Work Text:
Tonight had been great. Eddie had had the day off while Buck covered for someone from C-shift, and he had come home afterwards happy from a long, yet satisfying shift. Christopher has went to a friend's house to work on a project and the kid's father dropped off at home as Buck was pulling supper out of the oven. So together, the ate, watched a movie and put Chris to bed.
And then it was just Buck and Eddie, and together they moved with the ease of a couple that's worked for their love, and are seeing it pay off. Locking up, prepping the house for tomorrow, getting ready for bed, all passed by with gentle conversation between themselves, and when they curled into bed together, their bodies just found each other, like they were made for each other. And with Buck sleeping in his chest, Christopher safe in bed, and with so much love to go around, Eddie allowed himself to think about whats been in his chest all night long.
When Eddie saw Buck in their kitchen, making roasted vegetables just the way he knew Chris loved and he hated, brought a warm feeling in his chest. Seeing Buck move through the house that was missing a limb without him, brought a smile to Eddie's face. And watching Christopher look at Buck with so much adoration, reassured him that he made the right choice, moving from Texas and becoming a firefighter all those years ago.
Eddie was happy in a way he's sure he hadn't ever been. The loves of his life were safe under his roof, and he felt secure in his relationship that he was sure that they could brave any wave that crashed through their lives. He was content in the life he had worked so hard to build, and all he had to do was look down at his chest and see that it had all been worth fighting for.
