From that day onwards things had been ... Awkward. Well awkward was an understatement because it's incredibly hard to be any semblance of normal when the gods predestined you to be with a man you just met.
It's even more awkward, when you throw fighting a third god into the ring. Ororon could already feel the migraine coming in as he summoned Capitano back to the base they had set up after his fight with the Pyro archon. He tried to remain neutral, but it would actually be more shocking if the other man didn't notice the way his ears twitched and how his hands shook.
"I can tell you're upset, but I assure you I'm fine. It's nothing near fatal, just a minor burn" Capitano spoke slowly, not wanting to anger the man who was tending to his wounds. While he didn't quite fear the idea that the man would hurt him, the look he was giving him still gave a very stern warning of ‘don't’.
Ororon would have laughed if his teeth weren't clenched so tightly together, "a minor burn? If you think being hit by the fire of the sacred flame is a minor burn, then maybe we should test your ability to swim in lava alongside the Koholasaurus".
"I think submerging myself in lava is a bit different." Was all Capitano replied back before letting out a light hiss as the man practically doused his wound in alcohol, "that's a bit much isn't it?"
"Nope, the perfect amount to clean such a 'minor wound'" was all Ororon said as he proceeded to add a little bit more for extra measure.
Capitano sighed. "You're doing this on purpose aren't you?"
"What gave you that idea?" Ororon mused as he wiped down the wound and began opening a burn salve. Capitano hissed again at the pressure, not happy with the man's roughness, but in no position to say anything either.
"I may be dense in social situations, but I'm not stupid, you're mad at me aren't you?" He said as he sat up right, causing him to slightly push into Ororon, the closer proximity didn't bother him, but the way the man didn't even acknowledge him did.
"And if I am?" Ororon didn't look at him as he continued preparing the salve, seemingly very focused on making sure the portions and consistency was correct.
"Then I'm sorry." Ororon snorted and finished mixing the salve, slowly preparing to apply it. "I'm not sure what else you want me to say."
Ororon didn't stop nor did he look at him. "I don't need your apologies. What's done is done. But why go out of your way to provoke her then act as if a blow that would kill many others is nothing."
"Because to me, it practically is nothing." Was all Capitano said, Staring intently at him. He found he really hated how casually the man could blow him off. Like a scorned soldier instead of a Fatui Harbinger.
"You're not invincible, you're lucky it was only a minor brush of her flames." Ororon huffed as he finished applying the salve. "You told me what befell Miss Lohefalter at the hands of the electro archon, that could very well be you if you make the wrong move."
"... I won't let that happen. I'm sorry. It was a slip up on my part. An accident like this won't happen again." Capitano spoke tensely and Ororon almost felt bad.
He sighed, "why did you provoke her anyways? Last I checked, you have no current qualms with our Archon. She's not even one of those gods, it's public knowledge in Natlan that our archon’s have always been human."
"I ... Heard of the news earlier. Of the young child lost in the pilgrimage. I've never met her but I did see her during the events. She couldn't have been more than 12. She reminded me of those I saw during the ... Tragedy. I acted too rashly." Capitano's voice remained tense, clear he was recalling harsh memories of the past.
Ororon let out a small breath before speaking, "Kachina- yes. She's been trying her best each year to gain the right to fight the abyss. Of course the one year she achieves her dream ...." He trailed off. "It isn't right, you're right. Still, you shouldn't act so rashly." He still chastised him at the end, not wanting him to know that he sympathized, lest the man act so rashly again.
"I shall do my best to react more rationally in the future." Was all he said as he once again leaned back, this time letting his body rest on the furred carpet of their base. Ororon watched the man warily for a second, letting the events of the day sink in and settle. He was still upset, but he wouldn't lie and say he didn't understand. Knowing somebody was lost to the pilgrimage is always hard, but now, with the resurrection not working? That was scary. It was no secret that in Natlan, dying in battle was the ultimate honor you could have, but that didn't mean anyone should die in battle. Still … with the abyss always just around the corner. He cut off his thoughts quickly, not wanting to fall into another pit of despair.
The silence was all that was left, and once again it was extremely awkward. Ororon wasn't sure what to do. Wasn't sure what he could do. He sat there cleaning up the few medical supplies he'd pulled out quietly and storing them away, before fidgeting where he sat, unsure of what to do with himself now that the situation was seemingly resolved. Capitano had yet to move from where he was, laying still on the ground seemingly staring up at the roof above them. This may just be the most at peace Ororon had ever seen the man, which wasn’t saying much, but he still took note of it.
Ororon sat there for a few moments longer before he finally made up his mind and slowly slid over towards where the other man laid. He didn't say anything as he slowly slid down and laid beside them. Capitano didn't say anything either, and he didn't shy away from the man as he slowly settled himself down closely next to him. Ororon felt himself get bolder as he slowly slid himself towards the man, until he was practically pressed against him just beneath the crook of his arm. The other man said nothing and just simply slid his arm down lightly around Ororon. Perhaps this wasn't as awkward as he'd imagined.
