A lot of things have taken a toll on the scientist recently. Viper had been stressing over this current mission. Since their new recruit of Clove and Iso, the protocol had been on the hunt for the Scions of Hourglass and the information they held. Much to her dismay, the whole Hourglass situation was quite overwhelming.
After taking it from the Scions of Hourglass, thanks to Clove, Iso and Omen, many of the agents were tasked to investigate. It seemed simple yet…the things that they investigated down, there were odd and unexplainable. Skye was quite upset with her findings of an odd flora and Fade was even more dismayed that there were no findings of her lost friend. So little time to investigate and if that wasn't bad enough, it quickly went downhill on them. Gekko had reported something… someone in the cells when he had been exploring. Their breathing was faint but yet cold as they took each breath. The man quickly left the cell, unsure what he would find. The scientist did not blame him for his choice to do so. However, Viper had wished they had prepared for the worst.
Two nights ago, Sova reported to Brimstone that the containment cell had been destroyed and the thing inside had left. He was distressed and alarms were going off loudly in the background. His words and the alarm played in her head over and over again. Something had happened. Everything was happening. Everything wrong was happening. Everything was out of her control, slipping away from her grasps and her knowledge was to no use. Could she have prevented such a fiasco from happening? What had escaped? Was there someone in that cell? All these questions raced through her mind and it made her head throb. All those awards, all those prizes, and for what? Whatever. She didn't want to think about any of this right now.
Pushing the reports to the side, she laid her head on her hands, gripping some parts of her hair out of frustration. Some hero she was. Viper wished something would go well once. Their wins eventually ended up in failures. All their paths of success seemed to end here.
What seemed to never end was the complaints of Yoru and his hair. The wind pushed against his hair, leading the rift walker to grumble and pull out his comb to smooth out the strands that gently fell out of place. He would mumble and the man with a vest sitting beside him chuckled. It lead Yoru to give a glare and swiftly continue combing.
It was a given there would be such powerful winds in the air, so Yoru should've used more hair gel. Or maybe his hair wasn't used to the wind as Jett’s hair was. Regardless, it was funny watching him stress over the little hairs that swooped down. She laughed and Chamber did too, resulting in a stare from Yoru, though he quickly flashed a small grin in response. However, a familiar voice began to speak, putting the agents on guard as it spoke.
“Again. The target is highly capable and extremely dangerous.” said the voice, Jett recognized it to be Sage. The other agents seemed to prepare, reassuring themselves they had the necessary resources to succeed. Sage’s voice continued to speak.
“What they are able to do..” her voice trailed off, hinting at a spark of fear but quickly continued. “ It’s like they're some sort of monster. Please be ready for anything.” And as quickly as her voice appeared, it swiftly disconnected. Jett laughed and turned to the other agents.
“Sounds fun,” she said. “So I'll take the front.”
Yoru laughed and replied. “ Of course. I'll be right behind you.” He said, loading up a gun and nearing the opening of the aircraft. Chamber and Omen who sat in the back prepared their weapons too.
Jett rolled her eyes and laughed. “As if you could keep up.”
Jett really wished he had been right behind her. She had been separated by a silvery hard wall and still could not locate their target. It was frustrating being out of breath, but nevertheless part of the job. Looking around with her gun in the alleyway, she quickly heard someone walking. Faint clicks of their shoe and suddenly, she took sight of their target.
A tall figure with bright yellow glowing eyes walked away. Jett wouldn't let her get away so quickly. Rushing after her, the duelist didn't hear the activation of… a creation of some sort. And as quickly as she realized. A bright sliverly flash came over her, pushing her back into a corner, and she heard someone there. And then she saw nothing.
Nothing changed into something. Her gun was in front of her and a tall silver mixed with purple figure appeared. Talking to her… but she wasn't able to make out what she was saying. Jett’s body ached and her head pounded but her priority was to take down this… monster.
Suddenly the enemy's voice came into focus. “ So spirited you are. Yet so hopelessly predictable.” She said. The figure came closer grabbed the duelist's knives and inspected it, twirling it as she walked away. Though she came to a stop, looking towards Jett’s left side. “Well. Come on out then.”
Suddenly the riftwalker appeared, sliding and swiftly throwing a spare gun to Jett who immediately aimed at the enemy. She saw a bright glare from Chamber’s marshal, who aimed at the tall figure. They had her cornered. Nowhere to run. She raised her hands in surrender. Yet… something felt off.
Suddenly, thorns came out from the ground, grabbing onto the agent's weapons with force. The figure laughed and pulled out a gun of her own, walking towards Jett and Yoru. However, someone else did too.
Omen appeared right behind her, cocking the gun towards her, but quickly pulled it away.
“Let's talk. No guns. Just us.” He said, walking in front of her, and putting his gun away. He signaled the other agents to step away from their guns, which they did.
“We’d like you to come with us. To our headquarters.” The wraith spoke, however, she seemed unconvinced.
“And why would I do that?” She said, moving ever so slightly away from the wraith. The figure seemed like she wanted to take leave, however Omen seemed to see this coming.
“Hourglass would be after you. Many other people would be too. Our protocol can keep you safe in the meantime and provide information on their organization. Brimstone and Sabine can-”
The figure turned to him swiftly and walked towards the wraith. They stood face to face in silence until she spoke.
“Say that name again.” Everything seemed to slow down, only the small sounds of their breathing were heard. None of the other agents dared to move.
The wraith did nothing. It seemed something had clicked in his head about her statement. His rags moved in the wind gently making a fluttery sound. It left everyone in silence and fear of what he was going to do at that exact second. Finally, he spoke.
“Sabine. Maybe she’d be happier to see a familiar face.” He signaled towards where the aircraft was stationed and walked over there. She followed in pursuit. The other agents were left in shock and Jett followed the two ahead, grumbling. “So we could have avoided all that if we had said Viper’s name. Cool.”
The sudden knock on her door startled the groggly scientist. It was a loud hard knocks, seeming to need to get her attention. The scientist had fallen asleep on her desk, hair all over the place. The knocks continued. Ugh. Do they not know basic manners and respect? She walked towards her nearby mirror and fixed her hair, flatting the strands that had fallen out of place. Then she heard a familiar voice.
“Sabine. Please open the door, it's urgent. ” said a ghastly voice. Omen? Odd. She brushed some dust off her shoulders and approached the door. Gently, she opened the door meeting the blue slits of the ghastly voice. His rags moved gently and his calm breath was heard in the silence. Viper took it upon herself to break it.
“Yes, Omen? Was there something you needed from me?” She said, inquiring why the wraith had come so urgently. He nodded and began to speak.
“Someone would like to say hi. Seems like you might need her company.” He said, as he moved towards the side leading a figure to appear right behind him.
Vyse had appeared and put her hand on her hips and another on Omen’s shoulder, patting him on the back.
“Thank you, Omen. Please. Travel safe.” She said. He nodded and walked away, footsteps disappearing. And just like that he was no longer there. Viper peeked her head out of the door, looking for the wraith to no avail. Vyse chuckled and spoke.
“He's long gone. Omens thinking over some things is what he told me. Hope he figures out what he wants.” She said leaning against the doorway. Sabine stared at her, baffled at the sight of Vyse. The tall figure noticed and laughed.
“Really Sabine? I knew you might be shocked but not this shocked!” She continued to laugh while Sabine stared. Suddenly, the scientist pulled the robotic figure into her arms. This sudden action took aback the tall figure, yet she did not pull back. Slowly, she reciprocated the hug, and ever so gently ran her fingers against the scientist’s hair. Without saying any words, the robotic figure pushed the door closed and sat on the scientist’s bed. She motioned to Sabine to sit alongside her, patting a spot next to her. Sabine did just that, sitting still in silence. No words were needed to be said, Vyse knew she was more than happy to have a familiar face by her side. The scientist took the metal hands and intertwined them with hers, leaning on the other’s shoulders. It was cold but yet it had a warm feeling that she had long forgotten. It was a feeling she remembered so long ago, a feeling she never had let go of.
Somehow, it always seemed their paths would intertwine.
