Summary
Fang Duobing smiles, “Lao Di will join us in four days’ time. He’ll help us finish packing your things and we can all go south together before the cold.”
“He’ll be coming to help you kidnap me, you mean,” Li Lianhua grouses, resigned. “You’re both traitors.”
Fang Duobing rolls his eyes. “Yes, forgive us for this horrible affront of wanting to ensure you live safely through the winter with enough coal and food to be comfortable.”
“I’m neither a child, nor an invalid, you know.”
“Not an— Li Lianhua! You were unconscious and lethargic for six weeks, less than three months ago! What if you got snowed in all the way up here while the roads were impassable? What if you get sick, suddenly? What if—” he cuts himself off abruptly and exhales hard through his nose. “Enough, I’m not having this conversation again.”Despite all odds, Li Lianhua has survived his ordeal with the Bicha poison. But surviving is one thing; truly living is something else entirely, and a lot more work. He'll do it, though. (Fang Duobing and Di Feisheng aren't giving him a choice.)
A story of guilt, healing, forgiveness, desire, regret, and the mortifying ordeal of being seen.
