“Are we sure about this?” Uzi asked “It’s not like I don’t trust her, but-” She was cut off by N “I trust her more than anything, especially with our little girl, they could really use some bonding time together :)”
“Fine. I‘ll trust your judgement” Uzi quietly gave in
“Thanks Uzi” N said softly, confident in his plan
“I guess we gotta tell her what needs doing before we leave” Uzi was creating a list of everything to tell V before leaving
“Sounds good!” N held a thumbs up, smile wide on his face
“You Lovable dork” Uzi muttered shuffling past him, smile on her face
Uzi and N stepped out into the living room, Uzi craddeling Gail close to her core. Their living room was modest but still very cozy. They had a couch facing a TV that could be used for watching Anime and occasionally family movies for the little one. Photos were hung on the wall of the them, proudly showing off the unusual family they had created. It was theirs and Uzi would be damned if she wouldn’t protect their little family with all her heart.
In the living room V was sitting up right on the couch, more collected than usual. N had somehow roped her into doing this for them, to be honest she doesn’t fully know why she gave in to him, But N was a hard drone to say No to. While she was nervous at the idea of spending time with her niece, she wasn’t about to break her promise to N. She had a lot to make up for.
N met V’s eyes and they both walked over to where she was sitting.
N began “Ok V. We’ll be gone for about 3 hours. Make sure to feed her in an hour as she’ll be hungry. Supplies are down the hall in the closet. Snacks are in the kitchen, but please don’t overload her circuits with too much lithium(sugar). If she shows any signs of something wrong, call us immediately. What else, what else”
“Calm down N” V said reassuringly “I think I’ll have it all handled, can’t let you worry to much on your night out” V said with a wink, smirking
“Alright, thanks again V” N said finally slowing down
“You two get out there and enjoy your night, We’ll be fine”
“All right, you coming Uzi?” N asked
“Go on, I need to speak with V first” Uzi said plainly
“Ok” N exited the room
Uzi turned to face V “Promise me you’ll keep her safe” Uzi asked while handing over her kiddo.
“I promise, Purple toaster” V responded while trying to comfortably hold the Pill baby.
“Thank you” Uzi said with a tinge of Sarcasm.
N and Uzi finally made their way to their front door ready to leave. “Have fun kiddo” N said loudly walking out into the bunker.
“Bye” Uzi said before following N.
V was finally alone, or she felt like it until she looked downwards, seeing the little Pill staring back at her with big lavender eyes.
“Hello?” V said awkwardly, not knowing what to say to the baby. “What’s your name?” She already knew her name but asked anyway.
“Gail” The little bot laughed out
V trying to make conversation asked “Can you say my name? V. Veeee”
“Vee” Gail said looking proud of herself
“Nice one” well this is kinda awkward, V thought to herself “What am I going to do with this baby for 3 hours?”
“Snak, snak” Gail was already trying to take advantage of her new babysitter.
“You heard what your parents said, I can’t be feeding you snacks all day” V said trying to prove to herself she could be responsible when needed
“>:(“ was the only response V got.
20 minutes went by, V was texting Lizzy while Gail stared at V with curiosity.
“Hungy” The pill shouted at V, they could make quite loud sounds for their little size.
“HUH” V had been surprised by Gail, being caught off guard. ”Oh yeah, they need feeding. Helpless little things” She muttered while walked down the hall over to the closet looking for a container of baby oil.
The closet was a complete disorganized mess, probably Uzi’s fault. V spent a minute looking for the oil before realizing she had to look down, not up. The amount of supplies they had for such a little pill baby certainly surprised her. They had a stockpile of oil, a stroller, an assortment of clothes to dress the baby up, manuals, anti-viruses, snow coats and much, much more. They had almost anything for any occasion.
V, slightly embarrassed, made her way back from her trip to the closet where she had expected to find Gail sat upon the couch. But once she arrived she realized Gail was nowhere to be found. Panic set into her core. N was going to murder her, She shouldn’t have left a baby on their own! What was she thinking?
“Since when are pill baby’s able to walk away?” She thought to herself. She began to search the living room, tearing it apart piece by piece to find the trouble maker.
Pill babies can’t normally go that far, could they? V questioned herself, Never having been in a problem like this before.
Deciding that looking for Gail was not going to work, she upped the sensitivity of her hearing trying to locate any clues to their whereabouts. She could hear rummaging emanating from the doorway to the kitchen.
This led her into the kitchen where she found a cabinet left half ajar. Taking a peek inside she saw Gail in all their mischievous glory, they had managed to somehow get into the cabinet and started eating all the batteries she could roll to.

V quickly scooped her up “WHY YOU LITTLE TROUBLEMAKER, DID YOU KNOW HOW WORRIED I WAS”. She realized it must have been a little too harsh as Gail began to cry, displaying little water droplets on their visor. V realizing her mistake tried to sush the baby “No I didn’t mean it like that! I’m sorry kiddo” she hushed, trying to get them calmed down as soon as possible.
But that wasn’t enough, the crying still continued. V being way out of her depths decided to try the only thing she thought could work. She attempted to rock the child. She knew that’s what humans would do with their children, She hoped the same carried over to Drones also.
Even though V could sense how terrible she was at it, Gail began to hush up and enjoy the motion of being swinged back and forth. Soon Gail began to start giggling, having slowly moved on. Gail couldn’t help but be happy at the warmth (literally) and affection she was receiving.
“Wow you worker drones really are simple to please” V smirked. Gail only laughed in response.
V tossed Gail into the air and hastily caught them. She knew Uzi or N wouldn’t approve of her doing that, but she couldn’t help but please the little pill baby in her arms. Besides as a Murder Drone she had heightened reflexes and could catch then without much risk.
After a couple minutes of throwing and catching , V went back over to sit on the couch, she set Gail right down beside her. This time keeping a closer eye on her. Gail immediately blurted out “Me wan warm”. V knew what she meant and put Gail to sit in her lap while she layed down.
“You really want to be with me that much huh?” V asked. Not expecting an answer “I luv yu” Gail chirped out. V was taken aback by this. She felt her core get all fuzzy inside, something that felt very unusual to her. “Love you too kiddo” she said softly, smirking while looking at the little one.
V slowly understood why N and Uzi were ecstatic about this little thing. It was absolutely adorable.
After that V decided it would be best to put on a movie for the kid till it was their bedtime. The two watched Inside Out for the next half hour. V vaguely paying attention, reminiscing as the humans in the movie reminded her of Tessa, Meanwhile Gail loved the movie seeing other creatures that weren’t robots, humans almost being like mythical beasts to the young in the colony. They would share all sorts of scary facts about humans, such as them actually growing their own hair!
They stayed in this position until V had to go feed little Gail, having almost forgotten babies are in fact very helpless creatures. Somehow Gail had forgotten also, maybe she wasn’t even hungry earlier and used it as distraction, But she was certainly not hungry anytime soon after the snack rampage occured. But either way Gail needed to be fed food beneficial to her health and not batteries. Afterwards they continued to watch and enjoyed each other's company for the rest of the movie.
“How was it” V asked Gail gently
“I wuv it” Gail said sleepily
“You love everything” V softly retorted “Come on let’s get you off to bed, your parents won’t be happy seeing you up so late”
V picked up Gail gently and made their way to the bedroom. She gently tucked Gail into her crib but as soon as she finished Gail began looking upset. “Me no wan alone” Gail said out aloud. V noticed and immediately picked her up. “Still sleep with your parents huh?” She asked. “Da da warm” was all Gail could respond with.
It slowly sank in that no matter what happened, Gail would always be a part of her life. She was her niece and they both shared a deep connection even within their own codes. She would make sure Gail got a good life and be there for her. Nothing could ever break them apart.
Holding Gail tightly V hooked her tail upon a pipe in the ceiling and hung upside down ready to sleep even if only for a little while. Hugging Gail V locked her joints in place, making sure she would fall out of her grasp while hanging. After a minute both were fast asleep feeling safe in each other's company.
Uzi and N came home later that night, they hadn’t expected to be out so long and hoped V wouldn’t be upset over it. Knowing their child was most likely asleep they entered their housing unit extra quietly. Looking around they could see remnants of a chaotic mess that was created in the living room.
“Good or bad mess” N asked gesturing to the living room
“Knowing V, probably bad” was all Uzi could say. She hoped Gail hadn’t given V much trouble.
They opened the door to the bedroom and were greeted with the sight of their child being held by V, Sleeping like a bat and their child. Both dimly basked in a dimmed yellow glow from V’s headband and tail.
While both Uzi and N were immediately concerned, seeing V and Gail sleeping peacefully so close together, made N realized his idea must have worked out in the end.
“Wow they look so cute together” Uzi said slyly while taking a picture of them, she could use this as a comeback whenever V insults her.
“We should let them rest” N yawned “little biscuit seems comfortable with V”
“Agreed” was all Uzi could reply with before plopping into bed and ready for sleep. Gail seemed comfortable and Uzi saw no reason to disturb the balance.
“Goodnight N”
