Toys R Us Trip

Summary:

Peter and Kurt go to Toys R Us to pick out some new video games

Tropetember day 4 - retail AU

Notes:

I had to ask my dad where he bought video games in the 80s because I was born this century 😔

Work Text:

“Kurt, come on,” Peter said, pulling his friend out to Scott's car. He told Kurt that Scott is letting them borrow it. The person he didn't tell was Scott. He was getting impatient. Sure, Peter knew not everyone was as fast as him, but Kurt could teleport, he had no excuse.

Kurt jogged to keep up with him. “Just slow down a bit, Peter!”

Peter groaned impatiently. “I want to get there before all the good stuff is gone.” He made sure to put his wallet in his pocket.

When he and Kurt finally made it to the car, Peter opened the passenger door for the demon. He sat in the driver's seat and started up the car, turning the definitely not stolen keys in the ignition. They pulled out into the street and Kurt gripped the handle on the ceiling tightly.

Peter talked Kurt's ear off the whole way there. When he parked the car in the Toys R Us parking lot, Kurt tried opening the door. Peter swatted his hand away and got out of the car to open the door for Kurt. The demon thanked him and was quickly dragged inside to the back where the video games were.

“Yes! They have The Legend of Zelda!” Peter whispered and pumped his fist. He let go of Kurt's hand to pick up the game and check the price. Great, he could buy three games with the money he brought.

Kurt looked at the display and back at Peter, not knowing what he was doing there. “Vhat is The Legend of Zelda?”

“It's an adventure game where you have to fight your way through dungeons in order to save the princess, Zelda,” Peter said, not looking up from the case in his hands.

“Zelda is not zhe name of zhe main character?” Kurt asked, looking at the game Peter was holding.

“No, that's Link.” Peter moved the game to one hand and looked through the other games on the wall. He muttered the names as he looked through the selection. “Super Mario Bros., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber! Wait, how much is an NES controller?”

Peter picked up Ice Climber and went over to the controllers area. He checked the price and bit his lip. He could buy a second controller so he could play games with Kurt, but if he did that he could only buy two games. He decided it was worth it to buy the controller to play with Kurt than to get Super Mario Bros.

He showed Kurt the game. “This is Ice Climber, if I get another controller, would you like to play it with me?” Peter asked.

Kurt's eyes lit up. He didn't know anything about the game or how to play it, but he was happy to be invited to play. “Ja, I'd love to,” Kurt smiled.

That smile was totally worth it to Peter. He smiled back and led Kurt over to check-out. He bought the games and controller and they went back out to the car. Peter held the door open for Kurt again, like the gentleman he is, and put the games in the backseat.

Peter sat in the driver's seat and put his hand on Kurt's leg, leaning in to kiss him. Kurt's tail swayed in the air behind him as he kissed back and squeezed Peter's hand. “Let's go back to zhe school,” Kurt said.

“Yeah, and then I'll teach you how to play some games,” Peter smiled, shaking Kurt’s hand happily.
