Work Text:
Enid was jolted awake by the music of her alarm. Moving only her arm, she groped blindly over the glowing screen of her cell phone on her bedside table until turning it off on the fourth attempt with a frustrated groan.
She groaned again and rubbed her face with her hands. She sighed slowly, mentally preparing herself for the day, blinking a few times before looking down. Wednesday was apparently still sleeping on her chest. She said “apparently” because the Addams girl had such a soft breathing that you couldn't tell when she was awakened from her sleep. Enid stroked her raven hair, disheveled from spending the night spooning like that, and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
“Wends, I have to get up”, she whispered softly to her girlfriend’s ear.
Wednesday nuzzled into her neck for a moment longer, yawned, and rolled off of her, curling up in the sheets facing the wall. Enid chuckled. On Tuesdays she had classes all morning and several clubs in the afternoon, so she wouldn't get back to her dorm until after dinner. That’s why woke up a little early to shower and get ready for the day, which meant she didn't have time to snuggle with her girlfriend like she usually did. Normally Wednesday got up with her, but some days she took the opportunity to curl up in her bed. She would deny it, but Enid's scent would lull her to sleep.
Enid finally got up and grabbed her towel and a clean uniform and headed to the en-suite bathroom. Humming softly, she washed her hair, got dressed, and started to brush her teeth. She glanced in the mirror as she brushed a stray hair out of the way and put it back in its place, when she looked more closely at herself.
“Oh, fuck”, she muttered to her reflection.
She spat quickly and quickly rinsed out the brush. She heard noise in the room and figured Wednesday would be up already, being much quicker and more efficient at getting ready then her.
“Wednesday?”, she called out without taking her eyes off her reflection. “Can you come here for a sec?”
Firm footsteps approached, and Wednesday entered just as she finished putting the rubber band on her newly made braids.
“Enid, what's wrong?”, she asked worriedly.
Enid tilted her head to show the side of her neck, where there was clearly a bruise of suspicious shape and location.
They had made out the night before and- just kissing though! They weren't ready for, uhm, that yet. Anyway, the made out session was quite unexpected, as they had to get up early the next day, but it wasn't often that Wednesday initiated any type of physical contact, so Enid wasn't going to complain. Oh hell no, she was looking forward to kissing Wednesday senseless anytime.
So she had gone for it. And at some point she had gotten a hickey. But she had no idea when or how it had happened. She was too distracted to notice in the moment, she guessed.
Wednesday immediately moved closer and watched with tight lips and a frown, her critical eyes scanning the crime scene as she gently brushed her fingertips over the darker skin.
“I am so sorry”, she murmured, pulling away and staring intensely into blue eyes. “I swear I wasn’t- I didn't even know how to do that, I-”.
Enid watched as Wednesday's eyes darted back and forth nervously, her mouth opening and closing without saying anything.
“It's okay”, the blonde reassured her, giving her girlfriend’s arm a gentle squeeze, “it's just a hickey, Wends, it's fine”.
She turned back to the mirror, taking another look at her neck.
“Ugh, people will definitely notice”, she muttered under her breath. “But it's okay, with my werewolf healing it'll probably be gone by tomorrow”, she shrugged.
“But in the meantime people who see it today will know that it was me who did that”, Wednesday whispered, eyes wide.
Enid noticed her girlfriend's worried, almost panicked tone.
“I can cover it up”, she suggested. “It’s not like everyone will notice. I don't have any clothes to cover it up, though”, she grumbled on her way to her closet.
“I can lend you a shirt of mine, or a turtleneck”, Wednesday suggested quickly.
“They won't fit me, and besides, I'd look even more obvious suddenly wearing black”, the blonde sighed.
Wednesday blinked once and turned on her heel to her side of the room, returning with a black wool garment in her hands.
“Snoods”, she simply said.
Enid tilted her head, questioning.
“We’ll both wear them”, the shorter girl explained. “We don't need a reason to wear it together, other than that we are in love and we wanted to. They fit our respective fashion styles and fit as an alibi if anyone shall ask”.
Enid took a look at her pink snood in her rack. She exhaled slowly while chewing her lower lip.
“Okay”, she finally said, “yeah, that could work”.
Normally, hoods were not allowed in class (except for Gorgon students), but with Wednesday Addams' reputation, no one, not even the teachers, dared tell her that she couldn't wear that piece of clothing matching her girlfriend’s in the classroom. Their classmates were clear on two things: one, that Enid and Wednesday were inseparable, and two, that the latter was terrifying. People knew that making any comment to Wednesday would immediately turn into a threat, with the possibility of a knife blade appearing out of nowhere and pointing it at them. So by association, any bad comment directed at Enid would mean certain death, surely.
In short, they wore their snoods peacefully and without observations in their morning classes.
At last the mid-morning break came and they went to their usual resting place, in an old, gnarled tree at the edge of the woods. It reminded Wednesday of her beloved Ichabod back home, although this one grew leaves in the spring and birds would roost there from time to time. They would usually eat a snack there or just enjoy each other's company in silence, Wednesday reading with her back against the trunk and Enid scrolling with her phone with her head resting on her girlfriend’s lap.
That day, they were just going to be alone for a little bit before heading to the school cantina for lunch.
“I can't take it anymore, I'm fricking roasting”, the blonde mumbled, taking off her snood as soon as they reached the tree.
“I'm sorry you had to go through a bad time because of me”, Wednesday murmured with her eyes downcast, sitting down beside her and taking her snood off as well. “You do not have to wear it any longer, if you do not want to”.
“No, don't worry, it's not that bad, and it's just today anyway”, Enid sighed, letting her head fall back, resting it on the trunk, and closing her eyes for a moment. “I understand that you want me to cover it. It's normal that you don't want people to see what we do in our, uhm, free time”.
Wednesday looked away and worked her jaw, shifting in place a little.
“Even though I am not a big fan of public displays of affection, that is not why I am afraid of people noticing it”, she said, fidgeting with her hands. “I…” she trailed off and audibly swallowed. “I do not want people to see that I have hurt you, I-I did not want to see that I have hurt you!”, her eyes were darting everywhere, her fidgeting more nervous than before. “I know I am not gentle and I am sometimes violent, but not with you, never with you. I did not want to hurt you, I did not know what I was doing, I would have stopped if I had known that-”
“Hey, hey Wends”, Enid looked at her shifty gaze and took her hands to stop her from fidgeting, squeezing gently to try to stop her from hyperventilating. “This isn't- You haven't hurt me”, dark eyes finally focused, sad and fearful, on gentle blues. “You haven’t hurt me,” she repeated softly. “Okay?”
Wednesday took a shaky breath and swallowed.
“I will not do it again”, she mumbled.
“No!”, the taller girl replied rather too quickly. “I mean”, she cleared her throat and looked down for a second. “I really enjoyed it. Uhm, quite a lot, actually”, she admitted with a blush.
The brunette couldn't help but mirror her blush at that.
“And it's okay”, Enid continued. “People get hickeys all the time! Some people even give them on purpose, so it looks like they've hooked up with someone”, she explained, shrugging her shoulders.
Wednesday let out a small whimper and opened her eyes, the panicked gleam returning to them.
“I do not want anyone to think I have somehow made a mark to claim my possession of you”, she said in a whisper.
Enid moved closer to her and placed her hands in her lap.
“Wednesday, I would never think that”, she assured her. “Your love is the most freeing and kindest I could ever wish for”, Enid admitted with a sigh.
Wednesday was taken back by herwords, her freckles standing out against the blush that covered her cheeks.
“I am… glad you think so, querida”, she murmured, nodding softly. “I feel the same about yours”.
“And people won't think you hurt me”, Enid continued softly. “They know you have a soft side and that you’re totally in love with me”, she added with a grin that made her nose wrinkle.
Wednesday scowled at that.
“I do not have a soft side”, she muttered.
Enid gave her a look, and Wednesday couldn’t help but comply.
“Only for you”, she admitted quietly.
“Only for me”, the blonde repeated with a smile.
She slowly moved closer to give her girlfriend a soft, chaste kiss, letting Wednesday sigh soundlessly and flutter her eyelids slightly before pulling away with a giggle.
“Besides”, she said with a smirk, “I don't really care about people knowing. I'm actually proud of it”, she added, straightening up. “I made out with my gorgeous girlfriend last night, take that, you jelly losers!”
Wednesday rolled her eyes with a huff, amused with her girlfriend’s antics. Enid put her snood back in her backpack and stood up with a snicker.
“Ready for lunch?”, she asked.
Wednesday also put away her snood and stood up straight away. She tiptoed to give Enid another gentle kiss.
“Vamos”, she said before taking her hand and walking together to school.
“Since when are you a fang, Addams?”, Yoko whistled as soon as they sat down at the table.
“Yoko!”, Divina scalded her, hitting her on the arm.
Enid faked a laugh and stuck her tongue to Yoko.
“Any other snarky comments or can we proceed to eat now?”, the blonde asked.
For the sake of their safety (it wasn't just Wednesday who was scary, Enid could be terrifying when she got angry too) the group of friends didn't make any further comments and talked animatedly about something else as they ate.
When they finished lunch and picked their things up, Bianca looked at Wednesday with a raised eyebrow and said nothing.
“What is it, Barclay”, Wednesday asked, clearly irritated.
Bianca smirked and shook her head dismissively.
“I was wondering if it wouldn't have been better to cover it up with makeup instead of going through the whole scarves thing”, she said smugly.
Enid heard it and started laughing, thinking how stupid they were and why the hell they hadn't thought about that before. Wednesday watched the interaction with a frown, and let herself be dragged along as Enid took her by the arm and led her down the halls to the classrooms, still giggling.
“What's wrong, darling?”, she asked. “Can it really be easily covered with makeup?”,
“Yeah, Wends”, she replied with a sigh. “It was the easiest solution, huh. With makeup you would literally see nothing”.
Wednesday hummed thoughtfully at that.
“Then there's no problem with me giving you another one later”, she said.
All the makeup in the world couldn't have covered Enid's blush at those words.
