Chapter Text
Time of death, 3:33 PM. Dazai chuckled to himself, stuffing his phone back in his pocket. He wrapped his slender fingers around the railings of the rooftop. It felt cold and shaky, as if it were to break if he placed just the tiniest bit of weight on it.
“What a perfect time to die at.” He muttered to himself. begining to take off the shoes he wore. He was rather grateful the schools railings weren’t so hard to climb. Now he can finally have peace. Though his actions suddenly came to a halt as he suddenly heard a voice coming from behind the man.
“Hey, don’t do it, please!”
Dazai swiftly turned around to see a tall man, his eyes were shining like emeralds under the sun. He had the perfect blonde hair. It was Kunikida Doppo, student council, presumably the “smartest kid in the school.”
Of course, the man had his plans ruined once again. He’s never had a successful attempt. Someone or something always had to get in the way of him. He’ll have to try again, he can’t just jump off now since he wants a suicide that won’t bother anyone. Then again, him jumping off the rooftop would’ve caused a scene as well.
The brunette mentally slapped his forehead at the thought of all this, zoning out as the blonde one rushes over to him, in a panicked state. The two aren’t close, but they have heard of each other since they share almost all classes. Dazai being the troublemaker of the school, and Kunikida being the goody-two-shoes he always is. He doesn’t exactly hate Kunikida, but the thought of him acting like how he does makes him want to vomit.
Dazai thoughts came to a pause, suddenly coming back to reality at the feeling of slender arms going around his waist. Dazai couldn’t help but feel a shiver crawl down his spine. Kunikida drags him away from the railings, still having a tight hold on him.
“I told you to get away from the railings! Can’t you hear me, dimwhit!?” Kunikida shouts, it seemed like Dazai didn’t seem to hear his calls to step away. He was too in his own world to even listen to him. All he could think about was more ways to kill himself and how pathetic this situation was.
Kunikida’s hands adjust to his shoulders now that they’ve gained a distance from the railings. He still keeps a tight hold on him in case he makes an attempt to run away or try to jump off again. Dazai really only just stares at him, a small hint of admiration can be detected on him. Kunikida tilts his head, wondering why he wasn’t talking. Could he perhaps be mute?
“Why did you stop me?” The brunette finally asks, making Kunikida jump a little. He scoffs, finally letting go of him and crossing his arms some inches under his chest. “I can’t just let one of my classmates die!” He berates, unable to believe that Dazai just asked that foolish question. Kunikida clears his throat, expression softening. “Why were you gonna..” He pauses, not wanting to finish his sentence. Even imagining someone jumping off the rooftop makes him sick.
Dazai doesn’t say anything for a good while, contemplating on whether to lie or tell the truth. The blondes stern eyes were glaring bullets at his. He can’t just lie to him now.. The bandaged man sighs, applying his hands to his hips in order to make himself not seem so serious. “Well, I really have no reason to be breathing right now.” He responds, softly shaking his head. He tried being vague, but still telling the truth.
“That’s such an idiotic reason!” Kunikida grits his teeth, if he could punch some sense into him, he definitely would. “Of course someone like you wouldn’t get it.” Dazai complains, scrunching his nose to imitate a look of disgust. Kunikida only turns, lifting up his falling glasses with the middle of his finger.
“Come on, I’m walking you home.” He grabs Dazai’s arm, a wave of pain rushing throughout his whole arm. It makes him want to scream, but he can’t. Kunikida looks down at his hand, noticing the bandages peeking out of his rolled up sleeve. It doesn’t take an idiot to realize what’s going on. He quickly changes his tight grip to only be on his sleeve, still dragging him away.
“Tell me, where do you live?” He doesn’t question Dazai’s arm at all, which honestly felt a little freeing since he was constantly asked “what happened to your arms?” almost all the time during school.
Dazai tells Kunikida his address, he only nods his head before speeding up his pace just a bit. There’s no way he’ll just let someone who tried to kill himself walk home alone. What if he tries again some other way? Then again, there’s really nothing he can do once he gets home.
The two walk in silence, having small conversations which always end with Kunikida being annoyed. No matter what, Kunikida’s grip never loosend on his sleeve. It felt very foreign for someone to act this caring for Dazai. It almost made him feel something.
The two finally make it to Dazai’s house. It was one story, meduim sized and looked decent. Before the bandaged freak could even walk in, he was stopped by Kunikida to say one more thing. “Give me your number, I’ll be checking up on you every so often.” He pulls out his phone, Dazai following after. They exchange numbers and wave each other goodbye.
It would be a lie to say that Kunikida hasn’t heard of Dazai. He’s actually been pretty observant of him for the past few months. He’s seen him look tired everyday, falling asleep and looking lifeless with those dark eyes of his. He knew something was off when he saw Dazai rush past him and up the stairs once the bell rang. He knew what was going to happen, and he prevented it.
Kunikida watches Dazai rush back to his home, letting out a gentle breath of air. He turns around, heading over to his estate as well. The two are very different, pretty much opposites if you can say that. This will be the start of a very confusing, yet annoying friendship.
