Chapter 1: Stumbling Ginro

Chapter Text

The lights were bright and the noise of chattering surrounded Matsukaze as he stared blankly at the bar table. He wasn't sure why, but he couldn't bring himself to think straight, thus deciding to head home. Although he was there with many friends, he decided there was only one he really thought announcing his leave of absence would be worthwhile to. He looked to his left, opening his mouth to tell the person he had come with that he'd be leaving, Ginro, who was

oh

She was very drunk.

An older friend of theirs, Francois, who had agreed to come as a.. chaperone of sorts, had noticed Matsukaze's mood and also his somewhat concerned expression regarding Ginro's current state. They got up and tapped Matsukaze on the shoulder.
"Perhaps you should bring her home, I think she might've had a bit too much to drink".
Matsukaze gave a slight nod in agreeance, turning his head back to his childhood friend Ginrolina, who was at this point, practically slobbering on the table. Oof.

Matsukaze warned her of his plan, wrapping his arm under hers and over her other shoulder, supporting (or lifting) her as they stumbled out of the bar, Matsukaze preventing she trip after every step. Thankfully, Matsukaze lived only a block away. Finding it more convenient (or, safer, as Matsukaze convinced himself), he lifted her off her feet, holding her in his strong arms and marching towards his house with the semi confused and very red-faced Ginrolina. He noticed her face change in colour, and worried, assuming she was either worsening under the effect of the alcohol, or getting a fever. He stared at her face, distracted, and slowed his pace towards the house admiring her emerald green eyes that felt.. nostalgic somehow. They seemed to remind him of someone he had known before, although he wasn't quite sure who. A wave of grief washed over him as he snapped out of his trance to Ginro's hand on his cheek, realizing he had walked right past his house.

He stumbled back a bit heading back towards the door of his abode, and struggling to reach the keys in his pocket. He put Ginrolina back on her feet, gently, and grabbed his keys, one finger still around her collar so she wouldn't walk away. He put the keys in the door, as Ginro strayed free from his grab, turning around and taking his hand. She stared at it intently as the expression on her face grew to one of sickness but also sorrow. Her grip grew stronger as he blushed, stroking Matsukaze's strong hand with her thumb. He *did* have nice hands. Matsukaze found himself lost in thought again, staring at her while enjoying the soft touch of her hands against his. She began to lose her balance again, stumbling towards Matsukaze who swiftly caught her and rallied her into the house, as she headed straight for the sofa, almost tripping over the coffee table placed in front of it.

While ginro placed herself comfortably against the sofa, looking more nauseous than ever, Matsukaze headed towards the kitchen to grab them some water. "Do you want some water Lina?" he half announced. It had been a while since he had called her that, the second part of the name she had given herself. It was a nice name, one only they two understood. His train of thought was interrupted again by her response regarding the water question; "mmsjkmseurghhh"

He took that as a yes.

He filled her a cup with water, and made his way back to where she lay, crouching down to make the level of their faces match. Although he wasn't a generally lively person, he felt much more so when he was with her. "I brought the water" he said softly, approaching the cup slowly to her mouth. She moved her hands slightly to reach the cup, and placed the hand that actually reached it onto his, shifting her head towards it. She tilted the cup towards her mouth, as Matsukaze stared into her sleepy eyes and red face. He blushed as the cup met her lips, spilling most of the water onto the floor. Matsukaze snapped out of his trance again, tilting the cup back up and taking it out of her hands. It hadn't occurred to him that she'd have trouble drinking water while laying down sideways, oops.
He gently lifted her, so she'd sit up straight, though she kept tilting back over. He couldn't get her to stay up without falling again, so he sat next to her, letting his weight support her staggering body. "Here" he said, placing the cup into her hands while guiding it up to her lips again. He tilted it towards her mouth which he guided open by caressing her from her lip to her jaw with his strong calloused hand. She opened it obediently, silently blushing, letting half of the water in it while the other half accidentally trickled down her neck, which Matsukaze watched flow down. Ginro swallowed, as Matsukaze still admired her neck, slightly strengthening the grip of his hand on her jaw, turning her gaze towards him. They stared at each other quietly, as her face paled and then turned a shade of green making her body language turn somewhat panicked. Matsukaze realized quickly and reached over the edge of the sofa to grab the garbage can he always kept there. He placed it in front of her as she held her gurgling stomach, letting all the alcohol and fries she had stolen from Matsukaze earlier into it. Oof.
He held her hair back with one hand, as he rubbed her back softly with the other.
"Are you ok?" he questioned calmly but sympathetically. She didn't respond, instead leaning back onto him while he stroked her back still. "I'll get you some medicine" he said, getting up to leave. Ginro grabbed his arm with a moderate desperation "wait..

please"

She stared at his somewhat worried face, still latching onto his arm, as he sat back down next to her drunken self. "Ok", he sighed, perhaps in relief. They sat there quietly together. It was a calm, but comforting feeling for Matsukaze, feeling her warm body against him shift slightly as she breathed peacefully. He felt a sense of warmth engulf himself as she snuggled her body into him further, beginning to quietly mutter under her breath. He was happy. Not because she was drunk of course, but because she trusted him with her drunk self.
He remembered the first time he had gotten drunk, if you could even call it that. He had one sip of beer before passing out onto the table, as if it had made poison run though his whole body. He woke up to her, his precious Lina, concernedly next to his body, that was lying on the ground in the alley next to the bar. Francois was there too, and offered to take him home, which she agreed to if she came too. They had been at the bar to celebrate Kinro's birthday, but although she had been having a blast prior to his incident, she helped Francois carry him back to his home, where she stayed with him, chatting about how awesome of a friend she was to break the silence, blushing as he agreed with a smile.
That was a fond memory of his.

Tired of resting he supposed, she leaned off of him and looked sleepily into his eyes without saying anything. Her deep emerald eyes reminded him of someone he felt he had met before, someone of great importance to him; but he couldn't quite put his finger on who. Her silky gold hair shined, as he stroked the part that covered one of her eyes out of the way, warmly and lightly pressing his lips on her forehead. He had wanted to do that for a while.
Realizing what he had done, he expected her to jolt back or start stuttering, he regretted it already, but instead she looked back, surprised, but blushing profusely. Her eyes were happy, although her face felt somewhat upset. Matsukaze had trouble reading people's faces, he always had. He awaited anxiously a response or some sort of sign of how she was feeling, but what came next was unexpected.

"I lnghh mnu, Mmtskazeh"

Matsukaze stared somewhat in confusion as to what she was talking about, but seeing as she wasn't upset, he picked her up into his arms again. "You need some rest, you can spend the night." he said, carrying her to the bedroom upstairs.
When he had first picked her up, her body became tense, but reaching his room he realized she had already fallen asleep, her head pressed against his chest. She always had liked his heartbeat, she said it it was nice; and even though he didn't completely understand the sentiment, the amount of times it had put her to sleep like this made him feel happy. He was glad to have a friend like her, even if she could be a bit cocky sometimes. She had been unusually quiet tonight though.

He shifted her into one arm, carefully so she wouldn't awaken, and moved the blanket from his neatly made bed carefully. He rested her head on his favorite pillow, and pulled the blanket up, tucking her in warmly and stroking her head again. Watching her sleep so peacefully brought back memories, memories of them but also of someone who felt he had known before; someone he missed deeply although he wasn't sure why he had felt like this lately. Maybe he did have something to drink and didn't realize? Maybe this was a dream? Anyways, he was tired too. He clicked the lamp off, making the room darker. The moon shone into the room through the windows, and although it had begun to rain, the room was warm. Or maybe Matsukaze was warm, he always felt that way with Ginro. She gave him this feeling he got from no one else, one of admiration, understanding and unending joy.
Reminding himself of such, he layed down onto the floor next to the bed she was resting in, wondering what it was she had said to him earlier. The way she had said it made it seem important, maybe he should've asked him to clarify, though doubting it would have helped much seeing as her speech was slurred and staggering anyways. He'd have to wait until the next morning to ask if she remembered.
