Everything shows how they love each other. It’s felt in the way they laugh with one another, the way they feel safe and secure with each other, and just how they feel warm next to each other. They are shown in the laugh lines and crow's feet on George’s face. It is shown with how Dream always loses his mind while laughing. It is shown with how much they understand each other and continue to learn about the other. It is also etched with how they say each other’s names as if it’s some kind of prayer.
Their love is something that seemingly feels like it has been through many lifetimes. Yet it seems more than that because Dream and George make it more than that. Life changed so much for them when they met each other as if the strings of fate kept them bound no matter what.
As if the gods who are in charge of people’s fortunes and strings of fate laughed when they saw Dream and George. Enjoying the love story that is about to unfold in front of everyone’s eyes yet also for no one but themselves.
Life-altering, pace-altering, brain altering things have occurred between them. Without George, Dream would be in a different place and George feels exactly the same. They helped to build each other up to where they are now. Becoming partners in every sense of the word just more than boyfriends, more than husbands, more than lovers.
Both are connected in every single way with the other body and soul. Living with each other also gave them so much room for their love to spread since they finally can have more comfortable deep conversations they could never have before. Since George was a thousand miles away in a different country and over Discord declaring your love isn't the same. Compared to if you were together in the same room talking and laughing like you’re the only two in the universe.
Dream never knew until recently that George didn’t come into his life to be a best friend, but to be his person. Though George always wanted to be something more with Dream he still always just wanted to be the person that makes Dream smile. But knowing that they were always meant to be more is so just astounding yet so calming. Because they can feel that they were always meant to be together in some way they just weren’t sure in what way.
And now they have figured it out which is what the chain around their necks represents. It's not just love or being able to say this is my person, but a reassurance of how Dream and George will always be there with one another. The chain represents a condensed form of love, something they could hold onto no matter the distance.
Love that is held closely to their chest yet sometimes allowing others to see it. It’s an indicator of Dream and George being each other’s person. Just as important as rings that both or one of them would give the other one day. But it still has the same meaning, the same love. Not a sign of ownership but a sign of this person knows me and loves me and will move mountains for me.
And the chain lore all started right after George and Dream met each other for the first time. An already magical moment for them but it swept George away when Dream decided to give his chain that he was wearing for the most important events of his life to George. To protect as if it's a piece of Dream’s heart that he said to safeguard, to be gentle with.
Though Dream didn’t say those exact words they weren’t necessary because George understood. He understands how Dream is and what he deserves. George has also always been willing to give Dream the entire world completely and ready to be as gentle as well as loving to him. Because he knows Dream feels the same as him, they both care about each other so much.
A king with his knight truthfully shows how they are with that protectiveness and the readiness they both have. Dream and George would truly fight dragons for each other. In a way they accomplish that by sticking with each other no matter how crazy it gets. No matter how terrifying it can be, both of them have the other in the corner so it’s not as frightening anymore. In fact it becomes more secure if anything.
Which is what the chains help to show as well. And this was all decided not on just one day but through months of getting closer together and figuring out the “weather.” The choice wasn't immediate but the thought has been ruminating in his mind of what if Dream gave his chain to George?
What if he just gave George a little piece of himself to physically wear? Dream even thinks about how George enjoys the chain knocking against his chest when they are in bed. He also enjoys fiddling with the chain and staring at Dream when he has it out. So, Dream thinks about what it would mean for George to wear his chain. And can’t help but want it even more.
Finally, that day comes very soon when he sees George come downstairs in nothing but underwear and the Earth shirt he couldn’t hold it in any longer. Dream ran up to George as soon as his feet hit the floor. With how Dream is it’s like George could see the tail wagging erratically behind Dream. Looking at the puppy in front of him George can’t help but ask “What are you doing, freak? I can see your tail wagging.”
“I just wanted to ask something that I have been thinking about for awhile,” said Dream. To which George responds with an “Oh?” and a raise of his eyebrows. “Yeah I’ve been thinking about it since you landed in Florida. Then we have been talking about whether and I just was thinking uhm if it’s okay that uhm-” Before Dream babbles on in nervousness George told him “Hey, it’s only me, idiot. Take your time, it's not like you could tell me something that I would immediately say no to.”
“That’s true,” Dream goes to how George lets him just go on and on about things like football that George doesn’t really even care about. Yet, he will listen attentively to Dream when he’s talking about it because he cares and wants to learn more. Thinking about it makes Dream smile with reassurance and makes him more confident to ask George the question that has been plaguing his mind.
So, with one final breath, he decides to ask. “I have been thinking about it for a while and we have been deciding about dating and what we should do. Would you like to wear my chain?”
George can’t help but blink a few times questioning if he was still asleep before beginning to smile. He can't help but look at the man in front of him who also looks like he just got out of bed. With sweatpants and a random shirt he probably picked from the suitcase without any other thought. This man who is so beautiful no matter what and is soft and gentle. This man who is asking such a simple question that can potentially change their relationship.
After a couple short seconds George responds with “Why are we like this? Of course you’re asking me this in my underwear. While you also look like you just rolled out of bed which you literally did 10 minutes before I woke up. But yes I would love to wear your chain, Dream.”
Hearing the go ahead Dream begins to unclip his chain while saying “Here I’ll put this on you.” Once it's off Dream’s neck he places it around George’s neck while fastening it. While Dream is doing that George can’t help but reach up to touch the chain while smiling brightly. Both of them are acting as if Dream proposed to George which in a way he did.
Soon they begin to guide their faces to one another with Dream placing his hands on George’s face. With their lips growing closer until they were interrupted by movement coming down the stairs. Dream and George both turn their attention towards the stairs where they see Sapnap already halfway down them looking like he wants to either die or kill them. Sapnap sees that both idiots stopped and starts complaining while continuing “Why the fuck are guys doing this at the bottom of the stairway. Go do this somewhere else where I don’t have to see you two being disgusting.”
George can’t help but say “Woooww Sapnap is being homophobic not wanting to see me and Dream kiss.” Sapnap responds while walking past to go to the kitchen with “YEAH! I’m homophobic because I see you two be gay as fuck with each other all the time. Can I have a moment of peace at least while walking downstairs to get fucking breakfast? Man, I can't even eat in peace.”
Dream and George turn to each other once he’s gone and can’t help but burst out laughing. Both also say in response to Sapnap “He’s such an idiot.” Though soon enough after the laughter dies out they go back to what they were doing and press their lips together in a soft kiss. It doesn’t get any deeper than soft kisses against lips before they go and join Sapnap in the kitchen while holding hands.
After that day Dream also went and got a new chain that could be identical to the one he gave George. And they were always seen wearing those identical chains. There were only some times when they couldn’t wear them. But they always immediately put them on after those events otherwise no one ever sees Dream and George without their matching chains. Allowing them to be attached together in a way physically no matter what. It shows where their home is with the other.
It is also not said fully but Dream and George begin figuring out even further their feelings and how to even talk about them with the other. Even though it is nerve-wracking for both it helps them understand the other. It also helps to understand how much they love each other and for how long. Which drastically changes their relationship as well because it builds the trust that is there even thicker.
This is a welcome change though considering it has been years in the making. Honestly, the idiots were always destined for more than friends and after years it has begun finally being figured out. And will continuously be looked at as time goes on even when they are old and gray they will still learn new things about each other. That is something that is in their dreams continuing still being together no matter what. And loving each other even when they are in retirement homes.
