Work Text:

Crunchy was known for many things. Of course one of them being a responsible sheriff, but also the gun-slinging bounty hunter, the retired piano player of the saloon, and even a pretty average baker.

But there was one thing that Crunchy wasn't known for.

And that was having a good sleep schedule.

Maybe it was just a habit or something that has always been programmed in their little brain but Crunchy can't help but stay up until dawn going around the town and finishing up several tasks like checking papers, locking up the prison house, maybe even occasionally cleaning animal trackings…

And then doing it all again right after.

Crunchy doesn't even know why she does this, it was just always that way since they were appointed sheriff around a year ago.

Then there was Mr.Galaxy, Crunchy's assistant. Mr.Galaxy is a strange creature, being made up of black goo with a space outline. They were known for being very terrifying, towering over almost everyone with a cold stare in its eyes and the eerie silence that always surrounded him.

Lately, Mr.Galaxy had noticed how little time Crunchy spent in their own house, being out almost all the time and when they did enter their home it was either to fill out papers or to nap, the latter being a rarer occurrence.

Now Mr.Galaxy wasn't exactly an expert in robloxian health but from what they did know was that lack of sleep equaled bad. So, he decided to come up with a simple plan to convince them to go to bed.

Shouldn't be that hard, right?

Crunchy had finished triple checking all the papers they collected, gathered all of them up and lightly tapped the pile on the table to even it out.

Crunchy sighed as they glanced outside his window. Last time they looked, the sky was a dark blue with shining stars scattering all over. Now the sky took on a more warmer orange tone on the bottom and is transitioning to a lighter blue, with the sun barely peeking over the horizons.

Jeez, it's almost morning already?

Crunchy turned towards their clock on the other side of the room.

4:52. I might as well get ready to go out now.

As Crunchy set the paper pile back down on the desk and got up, they flinched, noticing Mr.Galaxy out of the corner of their eye.

“Hey there Gal.” Crunchy greeted it before turning towards him.

Mr.Galaxy just stared at them. It unnerved Crunchy, but they decided to ignore that.

“So…What are you doing up this early in the mornin’?” Crunchy asks, leaning on their desk.

Mr.Galaxy pulled a piece of paper out of their bag and started to write something down before giving it to Crunchy to read.

“Can ask the same to you.”

Crunchy frowned a bit.

“Very funny. I was workin’, you know this.” They set the piece of paper on her desk as they yawned.

“I need to get ready for the day anyways.” But before Crunchy could go to grab their sheriff things, Mr.Galaxy placed a hand on their shoulder, stopping them in their tracks.

Crunchy looked up at Mr.Galaxy, an eyebrow raised in curiosity. “What?”

Mr.Galaxy quickly scribbled something down on another piece of paper and handed it to Crunchy.

“Sleep.”

Mr.Galaxy then pointed to Crunchy before pointing towards their bed in the corner. Crunchy's eyebrows furrowed.

“Come on Gal, you know I have work to do. There ain't no time for sleepin’!” Crunchy went past Mr.Galaxy, grabbed their things and headed towards the door.

But Mr.Galaxy was quicker on its feet than Crunchy, as he made it to the door before Crunchy did and blocked them from exiting.

“Gal I'm fine, I can last a few more hours.” Crunchy said, attempting to stifle a yawn but failing. “I just need to watch over the prison today, it's nothin’ much!”

Mr.Galaxy shook its head before crossing their arms. He was not buying that. Crunchy on the other hand frowned, placing their hands on their hips and tapping his foot impatiently.

“Gal, you know we can't do this forever. Just let me out and I'll…uhm..” Crunchy trailed off, trying to think of a deal. They barely even noticed Mr.Galaxy writing something down before the paper was hovering over their face.

“I can watch over the jail for you.”

Crunchy just barely registered the words before Mr.Galaxy flipped the paper over and started writing again. Maybe the drowsiness was getting to them.

“Then maybe you can get some sleep.”

Crunchy was skeptical. “Are you sure? I mean, I'm sure I can still do it just fine.”

Crunchy really had no real reason to doubt Mr.Galaxy, since they scare the whole town including the prisoners but they wanted a reason to get out of this without sleeping.

But alas, Mr.Galaxy nodded and lightly pushed Crunchy further from the door and pointed towards their bed again.

Finally, Crunchy sighed in defeat and took off their sheriff accessories as they walked to his bed. It was clear that Mr.Galaxy wouldn't budge anytime soon so might as well.

Mr.Galaxy's expression lightened up in victory. It was actually not that hard. They did see Crunchy turn back at him to toss something into its hands. When Mr.Galaxy looked down, it was a keychain with, well, keys. Many of them.

“You're gonna need those, big guy.” Crunchy smiled.

Mr.Galaxy did a saluting motion towards them before leaving the house with a soft click of the door closing.

As Mr.Galaxy left, Crunchy laid down on their bed and glanced over at the clock again.

5:02. Only 10 minutes passed.

Huh. It felt slightly longer than that. Crunchy waved it off though and got up to cover the window with an animal hide, blocking off most light. They then flopped back onto the bed.

Only a few minutes passed by before they eventually succumbed to their slumber.
