Work Text:
Lucifer had not anticipated so much to change after the last extermination and the result of Adam's death. Hell, he had not even calculated his death. However, he had to commend the little sinner who stabbed him to death. He believed that her name was Lefty? Or something along those lines.
The hotel had been completely and utterly destroyed. It would make sense, given that the whole battle had happened where the hotel currently stood. However, he had made a promise to Charlie and he intended to keep it.
Lucifer vowed to support Charlie's dream, and thus, once everyone started rebuilding the hotel; Lucifer took it upon himself to help move things along. He helped to make the hotel grander, with some added flare. He had built his own Apple-Tower connected to the hotel. It would give him the chance to look over his side of the pentagram and to be his own personal work-shop.
He wanted to be as close to Charlie as possible. And he also wanted to mend their broken relationship.
But what had really irked him was when Alastor made his Radio-Tower connected to the building. Because of course the fucker had. Did the two of them have to be on the same floor, though?
This is where things started to change. Lucifer might have hated Alastor for always hitting him where it hurts. Making comments about his absences as a father, pointing out how the radio demon had been there for Charlie where he had not, and his overall closeness with his daughter.
It had hurt.
The jealousy and emptiness had hit him to the point where he wanted to prove himself. Lucifer wanted to show Charlie and Alastor that he was more than the lonely and depressed ruler that had locked himself away for years. Which was why when his daughter had asked him to work with the radio demon on certain tasks, he had been reluctant at first, but he went along with it because he wanted to make Charlie happy.
The more Lucifer got to know Alastor, the more he worked with him, the more he saw him; he had to admit that he did not hate him as much as he had before. Alastor could be an outright asshole and loved to get under the King's skin, but, he also wasn't all that bad. Lucifer found the radio demon to be funny, clever, cunning, caring (in his own offland-ish ways), a good listener, and charming.
Lucifer rather liked that the two shared a love for music. But, he also liked that Alastor was supportive of his daughter. He did not completely understand what his intentions were. But Charlie seemed to like him well enough, so he found himself tolerating him.
But soon that toleration turned into friendship, and that friendship had turned into… well… a crush. And honestly? It both scared and concerned Lucifer. He had never in his wildest dreams believed that he would ever feel this way about the radio demon. And especially after his separation from Lilith.
Lilith… she was still a sore spot for him.
In the beginning, their love had been beautiful. Hell, she was beautiful. But, he had begun to notice the changes after a few thousand years. She had begun changing once the exterminations began. And he could not help but to believe that it had all been his fault. He had been the one to agree with these terms, after all.
And when he had tried to confide in her, Lilith had refused to listen to him. Lucifer just wanted her to understand that he was hurting. The humans he had loved so much had turned into such complicated and vile beings. All he had wanted to do was give them free will. Lucifer never wanted anything bad to happen.
So, when Sera had came to Hell at the Heaven's Embassy to speak about the exterminations, Lucifer had agreed to the terms. The exterminations would happen once a year, but the exterminators were forbidden to kill those that were born in Hell and those in the other rings.
Although his relationship with Lilith was falling apart, the two of them had still created something beautiful. The love that they still had for each other had given them Charlie, his precious little girl. But, Lilith was still angry. Oh so angry and she had intentionally took their daughter away from him. Leaving him to wallow in his steadily growing depression.
Many more years had gone by and when Lilith announced that she was leaving him; he let her go. Lucifer still loved her, but it wasn't the same as what they had before. They were both hurting and thus, he knew it was for the best to let her go. He just wished that Lilith had kept in touch with Charlie, their daughter had nothing to do with their issues.
And now, years and some odd months later, he found himself in quite the predicament. Lucifer was not sure what he was supposed to do with these feelings. Lilith would always be his first love, but maybe she didn't have to be his last. Alastor was a tall, dark, and walking mystery. Lucifer had no idea what the radio demon even thought of him.
So, he decided that he would harbor these feelings. Lucifer would play the field and see where it would lead him.
He just hoped that it would not lead to another heartbreak.
