A Silver and Lavender Night

Work Text:

Stripe lay awake, staring at the sleeping form of his girlfriend Trixie, admiring how gorgeous she looked. Her magnificent figure, the soft sounds of her breathing, the peaceful look on her face as she slept. But the most beautiful part of her was her fur, soft and pristine, shining with a silvery glow in the moonlight.

He sighed and lay down on his pillow, reflecting on their relationship thus far. Trixie was a passionate and determined woman. She wanted to play field hockey, hang out with her friends, and become a hedge fund manager, and she would be damned if anyone got in her way! She was patient yet stubborn, carefree but committed, sweet but assertive, a personality he admired greatly, but one that also intimidated him. He had no doubt she would do great things, that she would conquer the world of finance with that cheeky grin on her face he loved so much. So, why would she go out with him of all people?

He turned away from her and looked up at the ceiling. According to Bandit, she had been the one to initially show interest in him, that was the reason he introduced him to her, but what did she see in him? He liked to have fun, try new things, and party hard, but other than that, he was a shy and timid guy. He didn’t like confrontation all that much, he could be careless, and he wasn’t that ambitious. Trixie indicated she wanted to marry someone and have kids, but would doing that with him really be best for her?

He slowly got out of bed to not wake her up and walked towards the balcony of her apartment. He slid the glass door open and closed before sitting in a chair, hearing the busy city below, and looking at the moon above. He wanted to be with her, wanted to marry her and give her the family she wanted, but he wasn’t sure if he was truly the one for her. As he stared up at the soft glow of the moon, he heard Trixie faintly whisper his name.

“Stripe?”

He looked over and saw her standing at the door, her lidded eyes and concerned smile illuminated by the glow of the moon.

“Is everything alright?”

Stripe took a deep breath and composed himself.

“Yeah, I was just thinking about something.”

“You want to talk about it?” Trixie asked.

“Yeah… I might need a minute to think about how to explain it though.” Stripe replied.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be here until you’re ready.” Trixie responded, pulling up a chair and sitting down next to him.

Stripe looked up towards the moon, its looming silvery glow shining down on him. Vibrant and beautiful, yet so far above him, out of his reach. He hesitantly turned towards Trixie, tears welling up in his eyes as she saw her looking at him, his moon in the Night sky, concerned for his wellbeing.

“Oh Stripe, its ok.” She reassured him, rubbing his shoulders with her paw.

“I… I love you Trixie.” He told her, beginning to softly cry.

“I… I want you to have the best life possible. But… but am I fit to give you that life? You’re an ambitious and passionate woman, and… I… I… I’m not good at doing life correctly… and I don’t want to burden you.”

After he said that, he buried his head in his paws and curled into a ball. As he let his fear and anxiety drain from his body, he heard Trixie get up from her chair and felt her arms wrap around his back, shielding him in a warm, familiar embrace. As the last tears flowed out of his eyes, he looked up and saw Trixie, staring him in the eyes, her gaze filled with love and determination.

“Alright, so let me get this straight. You’re concerned that you’re going to be a burden on my life because you make mistakes and do dumb things sometimes?”

Man, it sounded really stupid when she put it like that.

“Yeah, that’s basically it.”

“Stripe, that’s not how love works. You can be annoying sometimes, but you know what? I think it’s worth it.”

The two of them stood up, Stripe wrapping his arms around Trixie while she kept her arms wrapped around him.

“You’re a magnificent cook, a great cheerleader, a sweet and reliable partner, and a good man. All the good times you’ve given me and all the support I’ve received from you make up for the annoyances tenfold.”

Stripe blushed, staring into the eyes of his beloved, glowing in the moonlight.

“I want to have a future with you Stripe. Maybe this is too rash, but someday I want to marry you and raise some beautiful pups with you. I’ve never loved someone like I’ve loved you. So, I’ll just ask you one question. Do you want to have a future with me?”

Stripe answered her immediately.

“Yes yes yes! I want that! I want to live with you and love you for the rest of my days!”

She pulled him towards her and placed her paw on the back of his head.

“And I want that too. So that’s what we’re going to do.”

Stripe leaned forward and pulled her into a kiss. The glow of the moon shining down on them. Lighting up their Silver and Lavender coats. Shining together in this night, and beyond.
