Blade of the Lost Woods

Summary:

Link heads to get the Master Sword from the Lost Woods.

Work Text:

Link walked into the dense, dark forest. Before him lay the Lost Woods, his destination. He needed to retrieve the Master Sword and use it to defeat the wizard Agahnim.

As he stepped forward, the green-clad warrior of Hyrule knew he had to obtain the Master Sword to stand a chance against the dangerous wizard. He was aware of Agahnim's plans for the eight maidens and knew that Princess Zelda, whom he had helped escape from the castle, was one of them.

Entering the shade of the towering trees, Link felt a sense of urgency. He knew he didn’t have much time to find the sword. Defeating the Armos Knights, Lanmolas, and Moldorm had taken time, and each battle had tested his skill and resolve.

Link gripped his shield tightly with one hand while the other rested on his sword's handle. As he did, memories of his uncle flashed through his mind. These weapons had belonged to him before he died on the night Link helped Zelda escape the castle. Now, they were his to wield—at least until he switched out the sword for the Master Sword at the end of this journey.

Walking along the path, rays of light filtered through the treetops, giving him enough visibility to see ahead. He spotted a few fake pedestals, each holding cheap imitation swords meant to deceive those seeking the legendary weapon. Likely, bandits lay in wait, ready to rob anyone fooled by the false swords.

As he moved deeper into the forest, a dense mist appeared, obscuring his vision and hiding the dangers lurking within.

His footsteps were silent as he pressed forward, careful and purposeful with each step. Link listened closely for the sound of potential thieves who were known to prey on the weak in this area.

A moment later, he sensed something approaching. Though he couldn't see the attacker through the mist, he heard the soft footsteps drawing nearer.

Link timed it perfectly in his mind, waiting until the last second. As the thief rushed toward him, he countered with an elbow strike, then drove his sword into the thief's chest, knocking him back into the mist. Moments later, another bandit attacked. This time, Link struck him in the gut before sending him reeling with a powerful open-handed punch.

Despite the attacks, Link chose not to kill them. He believed these people had been corrupted by the dark magic of the Lost Woods and were no longer in control of themselves.

Link saw more of the large Master Sword decoys, designed to draw attention and lure in unsuspecting travelers. These were traps, set up by bandits and thieves to steal from those greedy enough to chase after the fakes.

Curious, Link approached one of the decoys and pulled it out, only to find it was crudely made. As he examined it, he heard the sound of a bandit approaching. Without hesitation, Link threw the fake sword hard in the direction of the footsteps, hoping to strike the thief based on sound alone.

A moment later, the sword hit as he heard of the sound of the thief groaning as the sword hit him. From the sound of it, the fake sword hit him in the forehead, as he groaned loudly as he most likely passed out.

As Link continued, he noticed the path split ahead. A massive, hollowed-out tree stood in one direction, forming a tunnel that he would need to walk through. Aware of the potential danger inside, he cautiously proceeded. Fortunately, no threats awaited him, and he emerged safely on the other side.

In the dim light of the mist, Link spotted a few harmless crows flying overhead. Drawing his sword, he cut through some bushes blocking the path, clearing the way as he followed his instincts toward what he hoped was the correct direction. The forest felt endless, like a true Lost Woods, with mist and darkness filling the air, and only the faintest light filtering through the dense canopy.

After clearing yet another tunnel formed by a hollowed-out tree, Link arrived at a long clearing. This clearing was filled with the mist, and it felt even more dense, so the sun that should be shining down was mostly blocked. It gave it a strange twilight look to the area. The whole area had this eerie atmosphere. However, Link couldn’t focus on those feelings, as he had to get the great master sword, to bring back home to the land.

Walking forward through the clearing, he saw squirrels running across the path in front of himself as well as small birds moving quickly between trees darting for cover as if they were afraid of staying in the mist-filled clearing for too long.

Before him was a white stone altar to the master sword before him, and the master sword placed in the middle of the great altar. Walking up to the altar, he could see some writing that he didn’t know. He guessed he could translate it, but at that moment, he didn’t feel he had time to do so. He felt a great urgency in getting the sword.

Link walked around the altar and found the spots to place the three pendants into it. The pendant of courage, wisdom and power. He put each of them carefully in as they would each start to glow one by one before when all the pendants were placed in, the master sword’s blade started to glow with a dimly pure white light.

Link reached down as he grasped the handle of the blade. He knew this was the sword of hope, and what was needed to fight the growing darkness. He tightened his grip on the sword as he pulled it upwards. He could see the dim light glowing brighter as the light from the sword grow faster before when it was out, the light of the sword whipped the whole of the mist away in an instant.

As he stood there, he felt the warmth of the sun upon him. He felt in that moment a power wash over him from the sword. The clearing was filled with a brilliant light as the birds flew around and the squirrels moved happily into the light once again as if the area had been cleansed of a great evil.

He barely had a moment to relish in the warmth of the light before Sahasrahla’s voice entered his mind, informing him that he had successfully obtained the Master Sword, the blade meant to banish evil. It was now his duty to defeat the wizard Agahnim and become Hyrule’s hope.

With newfound purpose, Link stepped forward, basking in the sunlight for the first time in years. But as he left the clearing, another voice spoke in his mind—it was Princess Zelda. She had been found at the sanctuary and taken to the castle, where Agahnim planned to break the seal to the Dark World.

Now, in a rush, Link had to stop the wizard and prevent the seal from breaking. Though he didn’t know how it would unfold, he was determined to give his best effort. Confident and resolute, Link pressed forward, ready to save the day and prevent the catastrophe that threatened to engulf the world.
