Summary
By the time they reached Vermont, Benson and Randy had already been through several states, motels, and vehicles, abandoning the last one and taking a cab the last ten or so miles to where they’d eventually settle in. They got a motel room downtown, walking distance from anything they may need access to. Benson grabbed some cash, stuffed it in his pocket, and took Randy out, splurging on their first decent meal in weeks at a local cafe, before heading to a thrift store. They’d been rotating through the same handful of outfits for a while, and Benson could tell Randy was getting nervous by how few layers he was able to wear the longer the summer heat crept in, despite the more temperate climate this far north of where they started.
