It had been a while since he had truly been alone like this. It was easy to forget just how suffocating the silence could be.
Genba stared out at the darkening sky. It was going to be night soon. The first night away from the Boonboomgers.
It was going to be rough...
He had become so used to the company of everyone that now it felt wrong. His mind kept screaming at him to go back. Kept telling himself this was a stupid decision he made and he should return and apologize.
But he couldn't. This wasn't a battle he wanted them involved in anymore. This was his fight, not theirs. He couldn't get them involved in his revenge story. Not after he had proven he wasn't capable of handling his emotions over this well enough.
The image still haunted him, seeing his friends on the ground, injured. Because of him. Not because of any enemy. Him. He had hurt those he cared about. All because he had lost his cool.
He couldn't let them stay around. The last thing he had ever wanted was to hurt them. The guilt still hung heavy in his heart.
He missed them a lot...
Genba wished he didn't sometimes. Wished that he could just move on and forget about them. But that was a hard thing to do when everyone had made such an impact in his life.
These were some of the first people he could truly say were his friends. That had loved him for who he was and not what he was.
Was it worth it to throw it all away? He still wanted them. Wanted the relationship that had developed between them all. It hurt to have to keep telling the voice in his head no. That he couldn't go back. This was for the best.
Disrace was his problem. He couldn't allow them to get hurt again because of him. Unless he could reason that his rage wouldn't blind him once more, it was for the best he stayed away. It was better for all of them.
But... loneliness like this was really suffocating. Having no one to talk to. Nowhere to go. He wished he never had to feel these things again..
He couldn't go into the town. He no longer was looking human. What was the point in bothering? It wasn't like he'd be able to stay humanoid forever in the current state of things anyway. Might as well get used to this again.
Genba walked into the woods and toward a small outcrop. It was enough shelter for tonight. He had been in less before. He could survive like this again.
As he curled up to try and sleep, he still deep down was calling out for everyone. Wanting them to find him and bring him home. To show him there was a way they could cooperate despite the circumstances that lead to this initial decision.
But, in the end, life never had been quite fair to him.
