Summary:

A brief retelling of Alien: Romulus in the first chapter, the post ending in the second.
An alternate timeline where Kay doesn't inject herself with the serum and doesn't give birth to the offspring. Rain, Kay and Andy are the remaining members of the Corbelan.
Follows the canon timeline but I add dialogue and extra scenes.

Notes:

A prewarning, my english is very poor sometimes so I mess up with my tenses and i repeat myself a lot. Hopefully its good enough to ignore.
I write extremely briefly about canon movie scenes, tried to be as accurate as i could.
Here's the link to my Rainkay playlist "I'll come back for you" - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1vBU5ScLVIUpJO6qKkBLOI?si=01d3ed94cab842e0
This chapter is EXTREMELY shortened, my memory isn't the best so I recollected what i could remember. Enjoy !!

Chapter Text

Jackson star, some shitty mining planet owned by Weyland-Yutani, 2142.

Rain had finally worked long enough to buy her way out, wanting to leave for Yvaga. Everynight she'd dream to watch the sunrise, everynight she'd lay thinking of her friends and everynight she'd hope she'd get to see the sun with them all.

Being awoken abruptly by the workers call she got dressed lazily, not looking forward to the day ahead. Everyday was mostly the same, she'd slave away for a company who's cause she had forgotten long ago. She'd picked up breakfast with Andy and she was headed to the colony's main office. After her original work contract is extended forcebly and being denied clearance to leave the planet she exits the office, her dreams shattered. She sits outside before her ex, Tyler, gives her a call.

"Listen I'm sorry for calling nonstop but something's come up.. you've gotta see it!" Tyler rambled, "Oh and bring Andy."

-

Approaching Tyler's trailer she greets Bjorn and Navarro. "I told you she'd show up.. you owe me 5 bucks." Navarro teased, Bjorn scoffed as he placed his gaming console away. Before Rain could muster up a reply Tyler's head popped out from his ship, the Corbelan, to greet the two. Andy and Tyler shared a few jokes before heading inside their trailer.

After moving through the door Rain is faced with Kay, Tyler's sister.

"Kay.." Rain murmurs, a gentle smile spread across her face. It was as if she was relieved to see her. "Rain!" Kay replies, placing down the bowl and towel she was cooking with to greet her friend with a hug. "Oh I missed you.." Kay speaks as they break the embrace, a large smile plastered across her lips. "I know my brother missed you too." She added. Rain brushed off the remark to greet Tyler as he walked in. It had been a while since they had last spoke, their breakup rather rough and damaging. Although Tyler and Rain were close enough to rekindle their friendliness and were able to start anew.

It was true Rain and Tyler were a thing, it was going well for a while before Rain discovered she didn't love him the same way Tyler did with her. Her love was more platonic whereas his was more full of lust and want. She felt sick thinking about it.

Rain apologized to the siblings about their parents who had died to a lung disease related incident in the mines. They brushed it off and started speaking about some plan which would help them get to Yvaga.  She was reluctant but she agreed eventually, if it meant she'd spend time with her friends it was worth it. It got her out of work afterall.

It was extremely easy to get off the planet, the spacecraft flying through the atmosphere with a little turbulance. As the others laughed at Bjorn's shitty way of impressing everyone Rain looked to Kay, focusing on her laughter to get over her nervousness of being, what Bjorn would call, "a space virgin". As they left the atmosphere, sunlight peaked through the spacecrafts window. Rain pulled her hand up to cover her face. "is that-"

"yep, thats our sun." Tyler replied, a smug smile on his face. Rain told the group she couldnt wait to see Yvaga's sun and that she'd seen it in her dreams, Andy pitched in and telling her that he couldnt wait to see it with her. The rest of the group looked on, knowing the truth. They fly the hauler Corbelan to the spacecraft, which is revealed to be the Renaissance, a Weyland-Yutani research station divided into parts Romulus and Remus. Tyler, Bjorn and Andy enter through an airshaft. Finding the cryo pods and turning the gravity and oxygen systems on.

Rain sits in the ships cabin, along with Navarro and Kay. As Tyler finds out the pods have a lack of fuel he goes to find a depot. Navarro moves the ship to collect the cryo pods and to move them to another airlock, this sudden movement triggers Kay to stumble through to the ships bathroom to throw up. Rain rushing after her to hold her hair back. "Hey it's okay, it's okay.. I'm here." Rain speaks softly, rubbing her back with her other hand. Navarro butts in, "hey I'm gonna check the cryopods.." Rain turns to face her, nodding hastily.

-

Rain helps Kay out of the bathroom to a nearby bunk, she places the back of her hand to Kay's forehead.

"Are you alright? You've been very tired recently.." Rain spoke quietly, "yes I'm okay.." Kay repkied, taking a chance to redirect her hand to her stomach. "oh girl.. wha- who's the father?" Rain was quick to ask questions, she furrowed her eyebrows as she looked to her stomach and to her face.

"just some asshole- don't tell my brother okay?" Kay grinned, smiling like some giddy kid. "I wont, I wont I swear."

"I'm just glad that my baby will see the sun.." Rain smiled reluctantly at Kay's words. "I really hope so." Rain remains still, their fingers intertwining. They share a brief minute of quiet before Rain speaks again. "I really hope you're making a good decision, if Tyler freaks out just know i'm here for you.. okay?" she sighs softly, Kay nodding. "of course I know, thank you."

The cabin grows quiet as Rain sits with Kay, moving her fingers to brush her curls out of her face as she falls asleep. Rain reminisces about all the times she'd spent with Kay. How gorgeous she thought she was when they had first met, her bright smile and her neat appearance. A lot different to Tyler, who always had that messy and worn look. Rain found herself smiling at her fond memories. It soon began to add up, she moved her free hand to her own forehead. Feeling herself heat up she noticed why she acted this way around Kay. Not because of the previous feelings she had towards Tyler and her automartic respect for Kay but because of the feelings she had for Kay that she had pushed down, deep. She's been too busy with work and trying to get over what happened with Tyler to realize it all. She wanted to kick herself.

She felt herself hold her breath before tightening her grip onto Kay's hand, her skin soft against her rustic fingers. Her gaze locked onto Kay's soft expression as she slept. She wished that she was able to be honest to her about how she truly felt. Wondering if she would ever get the chance and what she'd actually say. "I love you..?" she whispered to herself, frowning and cringing at the sound of her voice. "I'm.. in love with you??" it sounded more of a question, other than Tyler she never felt anything "romantic" for anyone. She felt if she were to confess she'd immediatly regret it, she already proofed to herself and to Tyler she wasn't the best partner. Avoiding intimacy and confrontation. She placed her fingers across the bridge of her nose. Shaking her head she sits back, her gaze shifting to the ceiling of the cabin.

She moves her thumb across Kay's hand, she was always good at physical comfort though. Tyler had told her before that her actions are able to speak a lot louder than her words. Maybe she wouldn't have to tell Kay but to show her. "shit.." she cursed quietly, her eyes falling back to Kay's face.  The cabin door reopened, "yeah the pods are all good-" Navarro came in, a big smile across her face. "hey." Rain said, her eyes darting between Navarro and Kay. Her way of telling her she was asleep. "my bad.." she whispered before returning back to her seat.

Rain spent a few more minutes by Kay's side before loosening her grip on her hand and moving to sit across from her in one of the ships seats. She furrowed her eyebrows, feeling a pang of guilt in her chest. Hoping that they'd get to Yvaga and she'd be able to be honest to Kay and to Tyler, like they were with her. She shook her head, turning to face the ships monitors to listen and watch the groups efforts to collect to cryo fuel.

-

not that long after the group had triggered a lockdown, a loud siren and a bright red light filled the depot. Navarro and Rain rushing to aid the group, Kay still asleep on her bunk.

To override the lockdown, Rain installs a chip from a damaged and burnt synthetic, Rook, into Andy, granting him access to the station while also updating his thought processing and general efficiency. As the group flees the chamber,  Rain reactivates Rook. While Tyler tries to remove the facehugger, Rook warns it may have implanted a "seed". Despite Andy's attempts to stop him, Bjorn flees with Navarro ont the Corbelan. Bjorn fumbles with the airlock as Andy attempts to get in. Kay awakens as Navarro stumbles into the cabin attempting to disconnect the ship from the airlock. "what's going on-" Kay says as she stands up clumsily "somethings wrong with Andy- he's faulty.." Navarro tries to finish her sentance before putting her hand across her chest.

"Navarro.. are you alright?" Kay speaks lowly, Navarro points to her bag. "what do you need-" she speaks as she gives it to her. Navarro moves her hand through it in a rush, pulling out a x-ray scanner and placing it to her back to view her ribs. Both able to view a creature bashing against her bones in order to escape. Navarro collapses and Kay catches her, "Navarro-" she groans as they fall to the floor, Navarro siezing up and foam building up in her mouth. "I don't know what to do- I don't know what to do I'm sorry !!" Navarro looks up to her in fear, their hands latch together. "don't let me die.." Navarro speaks before her chest rises and something breaks through her skin. Blood sputters onto Kay's face, she screams out of shock as Navarro kicks the control stick to the ship causing it to fly to the far left.

Rain, Tyler and Andy watch on from one of the space stations survielence computers. Rain is already distraught, her jaw low as she can feel her stomach churn.

Kay shouts for help before being tossed to the side of the cabin as the ship clashes with one of the fuel tanks of the space station, jeopardizing the station's orbit and leaving less than an hour before it collides with Jackson's planetary rings. The ship then crashing into one of the hangers, the airtight doors shutting behind them.

"wh..where did they go?" Rain stuttered, "the romulus hanger.. across the station." Andy replied. Before anyone could form a reply the stations warning system came alive, notifying the group they only have 45 minutes until the station clashes with the rings. "wait I thought we had hours what-" Rain began, "the ship crashed into one of the fuel tanks and knocked it off course by just a few degrees for the impact to happen sooner." Andy replies. "We better get going then." Tyler adds before the group jogs through the halls. Andy stays behind, moving into the lab to speak to Rook once more.

As Tyler and Rain reach a door to another main fallway they notice facehuggers were crawling across the floors and walls. "shit." Rain cursed, "hey Andy you think you could-" she turned around to speak but he wasn't there, he was too busy with Rook. Telling him the mission and that it was in the best interest of the company.  He soon returned to the duo, telling them his plan. Rain butts in "what if we raise the temperature in the room to match ours.. would that camoflage us just enough to go through undetected? If we're quiet enough.." she rambled, stumbling over her words. Andy and Tyler nodded. "That could work."

-

Minutes passed, Tyler and Rain sat at the foot of the door as Andy looked outside the window. "It's all my fault." Tyler spoke, "yeah it is.. mine, yours its all our faults" Rain replied, attempting to take the pressure off his back. Tyler chuckled, "I only want the best for us." Rain moved her hand to his arm, trying to comfort him. "I know." she replied softly. Tyler moved to look at Rain, his want for her still there. Rain moved her hand off his arm and avoided his gaze. "Listen I.. need to talk to you about something." she began, Tyler nodding. "you can talk to me about anything Rain, you know that." she nods. "yes but this conversation was long overdue.." she moves her arms to rest on top of her knees. Tyler listens, his eyes still on her. "this may sound.. insane but.." she pauses as she attempts to search her mind for the right words. "If this is about Kay.. I think I know." Tyler interupts her, Rain snaps her gaze to match his. "what-" he chuckles, "don't tell me I knew before you did?" he laughs harder, his hand moving to cover his face. "thats fucking hillarious-" Rain is stunned, lost for words. Her face grows hot. She places her head onto her knees, Tyler's laugh eases into a smirk. "Rain, it's fine. Honestly.. she-" Tyler begins to speak but it interupted by the thermometre for the hallway goes off, their attention shift to it. They stand rapidly and Andy talks them through the plan.

They manage to sneak through halfway before Tyler's headset began to go off. While Tyler and Rain were talking Kay had awoken from her minor coma. She wanderwd quietly through the ships halls before reaching the ships airlock and door. Her eyes fall upon a cocoon, guessing it was where the chestburster had moved to she grimaced. She moved back slightly into Bjorns grip. He limped before moving past Kay to the stun baton and boots up the electricity connected to it. This does nothing but burn the end of the weapon. Bjorn stops and stares as Kay moves past him, begging him to follow.

His gaze is fixed as a spike emerges from the cocoon, stabbing him in his eye. He falls, clutching his eye in pain. He groans as acid from the xenomorphs blood falls onto his arms, his chest and then to his heart. Kay stumbles to the door in fear, pressing all the buttons and attempting to reach Tyler.

Tyler's headset sparks to life, Kay's cries coming from it. Rain spins around, her eyes falling to the mic. Tyler pulls it to his ear. She begs for a key that she cant find. Tyler assures her it's there next to the console on the floor. She picks it up clumsily and makes her way out of the ship. Tripping and falling to the hanger's floor. Tyler tightens his grip on his headset as he gets goosebumps and he lets a tear fall. Rain tenses up as Andy turns to speak. "Run."

-

Kay attempts to stand, stumbling over the floor and onto one of the passage ways. She crawls underneath it as the sprinklers activate. The xenomorph from the ship jumps to the passageway above her, causing water to fall from the surface. Kay trembles, struggling to hold herself still her breaths are shallow and fast. As the xenomorph loses interest it gathers the bodies of Navarro and Bjorn from the ship and flees to a nearby hall. Kay stands once more and rushes to the nearby door, attempting to open it she triggers the hangers alarm. She turns around before Tyler and Rain are able to reach her.

They beg Andy to open it, he hesitates as he can see the alien sat on one of the containters within the hanger. "Andy you have to open the door- Andy she's.. She's pregnant Andy !" Rain yells, Tyler turns from the door to face the two. "Andy please.." Tyler murmurs as he falls to his knees, pulling at Andy's clothes. Rain moves to the door to tell Kay to run. Tyler yells and complains before Kay is injured and dragged away. The two can only watch helplessly before moving away from the door. "what the fuck Andy?" Rain mumbles before slapping her brother. She caves in and starts to cry, holding her face in terror as the tears soak her skin. Tyler stands at the door once more, he mumbles something beneath is breath before turning to the two.

"we need to move before the creature can navigate its way into this room. We need to move, now." Andy speaks.

They exchange words before navigating to the Romulus lab and arming themselves with guns. Andy warns the two not the use the weapons due to the creatures acid for blood. Andy finds samples of a compound called "Plagiarus Praepotens" which scientists had extracted from the xenomorphs. Rook insisted the samples must be brought to the colony, preventing the Corbelan from leaving without them.

They leave the lab through a conveyer belt carrying facehuggers and find themselves in a hall leading to an elevator. Unknowingly entering the xenomorphs supposed nest. They agree to find another route until Tyler hears a groaning.

It was Kay. He rushes off with Rain following shortly behind him. They pass bodies, their chest gaping open with dried blood and dead facehuggers. It was as if they were walking into a graveyard.

They found their way to Kay, her face grey and almost lifeless. Rain watched on in relief as Tyler began to pull apart the nesting. Rain pulled her into her arms, her hands moving across her face and spotting a wound in her shoulder. "She's losing a lot of blood..." Rain mumbles, Tyler nods before checking for other wounds. She looks to Kay in nothing but concern, she holds her tight before they begin to talk about the serum and injecting it into Kay. Rain interjects, telling Tyler that they couldn't trust the serum and that it was a dangerous call. He agrees.

Before they could decide to do anything else they hear the xenomorphs closing in onto them. They stand and move Kay towards the elevator door. Andy notices a blue layer of mist covering the floor, he crouches placing his hand just under the mist. Tyler moves to open the elevator door as Rain assures Kay she'll be alright. Before they could get into the elevator Tyler was caught trying to save Rain. He was picked up to a nest above the hall and he was ripped apart. Andy was knocked out of the way attempting to help.

It happened all to fast, Rain picked Kay up and they stumble into the elevator. As the doors close and it moves up Rain falls to her knees, catching her breath before looking to the surveillance monitor built into the lift. She zones out for a split second before snapping back into reality. She turns back to the elevator buttons and stops it from going up any further. "Kay.. Kay listen to me." she begins, "I need you to take this.. this evelvator goes up right to our ship, activate the autopilot and it'll take you back to the colony." she rambled as she hands her the serum and places her hand onto her face. Her thumb grazing her cheek. "But what about you?" Kay replies quietly. "I'll find my way back... I promise." Rain sighs softly before bringing her forhead to meet Kay's. Their breathing syncs together as Kay keeps her eyes open a little. Their is a delay in either of them pulling back. The contact seems to calm Rain down although she knew she needed the adrenaline to save Andy.

Kay moves a hand to meet Rain's, they both pull back slowly as Rain's eyes dart between Kay's. She can feel her breathing slow down every passing second she looks at her flawless skin. It was as if she was actively feeling her energy being matched. It wasn't the time nor place but she couldn't gurantee that she'd return to her in one piece.

"Kay... I-" Rain began, maybe it was the pure stress of the situation or it was the fact the girl of her dreams was right in front of her made her heart beat right out of her chest. "go." Kay replied, grimacing in pain before being able to smile.

"I'll come back for you" She spoke before standing up and pressing the button for the elevator to move up to the ship. She moved to the corner to grab onto the ladder heading back down to Andy.

She climbed down, finding her way to the hallway and finding Andy. She pulled out the device that reset him and he hesitated, grabbing her hand. "I'm going to reset you, you'll die out here." Andy shakes his head, "that's not in the best interest of the company.. or mine." her voice wobbles, it causes Andy to think to when he'd look after Rain as a child. Her sadenned state caused him to finally move, allowing her to reset him.

They raced to the end of the hall, fighting to get back into the lab. Rook had shut the door, Rain flipped out, shooting the monitor in anger. Andy stands back as she races through her thoughts. What would happen to Kay? the baby? the ship? Andy? She fell against the locked door, tears beading her eyes. Andy sits, his hand clasping over hers. Andy tells her jokes in an attempt to comfort her, bringing her to the idea to use gravity to fight off the Xenomorphs.

Rain disables the ship's gravity, allowing her to shoot the xenomorphs while keeping their blood away from the hull. Rain and Andy make it back to the Corbelan just before the station crashes into the rings. Rain stumbles into the ships cabin, her eyes locking onto Kay's tired gaze as she holds her again. "What took you so long?" Kay mumbled, a smile creeping through her tired face. "I'm sorry.. oh I'm so sorry." Rain replied softly, pulling Kay into an embrace. Rain presses a button to the ships autopilot for the MU/TH/ER to take over. They escape but barely. Rook reminds them of Andy's supposed 'mission' but he sides with Rain. She discards Rook and disconnects the autopilot to manual. "I'm afraid I'll have to deny your petition.. have a nice day"
