Work Text:
The fam held on for their dear lives as the tardis fizzed and spluttered, fire shrouding the centre console. The Doctor running around searching for a fire extinguisher, "I swear I put it here, or there, oh! Or there... Or uhm".
"You're telling me with the amount of fires you have around here you don't keep a fire extinguisher on hand".
"Well sorry GRAhAm I'm not mr... Mrs perfect!"
Their argument ceased as the tardis made one last bang and then stabilised.
"Where even are we anyway" Yasmin asked. "only one way to find out," The timelord replied bursting through the tardis doors into the unknown. The Doctor had no regard for personal safety but Yaz knew that from the moment she met her, falling through that train roof. Sometimes she regrets telling her she needed new clothes. As in she definitely did but lord did that woman look good in a suit. Yaz was snapped back to reality as The Doctor shouted her name.
"Ahh see earth" the alien licked her finger and put it in the air "Sheffield... 2018, see told you I was good, even in time of crisis I got you home." Ryan snorted sending the fam into a fit of laughter. By 'crisis' The Doctor meant she was trying to fix the custard cream dispenser and somehow fell over dropping the blowtorch she was holding and setting fire to her coat. "Stopp ittt :( I loved that coat". The Doctor said, like a toddler having a tantrum. Ryan rolled his eyes and Graham was practically falling asleep stood up, “Doc, can’t this wait till tommorow, I need to sleep i’m not as young as you lot” he said. The Doctor pouted and shook her head. "Hey why don't you two go home and I'll take her to get a new one," Yaz had been wanting some alone time with the timelord anyway. Ryan and Graham gave each other that look and went home, they wanted dockhan(as named by ryan) to get together more than they did themselves.
"The tardis should have taken care of the fire now," Yasmin said opening the doors to the blue box, The Doctor pursued. She was being pulled by Yaz, the contact sent a jolt through her body distracting her from the bright flush that had overtaken the other woman’s face.
Yaz’s assumption was correct and the tardis looked fine (apart from a faint smell of smoke that lingered in the air)
“So… what to do about that coat of yours, we found it in a charity shop so i doubt we will be able to find a replica” after finishing her sentance Yaz realised her hand was still intertwined with the alien’s and let go, much to the disappointment of the doctor.
“But I don’t want a new coat… I want this one :(“ The Doctor said with her big hazel puppydog eyes making it impossible for the other woman to argue with her. Yaz sighed and picked up the coat, there was a small burn mark on the left sleeve cuff but other than that it was in decent condition.
Yaz sighed “fine, let’s find a seamstress… although, shouldn’t the tardis have replicas of that coat, I thought she had an unlimited wardrobe”
The Doctor, who had been messing with some buttons on the console replied, “well she should but for some reason she’s refusing to make one,” The Doctor pushed another button in hopes of a different response but a red light flashed and she sighed and rolled her eyes at the tardis.
Yaz watched her little fight with the machine, oblivious to the blush creeping up her face and the smile forming on her lips, she couldn’t believe how in love she was.
Yasmin's eyes lit up, she had an idea.
"Hey Doctor, how about we just stitch it up ourselves!"
"10 points to yasmin khan!!! or was i doing stars..."
Her goofy smile made Yaz's heart melt and sent a warm sensation up her body.
Yaz took out her phone and looked up how to sew up holes and ended up finding a wikihow page.
"Hmm we need thread and a needle."
The Doctor smiled and without thinking grabbed the other girl's hand and started running, within minutes the pair found themselves in what looked like a child's arts and crafts room - The Doctor pulled out a big box of sewing supplies and dove in, she re-emerged with a needle, light blue thread that matched the coat perfectly and a rainbow thread, because she likes rainbows.
Both women sat down on a beanbag with the coat on their laps. Yaz tried to thread the needle with the light blue thread but her hands were shaking due to the fact that she was practically sat on the Doctors lap, The Doctor noticed this and quickly put her hands on the other women's to stop the shaking... it didn't do much and really just made both of them blush profusely. The end of the thread had frayed and the Doctor licked it and handed it back to Yaz (who was basically having a heart attack at this point), after what seemed like eternity the needle was finally threaded and the first stitches were being made.
After about ten minutes Yasmin had looped the needle through the final stitch and lifted her hand.
"ah." she hadn't done the best of jobs, still the Doctor smiled so brightly it lit up the room.
"Yaz! It's perfect !!!!" she exclaimed. "I still wanna use the rainbow though.."
"How about we stitch two little hearts framing it!"
Yaz chucked at how proud the alien was of her idea, but she couldn't lie, it was perfect.
The two overlapping rainbow hearts perfectly framed the botched repair job like it was a work of art.
"Why are you drawing attention to the messed up stitching?" Yasmin asked
"It's not messed up" the Doctor replied "because it reminds me of you."
"Yaz... Thank you" the Doctor leaned in and gave Yaz a kiss on the lips and walked away, leaving the taste of bubblegum chapstick on Yasmin's lips.
The Doctor really wore her hearts on her sleeve.
