Chapter 1: The Start of Something New

Chapter Text

At the Hashira headquarters, a rare quiet day had arrived. Rengoku Kyojuro, the Flame Hashira, was enjoying a peaceful moment. He had prepared a simple meal and was eating it with his usual bright smile. His warmth filled the room, but across the kitchen, Giyuu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, was having a hard time.

Giyuu, known for his calm and reserved nature, was struggling with a pot of soup. No matter what he did, the taste wasn’t right. He added more salt, tasted it again, and sighed in frustration. Cooking was not his strong suit, and today was no exception.

Rengoku, always eager to help, noticed Giyuu’s trouble. With his cheerful attitude, he walked over to the kitchen. “Good morning, Tomioka! You look like you’re having a tough time. Can I help?”

Giyuu looked up, his frustration easing a little at the sight of Rengoku’s bright smile. “Morning, Rengoku. I’m trying to make this soup taste better, but I just can’t get it right.”

Rengoku’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Let me give it a try! I’ve done a lot of cooking, so maybe I can help.”

Without waiting for Giyuu’s answer, Rengoku grabbed a ladle and started adding spices with his usual energy. Giyuu watched with a mix of curiosity and concern as Rengoku stirred the soup with flair. But when Rengoku accidentally knocked over a container of salt, it spilled into the soup like a small storm. Giyuu’s eyes widened. “That’s, that's far too much salt, Rengoku.”

Rengoku just laughed, his smile still bright. “Don’t worry! Sometimes mistakes can lead to something good.”

As they waited for the soup to cook, the atmosphere in the kitchen warmed up. Rengoku’s lively stories and Giyuu’s soft laughter filled the room. Giyuu felt more relaxed as he listened to Rengoku. He found himself smiling and laughing more than usual, enjoying the moment.

When the soup was ready, Giyuu took a cautious sip. To his surprise, it was actually good. The flavor was different but comforting, and he appreciated Rengoku’s effort even more.

Giyuu looked at Rengoku, who was watching him with hopeful eyes. “This actually tastes really good. You did a great job.”

Rengoku’s face lit up with happiness. “I’m glad you like it! Even if things don’t go as planned, there’s always something good to find.”

As they ate the soup together, Giyuu felt a new warmth between them. It was more than just the warmth of the meal. They were growing closer, and Giyuu felt a special connection with Rengoku. Rengoku’s cheerful and caring nature seemed to balance Giyuu’s quieter side perfectly.

Feeling more connected, Giyuu looked into Rengoku’s eyes and smiled softly. “Next time, let’s make dessert together. I’d love to see what you come up with.”

Rengoku’s eyes softened with affection. “I’d love that. I promise I’ll be more careful with the salt next time.”

As the day came to a close, they shared more laughs and enjoyed each other’s company. The bond between them grew stronger. Their simple moments together made their connection even more special. Giyuu and Rengoku knew their relationship was something truly meaningful, and they looked forward to more shared moments and adventures.
