“So.. We still meeting up, Number two?”
Dabi is walking in the dark alleys of the night. He looks at the full moon as the light shines through the clouds. A long pause as he awaits an answer.
“Hawks,” He snaps, getting impatient.
Dabi brings his phone from his ear to where he can see it. The call is still connected so why isn’t he answering.
He sighs and as a last attempt to get him to answer. He speaks in a soft tone.
“Keigo, are you okay?”
Another pause. Maybe he shouldn’t have said that. Maybe something’s going on with the connection. Or maybe..
Dabi gives up and considers to hang up but Hawks finally responds.
“Yeah, I’m fine..” Hawks responds with a raspy voice, “And yeah we’re still meeting up. I’ll see you then.”
“Kay, see you.”
——
The evening after. They meet up at their usual place; Dabi’s apartment. An abandoned house made into a home. Well not really. It’s still a shitty crap of a home.
Hawks takes a look around the place. Everything the way he remembered. The rusty old coffee table in front of the couch. The broken ceiling lights, torn up blinds..
Dabi is sitting comfortably on the couch and looks up at Hawks studying him head to toe.
“So, why did you want to see me?”
“Yea, um before that…” And with hesitation he adds, “You look like hell.”
He wasn’t kidding. Hawks looks like he just woken up. Hair a mess, bags under his eyes, and it looks like he hasn’t changed out of his hero outfit from the residue of blood and dirt.
“Does it matter. Besides why do you care anyway? I thought we-“ He cuts himself off seeing the other look at him with distraught.
“Thought we what?”
“Thought we stopped with the personal stuff… and us,” Hawks softening his voice.
“Oh.”
Hawks had every right to believe that. After all that’s happened he for sure had thought he had lost Dabi’s trust. (And his love) Yet here he is concerned about him.
Hawks sits next to him. “You don’t hate me?”
“I do… though I still care about you.”
“Why? Didn’t I-“
Didn’t I killed Twice
Didn’t I betrayed you
Didn’t I keep lying to your face even though you knew
Didn’t I
“Yea…” Dabi replies knowing what he’s thinking, “you did. That doesn’t mean I’m not concerned about you. You told me what you’re struggling with remember? …Have you even, looked at yourself today?”
Hawks looked away from Dabi contemplating on an answer.
Dabi noticing his thinking and sees his hands fidgeting. He’s not wearing his gloves which is a first. He patiently waits until he realizes the new scars on Hawks hands.
Did he?
No maybe it’s from a mission
Though the way it’s cut
“Hawks?” Dabi can feel his heart becoming heavy as he reaches for Hawks’ hands. “You did it again, you relapsed?”
—
(The night that Dabi called, Hawks’ mind was somewhere else.
When he heard Dabi’s voice, it felt pleasing to him.
He was laying on his bed and looked outside his window to the balcony the moon was full.
And he had a feeling Dabi was looking at it too.
He didn’t realized the call went silent.
His thoughts occupied him too much.
And within a moment
Red feathers
Were piercing against his skin
With every cut deeper than the last
From his palms all the way to his shoulders.
He heard Dabi’s voice again, but he was still distracted. The moon was brighter than it usually was.
Making him draw towards the balcony.
He brought his phone with him as he leaned against the railing.
He didn’t realize he lived this high up.
The drop would probably kill him unless his wings of course caught his fall.
He leans even more forward making him close to falling
“Keigo are you okay?”
The sudden name drop made his heart skip. It’s not like he hasn’t used his name before it was the way he said it.
When they slept they skin to skin Dabi- no, Touya always called him that.
Keigo zones back in and realizes he hasn’t respond to him and replies,
“Yeah, I’m fine.. and yeah we’re still meeting up. I’ll see you then.”
Without a doubt Keigo would’ve killed himself if Touya didn’t say anything.)
“Keigo. Please Answer me.” Touya practically begging, he stares into Keigo’s eyes, desperately waiting on an answer.
With a heavy sigh, he unwillingly answered, “Okay fine, I did but it’s not even that bad.”
“Sweetheart, harming yourself is bad no matter how much it is,” Dabi leaned closer toward him, “Can I see it?”
Hawks was hesitant at first but he gave in. He slowly took off his jacket showing his freshly cut wounds. Deep and shallow cuts being scattered across his arms.
Dabi almost felt sick at the sight. The deep cuts still red and bleeding. The shallow ones leaving scabs.
Dabi choked out, “Not bad?!” He could feel his voice crack and did his best not to raise it.
With a heavy sigh, “Just wait here okay?”
Hawks nodded. Dabi soon after got up and when to look for a first aid kit stored somewhere in his house.
—
Dabi did his best cleaning and bandaging the wounds. Prioritizing the deeper cuts and wrapping them carefully in bandages.
When he was just about done, he saw his birdie softly yawn.
“Getting sleepy?” Dabi asked as he finished wrapping bandages.
“Yeah..”
“Come on I’ll bring you to bed,” Dabi gently brought him to his feet and was cautious with every step with him.
He let Hawks down on his bed and went to get him something more comfortable.
Dabi brought a pair of sweats and a t-shirt and let him go get changed as he laid in bed waiting for him.
When Hawks got back he cuddled up with Dabi (just like they used to).
Hawks could feel the warmth and snuggled into Dabi’s chest.
They stayed in silence until it was broken by Dabi.
“Keigo… promise me you won’t kill yourself. ”
“You know I can’t promise that.”
