his mouth and acted like he was trying to sing something, but made no sound. “Hmm, nope! You cured me. I guess now you’re going to have to kiss me every time I get affected by Frightningale.” He grinned with a knowing look.
“Hah, not a chance, Kitty.” Ladybug said lightly.
“…IF you gave me a chance!” He sang in jest.
“STOP!” She laughed, pushing him away.
How I’m ever gonna get through the rest of patrol, I don’t know. Ladybug thought to herself with affection. But afterwards, though she wouldn’t admit it out loud, whenever she thought of his song he made for her, she got butterflies and had to smile.
