Chapter 1: 09 November 2021: Officer Respond To Call About Unfamiliar Train In NYC Subways

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 9th, 2021, dispatch received a call from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, about employees who were reporting the presence of an unknown and unidentified train at 23rd Street Station, on the IND Sixth Avenue Line. Officer Vinnie Harris of the NYPD responded to the scene and met up with MTA employees who had shut down the station for the time being.

<<Security Footage>>

Security camera footage shows a train pulling into the metro station. However, due to its unannounced and unexpected arrival, several civilians who were waiting for their train step back or seem to react in surprise. The carriage arrives in the station at an extreme speed, and suddenly slow at an unnatural rate, to a complete stop. The civilians around, unnerved, step away from the newly-arrived train.

The subway carriage itself appears to be brand-new, with no visible signs of wear, dirt, or grime on it. It is painted a light blue and has wide windows, both of which are uncharacteristic of typical New York City subway trains.

<<Bodycam>>

The bodycam starts within the police cruiser that Officer Vinnie is driving. He shifts it into park, and steps out to face the entrance to the metro, and runs into several MTA employees. They have the front of the metro blocked off by yellow tape and wet floor signs. One steps up to greet the officer.

MTA Worker 1: "We've closed off this station entirely from the public, till further notice. The guys down there, they'll be able to brief you on the whole thing."

Officer Vinnie: "I got a call about some unknown train in the station?"

MTA Worker 1: "Yeah, well... hard to explain. The situation is really weird."

Officer Vinnie: "Is it not, like, some kind of scheduling mishap?"

MTA Worker 1: "It's more than that, head down there and look for yourself."

The MTA Worker lifts the yellow caution tape, so the officer can step beneath it. Officer Vinnie continues his way down the stairs of the metro. The camera adjusts to the lack of sunlight within the metro. Several other MTA workers stand around, clad in high-visibility vests. Others donned hard-hats, hopping down to the tracks and observing the area around the train.

<<Narrator>>

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Vinnie assesses the situation. A person-in-charge speaks with him about the situation.

<<Bodycam>>

MTA Worker 2: "Hey, thanks for coming."

Officer Vinnie: "You need me to secure the site? It seems you've got things locked down rather well."

MTA Worker 2: "Yeah, we're just... worried, things are weird. We've shut down all the stations on the line just to be safe, too."

Officer Vinnie points at the train carriage.

Officer Vinnie: "Anything on the train itself? Where it came from, who owns it, how it got here?"

The MTA worker shook his head.

MTA Worker 2: "Nothing. We're just as confused as you are. Guys up top are accessing security camera footage. We're just worried that it might be... well, malicious. They haven't ruled out terrorism, though it'd be a really weird terrorist attack if it was one."

Officer Vinnie: "Do you have a reasonable suspicion that it could be terrorism? If that's a concern I can have a bomb squad called in."

MTA Worker 2: "None at all, but the possibility hasn't been ruled out. We're just worried it might be."

Officer Vinnie: "Alright. I'd recommend not saying anything like that to the public, not yet. The T-word alone gets people jumpy."

MTA Worker 2: "My lips are sealed. If I dare step in front of a camera the guys up top are gonna have my ass on a plate, 'sepcially since we haven't released an official statement yet."

Officer Vinnie: "The public knows about the closures though, right?"

MTA Worker 2: "As I'm aware, the most we've said is 'technical issues'. But the civilians that were in the station when this thing rolled up probably know that's bull. I bet there's rumors flying left and right on social media."

Officer Vinnie walks over to the train carriage as he talks with the person-in-charge. The inside of the carriage appears to be mostly unlit, with only the light of the subway station itself streaming through the windows.

<<Narrator>>

As he approaches the unidentified train carriage, he glances within the subway car itself, and notices something concerning.

<<Bodycam>>

The police officer shines his flashlight through the windows of the carriage, slowly. However, something seems to catch his attention. He turns to the MTA worker.

Officer Vinnie: "Have any of you checked the inside of this subway train yet?"

MTA Worker 2: "We can't open the doors remotely, since it's not one of our cars. But we had some of our guys look in, and they didn't see anyone."

Officer Vinnie: "All the cars?"

MTA Worker 2: "I'm... not sure."

Officer Vinnie flashes his flashlight across the windows again. A glimpse of a human silhouette could be seen, but it was difficult to make out due to the glare from the windows.

Officer Vinnie: "I'm asking because I see someone."

MTA Worker 2: "There is?"

The flashlight goes over another section of window, where some blood can be seen splattered. Officer Vinnie's flashlight remains fixated on that splotch, for just a moment.

Officer Vinnie: "I see blood in there. We need to get inside, help me open this door."

Officer Vinnie steps over to one of the closed doors of the subway carriage, and pries his hand between the two doors. He forces the doors apart, and the MTA worker he was just speaking to grabs one door to pull. Seconds later, the other door is grabbed by another who is standing by, allowing them to pull the unpowered door. As he does so, the lights within the unpowered subway car flicker to life. Officer Vinnie flinches, but makes his way in regardless, to where he saw the individual within.

<<Narrator>>

Officer Vinnie manages to force open the doors of the metro, with the help of some MTA staff. In there, he'd find a girl sitting on a subway seat, seemingly unconscious. He immediately calls for medical personnel to arrive on-scene.

<<Bodycam>>

Officer Vinnie walks, almost runs, down the subway carriage. Near the middle of the carriage, the bodycam spots the figure of a white-clad girl, sitting in the seat. Blood stained her clothes, and dripped down to the floor. What was also particularly notable was her hair; it was an unnatural sky-blue, and so long that it draped down past the seat.

Officer Vinnie: "10-54, we need EMS, an ambulance here. Young woman, late teens to early twenties, bleeding profusely."

Once Vinnie reached the girl, he placed a hand on her shoulder, and lightly shook her.

Officer Vinnie: "Ma'am. Ma'am, are you awake?"

Vinnie's hand flinches away, as a sudden light could be seen flashing into existence above the girl. He backs up, allowing the bodycam to take in the glowing, light-blue ring that hovered above her head. A cross was going through said ring, the center of it askew from the center of the ring.

Despite being startled, the officer remains composed, and continues trying to assess the girl's condition.

Officer Vinnie: "Whoa! Uh, ma'am? Are you alright?"

He brought his hand up to the halo hovering over her head. The pale blue light, which was the same color as her hair, seemed to reflect off of his hand. Officer Vinnie tried to touch it, drawing his hand back as though it'd burn him. However, after pausing for a second, he tried touching it again, and his hand phased right through it.

Officer Vinne: "...The hell?"

He was snapped back to attention when the young woman's eyes flickered open. Her irises were a deep, mesmurizing blue. The officer was quiet for five seconds, but was snapped out of his stupor by the sounds of distant sirens.

Officer Vinne: "Ma'am?"

There seemed to be an expression of serenity, or happiness, or resignation, on the girl's face at first. However, when she saw the man, then flickered her eyes to look at what was presumably the two MTA workers behind the officer, her expression shifted to one of confusion.

Unknown Woman: "Who... wait, this isn't...?"

Officer Vinnie: "It's alright, we're here to help. Ambulance is on its way."

Despite his reassurances, she grabbed his outstretched hand and tried to lift herself to her feet.

Unknown Woman: "This... this isn't right...!"

Vinnie used his other hand to hold her down by the shoulder.

Officer Vinnie: "Stop, stop!"

The woman stopped trying to stand up.

Officer Vinnie: "You're gonna make your injuries worse, and I can't tourniquet a torso. Just... stay calm, we're getting you help."

As if on cue, they could hear the stomp of boots on the metal floor of the train.

Paramedic 1: "Clear the way! Clear the way!"

Paramedic 2: "Move!"

The officer moved, facing the bodycam down the train, where a few medical personnel were already boarding. The MTA workers had stepped back, allowing them to move through.

<<Narrator>>

Once emergency medical personnel arrive, Officer Vinnie steps back and allows them to handle the situation. He checks the rest of the subway to ensure that nobody else is within, and after confirming that, he steps back out to collect some witness statements from MTA employees.

<<Bodycam>>

Officer Vinnie retreats back, allowing the paramedics to attend to the girl. He turns to look down the rest of the subway car and, seeing nobody, steps out of the train. The camera briefly flickers over to the windows of the train windows, where he can see the paramedics attending to the injured girl. He procures a pocket notebook from his pocket, and turns to the MTA workers.

Officer Vinnie: "I'll need to collect some witness statements from you guys, and probably anyone else who was in person while the train was pulling in."

MTA Worker 2: "You're not gonna talk to our boss about us missing this, I hope?"

Officer Vinnie: "Nah, none of you guys are in trouble, I just need witnesses statements."

MTA Worker 2: "Any specific procedure we need to go through, or..?

Officer Vinnie: "This whole situation is unprecedented, I'm just doing whatever needs to be done as it comes along."

The footage cuts before it reveals Officer Vinnie writing down any of the information.

<<Security Footage>>

The silver-blue haired girl is seen being wheeled out of the train carriage on a stretcher. While the footage is grainy, that distinct glowing ring with a cross through it could be seen floating above her head. Officer Vinnie could be seen at the side, writing down in his pocket notebook. He glances over at the girl, as she's being wheeled away, before returning to writing.

<<Narrator>>

After the girl was brought to the hospital, her condition was stabilized and she is expected to make a full recovery. However, she has yet to reveal her identity, nor was she willing to testify on the origin of the subway train. The police investigation behind this incident is still ongoing. If you have any tips or information, please report them to the New York Police Department and the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Chapter 2: 10 November 2021: Barstow Police Confiscate Minigun From Juvenile Girls

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On the morning of Novevmber 10th, 2021, dispatch in the town of Barstow, California received a call from a Mobil gas station on Barstow Road, right off of Interstate 15. A group of high-school aged girls had been spotted at the Rotary Centennial Park by gas station employees, and was seen staying there over the course of the entire night. Officer Anderson Grady of the Barstow Police Department responded, and was initially expecting it to be a runaway juvenile call. What he'll encounter, however, was far more than he'd expect.

<<Anderson Grady's Bodycam>>

Officer Grady steps out of his police cruiser, after shifting it into park. The lights of his police cruiser were flashing, lighting up the surrounding dark early dawn. To the side of his police cruiser was the Rotary Centennial Park, where an old red caboose and a decommissioned tan M47 tank sat. The camera caught sight of three girls, who were huddled by the tank. The most immediate, noticeable thing about them were these various, glowing lights above their heads.

Officer Grady: "These lights a new trend or something? Gotta ask my son about that."

The officer grabs his radio, and speaks into it.

Officer Grady: "Reporting, three female juveniles. I'll go see what's up."

He walks towards the trio, and begins talking to them. One could be seen with platinum-blonde hair, wearing a yellow jacket and a black skirt. There was a green-yellow glow floating above her head. A much shorter girl, with comically bright pink hair and dressed in a similar outfit, leaned against her and the tank they were standing beside. The last girl had short black hair in a bob cut, with red glasses and an equally red circular glow above her.

Officer Grady: "Hello. You three, I got a call about you guys and just checking up to make sure you're fine. It's a bit chilly out there, too. What are you girls doing out at this hour?"

<<Narrator>>

The weather that night had lows of 58 degrees.

<<Anderson Grady's Bodycam>>

Of the trio of girls, the pale blonde one, is the one to speak up first.

Blonde Girl: "Oh, hi! We're just... well, it's chilly, yeah, but we're also a little lost."

The light above the pink-haired girl could be seen visibly flickering a bit. She was leaning against the tank, as the blonde girl tried to keep her standing.

Officer Grady: "Is she alright?"

Blonde Girl: "Sorry, Hoshino's just... very sleepy. She hadn't had a wink of sleep this whole night ever since we found ourselves here, she's been on alert."

Officer Grady: "Alert? Why?"

This was when Officer Grady got close enough to see that the pink-haired girl, whom the blonde called 'Hoshino', was also propping herself up with what appears to be a firearm. The gun itself seems to be some type of shotgun, colored in black, white, and with pink pastel highlights on it. Officer Grady immediately stops, and he shifts one hand to his hip, near his service weapon. But he does not draw it.

Officer Grady: "Uh, just to be sure. You girls don't have any weapons on you, right?"

Blonde Girl: "We do have a few... first though, who are you? You're police, right?"

Officer Grady: "From the Barstow PD, yes. Just to confirm, how many weapons do you three have?"

Blonde Girl: "Hoshino here has her shotgun... and her shield. I have my own."

The black-haired girl, who is sitting on the tank with her legs dangling down, pipes up.

Black-Haired Girl: "A-and I have my handgun and drone with me, too."

<<Narrator>>

Despite the presence of weapons, Officer Grady remained composed, to ensure that the situation does not escalate. As none of the three girls are visibly hostile towards him, he takes steps to separate them from their firearms.

<<Anderson Grady's Bodycam>>

Officer Grady: "Alright, so. Listen carefully. I don't want this situation to potentially get messy, and I doubt you do either. Just to be sure, can you three just leave your weapons where you are, and step aside to my police cruiser?"

Blonde Girl: "Is this for safety purposes?"

Officer Grady: "Yes, it's-"

Blonde Girl: "No, I understand."

The blonde girl begins by prying the shotgun out of Hoshino's hand. Hoshino murmurs something which is barely picked up by the bodycam.

Hoshino: "Nonomi, I don't trust him..."

Blonde Girl (Nonomi): "Hoshino, please. I promise, we'll get answers this way."

The officer does not seem to have heard this exchange, however. He stands there and radios to dispatch over the current status.

Officer Grady: "10-44, can I have, uh, Rosalee here? Three juvenile females, need a pat-down search done on them."

Radio: "Copy."

After Nonomi got hold of the shotgun, she lays it down on the ground gently. Likewise, the black-haired girl, holding the grip of her handgun, places it on the tank next to where she was sitting, allowing Officer Grady full view of it.

Nonomi: "Is this good?"

Officer Grady shines his flashlight over the weapons on the ground. He spots the rather large drone, which is also sitting on the tank next to the black-haired girl.

Officer Grady: "It looks good, but, miss...?"

Nonomi: "Izayoi Nonomi!"

Officer Grady: "Right, Miss Izayoi. You said your party has three weapons, and I see the handgun and shotgun. And there's the drone. You said you had a weapon, too?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "Yes, it's my... Oh, I forgot! My minigun is still on!"

Nonomi holds a hand up to her mouth, almost in surprise.

Officer Grady: "Your 'mini-gun' is... still on?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "Yes."

Nonomi effortlessly picks up something on the ground that looks vaguely like a generator in the dark. Officer Grady shines his light over it to reveal that it, in fact, was the recognizable silouhette of a minigun. The minigun itself was black and white, with several green highlights across the rather large weapon.

Izayoi Nonomi: "The battery might drain if I leave it on."

Officer Grady: "Th-that thing's yours?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "Yes, may I turn it off please?"

Officer Grady: "Uh... uhm... do it slowly. And put it back down when you're done, please."

Nonomi kneeled down, laying her minigun on the ground. She flicked a switch on it, then stood back up without lifting the weapon. Officer Grady supervised her as she did so.

Izayoi Nonomi: "Is that alright?"

Officer Grady: "Yeah. Now can you three please step away, next to my police cruiser?"

The three complied with his instructions, stepping over to his police cruiser. A second police vehicle, with its lights flashing, drives up to the curb.

Officer Grady: "That must be Rosalee. Okay."

He shines his flashlight over the minigun again, which he steps up to and looks down on. It was much larger up-close than he initially expected.

Officer Grady: "Don't think this was ever covered in training..."

The police officer then grabs his radio, and speaks into it.

Officer Grady: "Get me Pierce, too. Need him to collect some weapons I've confiscated."

Radio: "Weapons. Are you unable to transport them yourself?"

Officer Grady: "I'll put it this way, one of them is a minigun. Pierce was in the Marines, I'd trust him to know a thing or two on how to handle them."

There was a moment's pause. And then...

Radio: "Copy. We'll send Pierce out."

<<Narrator>>

As Officer Anderson Grady examines the weapons, Officer Rosalee Bins does a full pat-down on the three juveniles, to ensure they had no other weapons with them. She also checks the IDs they provide to her.

<<Rosalee Bins' Bodycam>>

The video cuts to her holding what seems to be an ID card that was provided to her. The details are blurred out on the film itself.

Officer Bins: "You are Izayoi Nonomi, from Kivotos? And... Abydos High School, is that correct?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "Yes."

The female officer flips to the next ID.

Officer Bins: "Takanashi Hoshino is the short pink one, from Abydos too?"

There was a moment of silence, and Nonomi apologizes.

Izayoi Nonomi: "I'm sorry, she's tired. Her halo's flickering, I think poor Hoshino's about to pass out."

The flickering pink light could be seen on Officer Bins' bodycam. She seems to nod.

Officer Bins: "Uh-huh..."

She flips to the next ID, after her reluctant affirmation, and reads out the next name.

Officer Bins: "And you are Okusora Ayane? Also from Abydos."

Okusora Ayane: "Y-yes, I am."

Officer Bins: "Are those pointy ears real?"

Okusora Ayane: "Why wouldn't they be?"

A moment of silence. The bodycam shifts up a bit, to reveal that the one named Okusora Ayane had a pair of pointed ears protruding out from her black hair, where normal human ears would be. She seems to have a confused expression on her face.

Officer Bins: "I was... expecting you to say no."

The female officer then hands the three girls their IDs back.

Officer Bins: "Well, girls, I don't know what to say. I've never heard of an 'Abydos High School' before. The closest high school is Barstow High School. This isn't a prank or anything, right? Because if it was, you'll be in a bit of a pickle."

Nonomi shakes her head at the assertation.

Izayoi Nonomi: "No, no, no, not at all! We just... are a little lost. You really haven't heard of Abydos before? What about Kivotos?"

Officer Bins: "Not at all, and I've lived here all my life."

Nonomi seemed to deflate at that.

Izayoi Nonomi: "Oh... we're just... very lost. And we haven't had anything to eat for some time, either."

Officer Bins: "Where are your parents?"

Okusora Ayane: "None of us know, if we were in Kivotos we'd be able to contact them."

Officer Bins paused for a minute, as if thinking over what to do next.

Officer Bins: "Look, it's cold out here. I can drive you back to the station, get you something breakfast. We can sort this out. And, uh... you can remove those little light props on your heads, they're a little distracting."

Izayoi Nonomi: "Our halos? We can't really remove them."

Officer Bins: "Well, uh, suit yourself. Get in the back of my cruiser. All three of you can fit fine, right? It'd probably be a little cramped."

As Officer Bins is about to turn back to her car, she stops when she sees the pink light above Hoshino flicker out entirely. Hoshino slumps against Nonomi, who in turn shifts her shoulder to support the shorter girl.

Officer Bins: "Is the pink lass, Taka... uh, I've forgotten her name, is she fine?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "I'll carry her myself. She's just tired."

<<Narrator>>

Officer Bins drives the three to Barstow's police station, to sort the matter out. During the drive, they exchange questions, which only seems to confuse the three girls.

<<Rosalee Bins' Bodycam>>

The bodycam cuts to Officer Bins in the driver's seat of her police cruiser. She is driving down Barstow Rd when Nonomi speaks up from the back seat.

Izayoi Nonomi: "Are you sure you've never heard of Kivotos before?"

Officer Bins: "I've never heard of this 'Kivotos'. You're in Barstow, California."

Okusora Ayane: "...California?"

Izayoi Nonomi: "I recognize the name, but... Ayane, isn't that the name of one of the songs they listen to in Gehenna?"

Okusora Ayane: "Maybe? It sounds familiar, but..."

Officer Bins: "There's a lot of songs with California in the name. Hotel California, California Girls, California Love. But I'm afraid it's not just the name of a song, you're in California right now."

Officer Bins takes a turn onto East Mountain View St.

Officer Bins: "Y'know... I heard, over dispatch, that you ladies had a bunch of guns with you. I don't really want to have to break this to you, but you'll probably have to be detained for the time being, too."

Izayoi Nonomi: "We do? But we didn't do anything wrong."

Officer Bins: "Brandishing is probably illegal, same with open carry. It's California, after all."

Okusora Ayane: "But there was that tank out there, isn't... that a weapon?"

Officer Bins: "To be clear, I'm not accusing you all of anything. The tank is an old museum piece, so it's not really equivilent to something like carrying a gun in public. But I don't think you girls meant any harm."

She then pulls the police car onto Belinda Avenue, where the police station is.

Officer Bins: "We're here. I can fix you something to eat."

<<Narrator>>

As the three juveniles were driven to Barstow's police station, a handful of Barstow's officers were beginning to gather at Rotary Centennial Park after hearing about the minigun. Officer Pierce Osinski, who also works as the armorer for the Barstow Police Department, was soon on-scene cataloging the weapons that had been confiscated from the girls.

<<Brayan Douglas's Bodycam>>

The bodycam starts with Officer Douglas stepping out of his police vehicle and walking over to another officer. That other officer, Pierce Osinski, is hunching over the four items they've confiscated from the girls: A drone with a first-aid kit on it, a handgun, a shotgun, and a minigun. There had also been a large, folded-up ballistic shield. All of them had been moved over to the sidewalk, with the four smaller items in the trunk of the police SUV. The minigun was still laying on the ground. Officer Osinski was examining the shotgun, with its pastel-pink highlights.

Officer Douglas: "So, what kinda gun is that? I can see you're looking at it pretty intently."

Officer Osinski: "It's a Beretta 1301."

Officer Douglas: "Is that significant?"

Officer Osinski: "Only one of the best recent semi-automatic shotguns ever made. It's so good that the military uses it. Who the hell has the money to kit it out like this?"

Officer Osinski places the shotgun back in the trunk, to show the pink decals on it. Officer Douglas then looks down at the minigun on the ground.

Officer Douglas: "What about the minigun?"

Officer Osinski: "Oh, that. I think it's the real deal. The ammo seems genuine, barrels feel like they're made of actual metal, and it's heavy."

Officer Douglas: "Really? That thing's real? And how heavy is it?"

Officer Osinski: "You'll have to help me lift it up once Andy gets here, it's that heavy."

Officer Douglas: "It can't be that heavy."

As the two speak, a white unmarked pickup truck drives up, over the curb, and parks itself partially on the sidewalk. Officer Grady pokes his head out of the driver side window.

Officer Grady: "I'm here. Load it in the trunk."

Officer Grady steps out of the picktruck, after turning off the engine. He looks down at the minigun on the sidewalk.

Officer Osinski: "Andy, you said that the blonde girl, Izayoi, she was carrying this thing on her own?"

Officer Osinski turns to Officer Grady.

Officer Grady: "Yeah, I saw it with my own eyes. She put it back down, and even asked me to turn it off."

Officer Osinski: "Look, no offense, but I'm having a real hard time believing that."

Officer Douglas: "It can't be that heavy."

<<Narrator>>

As the team of three try to lift the minigun, they find it to be much heavier than expected.

<<Anderson Grady's Bodycam>>

Officer Grady was carrying the minigun by the barrel, while Osinski was holding it by the end. Meanwhile, Douglas held it by the middle. The three heaved, and on the count of three, their combined efforts brought the minigun up into the trunk of the pickup truck.

Officer Douglas: "Holy shit, you weren't joking. That girl could lift this?"

Officer Grady: "Yeah. I saw her lift it with her own two hands, no problem!"

Brayan Douglas places his hand on the side of the minigun, as he examines the weapon. He seems to be looking at the markings on the side.

Officer Douglas: "Damn. Huh... it says Abydos on the side."

Officer Grady: "I Googled it, it's some place in Egypt."

Officer Osinski: "Those girls said they were from some school called Abydos, right?"

Officer Douglas pulled out his phone, and began typing on it. After a half-minute of search, he spoke up.

Officer Douglas: "I'm getting nothing. Not anything in the US, at least. And those girls didn't look Egyptian to me."

Officer Osinski: "You'd be surprised, I've met some guys from there that look hella white."

Officer Grady: "But them? I doubt it."

<<Narrator>>

After ensuring the weapons were secured, the officers returned to the Barstow police station. The three lost female juveniles were taken into temporary custody by the Barstow police department, until their parents are found. As of the time of publication, the police, in conjunction with the ATF, have announced that they are still investigating the situation before any charges are filed. If you have any tips or information, please report them to the Barstow Police Department and the ATF's Glendale Division.

I am aware that Barstow officers don't use bodycams, but for story's sake let's pretend that every single ficticious police officer in this story's setting uses a bodycam.

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 11th, 2021, officers from the Madison County Sheriff's Office were responding to a call about a late-night multi-vehicular accident on the westbound lane of Interstate 565, between Old Madison Pike and the Alabama State Route 255 junction. Officer Christop Hills was the first one on the scene, shortly after the accident commenced.

<<Dashcam Footage>>

The video cuts to dashcam footage of the police car driving with its sirens on, going the 'wrong way' down an exit ramp. Several cars and a semitruck could be seen wrecked on the highway ahead, and some of the vehicles were burning brightly. The police car rolls down the exit ramp, and comes to a stop on the shoulder of the road. The door opens, as the officer steps out.

<<Narrator>>

After arriving on scene, he springs into action and immediately reports the severity of the pileup. He'd then run into a particularly unconventional good Samaritan, who was able to rescue a majority of the drivers before he got there.

<<Officer Christop Hills' Bodycam>>

The video jumps to Officer Hills' bodycam. He begins running towards the multiple wrecked vehicles near the middle of the road, grabbing his radio as he does so.

Officer Hills: "Highway is almost completely blocked! We've got several cars on fire, we've got several people trapped. I need EMS and all available units on-scene!"

Officer Hills begins running towards where the bulk of the crashed cars were. He passes by a few vehicles, all of which, interestingly enough, had their driver-side doors ripped off their hinges. He doesn't take much heed of this and continues running, until he's where one of the burning vehicles were.

The bodycam catches sight of a young woman, wearing a long black-and-white dress. Officer Hills stops upon seeing her, as he shines his flashlight over the unidentified woman. Her long, light-blue hair seemed to shine as he did so.

Seconds later, the woman proceeds to tear the door off of the wrecked, burning car. Smoke billows out from the inside, as she tosses the door aside. and Officer Hills lowers his flashlight and runs over, to assist her in pulling out the unconscious driver. The two of them manage to carry the injured away from the vehicle, before gently laying him on the ground.

As they carried him, the camera also catches the pair of brilliant wings on her back, the same pale-blue as her hair. And, above her head, was a yellow, glowing ring-shaped object.

Blue-Haired Woman: "Are you local law enforcement?"

Officer Hills: "W-what?"

Blue-Haired Woman: "There's a few more cars I need to get to, but I've got almost everyone out!"

Officer Hills: "But wait, who are you?"

Blue-Haired Woman: “No time for talk, there are others still trapped!”

She runs off, Officer Hills following her. They get to another car, smoke rising from beneath the hood. The driver within seemed to be trying to open the door, to no avail, as the side had been partially crushed. The blue-haired woman then proceeds to, effortlessly, tear the door off that wrecked cars.

The driver is in visible shock when she does so, and tosses the car door aside. But Officer Hills immediately grabs him by the shoulder.

Officer Hills: "Get out! We need to get you to safety!"

The rescued driver limps out, as the officer helps him stand. Once they get to the grass by the side of the highway, the injured driver lays down.

Blue-Haired Woman: "That should be all of them! I've got two others with me, they're currently treating the other wounded over there."

She points a little way down the grassy embankment. Officer Hills turns to look where she's pointing, and through the darkness, he could see two, glowing rings that seemed to float in midair, with silhouettes beneath them being dimly lit by whatever lighting they had at-hand, likely phone flashlights. One of them was the same shade of yellow as the ring-shape above the blue-haired woman's head, while the other one seemed to be more pink.

Officer Hills: "You sure you've got everyone?"

Blue-Haired Woman: "Absolutely. I checked the vehicles for passengers, too. There aren't many."

The officer catches his breath. He gazes over the burning vehicles on the road, which are beginning to crackle as the fuel tanks ignite. Officer Hills then turns to the woman.

Officer Hills: “Who are you?”

Blue-Haired Woman: “My name is Aomori Mine.”

Officer Hills: "Okay, um... Aomori? Just... just how did you do all that?"

Aomori Mine: "Hm?"

Officer Hills: "The door-ripping-off stuff."

Aomori Mine: "When people are in need, the strength simply comes to you."

Officer Hills seems to shake his head, as he steps over to the shoulder. His squad car, with its lights flashing, is a few dozen meters down the road, also parked on the shoulder of the highway.

Officer Hills: "Well, I mean... I suppose that's a good enough answer. I need to get this road shut down."

Aomori Mine: "Wait."

Officer Hills: "What?"

The officer turns to look at Mine, who was holding a hand up. She was staring down the road, where cars would come from. Mine steps forward, looks at Officer Hills, and seconds later leaps forward, at the officer-

Officer Hills: "Woah-!"

-and manages to push Officer Hills out of the way, before a car swerving into the shoulder to avoid debris smashes directly into her, where Officer Hills had been a moment ago. Officer Hills tumbles to the ground, but the dashcam catches the whole thing as the vehicle that just hit Mine skids for another dozen yards, before crashing loudly into the front of Officer Hills' parked police car. The lights on the police car suddenly flicker out from the damage.

Officer Hills scrambles to his feet as quickly as he could, swearing wildly, and begins running towards the now-wrecked car.

Officer Hills: "Holy fuck, sweet Jesus..."

The officer grabs his radio and begins yelling into it.

Officer Hills: "EMS, I need another EMS here! And shut down the goddamn highway, for Christ's sake! Where the hell is my backup?"

He places his radio back on his vest, panting as he runs towards where Mine was now. His voice cracked as he mutters to himself.

Officer Hills: "Please don't be dead, please don't... Oh Jesus, oh Lord..."

Once he gets to his wrecked police car. Pinned between the front of the wrecked police cruiser and the swerving car is Mine. She is visibly bruised and scraped, but as Officer Hills shines his flashlight on her, he could see that she's still conscious.

Officer Hills: "Are you alright? Don't move, help's on the way."

Mine grimaced, as she glanced down. Officer Hill's flashlight shines over where she's looking, revealing that one of her wings has been pinned between both vehicles..

Aomori Mine: "I'm mostly fine. But... My wing..."

Officer Hills tries to push the car back, fruitlessly, but Mine manages to use her legs to push it away so it was no longer pinning her. She drops to the ground. Officer Hills runs over to see her sitting against the wrecked front of the police car. He flashes his light again across her light-blue wing, to reveal several snapped feathers and the bruised skin of the wing beneath the feathers.

Officer Hills: "Are you...? You need medical attention now, we need to get you help."

Aomori Mine: "I've been through worse, don't worry. Get the people out of this car, please give me a moment to recollect myself..."

Officer Hills: "We need to get you help!"

Aomori Mine: "Help the people in the car first, I insist. I see one of my knights coming over, she'll treat my injuries."

Officer Hills grunts, as if dissatisfied by her demands, but checks the occupants of the vehicle regardless. He helps a woman and a man out of the vehicle, both of whom are shaken but seemingly uninjured, and tells them to rest by the side of the road. As he is doing so, he spots one of the halo-like rings of light on the embankment getting closer. Shining a flashlight over the silhouette that was beneath it, he could see a pink-haired girl in a white coat with pink highlights, carrying what seemed to be an assault rifle slung over her back.

She didn't seem to take notice of Officer Hills, instead running right up alongside Mine.

Pink-Haired Girl: "Captain! I heard a crash! You're hurt!"

Aomori Mine: "Serina, please. I'm fine, treat the others first-"

Serina: "I already have! All their injuries have been treated, it'll just take time for it to heal naturally. Hanae is trying her best to stabilize the man who had a seizure while driving, but she thinks he's going to be okay."

As Officer Hills steps over to look at Serina, who was crouched over Mine, he could see Mine visibly sigh at Serina's insistence.

Aomori Mine: "Fine. But if any others are hurt, you go to them immediately."

Officer Hills: "Wait, miss. You said someone had a seizure?"

Serina: "He was the first to crash, Mine and I saw it happen. It was... terrifying to watch."

Officer Hills: "Medical emergency. That's probably what caused the accident..."

Officer Hills turns to look at the off-ramp near the crash scene, where he sees the red-white flashing lights of firefighters and ambulances. He can also see the flashing blue lights of additional police vehicles.

Officer Hills: "EMS is almost here, you don't need to burden yourself, miss... Serina? That is your name, right?"

Serina continues to examine Mine's injured wing.

Serina: "Yes, it is."

The officer pauses for a moment, as if anticipating his next question.

Officer Hills: "This might be a weird question, but are you two angels?"

Aomori Mine: "Hm? What might you mean?"

Officer Hills: "An angel. From Heaven."

Serina: "I've had patients call me that before, it's quite a nice compliment!"

Aomori Mine: "But an angel from 'Heaven'?"

Serina: "We're the Remedial Knights, if that means anything. We're from Trinity! Surely you've heard of it before? We're one of the largest schools in Kivotos."

Officer Hills: "Kivotos? I've never heard of such a place... And, uh, is that a real gun?"

Officer Hill's flashlight goes over the rifle slung over Serina's back. She glances up at him, after he asks the question.

Serina: "Hm? Are you talking about my Tactical Therapy? Yeah, it is!"

Officer Hills: "Oh. Okay, now, I know you have a right to open carry in this state, but isn't it a little weird to be carrying it around like this?"

Aomori Mine: "Is it so weird? I had my shotgun with me this whole time."

Officer Hills: "You're saying you were carrying a shotgun around?"

Aomori Mine: "It's rather small. Proof Of Rescue is its name. Here, you can see it."

Before Officer Hills could react, Mine tosses him something from where she was sitting. He catches it midair, with a panicked gasp, before looking at it carefully. It was a Winchester Model 1887, but heavily stylized to look rather modern. Rather than a stock, it only had a grip that made it impossible to shoulder. The grips were pink, where the wood furniture would be was instead white polymer, and a logo made of three circles and one triangle, labeled "Trinity" beneath it.

Officer Hills: "Oh! Uh, wait. This is a lever action. I think my grandpa had one. But, uh, wait. Isn't this an SBS?"

Aomori Mine: "An SBS?"

Officer Hills: "It's an NFA designation for a class of shotguns... you don't know? Or, wait, this doesn't have a stock, maybe it'd be an AOW?"

Aomori Mine: "I don't quite understand what you're saying?"

Officer Hills hands the shotgun back to her.

Officer Hills: "I'm just saying that carrying those around might be a little dangerous."

A firetruck finally pulls up along Officer Hills, Mine, Serina, and the wrecked police car, and firefighters begin scrambling out. The bodycam footage fades to black from there.

<<Narrator>>

23 people were injured in the pileup, including the good Samaritan that had been injured on video. Thankfully, there were no fatalities. After securing the scene, the Madison County Sheriff's Department took custody of the three girls involved in the search and rescue, after they claimed they were lost and were unaware of their own whereabouts. Additionally, while the Madison County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that the weapons the girls carried were lawful under Alabama state law, and legal to carry under Alabama's open-carry laws, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives have officially stated that they will investigate all potential violation of Federal Law pertaining to this case, when applicable. In response to this, the Madison County Sheriff's Department placed the girls under protective custody, stating that they will not allow the ATF to investigate, take custody of, or press charges against them.

Chapter 4: 12 November 2021: Yellowstone Park Ranger Confronts Girl Who Had Explosives, Then Attacked By Flamethrower

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 12th, 2021, a Yellowstone Park Ranger was performing a morning patrol on the paved Waterton Valley trail, in Yellowstone National Park, when he spotted a girl standing beside one of the many hot springs pools beside the trail. According to Yellowstone National Park visitor policy, straying from the wooden boardwalk trails is prohibited, and so he stops to figure out the situation.

<<Ranger Lane Towne' Bodycam>>

The video starts with Ranger Towne in his truck, shifting it into park, and stepping out of the park ranger SUV. Steam wafted off the hot pools of water in the chilly November air. Ranger Towne could see someone standing beside one of the hot pools, with what seemed like a bundle of various objects at their feet. It was a bit difficult to see through the steam, but the individual seemed to have a long, white coat draped over their shoulders.

Ranger Towne: "Hey! I know it's early in the morning, but you can't just stray off the marked trails, they're there for your safety."

The ranger continues his way over to the individual, and eventually stepped close enough to identify that it was a girl in a white coat. The camera could catch her brown hair, and something that was swaying behind her, but not much else from the distance she was being recorded.

Ranger Towne: "Hey! Wait, hold on!"

The camera catches the girl tossing something into the pool. Ranger Towne immediately runs up to her, and grabs her by the shoulder. From this distance, a glowing red thing could be seen above her head; same with the two horns that adorned her head.

Ranger Towne: "Girl, who the hell are you and what do you think you're doing?"

Brown-Haired Girl: "I'm Kasumi, of the esteemed Hot Springs Club! What do you think I'm doing?"

Ranger Towne: "I don't know, but what..."

The ranger looks down. At Kasumi's feet is a small stack of what appears to be dynamite.

Ranger Towne: "Did you throw fucking explosives into there?"

Kasumi: "Yep! I'm expanding it! And it's a little chilly out, so a little bit of hot water raining down would feel nice wouldn't it?"

Kasumi proceeds to strike a pose, with her hands on her hips, as though proud of what she had done and expecting the ranger to congratulate her. Instead, he grabs her by the shoulder and berates her.

Ranger Towne: "You actual goddamn idiot. This isn't a swimming pool, it's filled with fucking acid!"

The expression on her face drops from a smug look to one of horror, and the ranger grabs her by the hand and runs.

Ranger Towne: "We need to get to cover!"

They run several paces, and barely make it behind the park ranger truck, before an explosion of water sounds off in the hot springs. Some water sprinkles down on the truck, but as they were taking cover behind it, none of it lands on them. Kasumi peers over the hood of the truck to look at her handiwork, before the ranger wraps his hand around her upper arm.

Ranger Towne: "You're under arrest for that stunt."

Kasumi: "For what? I just wanted to build a hot springs!"

Ranger Towne: "You have the right to remain silent, anything and everything you say will be used against-"

Ranger Towne wrestles with Kasumi, trying to hold both her arms together behind her back as he struggled for the handcuffs at his belt. Surprised at her strength, he proceeds to lift her up a bit, before slamming her face-first into the ground. In response, Kasumi's tail whipped up, slapping against the ranger's face. This takes him by surprise, and he almost lets go of the struggling girl.

Ranger Towne: "Ow! What the fuck?"

The tail whips around again, hitting him in the face. He uses his free hand to try to hold it down.

However, moments later, a flurry of flames engulf the top of the ranger truck, and he stumbles away from the heat, off of Kasumi.

Ranger Towne: "Holy shit!"

Kasumi: "I'm free!"

The ranger turns to Kasumi, who's scrambling to her feet and running in the direction the fire came from. He could see another girl, seemingly in red, with equally-red hair, wielding a flamethrower. The ranger took cover behind the truck as another burst of flame hit the vehicle, setting more of the truck on fire.

After ducking for cover, he notices that the flames from the flamethrower had stopped, and stands back up. The ranger immediately waves his hands up, and tries to chase after the two girls.

Ranger Towne: "Hey! Wait up! Stop!"

However, they've disappeared into the treeline by the time he could get his bearings together. He stops jogging, in defeat, and paces his way back over to the hot springs pool that just had the explosion. The ranger glances down at the neat stack of explosives at his feet, and grabs his radio.

Ranger Towne: "I'm not trained to deal with this... Gonna need to call in a bomb squad."

<<Narrator>>

The explosives were confiscated, and a search from the ground and the air was called by the Yellowstone Park Rangers. Despite the search spanning the rest of the day, the Park Rangers were unable to find those two girls. The search was called off at evening hours, only for those two to pop up again near the Yellowstone Park Service Station. Ranger Vita Braun, who was grabbing food at a vending machine during night hours, would be the one to encounter them.

<<Ranger Vita Braun's Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage starts in the late evening, early night, at the service center. She's standing in front of one of the vending machines, swiping her credit card on it, before she hears some rustling nearby. The ranger glances over at who it is, before witnessing the wanted girl, Kasumi, stumbling out of some bushes. Her clothes are dirtied and torn, mud stained her arms and legs, and she seems to be visibly tired.

Ranger Braun: "Hey, wait- you're the..."

Kasumi: "I-I saw a vending machine here! Is there anything to eat, please? I can't find any stores here or anything!"

Ranger Braun: "Calm down, you just want food?"

Kasumi: "Anything to eat!"

The ranger had a hand on her hip, where her sidearm was, but she momentarily let go of it when Kasumi mentioned that.

Ranger Braun: "Alright. First, I need to know where you are, and your friend, too. You have a friend, right? Then I can get you some food... under a few conditions. Got that?"

Kasumi: "Yeah, I do. Megu! Megu, come here!"

Kasumi turned around and bounded around the corner of the building, calling out a name. The ranger visibly relaxed.

Ranger Braun: "That somehow worked, ho-ly shit."

It wasn't long before Kasumi returned, with another person in tow. While Kasumi was brown-haired, with horns, a tail, and what seemed like a glowing, fire-shaped halo above her head. Megu's hair was a bright red, with an equally bright halo above her. She had a flamethrower with her, but was holding it over her shoulder, to show that she didn't intend to use it.

Ranger Braun: "Alright. So, how about you put your weapons over here, by the wall?"

Kasumi: "Okay!"

Megu: "Alright."

Both of them place their weapons down, a handgun for Kasumi and the massive flamethrower for Megu respectively, Ranger Braun nods then steps over to the weapons, to examine them. She gesturs with her hand, so that they'd step away from said weapons, as she continues to ask questions.

Ranger Braun: "Curious on your names. You two look rather young. Tourists or something?"

Kasumi: "My name is Kinugawa Kasumi!"

Megu: "And I'm Shimokura Megu."

Ranger Braun: "Alright, and first off..."

The ranger hovered her hand above the glowing, fire-shaped 'halo'. Her hand phased through. She sighed, brought her hand back down to her side, and began to mutter.

Ranger Braun: "I need to lay off the coffee... Okay, so what do you two want from the vending machine? I promised you something, after all."

Kasumi glances at the vending machine, a finger on her chin. Her gaze went up, down, and then she turned to look at the ranger with this glimmer in her eyes.

Kinugawa Kasumi: "One of everything."

Megu interjects.

Shimokura Megu: "Two of everything!"

Ranger Braun: "Alright, then... the station better compensate me for this later."

Ranger Braun swipes her credit card in the vending machine's slot, and begins pressing buttons. Moments later, every single snack and candy bar within began to slide out all at the same time. The moment they hit the floor, the two girls grabbed at the snacks, pulling them out by the handfuls into a small pile right outside the vending machine.

Ranger Braun: "Whoa, slow down."

The two girls were already tearing at the packages.

Kinugawa Kasumi: "I haven't had anything to eat this entire day. Oh, and what about a drink, too? I'm really thirsty!"

Kasumi points to the next vending machine, selling sodas and energy drinks.

Ranger Braun: "Oh goodness, not the overpriced Gatorades too... Alright, okay, what do you want from there?"

Kinugawa Kasumi: "All of them!"

Shimokura Megu: "Make it two, another one for me."

Ranger Braun, wordlessly, swipes her credit card and presses the button pad on the vending machine. Out came waters, sprites, colas, energy drinks... Which were all greedily snatched up by the two. Megu immediately popped open one of the energy drinks to begin chugging it down. The ranger makes no comment on how fast they're eating and drinking.

Ranger Braun: "You two are pretty beaten up, did you guys try to walk through the brush or something?"

Kinugawa Kasumi: "We were trying to avoid you guys!"

Megu pauses drinking the Gatorade, to speak.

Shimokura Megu: "And we had that encounter with some elk earlier, too..."

Ranger Braun: "Elk? You mean the moose?"

Shimokura Megu: "I scared them off! But they did catch us by surprise at first. Tossed us right into the air!"

Ranger Braun: "So, you're saying you two were gored by a moose."

Kinugawa Kasumi: "And it hurt, too!"

Kasumi wipes tears from the corner of her eyes, as she scarfs down a second granola bar.

Ranger Braun: "You're in Yellowstone, so running into wildlife is a given here..."

Kasumi took a moment to swallow down a bite of food, before asking a question.

Shimokura Megu: "What's a Yellowstone?"

Ranger Braun: "Yellowstone National Park? In Wyoming of the United States of America?"

Kinugawa Kasumi: "It doesn't sound familiar! Me and Megu are from Gehenna Academy. You've probably heard of it before, right?"

Ranger Braun: "Rings no bells."

Kinugawa Kasumi: "We're one of the largest schools in Kivotos! How haven't you heard of us?"

Ranger Braun: "I've never heard of Kivotos before, either, kid. Hold on, I need to talk with someone for a moment."

The park ranger steps away. She then grabs at the radio on her belt, and holds it up to her mouth to begin speaking into it.

Ranger Braun: "I got those two girls here, they're compliant at the moment. Send a few more officers up, but keep your lights off, so you don't startle them."

Radio: "What silver bullet did you get in them, Vita?"

Ranger Braun: "Food. They were both hungry. I got their weapons away from them"

Radio: "Damn, it was really that easy?"

Ranger Braun glances over at the two, who were still munching on their snacks.

Ranger Braun: "They're... just kids. Teens, sure, but anyone under twenty is a kid to me. I think they're lost, and confused. And there's something up with them..."

Radio: "Lane's gonna owe you a beer for figuring out how to take 'em in peacefully."

Ranger Braun: "And I would not want it any other way."

The park ranger turns to look towards the two girls, who were still making their way through the small pile of snacks. The video fades out to black from there.

<<Narrator>>

The two girls were peacefully brought in. Due to their unusual circumstances and their features, the National Park Service has declined to release information regarding their situation, to preserve their privacy. However, it is known that they are currently compliant with government officials.

Notes:

Initially, I was considering having Kasumi jump into the springs only to get minor chemical burns from the acid, but I'm not really sure how durable BA students are when it comes to chemical warfare. That, and it'd probably be a bit cruel.

Kasumi... is an interesting character. She's very bombastic, but a common theme in Blue Archive (with others, like Hanako) is that the outgoing aspects of them are over-the-top, sometimes to mask their intelligence beneath. I'm led to believe that she's intelligent enough to recognize if a situation arises where she absolutely has to stand down on blowing things up for hot springs, as funny as the meme is.

Chapter 5: 13 November 2021: Woman in Florida Wrestles Alligator Away from Child

Notes:

99.95% of the time, the places in this story will be 100% real, the people fictional. For this chapter, I decided to put a fictional school down in Florida for the purpose of having a convenient place for this chapter to take place.

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 13th, 2021, a call came in from Istokpoga Elementary, located between the town of Sebring and county of Lorida, about a pair of children who had gone missing. A six-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy, both siblings, left the campus through an improperly locked gate. As a result, officers from the City of Sebring Police Department, alongside a multitude of parents and volunteers from the local Spring Lake Improvement District, organized into search parties to look for the missing kids.

<<Officer Trenton Kuvalis' Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage starts with Officer Kuvalis walking alongside the road. Two police cruisers were parked, and ahead of him were multiple men and women. They seemed to be combing through a partially flooded ditch with poles, looking for any signs of the lost children.

Officer Kuvalis: "Anything?"

A nearby civilian responds.

Civilian: "Nah, we would've gone to you if we did find something. Nothing yet, no sign of them."

Officer Kuvalis: "No worries, you guys are doing a good job. Keep searching."

The video then cuts to more bodycam footage of the officer searching through brush. The noise of powerful boat engines could be heard. He turns to look at the nearby lake, where he could see an airboat sweeping through the shallow waters. The narrator speaks over this video.

<<Narrator>>

By that point, the search had gone on for five hours. Several civilian and police teams had taken airboats on the nearby Lake Istokpoga, and a police helicopter was en route to sweep the location by air. Officers on the ground continued the search, but hope was growing thinner by the minute. Officers reconvened to assess their options to search for the missing siblings.

<<Officer Trenton Kuvalis' Bodycam>>

The bodycam then cuts to Kuvalis next to a police cruiser, taking a sip of water from a bottle. Another nearby officer, Officer Hyman Leannon, is sitting in the driver's seat and fiddling with the computer next to the driver's seat.

Officer Kuvalis: "What else do we have at our disposal? Drones and helicopters? You think we can get any of that called in?"

Officer Leannon: "There's a heli coming in, but drones... yeah, we don't have any drone assets."

Officer Kuvalis: "Drones would make this so much easier..."

Officer Leannon: "It would, but we have to work with what we have. The lack of air support is just a setback; I have kids, too. They're older, but... imagine being the mum and dad. I ain't gonna give up."

Officer Kuvalis sighs.

Officer Kuvalis: "Me neither."

Kuvalis then pours some of the water from his bottle on himself. He wipes his head, glances back over at Officer Leannon.

Officer Kuvalis: "What about K-9s? They can smell anything, right? Having one of 'em sniff out the kids shouldn't be too hard."

Officer Leannon: "We haven't had any chance to get another police dog in our department ever since Rooster retired... you've been thinking of the fella, haven't you?"

Officer Kuvalis: "Yeah, hope he's doing well."

Officer Leannon: "I visited the family he's with now. They're good folk."

<<Narrator>>

Though things seemed bleak, there was a glimmer of hope: A civilian volunteer had recovered a backpack in the brush that belonged to one of the children. This allowed officers to narrow down the search parties to an area around the local Arbuckle Creek, which was a particularly swampy patch of land. Additional airboats from a local touring resort were volunteered by civilian staff to assist in the search. Time was running out, however, as it was beginning to get dark.

<<Officer Trenton Kuvalis' Bodycam>>

The camera then cuts to Officer Kuvalis on a dirt road. He was running towards a woman that was holding up a small backpack in her hands. She was also walking towards him, holding it up.

Civilian Volunteer: "I found this! I found it!"

Officer Kuvalis: "This is it? Their backpack?"

Civilian Volunteer: "Yes, yes it is! It's got their name written on it and everything, I found it near the creek."

Officer Kuvalis: "But no sign of them? At all?"

The women points in the direction of the creek. Some men and women could already be seen down there. A few were holding flashlights, to scan the shaded undergrowth.

Civilian Volunteer: "Not yet, but some guys are down there already. And I heard Neibert's airboat company is lending some boats to help, too."

Officer Kuvalis: "Good, we need all the help we can get."

The police officer begins making his way down to the creek himself, alongside the woman who found the backpack.

<<Narrator>>

The individual responsible for finding the children, however, would be someone that the officers least expected.

<<Officer Trenton Kuvalis' Bodycam>>

The bodycam then cuts to Kuvalis on the trail, a police cruiser having been moved onto the road and shining spotlights into the brush. He hears a rustling behind him and would turn around. The camera caught a light-blue glow in the underbrush, seemingly getting closer. The officer proceeds to shine his flashlight in that direction of whatever it might be.

The silouhette of a moderately tall woman was the first thing he could see. Slung over her back was what seemed like a long rifle. Her long, dark hair, done in a ponytail, was equally as dark as her chinese-styled clothing. Several accents of green, from a little piece of jewelry above her chest, to strings holding her dress together, to even her eyes, shone through the light. Most notable was a green-blue, glowing flower-like emblem floating above her head, and two distinctly non-human animal ears that were poking from the top of her head.

However, that was not what the officer seemed to be focusing on. There were two children with her, a boy and a girl. She was carrying the sleeping form of the six-year-old girl in one arm, while the eight-year-old boy was holding onto her other free hand.

Black-Haired Woman: "I noticed the bright flashing lights from quite a distance away. Might I assume you are the police department? I found these two out, and they—"

She didn't get a chance to finish speaking before Officer Kuvalis spoke up and began running towards her.

Officer Kuvalis: "Oh, thank God. Thank God, you found them! Holy shit."

The woman stops speaking, and hands the sleeping six-year-old girl, to the officer. At the same time, Officer Kuvalis is speaking in his radio, giving the good news to everyone.

Officer Kuvalis: "We've found them, both of them! Get an EMS here now!"

Officer Leannon, who was in the nearby police cruiser, would also arrive on-scene, shining his flashlight left and right.

Officer Leannon: "You found them? Holy smokes, I was... They're fine, right?"

The black-haired woman speaks as Officer Kuvalis hands the sleeping girl over to Officer Leannon. The other officer cradles the girl in his arms, as Kuvalis brings his attention to the young boy.

Black-Haired Woman: "They were near the bank of the creek. Both were tired, hungry, and rather dirtied with mud. I did not have any food to give them at that time, unfortunately, but I did have some water. And I did my best to clean them off, too."

Officer Kuvalis turned back to see the woman tug at her dress, to show the several mud stains on it.

Officer Kuvalis: "Thank you, uh... ma'am, what is your name?"

Black-Haired Woman: "I am Sunohara Shun."

Officer Kuvalis: "Alright, miss Sunohara. I have to thank you for what you've done, we've been out here for hours and couldn't find them."

The officer then glances over at the boy, examining him for any injuries. However, he seems to be completely injury-free, despite being exhausted, so Kuvalis turns to look back at Shun.

Officer Kuvalis: "But I have to ask, what's with the...?"

The officer brought his hand up, seemingly pointing above his own head.

Officer Kuvalis: "The thing above your head. That's glowing and all."

The bodycam shifted up, bringing attention to the glowing, flower-shaped symbol above Shun's head. Shun blinks, bringing her own hand up, patting her own head reflexively. The two ears on top of her head twitches.

Sunohara Shun: "Oh, my halo? What about it?"

Officer Kuvalis: "Your... halo. And the ears."

Sunohara Shun: "Why, yes. I see you don't have a halo of your own, but surely that neither the ears are too remarkable?"

Officer Kuvalis: "It sorta is, I haven't seen anyone with a 'halo' above them in... ever. Or the ears, either."

Shun's smile falters at that statement, for some reason.

Sunohara Shun: "I actually wished to ask you about something related to that."

Officer Kuvalis: "What is it?"

Sunohara Shun: "My younger sister. Her name is Kokona. I recalled hearing her voice somewhere around here earlier, and I believe she is lost, too. Just like I am."

Officer Kuvalis: "Wait, wait, wait. You're lost? You're saying you weren't part of the search party?"

Sunohara Shun: "No, not at all. I was not aware of it, and only stumbled upon the children by chance."

Officer Kuvalis: "Okay, um... This is weird. How old is she, your sister?"

Sunohara Shun: "Eleven years of age. She looks just like me and has a halo, too. Except for her hair, it's white rather than black."

Officer Kuvalis: "Well... Haven't seen anyone that looked like that at all."

Shun sighs, her shoulders drooping.

Sunohara Shun: "I was worried about that, when you mentioned never having seen a halo before now. She works at the Plum Blossom Garden in Shanhaijing, if any of those locations are familiar to you"

Officer Kuvalis: "She... works? I mean, I've never been to China myself, so I can't say I've heard of this 'Shanjing' place before."

Before Shun could answer to the remark about China, a bloodcurdling scream could be heard coming from a distant direction. Shun's face pales immediately.

Sunohara Shun: "That's her."

Shun immediately takes off in the direction of the scream. Officer Kuvalis turns back to Officer Leannon, who was tending to the two children. An ambulance had already pulled up behind the men, with paramedics getting out.

Officer Kuvalis: "You take care of those two, I'm following her!"

Officer Leannon: "Wait!"

Officer Kuvalis doesn't stop as he runs after Shun. He calls out to her a few times while chasing after her.

Officer Kuvalis: "Sunohara! Miss Sunohara, don't be so hasty with—!"

The semi-heavy brush gives way to the swampy bank of the creek, where the bodycam could capture three individuals: A massive, ten-foot-long alligator, a white-haired animal-eared child within the jaws of said alligator, and Shun herself, who had just lept on top of the alligator and was wrestling with the animal.

Officer Kuvalis: "Holy fuck—! Get us another EMS... no, two! We need two, child bitten by alligator!"

Kuvalis is already on his radio, witnessing the entire scene before him. Shun gets both of her hands into the mouth of the gator and begins to slowly pry the mouth of the reptile open. It gives a low, gutteral growl as she does so. The moment the jaws were pried just open enough where she could use one arm to push out the girl, whose midsection was being chomped on by the gator.

Radio: "You said two medicals, right?"

Officer Kuvalis could not respond. An excruciating ten seconds passed before Shun managed to get the girl, presumably Kokona, out of the jaws of the alligator. However, in turn, the black-haired woman had to lodge one of her arms rather deep into the gator's mouth. Officer Kuvalis, who was now speechless at this point, took a step forward to pull Kokona away from the gator. He jerks her back when the alligator begins spinning.

It was the signature 'death roll' that alligators typically perform on prey. It was capable of disorienting victims and ripping limbs off. Needless to say, there was only going to be one individual coming out unscathed from this scenario. The water and mud around them splashes in the air during the roll itself. Moments later, the victor emerges from the shallow water.

Shun was the one who was victorious, breaking through the water while grappling the alligator's mouth shut. She proceeded to bring her arms back with the gator still in her hands.  And then, in one fell swoop, the woman proceeds to fling the large reptilian towards the direction of the lake. The bodycam footage tracked it flying through the air for a solid five seconds, before splashing a distance away. The distant alligator then floats back to the surface, as though stunned, before it scurries into the underbrush lining the bank of the lake.

Officer Kuvalis remained there, in shock. However, he glances down, to the silver-haired girl who was presumably Shun's younger sister. She was a mess. Mud was staining her arms and face. However, as the officer examines her, looking for injuries, he realizes that he finds none on her at all. This was despite the fact that there were rips and tears across her clothes.

Officer Kuvalis: "Uh— er, are you hurting anywhere? At all? No need to cry now, sweetie, the gator is gone."

Kokona wiped her eyes, flinching when a bit more mud got in them. Officer Kuvalis removes his coat, and offers the sleeve of his police uniform to her, which she gladly takes to wipe off her face.

Kokona: "I'm... I'm fine..."

She continued to sniffle, and tried to wipe the tears out of her eyes. The end of the officer's sleeve was dirtied rather quickly, but he didn't seem to mind.

Officer Kuvalis: "It doesn't hurt anywhere? Are you sure?"

Kokona: "Y-yes..."

Shun was making her way back to dry land, stepping through the shallow water. The woman looked absolutely beaten up; her hair was a mess, her clothes were basically ruined, and she was absolutely covered in mud, reeds, and other assorted creek debris. However, she seemed to have ths surprising spring in her step.

Officer Kuvalis: "You're soaked. I'd offer you my coat, but..."

The office glanced over at Kokona, who was now using more of the sleeve to clean the mud off her hands and arms.

Sunohara Shun: "It's fine. I can manage."

Kuvalis sighs.

Officer Kuvalis: "Alright, you two are safe. We should make our way back... and holy fuckin' shit, you gave me a scare. Never seen anybody wrangle a gator like that before. The guys at the department aren't gonna believe me till they look at the bodycam."

Sunohara Shun: "It wasn't so difficult, the beast was not as strong as I expected to be. And, I do request you watch your language, please."

Despite still wiping the mud off herself, Kokona glances up at her sister and pouts.

Kokona: "I-I know what bad words are! You don't need to be so mean to him."

Officer Kuvalis: "It's fine, it's fine, she's right. I need to learn to not swear around children... Wait, what do you mean it 'wasn't as strong as you thought it'd be'?"

The bodycam fades to black as the officer, and both siblings, began making their way back to the dirt trail, where the flashing emergency lights shone through the treeline.

<<Narrator>>

Both Sunohara Shun and her sister, Sunohara Kokona, were later transported to a local area hospital for a check-up, and released later due to their lack of injuries. Both individuals stated they had no idea where they were, expressing confusion about Florida's location in relation to where they lived. In response, the City of Sebring Police Department arranged temporary accommodations for them at a local motel while officials worked to sort out their situation. Furthermore, they have not provided any further statements to the media regarding their extraneous features. The Sebring Police Department has confirmed both individuals are under protective custody and has notified the media that any attempts to approach them for questions will be considered harassment, in accordance with their request.

Chapter 6: 14 November 2021: Teen Girl Tries To Steal Millions From Vegas Casino

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

The morning of November 14th, 2021, was routine for Officer Benjamin Allen of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, when he received a call from dispatch about a woman at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and casino who was reporting a missing teenage girl. A young woman, Tsukatsuki Rio, was the one who notified casino staff about her. Officer Benjamin Allen responded to figure out what was going on.

<<Officer Benjamin Allen's Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage starts with him getting out of his patrol vehicle after parking it just off the drive-through drop off area. He rubs his gloved hands together and breathes into them. His breath condenses into a small cloud in front of him as he walks over to the front entrance. A fair-skinned, black-haired woman stands there, wearing attire that would not be out of place in an office. She is wearing a black long-sleeved blazer over a white shirt, along with a particularly short skirt with a black pantyhose beneath. There seems to be a glimpse of what seems to be a strap or a holster on her thigh, but the officer does not mention it if he took notice.

She turns to look at him. Her red eyes were immediately striking, almost getting the officer to flinch.

Officer Allen: "Uh, hello, you're the woman who called for help looking for someone?"

Black-Haired Woman: "Yes, I am Tsukatsuki Rio. I had requested assistance searching for an individual who was under my supervision. I had to ask for assistance from the personnel of this establishment."

She was likely referring to the Mandalay Bay hotel.

Officer Allen: "That's weird, pretty sure all phones should be able to dial 911 even without cell service. Miss Tsuk... uh, may I just call you Rio?"

Tsukatsuki Rio: "That is fine."

Officer Allen: "Alright, great. You want to head inside? It's kinda cold out, and you don't seem dressed for the weather."

Tsukatsuki Rio: "I would appreciate that, yes."

The two proceed to walk into the reception area of the hotel. A few people walking by seemed to glance at the pair, but nothing else. Officer Allen then pulls a notepad from a pocket on his vest, then a pen. He clicks the pen, and opens up the notepad.

Officer Allen: "So, a general description. What is the name of the missing individual, age, appearance what clothing she might be wearing."

Tsukatsuki Rio: "Her name is Kurosaki Koyuki. Fifteen years of age. Her hair is a bright pink done in twin-tails, and she should be wearing a white coat and shirt, with accompanying short skirt and white stockings."

The officer was writing things down, but his writing slowed as she continues to describe the individual in question.

Officer Allen: "Pink hair? Like, pink dyed hair?"

Tsukatsuki Rio: "No, it is naturally pink. I forgot to mention that she usually carries a machine gun on her, too."

The officer lowers his notepad. The bodycam shifts as though he is looking at her, scrutinizing the woman. He seems to be focused on her eyes, specifically. However, only her irises were red; the cornea was as white as marble.

Officer Allen: "You're... not high on anything, are you?"

The officer's change in demeanor confuses Rio.

Tsukatsuki Rio: "I do not understand?"

Officer Allen: "Drugs. Illicit substances. Or you're joking, which I do not really appreciate if you are."

Rio blinks, then narrows her eyes a little. She seems to be offended at the insinuation.

Tsukatsuki Rio: "I am entirely sober, and none of my words are in jest."

Officer Allen raises both hands up to chest level, as if still in disbelief.

Officer Allen: "So when you say a 'machine gun', you mean, like, a toy machine gun, right? A nerf gun?"

Tsukatsuki Rio: "She treats it like a toy, but I assure you, it is a real firearm."

That was when Officer Allen seems to take notice of a particular floating symbol that was floating above the woman the whole time.

Officer Allen: "Okay, wait. What's up with that thing above your head?"

The bodycam shifts up, to show the black ring that hovered above the woman. There were two red symbols within it, which also slightly glowed.

Tsukatsuki Rio: "My halo?"

<<Narrator>>

The officer seems to be putting two and two together. In this instance, it's something that previous bodycam videos on this channel have in common.

<<Officer Benjamin Allen's Bodycam>>

Officer Allen: "Wait, wait. Your 'halo'. Right?"

Tsukatsuki Rio: "Yes...? I see you do not have one of your own. Are you unfamiliar with them?"

Officer Allen: "No, actually, I think I've seen something like this on the news... Hey, you don't also happen to be lost, are you—?"

A loud crash interrupts them, coming from the direction of the casino. They can hear female voices from the direction of the crash, along with shouts from what seem like casino staff. Moments later, a white-and-pink blur passes by, followed by two young women, one with notably violet hair and one with an albino-white hair color.

Tsukatsuki Rio: "That is her. And my two colleagues, Yuuka and Noa, who were assisting my search for her."

Rio glances over, but does not move. Officer Allen is stunned silent, before he realizes that he was here for a reason.

Officer Allen: "Holy shit. Wait!"

The officer then grabs at the radio on his chest, and speaks into it.

Officer Allen: "This is Allen, need backup at the Mandalay Bay! Send three, four units here!"

He clips the radio back to his vest, then points at Rio.

Officer Allen: "You stay here, I'll get this figured out."

He turns back and runs through the hallway towards the casino floor. Once he got there, he bore witness to the floor itself absolutely trashed; slot machines and chairs were laying on their sides, smashed in, or otherwise tossed aside. Most of the patrons had already vacated the area, leaving only the staff who were trying their best to stay out of the way. And in the middle of it all were the ones responsible: Three girls, one with pink hair, one with violet hair, one with silver hair. Their chase seemed to have finally concluded, and as Officer Allen closed in, he could see why.

The purple-haired one, presumably Yuuka, was straddling the pinkette's back, presumably Koyuki. The one being sat on was trying to scramble away, clawing her hands at the carpet. Yuuka, on the other hand, was trying to grab at her arms to restrain. Meanwhile, Noa simply stood off to the side, watching the situation play out. The casino staff now mostly seemed to be staying back from the commotion, especially after seeing the rather obvious machine gun that Koyuki was carrying.

Yuuka: "Rio told us to 'lay low' to figure out where in the world we were, but you just had to go and 'win' the jackpot twenty times, even after they told you to leave...!"

Kurosaki Koyuki: "Then they shouldn't have made their slot machines so hackable—"

Yuuka: "Shut. Up!"

Yuuka wrestles the machine gun away from her, then tosses it over to the silver-haired woman.

Yuuka: "Noa! Take her gun!"

Noa catches it in midair. She looked down at it, then proceeds to lay it against the wall as gingerly as possible. Meanwhile, Yuuka continues trying to hold down the struggling Koyuki.

Kurosaki Koyuki: "You're going to kill me! Suffocate me! You don't think I don't know how much you weigh?"

Yuuka: "Don't say another word."

Kurosaki Koyuki: "What, that you're one hundred kil—gakkk!"

Yuuka seems to apply more pressure to Koyuki's back, which cut off the girl's sentence immediately. Officer Allen, realizing the situation is getting out of hand, immediately steps in to make the arrest. He waves the casino staff off to the side, then approaches the group.

Officer Allen: "Alright, alright. Get off of her, I can handle things from here."

Yuuka glances over at Officer Allen. She seems a little relieved that there was someone with authority nearby, as she gestured him to get closer.

Yuuka: "Apologies for this, she is a bit of a troublemaker... Do you happen to have handcuffs, by the way?"

Though she was smiling, the general impression she was giving implied that she was anything but happy. As she spoke, Koyuki tried one last desparate attempt at a struggle, which Yuuka promptly stopped by slamming her elbow against Koyuki's back, taking the breath out of her. Koyuki begins sobbing.

Noa: "Crocodile tears at this point seem uncharacteristically late for you."

Kurosaki Koyuki: "Shut up!"

The officer then steps over to Yuuka, and places a hand on her shoulder.

Officer Allen: "That's enough, you don't need to hurt her."

Yuuka: "She's been through worse, but I'll leave the rest to you."

Without another (disapporving) word from the officer, he pulls a pair of handcuffs from his belt to apply to Koyuki.

<<Narrator>>

As Officer Allen makes the arrest, more officers arrive on scene shortly after, to secure it. Another officer, Officer Dexter Lucey, then talks with the trio of girls, explaining to them that they will be required to accompany the police for an investigation.

<<Officer Dexter Lucey's Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage starts with the officer standing in front of the three. Yuuka is sitting on a chair, Noa is leaning against the wall, and Rio is off to the left. All three are looking at Officer Lucey's direction. He takes notice of the halos floating above their heads; Yuuka's was a solid ring with a sliver of blue on the inside, while Noa's was white and blue.

The officer mutters under his breath after seeing this.

Officer Lucey: "Okay, holy shit, it's exactly like those viral bodycam videos I've seen."

Tsukatsuki Rio: "Pardon?"

He brushes off the question.

Officer Lucey: "Forget that. Okay, so. Given your circumstances, I'll need to take all of you in. Do you all happen to be carrying firearms?"

Noa: "Yes, we are."

Officer Lucey: "And none of you have CCW permits?"

Noa and Yuuka glanced at each other, then at Rio.

Yuuka: "I've never heard of anything like that before."

Noa: "Are we under arrest?"

Officer Allen: "You are not, miss...?"

Ushio Noa: "Ushio Noa."

Officer Lucey: "Miss Ushio, to answer your question... Okay, you actually are. But I don't want to break out the handcuffs or anything as long as you come peacefully. We'll get a female officer to pat you down for anything else."

Rio's response was immediate.

Tsukatsuki Rio: "We will comply. I carry a firearm in the holster on my thigh. Yuuka, Noa, please relinquish your weapons."

Officer Lucey: "Just putting them on the ground is fine. But don't make any sudden movements."

Both Noa and Yuuka place their firearms on the ground. Noa had a modified handgun with a collapsible stock, while Yuuka places down a pair of submachine guns. Officer Lucey puts on rubber gloves before handling them, picking both of the firearms off the ground.

The bodycam footage fades to black from there.

<<Narrator>>

The four individuals were taken into custody of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, pending an investigation. A spokesperson of the LVMPD says they are looking into this incident, and are collaborating with other police departments to corroborate the appearances of these individuals. The Mandalay Bay Hotel has declined to give a specific comment on the situation, stating "[...] we will do our best to cooperate with law enforcement, given these unusual circumstances." It is unknown if any of them will be indicted, as the LVMPD has not commented on potential charges yet.

Notes:

I feel like these chapters are getting shorter and shorter because there's not much... 'new stuff' to bring up? I fear the novelty might be wearing off. Don't get me wrong, I still have ideas, but until we get to the Second Part (there will be something really special after Chapter 7) it might feel a bit slow.

Chapter 7: 15 November 2021: Girl in Dumpster Accidentally Sets Garbage Truck on Fire

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On the 15th of November, 2021, the Glenmora Police Department in the town of Glenmora, Louisiana, responded to a call about a burning dump truck outside the local Dollar General, just off of US-165. A dump truck reportedly burst into flames after collecting garbage from the Dollar General.

<<Security Footage>>

The security camera footage, captured from a camera mounted on the roof of the Dollar General, shows a dump truck pulling into the parking lot of the store. It proceeds to pull up to the large dumpster just outside the store, and extends its arms to pick it up. The arms lift it up with no issue and dumps the contents of the dumpster in through the top. The top shifts, as the dump truck begins working its trash compactor. However, it pauses. Seconds later, a spray of hydraulic fluid begins hissing from one of the pistons. Several more pistons begin leaking, before the hydraulic fluid suddenly ignites, engulfing the entire vehicle in a fireball.

The dump truck driver jumps out of the now-burning dump truck, as employees of the Dollar General run outside to witness the commotion. One grabs a fire extinguisher, and fruitlessly attempts to spray the fire, while another employee pulls the truck driver away from the burning vehicle.

A lone figure could be seen crawling out from the top of the burning dump truck, and falls to the ground, rolling a few times. An employee runs up to them and immediately douses them with a fire extinguisher.

<<Narrator>>

Officer Joanna Rohan of the GPD springs into action, being the nearest to the scene and the first to respond.

<<Officer Joanna Rohan's Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage immediately starts with the officer getting out of her police SUV. She turns and runs over to the burning dump truck, which was now partially engulfed in flames. She begins waving her arms to the small crowd that has gathered on the sidewalk.

Officer Rohan: "Everyone, make way! Make way! Fire department's gonna be here!"

Multiple individuals, some of them employees of the nearby store but most of them bystanders that stopped by to help, began stepping away from the burning fire truck. A few empty fire extinguishers lay on the ground, near the burning fire truck.

Officer Rohan: "Are there any injuries? Anyone hurt?"

Bystander: "There was someone who was on fire earlier, we helped put her out though!"

The bystander points to a pair of girls, one who was sitting down with her back against a cement divider wall. She had dark-colored hair. The other one was standing, with what seems to be a firearm slung over her shoulder, and strikingly white hair. Both of them were also seemingly outfitted in what was best described as militarized sailor uniforms. The dark-haired girl's clothing, while singed, had various straps and pieces of equipment wrapped around her. The one with white hair had a similar outfit, though with more black pouches and what seems to be drum magazines dangling beside her legs.

Most strikingly were the glowing symbols above her head. Both of the symbols were halo-like and circular.

Officer Rohan steps over to the pair. The white-haired girl glances over, but does not seem to react too much otherwise.

Officer Rohan: "Hey! Are either of you two injured? I see the other girl's clothes are burnt."

White-Haired Girl: "Neither of us are injured. Miyu's clothes were damaged, but she got out without getting hurt."

The white-haired girl spoke rather calmly, looking down at her friend. The girl named Miyu, meanwhile, was sniffling and crying, wiping tears off her face which still had soot on it.

Officer Rohan: "Really? But her clothes are pretty burned."

White-Haired Girl: "I checked. It looks severe, but she is fine. Her halo protected her."

Miyu: "M-m-my clothes were burning!"

The white-haired girl bends her knees and leans over a bi to give a comforting pat to Miyu, who was still crying. Meanwhile, the officer seems to be trying to make sense of what she's been told.

Officer Rohan: "Her... halo?"

White-Haired Girl: "Yes. Her halo."

The officer glances up, to visually confirm that there were glowing, ring-esque shapes floating above the heads of the two girls.

Officer Rohan: "What the hell?"

White-Haired Girl: "I see you do not have one of your own."

Officer Rohan: "Girl, I don't think anyone has 'one of their own', unless you're an angel of the Lord!"

White-Haired Girl: "I'm not aware of who this 'Lord' is, I mostly answer to the GSC."

Now with more questions than answers, the officer decides to ask a few simple ones to get those out of the way.

Officer Rohan: "Alright, uhm... don't know what that is. What are your names?"

White-Haired Girl: "My name is Tsukiyuki Miyako."

Miyu: "Uh... and, um... I'm Kasu... Kasumizawa Miyu."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "We're both members of RABBIT Platoon, of the SRT Special Academy."

Officer Rohan: "Haven't heard of any academy like that before, but..."

The officer whistles, getting a view of Miyako's submachine gun that she carried on a sling.

Officer Rohan: "You open carry, girl? That seems a little heavy."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "The weight is not difficult for me to handle, no worries."

Officer Rohan: "Really... Well, as long as that remains at your back and not pointed at anyone, I'm fine with it. I know you might've heard stories of officers with itchy trigger fingers before."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "I've interacted with the KSPD before. They tend to be professional in all but their security detailing."

Officer Rohan: "KSPD? Haven't heard of them either."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "They have their shortcomings. SRT exists to fill those gaps."

Officer Rohan glances at the white-haired girl, and her kit. The longer she stares, the more ridiculous the armed schoolgirl seemed in light of that assertion.

Officer Rohan: "Okay... must be a hard job."

It's clear from her tone of voice that she doesn't quite believe Miyako.

The officer steps away for a moment as she hears the sound of a fire siren. A large red firetruck pulls into the parking lot, coming to an immediate stop. Firefighters stream out of the vehicle, grabbing at fire hoses to douse the burning dump truck.  This is the moment that Rohan takes to speak into her radio to update dispatch on the situation.

Officer Rohan: "This is Rohan, I'm at the scene. Truck just arrived. Allegedly no injuries, but send an additional medical just in case. I've got something odd to report."

Radio: "Copy, we'll send out a medical. What do you need to report?"

Officer Rohan: "Two girls, both... rather young. They are both open carrying but peaceful. Glowing... halos floating above their heads."

Radio: "Say again?"

Officer Rohan: "Early high schoolers or late middle schoolers that are heavily armed and have halos above them. Both are compliant."

Radio: "Did you mention halos?"

Officer Rohan: "Roger."

Radio: "Okay... oh man. Didn't expect to hear about that here. Ask them if they're lost. If they say yes, take those two into custody. But don't arrest them, emphasize it's not an arrest."

Officer Rohan: "I'm going to have questions, but I'll do it."

Radio: "We'll explain at the office. Word's been getting around of odd... individuals showing up in places."

The officer was still holding onto the radio, as though she was considering asking more questions. Before she could speak again, a man in a yellow vest, presumably the driver of the garbage truck, walks up to her. She latches the radio back at her side and faces him as he begins speaking.

Garbage Man: "Are they okay?"

Officer Rohan: "The girls? Yeah, they're fine. Neither are injured."

Garbage Man: "I don't usually check dumpsters for people in them, and from what I saw, the dumpster's lid was closed so there reasonably shouldn't have been anyone in it."

The garbage man seems worried, so Officer Rohan reassures him.

Officer Rohan: "It's a simple mistake, don't worry. It could've been bad, but nobody's seriously hurt."

Garbage Man: "Can I apologize anyway?"

Officer Rohan: "I don't see why not."

Both officer and garbage man make their way to the two girls. Miyu is still sitting down, and Miyako nods at them as they approach. She seems to recognize the truck driver.

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "You were the one driving the dump truck?"

The garbage man places a hand on the back of his head.

Garbage Man: "Yeah, sorry about that. I don't really check dumpsters for people in them since, well, people don't normally hang out in dumpsters."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "Apology accepted. Both of us are perfectly fine. Please be more careful next time, though."

Garbage Man: "Yeah, I will. And, uh, look. Don't hang around in dumpsters, alright? If that ever happens again, I'll still feel bad. And I'll feel even worse that you didn't listen to what I said."

The white-haired girl nods.

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "Understood."

As the garbage man steps away, Officer Rohan then had a question to ask the two girls.

Officer Rohan: "What were you doing in the dumpster anyway... Miyu?"

The girl, who had stopped crying but was still wiping tears off her face, responded.

Kasumizawa Miyu: "I... I was just looking for something to eat..."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "We exhausted our rations yesterday noon."

The officer then pointed at the two.

Officer Rohan: "Okay. Next time, don't go dumpster diving. I can buy something for you here. Wait... Do you two even have someplace to stay?"

Miyako and Miyu glance at each other. Miyako gives a short nod, then answers the question.

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "We do not, unfortunately."

Officer Rohan: "Okay, that's a problem... Alright. I'm going to say that I am not arresting you, but I've been given orders to take you into custody if you say you're lost. Think of it as... protective custody, I can only guess we're making arrangements for you."

Miyako glances at Officer Rohan. There is a notable degree of distrust that can be picked up from her eyes.

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "For what reason?"

Officer Rohan: "I'm not sure myself, but they said it's important—"

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "Who is 'them'?"

Officer Rohan: "Guys up top. Don't get me wrong, there's something odd about this too, but if anything about this makes you wary, which I can see, I'll advocate for you. And your friend Miyu here, too."

Miyako glances down at Miyu, then back at the officer. She closes her eyes and gives a slight sigh.

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "I would... contest, but we are short two people, and we don't know where they are. On top of the fact that we are lost, our supply situation is... dire."

Officer Rohan: "You're missing people?"

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "The missing two are Sorai Saki and Kazekura Moe, does either name sound familiar?"

The officer taps at her forehead, as if trying to think.

Officer Rohan: "Sorry, neither sound familiar. I can ask the rest of the PD to keep an eye out, if that works? Just give me a general description, how they look."

Tsukiyuki Miyako: "I have pictures of them on my phone."

Officer Rohan: "Perfect, that works."

The bodycam footage fades out, as Rohan and Miyako began walking over to the officer's squad car.

<<Narrator>>

Both individuals were checked at a local area hospital, and released after it was confirmed they were uninjured. The Glenmora Police Department is currently accommodating the two, and have opened an investigation into their identities, their circumstances, and the missing two individuals that were supposed to be accompanying them. No charges are reportedly being filed against any individual involved in this incident. The GPD has reached out and requests anyone who knows anything to call their number, which will be included in the description of the video.

Notes:

The real reason Miyu wasn't injured by the garbage truck is not because of her durability, but because the hydraulic press within the truck simply did not notice she existed and passed right through her. The spontaneous combustion of the garbage truck moments later was a coincidence.

I forcibly conscripted two Real Kivotos SuperPatriots (beta readers) to fact-check my characterization. Speaking of the story as a whole rather than just this one chapter, if aspects of certain characters seem a bit OOC, it likely is intentional in some way. I bring this up because, in this chapter, Miyako isn't as distrusting of adults as she is in the story. SRT is only dissolved shortly after the GSC Prez disappears, which is what led to her mistrust to begin with. If she is brought over before the dissolution, or if she is brought over only shortly after it happens (before those feelings of anger can really fester), I can imagine this being realistic.

Chapter 8: Interlude 1

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Sergio might’ve not been the picture-perfect example of an FBI agent at that moment, as he tossed foam basketball after foam basketball into a small net hung up on the door of the office.

He missed each and every single one, and groaned after every miss. The man glanced over at his desk, where there was only one ball left. He picked it up, and actually took some time to aim it.

Just as he tossed the last one, the door opened. It likely would’ve made it had the door not opened, but now, the foam ball proceeded to harmlessly bounce off the woman who just stepped in. She flinched as it struck her, as the ball bounced behind the water cooler. The female agent then gave a disapproving stare at the man. Sergio was not deterred.

“Meryl, back so soon?” he asked. “Oh, and can you toss me those back, too?”

Meryl stared at the man, then leaned down to pick up three of the foam balls. She tossed them back at him, and he caught every single one.

“What about the one behind the cooler?” he asked.

“Go get that one yourself. Jackass,” was her immediate reply.

Meryl stepped into the office, and placed her suitcase on her desk. She continued speaking, as she unclasped the suitcase open.

“And to answer your earlier question, I was up in NYC conducting an interview. Have you seen the news lately? Or that YouTube channel, Blue Cam Archive ?”

Sergio paused.

“Oh, that?" he asked. "Wait, you’re on that case now? Damn. I’m a little envious.”

“You picked that up rather quickly,” Meryl said, as she pulled some documents from a file on her desk. “Can only expect that from the best. Of course, whenever you’re not slacking.”

Sergio shrugged. “Never hurts to be relaxed.”

“Only reason you haven’t been reassigned or fired is because you’re irreplaceably good at your job.”

“That’s a them problem, not me. Anyway, what were you in New York for? The whole subway mess?”

“Yes. I was interviewing that young lady who was in the subway car. NYPD has passed onto doing the forensics to the FBI, since even they’re baffled. I have to be honest...”

Meryl placed a stack of folders from her briefcase onto the table.

"...Even I have no leads," she admitted.

“Huh,” Sergio replied. "Must be a pretty hard one if even you can't find anything."

"For all accounts and purposes, the train car practically teleported into position," the woman said. "I can find absolutely nothing. Had a few shaky bits of evidence sent out for the specialized departments to analyze, but I doubt they'll be able to find anything."

“And how about the lass? The girl you interviewed. Weird, suspicious, anything like that? I know you’re a good judge of character.”

“She was... don’t get me wrong, she was very kind, and very sweet. She reminds me of... my young daughter, I have to admit. But she had a bit of a tendency to side-step my questions.”

Sergio raised an eyebrow.

“Did you call her out on that?” he asked.

“I didn’t confront her about it, no. She was reserved enough when answering, I did not want to give her any reason to retreat from me.”

“Huh. And... did she have a halo? Like in those videos...?”

“She was aware of them, yes.”

Sergio leaned back in his chair, and gave a whoof

“Did you touch it?” he asked. “Or wait, that sounds wrong, did you ask her to touch it? Did she give any comments on whatever else was happening? What did she say about hers?”

“One question at a time,” Meryl replied. “She didn’t have much to say about it, actually. I had to sketch it out for her. She didn’t know what it looked like, which was odd. I tried to touch it, with her permission, but it was definitely not a solid object.”

"So we're dealing with something supernatural. Can't believe I'm ever saying that in my career," the man said. “I think this might be above our pay grade."

"There's nobody above our pay-grade to handle this, so it's up to us."

"You're not wrong. What else did you get from her?”

Meryl was flipping through the sheets of paper in her file.

“Not much. She was asking about a specific man, but was also dodgy trying to describe him. She just said he was someone of importance, and that she had to meet him. Couldn't give me a name. Or, didn't. At this point, I don't know if she knew or not.”

Sergio had a hand on his mouth, tapping his fingers against his cheek.

“Human trafficking, you think?” he asked.

“Everything about it is too conspicuous for that, the train car and her appearance. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders. Too smart to run into something like that. And she’s not an isolated incident, either. You have any idea where it’s happening also?”

Sergio tapped the keyboard of his computer.

“Mostly all over the US, it seems,” the man replied. “Barstow, Yellowstone, Huntsville, Vegas... Well, let's start there."

Meryl nodded. "Yes, we can. It's not going to be easy, though."

"What’s the issue? Just collect ‘em, figure out what the hell is up.”

The woman sighed.

“That’s the thing," she said. "The sheriffs down at Huntsville don’t trust us. The chucklefucks at the ATF got too uppity saying they wanted to arrest one of them, and now we can't step foot into the county without lunatic protesters with signs blocking us. Hell, I've even heard rumors that the sheriff's office is willing to deputize citizens to protect those 'angel girls' if push comes to shove. You hear that?"

"They're now the 'angel girls', is that what they're calling them?" Sergio asked.

Meryl frowned. "You've seen that video, the one with the winged girl tearing doors off cars to rescue people?"

The man scoffed.

"Yeah, I seen it. But that doesn't mean we don't have authority. Of course, we know how this conversation goes," he muttered. "I'll go on about how we technically have jurisdiction here, and that we should send Federal forces to scare these protesters into backing down, and then you say something about how we should not be so heavy-handed, and that it'll reflect poorly on us."

"And that is precisely why you are not in any position to command anyone who can carry a gun," Meryl said, without looking up from her paperwork. "I appreciate your work, not so much your gung ho attitude."

Sergio shrugged. "Agree to disagree. I like being direct."

"Ultimately, I'd rather not do something that'd get me gunned down by an Appalachian hillbilly carrying his grandfather's squirrel hunting rifle. We're inundated with threats on the internet, and an ATF office in Huntsville was egged recently.”

“Egged? In this economy?”

“I’m being serious.”

Sergio snortled.

“They’re just scared the FBI might do something to these 'angels',” the man muttered. “But we’re not going to disappear them into Area 51, are we?”

“No, but try telling them that. They won’t even listen, do you think they're gonna trust us?”

“Honestly, If I knew I were the one running an investigation, I wouldn’t trust myself either.”

“Shut the hell up.”

Sergio scoffed at her offhand statement, then began fishing in his miniature cooler for something. He grabbed a soda from it, then glanced at Meryl.

“Cola?” he asked.

“No thanks.”

Sergio popped the soda can, and took a sip.

“How’s your husband, by the way?” the man asked. “He’s a teacher, right? No, wait... I remember you saying he got promoted to a school principal. Haven’t heard you talk much about him lately, he doing well?”

Meryl went quiet, but for just a moment.

“You don’t know?” she asked, glancing back.

“Did something happen?” the man asked.

Meryl seemed hesitant to say anything. After opening her mouth and failing to speak, she finally broke the news.

“He passed away a month ago, in a school bus accident.”

Sergio stopped talking. His mouth was agape.

“Oh. Oh my god, I’m sorry,” he said. “I was away that week, so I didn’t hear—”

“You don’t need to apologize.”

Sergio placed the can back on the table, and gave a concerned look at the woman.

“Still, why are they having you work less than a month after his... well... I mean, that sounds kinda inhumane, shouldn't you be on leave?” he asked.

“They didn’t call me up. I volunteered to come back. When I saw that girl from the subway on the news, I had this... hunch in me. You see?”

“A hunch isn’t very scientific. You should be there for your daughter.”

Meryl looked down, seemingly in shame.

“I know,” she murmured. “I know it’s selfish of me, getting some weird hunch and coming back from my time off. My husband, he was always better with the little ones than I have. I’m scared I might be growing distant from my own daughter—”

Sergio hold both his hands up, and proceeded to interrupt her.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, don’t need to step on the self-flagellation train here. I bet you’re a wonderful mother, I didn’t wanna call that into question. Just, I’m not all that sure if coming back to work is all that great of an idea.”

“I... I’m aware. Even then... it wouldn’t stop bugging me.”

“Well,” Sergio said. “I trust your judgement, so I can’t give you much advice on that. Or rather, I can’t give you much advice I’d trust myself.”

Meryl sighed. With the documents she plucked out of her folders in her hand, she made her way back to the door with her suitcase in the other hand.

“Well, I've got a busy week ahead," she said. "I asked to be on the case with the girl, but they also want me to take a look at what's happening down in Alabama, so I'll basically be in two places at once. I'll be flying quite a bit, but since said flights are on their dime, I suppose I won't complain."

"Don't overwork yourself."

"I'll make it work out. Since I actually work for my pay, unlike you at times."

Sergio shrugged. "They wouldn't be payin' me if they couldn't afford someone of my caliber."

Meryl gave a huh, then said, "Also. If something absolutely stupid happens down in Huntsville, just remember, it wasn’t me.”

“Yeah, I know you know better. Make sure you wrangle the guys down south. The ATF especially.”

“Oh, I will. And...”

Meryl glanced back at Sergio.

“I changed my mind, may I have a cola?”

“Sure.”

Sergio tossed the cola to Meryl. She snatched it in midair, gave a nod of thanks, then stepped out of the office.

Chapter 9: 16 November 2021: Girls Carrying Rifles Into Library of Congress Shot At by Capitol Police

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 16th, 2021, calls came in about two unknown armed individuals within the Library of Congress. The building was promptly evacuated by the civilian staff on-site. Officers Tony Flatley and Domenica D'Amore were the first on the scene immediately.

<<Officer Domenica D'Amore's Bodycam>>

The bodycam starts with Officer D'Amore running into the Library of Congress. She stops when she sees a library staff member on the side, and asks some questions.

Officer D'Amore: "Is there anyone else still inside?"

Staff Member: "Not that I'm aware of. Be careful!"

Officer D'Amore: "I will."

Next to her is Officer Flatley, who unholstered his handgun the moment they walked past the doors of the library.

Officer Flatley: "They said that it was near the center of the library. Probably in the rotunda."

Officer D'Amore: "Yeah. I'll cover the right, you take the left."

She unholsters her firearm and proceeds to scan the hallways as they both advance forward. They soon made it to the rotunda of the library, where they could see one individual who was sitting at one of the tables.

What was most notable about the girl was her long dark hair. She stood up upon seeing the two officers, revealing that she wore a sweater with a school uniform beneath, and a particularly long skirt. A glowing ring was floating above her head, though from this angle it seems like it might've been a reflection off the lighting in the room. However, what caught both officer's attention was the rifle that was slung over her shoulder. She grabs it quickly, holding it by the stock.

The officers react accordingly, and both aim their handguns at her.

Officer Flatley: "Put your weapon down! Put it down now!"

The girl appears to be confused. There was a tense expression on her face, and she freezes. The rifle was still in her hands, but aimed at the ground.

Officer D'Amore: "Drop the gun!"

She doesn't drop the gun. Instead, she seems to be gripping onto it tighter, and was moving to hold it it closer to her body.

Officer Flatley: "Don't raise it. Don't—!"

Within moments, the girl was immediately met with a flurry of gunfire. After firing a few times, the officer lowers her arms to reveal that the girl is still standing, though having staggered back a bit. She was still holding her rifle, now levelled at the two, and fires once.

Officer Flatley staggers back. Both officers proceed to dump their magazines into the girl again, who stumbles to the floor. In turn, Flatley leans down and takes cover behind a desk. Officer D'Amore kneels next to Officer Flatley and grabs at her radio.

Officer D'Amore: "Shots fired, shots fired! Officer hit!"

She immediately looked over the bullet hole in Officer Flatley's vest, but noted the lack of blood. He was breathing quickly.

Officer D'Amore: "Any issues breathing?"

Officer Flatley: "I'm just panicked as fuck."

Officer D'Amore: "That means it didn't go through. You're good."

As Officer Flatley lays on the ground, Officer D'Amore peers over the desk. She can see another girl with striking orange hair running up, her attention likely caught by the sounds of gunfire. This girl had on a white skirt and shirt, attire that was likely a uniform. She could also see the glimpse of another rifle that was slung over the new girl's shoulder. The officer ducks back behind the table again.

Officer D'Amore: "Shit! There's another one of them. Who the hell are these girls?"

The two can hear the conversation between the girls.

Orange-Haired Girl: "Ui! Are you alright?"

Ui: "Ugh... yeah?"

Orange-Haired Girl: "Why did they just shoot you like that?"

Ui: "I don't know, they were just... shouting at me, and..."

Officer D'Amore was still kneeling there, but was listening in on them. Both officers glanced at each other. They then began whispering to one another.

Officer D'Amore: "They're confused, I think."

Officer Flatley: "No shit? We're confused too, what are two girls like that doing here?"

There was a moment of silence before the female officer continued speaking.

Officer D'Amore: "I'll... try to talk to them."

Officer Flatley: "Domenica, you're fucking crazy."

Officer D'Amore: "We hit the first girl with two mags worth of ammo and it did fucking nothing. What other ideas do you have?"

She loaded a fresh magazine into her handgun regardless. After a lack of an answer from Flatley, D'Amore began to stand up slowly. This catches the attention of the orange-haired girl, who grabs at her rifle and levels it at the officer.

In response to this, the officer places her handgun on the table, and raises both her hands to head-level, to show she wasn't a threat.

Officer D'Amore: "What's your name? Mine is Domenica. Please, just put the gun down, I don't want anyone else hurt. Okay?"

The girl seemed to hesitate, seeing the officer place her firearm on the table. She lowers her rifle in turn.

Orange-Haired Girl: "I'm... Endo Shimiko. I'm confused, where...?"

She trailed off, and glanced around within the building. It had gone almost deathly silent.

Officer D'Amore: "What are you two doing here?"

Endo Shimiko: "I don't quite know. But this place is a library, right? I was exploring a bit after finding myself here, before I heard Ui getting shot at..."

Shimiko continues to look around as she speaks. She glances back at the officer.

Officer D'Amore: "Are you lost? What are you two doing here with guns?"

Endo Shimiko: "Yes, we're lost but, uh... doesn't everyone carry a gun?"

<<Narrator>>

As Officer D'Amore calms the girl down, two additional responding officers, Officer Carlos Kilback and Officer Sheridan Durgan, enter the building from a different direction. They quickly close in on the scene, armed with a patrol rifle and shotgun.

<<Officer Carlos Kilback's Bodycam>>

Radio: "Shots fired, shots fired! Officer hit!"

Officer Kilback grabs his rifle from the trunk of his police vehicle, and immediately runs through one of the side doors of the building. To his front and left is another officer with a shotgun, Officer Durgen. The two make their way towards the rotunda of the library, where they hear a gunshots. They immediately proceed to hasten their pace.

Officer Kilback pauses when he passes by a bookshelf and witnesses the encounter in question. He sees an orange-haired girl and one officer, but nobody else. It seems the other officer and the black-haired girl are on the ground, obscured by the tables and chairs. Officer Kilback takes note of the bright orange hair of one of the girls, and the oddly-colored firearm that the girl is holding. From his angle, it seems like she's still pointing it at Officer D'Amore. So, without hesitation, he aims at her and pulls the trigger of his rifle rapidly. Next to him, Officer Durgan begins firing his shotgun, racking the slide of his shotgun with every shot.

Shimiko seemingly tries to turn around after hearing the first shots, but she stumbles to the ground with each successive round that hits her. Dust and wood shards were kicked into the air as the table and chairs in the crossfire, right behind Shimiko, were shredded apart. The bodycam barely caught Ui, who was almost laying on the ground, her back against the leg of another table, covering her head from all the debris flying around.

Officer Kilback's gun clicks when he pulls the trigger again. He swiftly ejects the spent magazine and loads a new one in, as he walks towards where Shimiko had fallen. He begins yelling more commands.

Officer Kilback: "Stop moving! Let go of the weapon! Let go of the weapon now!"

Shimiko's rifle had fallen to the side, away from her. Despite that, after precisely one second, the officer continues firing at the girl. Shimiko, who is now on the ground and still visibly moving, is shielding herself with one arm while the other kept her upright on the ground.

It only stops when the female officer yells out.

Officer D'Amore: "Cease fire, cease fire! I said, cease fire!"

<<Officer Domenica D'Amore's Bodycam>>

Officer D'Amore's bodycam catches the two other officers coming in fron the right just as they begin shooting. The woman stumbles back, surprised by the shooting. She watches as Shimiko stumbles under the hail of rifle and shotgun rounds. Officer D'Amore immediately crouches down to take cover, before realizing that it wasn't Shimiko who was shooting.

She glances back up, to see that it was only the two officers that just arrived who were shooting. One of them shouts commands.

Officer Kilback: "Stop moving! Let go of the weapon! Let go of the weapon now!"

As Officer Kilback walks up to the downed girl, the female officer beings yelling to cease fire.

Officer D'Amore: "Cease fire, cease fire! I said, cease fire!"

The other two officers echo her words, and the shooting stops.

Officer Kilback: "Cease fire!"

Officer Durgen: "Got it, ceasing fire!"

Officer D'Amore ran forward, to where Shimiko had fallen, while cursing out the other two officers. The orange-haired girl comes into view of the camera as the female officer pushes past a chair that had been splintered by a bullet.

Officer D'Amore: "Fucking shit, you goddamn — I managed to talk her down, and you all..."

The officer's words trails off, as she examines Shimiko's condition. The girl is still on the ground, seemingly a little shaken up. She lowers her arms and glances at the female officer. There is a slightly dazed look in her eyes, but other than that, Shimiko was almost entirely unscathed, save for a few scuffs on her clothes. There wasn't even any blood.

Officer D'Amore: "Are you... are you alright?"

The other girl, the one with darker hair, speaks up.

Ui: "Tell me when the shooting stops, please..."

Officer D'Amore: "But... okay, holy fuck, you're... both completely fine?"

The two other officers that were shooting at Shimiko step up. They glance down at her and seemingly had handcuffs ready, but they too were visibly shocked at her lack of injuries.

Endo Shimiko: "I'm — I'm fine. I've been through worse."

It took a moment, but the officer snaps out of it and grabs a pair of handcuffs dangling from her belt.

Officer D'Amore: "Okay, alright. Put both your hands behind your back, I'm going to have to take you both into custody."

Ui immediately retorts.

Ui: "B-but you people were... the ones shooting at us."

Officer Kilback immediately speaks up.

Officer Kilback: "Look, kid. You both brought guns into a federal building. What the hell did you expect otherwise?"

Endo Shimiko: "Ui here, she likely just panicked. Please forgive her, she's not that good with people!"

Officer Kilback: "What kind of excuse is that? Once the guns come out, there's usually only one side that walks out of there alive. I'd rather it be me."

Ui's expression shifts to one of shock, after she interprets what he just said.

Ui: "You were... shooting with the intent to kill...?"

The male officer seemed like he was about to respond, but Officer D'Amore holds a hand up and stops him before he could.

Officer D'Amore. "Carlos. Shut up."

The two girls were cuffed and lifted to their feet with little resistance. Only now does one of the officers remark on their glowing halos that float above their heads, as he points at them.

Officer Durgen: "What are these?"

Endo Shimiko: "They're our halos. It's what protects us from bullets?"

Officer Durgen: "Really? Wait, wait, in actuality?"

Shimiko cocks her head, even with her arms cuffed behind her.

Endo Shimiko: "Do you not know what they are?"

Ui: "They did say they were shooting to kill us, after all..."

Officer D'Amore: "Enough of that. I recommend you stay silent, girls. And you guys, don't talk to them. They don't know their rights."

Officer D'Amore was pointing specifically to the other officers with the last two sentences. As she brings her hands back to her side, it brushes up against something feathery on Shimiko's head. The officer takes a closer glance at what it was, and notices that Shimiko has orange-yellow feathers where her ears should be. It looks like a miniature wing, with one on each side of her head where her ears should've been.

Officer D'Amore: "Are those...?"

Endo Shimiko: "What is it?"

Officer D'Amore: "...It's nothing."

Ignoring it, the officer then begins reading out their Miranda Rights.

Officer D'Amore: "Okay, so. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law..."

The bodycam footage then fades to black there.

<<Narrator>>

The site was soon secured by additonal police units, the FBI, and the ATF. The Libary of Congress will be closed to the public pending an investiagion, clean-up, and repairs. After the two girls were detained, they were checked into the Washington Hospital Center with very minor injuries, and promptly released into police custody. In addition to this, Officer Tony Flatley was also brought to the area hospital, and released after a checkup revealed no injuries. All four officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. Charges have not been announced yet. The FBI declined to comment, stating that they "will not comment on pending investigations".

Shots Fired at Library of Congress

News Anchor: "We've just got breaking news in, that there has been a shooting at the Library of Congress. Information is still coming out about it, but a recent statement from the US Capitol Police has stated that the situation is "currently under their control" and has been mostly resolved."

The video cuts to B-roll footage of the outside of the Library of Congress, with several police vehicles, firetrucks, and ambulances around the building.

News Anchor: "However, recent bodycam footage released by an online channel called Blue Cam Archive is shedding light on exactly what happened, and the circumstances are leading to more questions from the general public than answers. We have reached out to both the FBI and Capitol police for comment, for which they've provided none so far."

LIVE: 'I just heard a bunch of bangs' - Witnesses Recount Capitol Shooting

ABC News ✔

The video starts with civilian camera footage of police and ambulance crews driving down the Washington D.C. streets towards the Library of Congress. There is an overwhelming response of law enforcement and medical units to the library, with the immediate area seemingly closed off to the public.

The video then cuts to a witness interview, an employee of the library.

Witness 1: "I saw this girl there, she had this gun with her and someone yelled 'gun', that was when people began getting out of there as quickly as possible. I didn't hear any gunshots myself when evacuating, but I'd rather not stay by to find out."

The footage cut to another witness.

Witness 2: "Yeah, I saw all these cop cars moving, firetrucks and ambulances, and the first thing I thought was 'Holy [bleep]'. I mean, that's never a good thing."

Some footage rolls of what seemed like SWAT or heavily armed police forces walking into the Library of Congress. It then cuts to the third witness.

Witness 3: "There were people running out, screaming about a shooter or something, and I decided to follow them. I saw some police pulling up to the front of the building, and that was when I realized that this was the real deal."

The final ending footage rolls of an FBI evidence truck driving up to the building.

Capitol Police Accused of Misconduct After Library of Congress Incident

MSNBC ✔

News Anchor: "Many individuals are taking their opinions to the internet to express outrage at the released bodycam footage of law enforcement handling of the now-dubbed "halo girls", the two who were arrested carrying firearms in the Library of Congress. The shocking footage that was released to the public recently, showing officers gunning down one of the girls on bodycam video. The video itself is not graphic, but we've censored it for viewer discretion."

The video then cuts to Carlos Kilback's bodycam, showing his perspective as he shot at Shimiko with his rifle several times. The girl herself was blurred out, and the audio was muted.

News Anchor: "Civil rights activist Warren Baumbach stated, ' The female officer involved in the incident ought to be commended for her ability to deescalate the situation. However, the excessively violent reaction of the other two officers is unacceptable.' He then went on to state that he had no comment on the fact that the 'halo girls' had survived getting shot at, multiple times, other than being glad that nobody was fatally injured."

The footage then cuts to a small-scale protest of about a dozen individuals outside a Washington DC police station. The protest itself was peaceful, some of them holding signs with slogans about police accountability.

News Anchor: "Meanwhile, some individuals have taken to the streets in protest of police procedures, some stating that the officers involved 'should be fired' rather than placed on paid leave. Democrat representative Jovai Anderson has stated, 'A similar eyebrow-raising incident had occured within California recently, but our officers in Barstow were able to peacefully resolve the situation. All encounters between these unusual haloed individuals and law enforcement should follow that example'."

'A Failure of Security' - United States Capital Police Under Scrutiny Following Shooting

Fox News ✔

News Anchor: "—to bring you back into this conversation, we've just been talking about the current scathing criticism being directed at the US Capitol Police. Many questions are being asked, hard questions about how such a security oversight occured to begin with."

The screen then shifted to a tweet, with the words on the tweet itself getting highlighted.

News Anchor: "Online political pundits Commentator Bradley Allins has said, quote, 'There is nothing more paramount than the security of Washington DC. If we cannot hope to secure even our own capital against schoolgirls with guns, then what good is all the money we spend on security for?' End quote. Other pundits and even politicans have voiced similar opinions. Raymond Fisher, a Republican representative from Louisiana, even claimed that a similar incident had occured within his constituent county, though it was resolved peacefully."

The video then cuts to B-roll footage of the White House.

News Anchor: "Critics have pointed fingers at the current administration's policy for police funding. Of course, most of this is following the tightening of law enforcement budgets due to the anti-police protests the previous year, but now such decisions are being heavily scrutinized. The White House has not yet offered a comment on the Libary of Congress incident, but have stated that they have full faith in law enforcement and FBI procedures to investigate such situations."

Expert Weighs In on Firearm Used By Capitol Library Shooter

CBS News ✔

450k views · 7 hours ago

News Anchor: "Good evening, this is your host, Jim Miller. The recent Capitol Library Shooting has caught the country's attention, with some of the finer details being heavily scrutinized by the public. Joining me now is Andy Hermiston, a firearms expert, who we will be talking with tonight."

The screen splits in two, with Jim Miller on one side and a video conference call of Andy Hermiston on the other. His name was labelled

News Anchor: "Hello. Hope you're having a wonderful day."

Andy Hermiston: "You too."

News Anchor: "So, Andy. You've seen what's happened in the Capitol recently, at the Library of Congress. Tell me what you know about the specific firearms that the shooters used, I know the internet has been up in a frenzy about that."

Andy Hermiston: "Yeah, it's very interesting. One of them, the one in the footage with the orange hair, she was using a SCAR rifle. Which is weird, don't get me wrong, but I'm not too much a modern gun guy. What caught my attention however, was the gun the other girl had. It's quite an obscure model, if you can pull some footage up?"

Jim Miller's side of the screen faded into a still frame from the body cam footage.

News Anchor: "Is it? Tell us more about it."

Andy Hermiston: "The gun she was using is a De Lisle Carbine, which is a bit of a rare gun. In fact, I have one right here."

Andy picks up a firearm that was laying at his side. He opens the bolt, to check that it's unloaded, then holds it up for the camera to see.

Andy Hermiston: "It's a bolt-action rifle made during World War 2 that takes 9mm pistol rounds. Originals are impossible to find. You can get reproductions, they exist. But the one she had was... very heavily decorated, based on what I could see."

News Anchor: "And what makes this gun stand out compared to other firearms you've seen?"

The firearms expert then places it back down by his side.

Andy Hermiston: "From the footage I've seen, and how quiet it was compared to the officer's guns, I think it was suppressed. But you'll need to an actual expert on the ground there to determine for yourself."

News Anchor: "What significance would there be if it was silenced?"

Andy Hermiston: "Well, it'd legally be an NFA item. That's a two hundred dollar tax stamp per transfer, along with a processing time of several months. From what I'm aware of, the kind of people who are willing to go through the checks for an NFA item typically aren't the kinds who'd use it to commit a crime. Maybe she stole it, but I doubt that, too."

News Anchor: "Why do you think it might not be stolen?"

Andy Hermiston: "Of all the firearms she could've possibly taken, she took the bolt-action that uses subsonic ammo. The officer that was shot wasn't even injured."

News Anchor: "I see. What do you think she was trying to accomplish? Do you believe she might've been trying to assassinate someone?"

Andy Hermiston: "I don't believe I am quite the right person to ask a question like that. What she was trying to do could be anyone's guess. An assassination? The possibility is there, but if you look at her clothes and everything, she seems a bit conspicuous for that, doesn't she?"

News Anchor: "That is a good point. Um, we're just about out of time, do you have anything else to add?"

Andy Hermiston: "Nope. I'm good."

News Anchor: "Thank you for joining us, Mr. Hermiston. We'll be back in five."

Notes:

Thanks for bringing a suppressed firearm into the Library of Congress, Ui. Now we're never getting the Hearing Protection Act passed.

Probably the first video where there'll be fights in the in-universe comments section over the handling of the situation. The mainstream media is now starting to focus their attention on it, too. If this was a real scenario, do you think the officers were justified? No right or wrong answers here, just wanna hear opinions.

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

November 17th, 2021 was a routine day for Officer James Fidel and Officer Payton Bartell of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, who were simply stopping by a local Waffle House for lunch. They notice a group of girls eating at the location, who had garnered some attention locally, for their unusual attire and accessories relating to that attire. While no calls had come in relating to these individuals, Officer Payton Bartell decided to check up on them.

<<Officer Payton Bartell Bodycam>>

The bodycam footage starts with Officer Bartell walking up to the front doors of a Waffle House. An older man in uniform, Officer Fidel, was next to him. The two were conversing.

Officer Bartell: "What do you think of getting? Feeling like a patty melt myself today."

Officer Fidel: "Not sure. Gotta look at the menu."

Once they step into the Waffle House, they could see people walking about. Notably, on their way to the counter, there was a table where four teenage-looking girls were sitting. Officer Bartell stops, then turns to look at them, and the fact that there seems to be some variety of firearms, and even a rocket launcher on the table.

Officer Bartell: "Ho shit, are those cosplays?"

He steps up to the oldest-looking one in the group, a tall, black-haired girl wearing a white coat. She glances over at him, seemingly eyeing him with suspicion.

Officer Bartell: "Good morning, Miss...?"

She looks up from the plate of waffles, and takes note of the officer.

Black-Haired Girl: "Joumae Saori, sir."

Officer Bartell: "I see, miss Joumae. Gotta ask, is that dye, or is it a wig? How did you do it like that?"

The officer points at Saori's hair, which was particularly notable in that it was black, but had inner blue highlights. Saori seems confused at the question.

Joumae Saori: "It's... natural?"

Officer Bartell: "Uh, wait... Really?"

As Officer Bartell mulls over that, Officer Fidel walks up to him, having ordered something to eat already. Officer Fidel glances over the other three girls, and seems to take note of their unusual attire: White coats and scarves, dark inner clothes, masks that lay on the table, and the vibrant hair colors. But what really caught his attention were the floating insignias, all of them with X-shaped motifs, floating over their heads and glowing slightly.

Officer Fidel: "Is it one of those... errr, what was it, the name of... those Genshin Impacts?"

Officer Bartell: "What?"

Officer Fidel: "You know, those... Genshin Impacts that they advertise in 7-11. But with guns."

The older officer was pointing at the firearms that were either on the table, or laying against the chairs. He seems to be assuming that they were elaborate props, too.

Officer Bartell: "You mean anime, Genshin Impact's the name of a game... Well, I think they're cosplaying some anime."

Officer Fidel: "It's all the same to me."

A girl with short dark hair and a red insignia floating over her head proceeds to mutter a few words. She seems confused.

Short-Haired Girl: "This... isn't from a game, though?"

Her comment is caught by the bodycam, but neither officer seems to elaborate on it. Instead, Officer Bartell glances over, in curiosity, at one of the other girls. Her lavender-pink hair was immediately eye catching, but moreso her clothes were interesting. Despite the fact that it is winter, the weather would occasionally spike to the low 80s, which made that large, white hoodie she wore very unusual.

She is currently biting at a waffle drizzled with syrup when he steps over. Next to her plate was what seemed like a black face mask with blue glowing symbols on it.

Officer Bartell: "That mask seems a little overkill for Covid. How do you see out of it?"

She looks up from her waffle, mid-chew, at the question.

Pink-Haired Girl: "Covid?"

The pink-haired girl seems to be confused. Her voice is soft, and her notably dark red eyes flicker over the bodycam for just a second. Officer Bartell points to the mask again, that was on the table.

Officer Bartell: "The whole pandemic and lockdowns, y'know? I mean, the mask looks great and all, it's got respirators. But you don't have issue seeing out of it?"

Pink-Haired Girl: "No?"

The officer seems to pause for a moment, and is about to reach out to pick it up out of curiosity, before a shout behind him catches the man's attention. He immediately turns around to see another man, presumably a customer, entering the Waffle House.

Customer: "Hey! Chef! I'm back!"

The way he spoke did not seem to be in a particularly friendly tone. The cook, who can be seen behind the counter, peeks his head over to see who it is, and the moment he sees this customer, he shouts at him.

Cook: "Oh, it's you again! Get the hell out of here!"

Customer: "Nah."

Cook: "We have a goddamn restraining order!"

Customer: "Then settle the score, don't hide behind some bitch-ass court order. Pussy!"

The cook looks over at the officers, and shouts at them.

Cook: "Get this man off this property immediately!"

As if expecting the officers to react immediately, said cook gave an angered sigh when the customer began taunting him.

Customer: "You're a fucking pussy! Dweeb who can't fight and has to go to daddy police for help, haha!"

Cook: "That's it!"

The cook pulls off both his gloves and hops the counter, to the startled reaction of both officers and the four girls. The two men immediately meet in the middle, landing punches and hits on each other, smashing into tables and overturning chairs. The other customers, not wanting to be involved in the tussle, proceed to vacate from the immediate vicinity of the fight. Both officers are stunned still, until Officer Fidel procures a taser. Officer Bartell did the same.

Officer Bartell: "Both of you, get to the ground! Stop now! I said, stop!"

They didn't stop, and both officers immediately fires their tasers against the two men. Both seem to land direct hits. Unfortunately, deploying a taser against a methed-up Florida man is about as effective as you'd imagine it to be, and the fighting continued.

One of the men — the instigator of the mess — grabs at the large pink lemonade display next to the soda fountain, and lifts it over his head with an inhuman amount of strength. He walks towards the cook, ready to smash it over said cook's head.

The Waffle House cook seems to have anticipated this, and ducked out of the way. However, he had just been backing up against the table that the four girls were seated at, so when the instigator flung it down, the drink display smashes right on top of the pink-haired girl, spilling the sweet drink all over her. She simply sits there, unharmed other than being drenched, as if trying to process what just happened.

The two men continue to tussle, but Saori immediately stands right up after her friend is drenched. She walks, nearly stomps over, to the two men throwing hands. Neither appear to notice her. She proceeds to grab both of them by the collars of their shirt, and lifts them up.

Customer: "Hey!"

Cook: "What the fuck?"

Both officers step away as Saori takes a few steps over to the nearest window, while still holding both of them up, and flings them right through the glass. The window pane shatters as both men smash onto the hood of a car that was parked right outside.

Officer Bartell: "Holy shit, what the hell?"

The cook groans and rolls off the hood of the car, onto the ground. However, there is still some fight left in the rowdy customer. He gets back up, and gives a shout directed at the young woman.

Customer: "Don't fuck with me, bitch!"

From under his shirt, he proceeds to procure a firearm, pulling it out of his waistband and lowering it at Saori. Both officers immediately go for the handguns on their belts, before a loud bang rings out within the building. The weapon in the customer's hand effectively blows up into pieces, and he stumbles to the ground with what little was left of the gun in his hand, screaming.

Officer Bartell turns to the direction the ear-splitting crack had come from, only to see the turquoise-haired girl carrying her anti-tank rifle, the barrel of it smoking. She had a slight frown on her face, as she lowers the weapon.

Turquoise-Haired Girl: "I... stopped it? I think?"

The turquoise-haired girl seemed like she was on the verge of crying, for the moment she was caught on bodycam. However, that moment had passed as Officer Bartell turned back to Saori, who stood still.

Officer Fidel was holding his radio, and after a moment of stupor, began speaking into it.

Officer Fidel: "Shots... uh, shots fired! Yeah, shots fired, we need medical and —"

Before he could finish, however, Saori shouts out to her friends.

Joumae Saori: "Arius Squad, get out! Go, go, go!"

The short-haired girl, who is helping the pink-haired girl with drying her hair and clothes with napkins, picks up the missile launcher set aside the table. Meanwhile, the pink-haired one grabs a submachine gun that was on the table itself. All three of the girls follow the lead of Saori, heading for the smashed window that the two men were thrown out earlier. Each one leaps out one after the other, quicker than the officers could shout at them to stay.

Officer Bartell: "Hey! Wait! Wait up, you all need to stay!"

By the time he gets to the door, the four girls had disappeared in the general direction they've run to. Officer Bartell looks around, before giving up and returning to Officer Fidel.

Officer Bartell: "Fuck, they're gone. Fidel, call for backup."

Officer Fidel: "Who the hell were those girls?

Officer Bartell: "Beats me... Well, they're not cosplayers, I don't think?"

Officer Fidel: "No shit, those guns were real. Get those other two men cuffed, I'll be calling the department over radio..."

The bodycam footage fades to black as Officer Bartell steps over to the smashed window, and to the two men on the ground.

<<Narrator>>

Despite a wide-area search by a dozen additional officers and a police helicopter, no sign of the four girls could be found. The other two individuals involved in the scuffle, 34 year old Harvey Upton and 41 year old Zane Lynch, were brought to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Both have been charged with battery and criminal mischief, with Harvey receiving additional public intoxication and brandishing charges.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has put out a statement, promising a monetary award for information that results in the apprehension of the four girls involved. Included are pictures caught on bodycam and security camera footage of the individuals, to assist in identifying them. It is not recommended to approach these individuals under any circumstances.

The video starts with civilian camera footage of the Waffle House, with vehicles around it. There are a few locals looking at it, and police can be seen taking witness statements. The video then cuts to a witness interview, a woman in casual clothes standing nearby.

Witness 1: "The cook and that guy, they go back  years. Like, anyone who works or eats there, they know the two fight. And most don't bother calling the cops. But what happend with the girl and guns? Crazy."

The footage cut to a second witness.

Witness 2: "I think they used to fight, what, twice a week? Went down to once a month ever since that restraining order."

A third interviewer is then brought up.

Witness 3: "I saw those girls walk in earlier, someone was talking about how they're probably wearing costumes and all. Real guns and rockets? This is Florida, but you can't expect their weapons to have been actually real. Right?"

The final ending footage rolls of a marked FBI van moving onto the scene.

High Caliber Rifle Discharged At Florida Waffle House

News Anchor: "There are many questions tonight, after an incident in Jacksonville, Florida, that echo similar encounters from law enforcement all across the country. Federal agencies ranging from the FBI to the ATF are now getting involved. Joining us tonight is Demoncratic House rep Anna Weathers, to comment on this situation."

The news feed cuts to a still frame of CCTV footage, showing those four girls sitting around the table. It then fades out, to show the news anchor on the left, and the Congresswoman on the right.

News Anchor: "Thank you for joining us tonight. Without a doubt, you've heard of what's happened recently. I just wanted to know if you had a statement to give in regards to this. People are panicked, confused. This is really high profile."

Anna Weathers: "Yes, it is. I've been getting live updates on what's happening at the ground level. Local authorities have been helping us coordinate a search for these girls. We've got assets on the ground and in the air."

News Anchor: "Do you think they have any motives? How did they get their weapons?"

Anna Weathers: "I cannot comment on that at the moment. However, I will say this, to the people listening: We will ensure that our communities are kept safe. Whoever they are, whatever weapons they might have, there is a rule of law in the United States. Lugging around weapons and explosives, brandishing them, there's no place in the US for that. I also encourage anyone to report to the police if they happen to see anything weird, or if they have information on these girls."

News Anchor: "Thank you, Congresswoman Anna Weathers. I do hope this situation is sorted out quickly."

Anna Weathers: "I do, too, and I have full confidence in our law enforcement."

Jacksonville Police Searching For 'Haloed' Girls In Waffle House Incident

News Anchor: "Some more news coming out of Florida, the mayor of Jacksonville has declared a heightened state of caution after an earlier incident involving a shooting at a Waffle House. He has put out an official statement, saying quote, 'Law enforcement is cooperating with the FBI and other law enforcement agenices across Florida to ensure these 'haloed' girls are apprehended'. This is likely the first time their so-called 'halos' have been referenced by a public official."

The screen then shifted to a tweet, with the words on the tweet itself getting highlighted.

News Anchor: "A few others had comments and questions to bring up. One user on Twitter states, quote, 'This isn't the first one, there's plenty more according to body cam footage'. Another states, 'The other times, they were able to apprehend them.  Why not now?' There are also a plethora of other questions, demanding answers on who these girls might be, and what threat they might pose."

The video then cuts to B-roll footage of the capitol building of Jacksonville.

News Anchor: "Others are pointing out, and questioning, the current administration for not looking into these appearances. They have yet to give any statement about this specific incident, as opposed to the Library of Congress incident the previous day."

Officials Seemingly At A Loss Over Weapons Involved In Waffle House Incident

CBS News ✔

403k views · 6 hours ago

News Anchor: "Good evening, I am Jim Miller, your host. Earlier, we covered an incident that took place in a Florida Waffle House, of all places. What was of particular interest were the weapons displayed by the girls who are now wanted individuals across all of Florida. We have consulted many experts for their opinions, and while we are not able to bring all of them on to speak, we were able to confirm the weapons of what some people are now dubbing 'the Arius Squad girls'."

The screen then splits in half, with a blurry still frame of the bodycam on one side of the screen, fading out to different shots. They consisted of several different angles of the weapons that the girls were carrying. On the other side is a generic picture of the weapon that is being shown. The first one was the missile launcher that was carried by the short-haired girl.

News Anchor: "Of them, our experts were able to identify the following: A Stinger MANPAD, which is a ground-to-air missile launcher."

Next, came the large sniper rifle.

News Anchor: "Another was carrying what seemed to be an obscure military sniper rifle, of sorts. Allegedly, it is an NTW-20, though it is supposedly something that is not in mass-manufacture."

Then came the pictures of the two other girls, and the smaller weapons they were carrying.

News Anchor: "We couldn't tell as well what these were, but we are guessing that one is an AR-15 styled assault rifle, and the other has a Scorpion submachine gun. Many of our expert consultants have stated that a variety of these weapons are exclusively owned by the military, and have offered no comments as to how these individuals may have obtained them. We have reached out to county and state officials for comments on this development, but we have yet to recieve a response."

Notes:

I've heard anecdotal statements that people in the midwest sometimes refer to any anime as "Genshin Impacts" because it's been heavily marketed at gas station stops and the like. And for this one, I called Arius's halos 'insignias' in this one because they'd probably barely be recognizable as halos by the typical person.

I've got the ideas for the next several chapters, for sure. Just not the time to put it all on paper. Last few months were hell months for me, and I've got a thing lined up for this and next month. But I'll see what I can put out between now and then.

Chapter 11: 18 November 2021: Massive Gunfight As Saratoga Springs Officers Find Themselves Assisted Against Masked Assailant

Notes:

I'm not typically the one to provide songs you should listen to when reading my works, it feels like a mid-2010s Wattpad thing to do. Despite that assertion, there's one song I've been listening to a lot when writing this chapter, and I imagine that it does well to give atmosphere to the first part of this chapter.

Chapter Text

<<Intro>>

On November 18th, at 2:30 AM, Officer Taurean Koss and Vallie Donnelly of the Saratoga Springs Police Department were performing a routine night patrol on Buff Road, off of New York State Route 29, when they encountered an unknown masked individual wandering in the middle of the night. They decide to flash their lights, to bring the individual's attention to them.

<<Dashcam>>

The dashcam footage starts from the perspective of the vehicle, with the police car going northbound on Buff Road, away from the state route. The street is particularly dark, with little streetlamps lighting the road. The vehicle slows as someone is seen standing on the road a distance aways, lit by the headlights of the police cruiser.

Officer Donnelly: "Who is she?"

Officer Koss: "No clue. We'll stop and check up on her, it's a bit of an odd hour."

As the vehicle pulls up, her clothing could be faintly seen: A dark, patterned kimono. Behind her head is a red circle-like shape, faintly glowing. And two dark animal ears stick from her head.

Officer Koss: "Someone in a dress of some sort? Or a skirt?"

The officers proceed to flash on the lights of their cruiser, while using the spotlights on the side to light up that individual. The dashcam caught her turning to face the police cruiser; she is wearing a white mask over her face. She is carrying something over her shoulder, but from that angle, it was difficult to discern what it might be.

Officer Koss rolls down both driver and passenger side windows, and begins speaking.

Officer Koss: "Hey there! Just wanted to know what you are doing out here at this hour?"

The masked woman turns away for a moment, as if not expecting that question. She then looks back at the vehicle.

Masked Woman: "And who may you be?"

Officer Donnelly: "We're officers with the Saratoga Springs Police Department, ma'am."

She seems to take a moment to contemplate that.

Masked Woman: "Oho, does that mean you are here to arrest me?"

Her voice is sly, almost mocking in tone.

Officer Koss: "Uh, no... what the fuck? We're just checking up on you?"

Masked Woman: "Oh, are you?"

The masked woman immediately brings to bear whatever she is carrying over her shoulder.

Officer Koss: "Gun. Holy shit, she has a—!"

It is a rifle. She begins firing through the windshield of the police cruiser. Both officers yell and duck as holes perforate the glass, while the driver attempts to shift in reverse. Notably, she's racking her bolt-action rifle every time to fire it.

Officer Koss: "Jesus! Fuck, fuck, fuck!"

The patrol vehicle finally reverses as the officer floors it. A few more shots make it through the windshield, before there was a momentary pause. And then, an especially loud shot rings out, jolting the entire police cruiser as it reverses. The engine sputters, before it dies, and the officers figure out what's happening when he tries to shift but can't.

Officer Koss: "Engine's out!"

Officer Donnelly: "Bail! Shots fired, shots fired! Dispatch, we need immediate assistance on Buff Road!"

<<Officer Vallie Donnelly's Bodycam>>

Both officers open up their side doors and take cover behind them, as another barrage strikes the windshield. Meanwhile, Officer Donnelly is grasping her radio and yelling into it.

Officer Donnelly: "Now! We need assistance now!"

Officer Donnelly can be seen drawing her handgun, firing in the direction of the attacker. Meanwhile, Officer Koss runs back to the trunk, which was popped open, to retrieve his patrol rifle. The two lay down fire in the masked woman's direction. Interestingly enough, it seemed that a red light was coming from the direction she was standing. The masked woman returns fire, hitting the glass windows and side doors that the officers were taking cover behind. Officer Donnelly immediately ducks from the shower of broken glass.

Officer Koss: "Who the hell is this?"

Officer Donnelly retreats to behind the trunk of the police cruiser, as Officer Koss raises the rifle and begins firing at the woman. Gunshots continued to ring out, more bullets hitting the vehicle, prompting the female officer to duck back down. She grabs her radio again, and yells into it.

Officer Donnelly: "Woman with dark hair and a white mask, she's shooting at us with a long gun! Send help now, damnit!"

Dispatch: "Additional units are on the way. Just hold on tight."

The female police officer grunts in response, and then ducks back into the passenger side front seat of the police cruiser, to grab at the intercom mic. She turns it on and then begins yelling into it, to alert the neighborhood.

Officer Donnelly: "All residents, stay inside and lock your doors! I repeat, stay inside and—"

She is interrupted when a small explosion goes off beneath the police car, sending the front into the air a foot. Donnelly curses as she is jolted around, radio still in hand, until the front wheels of the damaged cruiser finally hit the ground again. Car alarms go off all over the neighborhood.

Officer Koss: "Fall back! We need to fall back, holy shit!"

<<Officer Ryleigh Herman's Bodycam>>

The video then switches to the bodycam of another officer, Officer Ryleigh Herman of the Saratoga Springs PD. He is casually sitting in his police cruiser, a ways away from the scene, when he hears the message come over on radio.

Dispatch: "Shots fired on Buff Road, just off of State Route 29. Officers need immediate assistance, shots fired."

He immediately shifts into drive and floors it on the gas.

Officer Herman: "Officer Herman here, reporting. What do we know?"

Dispatch: "One suspect, a female with a rifle. Wearing a mask. Taurean and Vallie are on the scene."

The officer nods, but doesn't say much else.

<<Narrator>>

On-scene, both officers retreat from their stricken vehicle behind some parked cars. As they hunker down against their assailant and wait for additional assistance, an off-duty sergeant from their department arrives to assist them.

<<Officer Vallie Donnelly's Bodycam>>

Officer Donnelly takes cover alongside a parked RV, as she looks over to see a figure in the dark walking to her. A voice from that figure calls out to the two officers.

Unknown Man: "Hey! What's up with this commotion?"

Officer Donnelly: "Roel, what the hell?"

Roel: "Sounded like you guys need help. And looks like it, too."

The off-duty officer steps up alongside the two, an older man with a rifle over his shoulder. He kneels down next to them and loads an en-bloc clip into his rifle, an M1 Garand.

Officer Donnelly: "Aren't you off duty?"

Roel: "Yeah, I'm supposed to be on leave! My nieces and nephews are over today."

Officer Donnelly: "What the hell are you doing here, then?"

Roel then points down to a house near the end of the street.

Roel: "Because I live right there! The gunfire woke them up, I told 'em to get in the basement."

Roel braces his rifle against his shoulder and begins firing downrange. The other officers join him in firing their various firearms at the target, as they move to a better position beside the RV.

The sounds of police sirens catch the attention of the three. Two more police cruisers and a police SUV, with their lights flashing, pull onto the street.

Officer Koss: "We've got more guys coming!"

The additional police vehicles move up. Several more gunshots ring from the assailant, and the lead police vehicle is hit through the windshield. It swerves to the side and plows through several residential trash carts that were lined up by the curb. The officer stumbles out, seemingly unharmed but startled.

The other two police vehicles peel off and onto the curb, to ensure they weren't shot at either. A few more officers get out, with their guns drawn.

Newly-Arrived Officer: "Officer Herman, on scene. What's going on?"

Officer Donnelly: "Roel is here, he's gonna be helping us. We have no clue what we're going against, but it's fucking bad so far. They have explosives, IEDs of sorts."

Officer Herman: "What? Terrorists?"

All four of them huddle beside the RV as the occasional gunshot rings out.

Roel: "I've heard secondhand stories from people who were in Watertown during the Marathon Bombings in '13, this is looking a lot like it. I'm betting on terrorists."

Officer Donnelly: "It's just one person. Some woman in a Japanese mask. She was just standing out there and began shooting at us after she asked if we're there to arrest her."

Roel: "You're shitting me, right?"

Officer Donnelly: "I wish! Bitch has some old rifle, too. And, like, this glowing thing over her..."

The female officer pauses, as she realizes what she's about to say.

Officer Donnelly: "Holy fuck, wait. She might be one of those..."

<<Narrator>>

Additional assistance would come to the officers from an unconventional source, specifically, a non-PD armored vehicle.

<<Officer Vallie Donnelly's Bodycam>>

The officer is cut off as they all hear the roar of a loud diesel engine. Spotlights shine from the tree line on one side of the road, moments before a navy blue armored vehicle bursts through, with its blue police lights flashing. It bounces as the tire hits the curb, then pulls onto the road, facing in the direction of the masked assailant.

Officer Koss: "Backup? SWAT is here already?"

The armored truck appears to be a characteristic police vehicle. However, the design of it is distinctly not the typical Lenco BearCats that US Police Departments typically used. Emblazoned on the side, in large letters, is "KSPD", with the word "Valkyrie" beneath it and an unfamiliar logo beside the acronym. It pulls up right behind the first stricken police cruiser, and the left side door opens up. Out steps what seems to be a woman in a uniform of sorts; she peers over the opened door of the armored vehicle, before ducking behind it when more gunshots ring out and strike the armor.

Roel immediately begins moving up, despite the fact that he's not in uniform, with his rifle at the ready. The other officers follow him too, mostly to take cover alongside the armored security vehicle.

Roel: "Saratoga Springs PD! Identify yourself!"

She turns to look at the man, her blonde hair something that could still be made out even in the darkness. Floating above her head is what seems to be an array of neatly-aligned squares that gave a blueish glow.

Blonde Woman: "You're not KSPD?"

What is most notable about her are the two canine-esque ears on her head, and the sharp teeth that glinted in the light.

Roel: "Who the fuck are you?"

Blonde Woman: "I'm—"

She is immediately interrupted by another burst of gunfire ricocheting off the armored truck. She ducks down, and so does the other officers, before she unholsters a handgun. Peeking beside the door, she unloads an entire magazine in the direction of the assailant.

Blonde Woman: "Fubuki! Lay down fire on her! Now! And Kirino, get out and toss some smoke to cover us!"

Moments later, the enclosed turret atop the Bearcat fires a burst down the road, startling the American officers. The blonde woman ducks behind the armored door again.

Blonde Woman: "As I was saying, Ogata Kanna, KSPD. Everything's gone to hell. We were looking to contain the Fox of Calamity when I find myself with almost none of my personnel and a single APC."

She reloads her handgun, flicking the empty magazine to the ground and loading a fresh one. The young woman then pauses, as if realizing who she was talking to.

Ogata Kanna: "But, wait. Who are you?"

Roel: "Uh. Well, shit, if we're doing full names, Roel Rath. Off-duty PD sergeant, now involuntarily on-duty. What is... this?"

Ogata Kanna: "At this point? I can't say I know. But you all seemed in a pinch trying to deal with Wakamo."

Roel Rath: "You know that woman?"

Ogata Kanna: "A fair amount. Unfortunately, I know enough to know that we don't have the resources to handle her."

<<Officer Ryleigh Herman's Bodycam>>

The camera then switches to Officer Herman, who witnesses the exchange between Kanna and the other officers. He doesn't say anything, but seems to acknowledge what is happening.

Another girl hops out from the back of the armored vehicle. She has white hair done in two pigtails, one of those halos glowing above her head, a revolver at her hip, and several smoke canisters around her belt. She grabs one and tosses it in front of the armored vehicle. Smoke billows from the smoke grenade. She tosses two more for good measure, and they land next to the wrecked police car. A few more gunshots sound from the direction of the assailant, which forces her to duck beneath the armored vehicle.

Officer Herman steps up to her and takes note of the megaphone on her hip, clipped to her belt.

Officer Herman: "Hey! You! Got a thing to ask of you."

Smokescreen Girl: "Uh? Oh!"

She only seems to take notice of him after he calls for her.

Officer Herman: "What's your name?"

Smokescreen Girl: "Uh, Kirino?"

Officer Herman: "Okay. Kirino, the intercom on my cruiser isn't working. Warn the neighborhood, we need to tell 'em to shelter in place!"

Kirino: "What? We're in a neighborhood?"

Officer Herman: "Look around you! I mean, it's dark and all but you can see the houses, right?"

She seems to take a moment to compose herself, before unclipping the megaphone from her belt.

Kirino: "Y-yes! Right! What should I say?"

A few bullets ping off the side of the armored vehicle. The police officer ducks for a moment, hearing the whizzing by his head.

Officer Herman: "Tell them to stay inside!"

She nods, then holds the megaphone up to her mouth. Her voice is amplified out of the megaphone.

Kirino: "Please stay in your homes. Under no circumstances should you exit! There is a... shootout happening here, with the Fox of Calamity. You should not exit your homes!"

The officer shakes his head and mutters under his breath about how the announcement isn't standard by any means, but he seems to let it go. He moves up past Kirino with his patrol rifle at the ready, then glances down in the direction of the wrecked police car that is partially obscured by smoke. It seems the gunfire had stopped momentarily, since that smokescreen was deployed.

However, he pauses when he sees a figure standing atop the police vehicle. He immediately brings his rifle up and shouts.

Officer Herman: "She's right there!"

That caught the attention of the others.

Officer Koss: "Holy shit!"

Roel Rath: "Fuck man!"

They all raise their rifles and handguns and begin firing on her. However, in their panicked state, most of them don't land their shots. The few that do hit, she appears to shrug off. She simply stands there with this imposing air around her, until Kanna walks by with her handgun at the ready. She fires a volley of shots, and miraculously, practically every single shot from the KSPD commander hit the assailant in the head.

Wakamo's head jerks back, like she was kicked in the face. Her mask is thrown askew, partially shattered by the shots and hanging onto her neck. She turns her head back, slowly, to look at Kanna. Her amber-yellow eyes seemed to glow in the dark, and only did more to contribute to the near-crazed expression on her face.

Wakamo: "You're quite the brave one... Feral Hound! We'll meet again!"

Kanna seems to know something, because she immediately yells out to the other officers.

Otaga Kanna: "Get away from the KSPD truck—!"

Mere seconds later, the armored truck explodes in a ball of fire, the windshield on it shattering. The explosion flings open the side and rear doors, and the small turret atop it pops clean off to land a few meters away. Police officers scramble away, and Officer Herman stumbles back from the fireball that explodes from the opened doors and the hole through the top. Practically every car alarm in the neighborhood goes off from the concussive blast.

<<Officer Taurean Koss's Bodycam>>

Officer Koss stumbles backwards as the armored truck goes up in flames. Out of the right-side door, which would normally be a passenger side door, a burning figure leaps out while holding a fire extinguisher. She seemingly pulls it on herself, as a cloud of white dust immediately extinguishes her burning clothes. She gasps as she stumbles to the ground, sitting upright against the parked RV. There is a shotgun over her shoulder, which seems a little scorched too.

Unknown Girl: "Knew it was a good idea to keep that extinguisher close."

Officer Koss runs up to her, showing that she too has silver-hued hair. Interestingly enough was her Hawaiian shirt, though that hardly catches his immediate attention. The man grabs his radio and begins speaking into it.

Officer Koss: "We need medical here immediately, several injured. And more officers!"

She gives a pained grin as he steps alongside her. Additional gunshots could be heard as the officers try to regroup, to shoot at Wakamo. He brings his rifle up and fires twice at the last place the fox-girl was, but his rifle clicks dry after two shots.

Hawaiian Shirt Girl: "Outta ammo?"

He doesn't answer, but it seems that his empty magazine pouches speak for themselves. The girl pushes her shotgun towards the officer.

Hawaiian Shirt Girl: "Take it. I feel myself... slipping."

He looks at the shotgun at his feet.

Officer Koss: "What is this? No, you're gonna be alright, we've got medics coming our way."

The girl gives a pained smile.

Hawaiian Shirt Girl: "Just... just keep the Director safe, alright?"

The flower-shaped emblem above her head briefly flickers.

Officer Koss: "Stay with me!"

She slumps over. The emblem above her head flickers out. The police officer grabs her by the shoulder, to keep her up, but it seems she's out cold.

Officer Koss: "Fucking... damn it!"

He then grabs the shotgun that she pushed towards him, a Remington 870, and checks to see that it's loaded. Despite the somewhat unusual bright colors the weapon is in, he immediately brings it up to his shoulder and begins firing in the direction of Wakamo.

<<Officer Ryleigh Herman's Bodycam>>

Another girl seems to crawl out of the back of the opened doors of the still-burning armored truck. Officer Herman runs in and grabs her outstretched arms, to drag her away from the destroyed vehicle. Her clothes are smoldering and her unusually blue hair is singed at the edges, but she otherwise seems unharmed. The bodycam catches some of what she is saying.

Blue-Haired Girl: "I wish I had paid time off."

Once they were a sufficient distance from the destroyed vehicle, Officer Herman stops and huffs.

Officer Herman: "Are you alright? Jesus... you look like a kid."

The girl groans. Officer Herman hurriedly takes off his coat to put out the last few flames on her clothes.

Blue-Haired Girl: "A donut and some coffee would do well right about now..."

Officer Herman: "Hang on, we've got medics arriving."

She gives a weak cough, and glances up at the officer. Most notably, both her eyes and the halo-like shape floating above her head are in a deep red-pink shade.

Blue-Haired Girl: "...Thanks."

Officer Herman: "The hell are you?"

She gives a sigh, then does her best to muster up a shrug.

Blue-Haired Girl: "Don't ask questions like that, I'm exhausted..."

<<Officer Taurean Koss's Bodycam>>

The other officers continue moving up to the now-destroyed armored truck, as additional cops behind them pull up to reinforce the group. They continued shooting at the silouhette of the wrecked police car, the last place they saw Wakamo, before they stop.

Officer Donnelly: "Cease fire! I don't see her anymore!"

The gunshots peter out into a relative silence, with only the sounds of car alarms, wailing police sirens, and the crackling of fire there to interrupt what otherwise might've been silence.

Ogata Kanna: "Moving up! I don't hear gunshots from her anymore, but be careful!"

Officer Donnelly: "Roger!"

The officers all step up beside the still-burning armored police truck, their guns drawn. Kanna takes the lead, walking over to the wrecked police cruiser, and glancing left and right. She continues forward, then scans the area. The officers do the same, to the right and left of her.

Then, she turns back to them, her gun lowered.

Ogata Kanna: "It seems that she's gone."

The red and amber flashing lights of emergency medical personnel and firefighters can be seen through the trees, as they pulled onto the road.

Ogata Kanna: "I'd still be careful, though... But I think we can relax for now. She doesn't usually try to stay in prolonged fights."

She walks over in the direction of the still-burning armored vehicle, to the blue-haired girl who was laying on the ground.

Ogata Kanna: "Fubuki. Fubuki!"

The girl in question responds.

Fubuki: "Yeah? I'm in pain."

Ogata Kanna: "Fubuki, you'll be alright."

Fubuki: "Things could be a lot better!"

The girl coughs after that outburst. Kanna seems to not be amused.

Ogata Kanna: "Yeah. And things could also be a lot worse, too."

The blonde woman's tone changed after a moment.

Ogata Kanna: "Good work, though. I know manning a turret isn't usually your thing, but you did well. How is Konoka?"

Fubuki: "Konoka... She went over there."

The girl points in the direction of the RV.

Fubuki: "But I haven't heard anything from her."

That was when Officer Koss speaks up.

Officer Koss: "The other silver haired one? She passed out!"

Ogata Kanna: "Really? Bring me to her."

Officer Koss then leads Kanna over to Konoka, who is still sitting against the parked RV and resting. Kanna kneels down and places two fingers on Konoka's throat.

Ogata Kanna: "She's fine. Still breathing."

Officer Koss: "Really? That girl just leaped out of a burning truck."

Ogata Kanna: "She can handle it. Still would be a good idea to check her up, though."

As Kanna gets back up, she looks behind her to see additional vehicles move onto the street. Two ambulances and a firetruck pull onto the road, their lights flashing, as emergency medical personnel proceed to dismount from them. A few additional police cruisers were also arriving.

Roel steps over with his M1 Garand over his shoulder, accompanied by Kirino.

Roel Rath: "I told megaphone girl here that she can probably stop alerting the neighborhood, her voice sounded like it was gonna go out."

Kirino: "I missed out on the action and didn't even get to shoot at her once!"

Ogata Kanna: "...Probably for the better, given your accuracy."

As Kirino pouts, Kanna glances over at Roel. The off-duty officer was still in plain clothes, but she takes notice of his rifle.

Ogata Kanna: "Not standard issue, is it?"

Roel didn't seem to know what she was talking about, until he pointed to his rifle.

Roel Rath: "What, this? Oh, it's my own. Granddad fought in the Pacific and loved it so much he bought it as surplus after the war."

Kanna almost seems to give a slight chuckle at that.

Ogata Kanna: "Huh... What were you doing here out of uniform, fighting Wakamo with... an antique rifle?"

Roel Rath: "I'm actually off duty, on my vacation time. I live right there."

The man points to his house down the road.

Ogata Kanna: "I see. Glad that you could help us."

Roel Rath: "The paperwork alone is probably going to be a nightmare."

Ogata Kanna: "I can imagine."

Roel flashes a cheeky grin at Officer Koss.

Roel Rath: "Which is why I'm glad I'm still on leave, technically."

Kanna rolls her eyes as Officer Koss gave a choked laugh.

Ogata Kanna: "Sounds like a very Fubuki thing to say..."

Fubuki can be heard a few meters away, evidently hearing that statement.

Fubuki: "Hey!"

Officer Koss: "Well, I'm glad you were here to help us. Things would've been a hell of a lot worse if you weren't. I gotta ask, though, who's this Wakamo chick? The one we've just been fighting?"

Ogata Kanna: "The Fox of Calamity. One of the most dangerous criminals in Kivotos. I think I've just made a rival of her, entirely by accident."

Officer Koss: "Well, shit. Whole thing sounds unbelievable, but if you have that over your head..."

He gestures to her halo. Kanna seems puzzled.

Ogata Kanna: "My halo? What about it?"

Officer Koss: "If you can't tell, they're not normal around those parts... but I saw something like that in the news. Girls with guns and bright outfits and 'halos'."

Ogata Kanna: "Other residents of Kivotos?"

Kanna murmurs that last sentence, and it didn't seem like Officer Koss caught it. Roel, meanwhile, lights a cigarette, and offers the box to the canine-eared woman. She looks at him with confusion.

Roel Rath: "Newport?"

Ogata Kanna: "...I don't smoke."

The bodycam footage fades out from there.

<<Narrator>>

Following the shootout, several officers of the Saratoga Springs Police Department were admitted to the hospital with minor injures, along with the members of the 'KSPD' who had assisted the officers in the battle. The individual members of the 'KSPD' are fully cooperative with law enforcement. Currently, a full-scale manhunt is taking place to apprehend the individual responsible for the shootout, full name Kosaka Wakamo. All residents of the upstate New York region are advised to be cautious of any suspicious individuals 'sporting visible glowing features over their heads', and to report to local law enforcement if anything suspect is sighted.

Reports of Gunfire In Upstate New York Suburbs

CNN ✔

930k views · 14 hours ago

News Anchor: "Breaking news, we have a developing incident in the town of Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. Police and local law enforcement have gotten into a shootout with an unknown assailant. Details are still pending at the moment, however we have some footage submitted by viewers that they have caught of the shootout."

The video cuts to footage taken from inside a home, looking out the window of the second floor of the building. Gunshots can be heard as a few officers can be seen running through the dark streets below. A police cruiser that is driving forward suddenly veers off and crashes into a row of trash cans on the curb. The person recording it stumbles back and gives a yelp of panic.

It then cuts to the next video, showing someone recording with their phone in portrait mode. The armored vehicle can be seen rolling down the street, before coming to a stop right in front of the wrecked police cruiser.

Cameraman: "KSPD? Who the hell are these people?"

The video then cuts back to the news anchor.

News Anchor: "Many of our viewers and individuals on the ground are also reporting a large response of additional police and fire units are reporting to the scene. We will update you as new information comes to light."

LIVE: 'I could hear bullets hitting the walls of my house' - Saratoga Springs Locals Clean Up After Battle

ABC News ✔

1.2m views · 13 hours ago

The video starts at the neighborhood the shootout took place, in the morning. Multiple firetrucks, FBI and SWAT vans, and police cruisers are parked around the street. The entire street itself is blocked off with yellow police tape. The footage then cuts to one of the locals.

Witness 1: "You see, I heard the gunshots at first, you don't normally hear that around here. There was all this yelling and screaming and explosions, and I could hear bullets hitting my front porch."

The footage then cuts to a zoomed in shot of the alleged KSPD armored vehicle that was involved in the fight. The fire was long gone, but the interior seems to be blackened and all four of its tires were flat. A large tow truck was there, and multiple men appear to be trying to figure out how to move it.

Witness 2: "I work night shift, imagine my surprise when I came back home to see my whole street's become a war zone. Damn it."

The footage cuts to a police officer standing beside the tossed turret of the armored truck. He looks down at it, then back up idly. It then cuts to the third witness.

Witness 3: "I have a wife and kids, man. We all had to huddle in a closet, you can hear the windows shatter and everything."

The ending footage shows heavily armed SWAT teams moving into the forest around the immediate vicinity of the neighborhood. The camera zooms out to show the entire scene in detail, as a tow truck pulls away with one of the wrecked police cruisers on its flatbed.

Massive Gunfight Sparks New Debates About New York's Gun Laws

MSNBC ✔

783k views · 11 hours ago

News Anchor: "After a harrowing gunfight that some are now dubbing 'the battle of Saratoga Springs', lawmakers and congressmen have been commenting about New York's firearm laws. What's been brought to attention here, aside from the fact that the individual responsible is connected to the 'haloed people' showing up all across the US, is that she was able to inflict such carnage with nothing but a bolt-action rifle."

The screen then splits to a tweet on one side, and the news anchor on the other. The side with the tweet is highlighted to show the tweet specifically.

News Anchor: "New York Congresswoman Tomasa Spencer has said, quote, 'High-powered rifles, like the one used to assault Saratoga Springs officers, have no place in our neighborhoods or on our streets. This is why I remain committed to gun safety legislation, to ensure guns do not fall into the wrong hands.' However, she has come under fire for these statements. 'You're making broad generalizations about an entire class of firearms, many of which include heritage weapons passed down through generations.' Another critic has stated, quote: 'They won't stop at your 'assault weapons', they'll just reclassify your granddad's hunting rifle as a sniper rifle'."

The video then cuts to B-roll footage of police units moving and law enforcement helicopters taking off.

News Anchor: "Meanwhile, state police has been mobilized in the search for the individual responsible, in a manhunt that rivals the hunt for the Boston Marathon Bombers in sheer scale. Republicans have criticized the Democrat majority of New York for not putting forth the effort to mobilize additional resources, such as the national guard. With how uncertain the current situation looks, however, some are praising the restraint to prevent state overreach."

Search Continues For Unknown Armed Woman 'Kosaka Wakamo'

Fox News ✔

News Anchor: "Up next, we'll be covering the utter confusion in New York as police departments, leaders, and lawmakers organize to search for the individual responsible for firing at law enforcement officers late last night."

The screen shifts to a tweet made by a politician. The words in the tweet were being highlighted as they were quoted.

News Anchor: "Republican New York State Representative Bruce Reichel has had a lot to say. Quote, 'This isn't a gun problem at all. Literally any criminals can get their hands on guns no matter how hard you might try to ban them. In fact, New York law only makes it difficult for law abiding citizens to arm themselves!' Those are particularly scathing words considering the context, and he has come under fire from some of his constituents for the poor timing of his comments. One person states, 'She was bulletproof, you'd just get civilians killed that way'. Another says 'Are you advocating for people to take the law into their own hands?'"

The screen then shifts to a tweet from the Saratoga Springs Police Department, highlighting the tweet.

News Anchor: "Meanwhile, the Saratoga Springs Police Department have affirmed that they are collaborating with state and federal level law enforcement entities to apprehend the woman, who has been named 'Kosaka Wakamo'. The individuals affiliated with the 'KSPD' are also reportedly cooperating and contributing to the efforts."

Exclusive Interview With "Haloed Girl": Ogata Kanna

CBS News ✔

1.6m views · 5 hours ago

News Anchor: "Up here tonight, an exclusive interview with one of these 'haloed girls', in light of the incredible amounts of violence we saw from the town of Saratoga Springs. I'm Jim Miller, and I will be your host tonight."

The screen then splits in two. On one side is the news anchor, Jim Miller, and on the other side is Ogata Kanna, sitting at a table with a cup of coffee in her hands.

News Anchor: "Hello, Miss Ogata. Glad to have you on tonight."

Ogata Kanna: "Just Kanna is fine."

News Anchor: "Okay. As you know, Miss Kanna. This is an extraordinary opportunity for us here, considering that it's the first time we're actually able to talk with one of you."

Ogata Kanna: "I am aware. But I am not here for that, I'm here to tell you about the individual in question that I am concerned over."

News Anchor: "The 'Fox of Calamity', you called her? This information, it's not exclusive to us, is it?"

Ogata Kanna: "I've drafted a memo to other police departments already, so this is something they know. But they figured that it was best for me to speak directly about her."

News Anchor: "Okay. Please tell us, who is it we're dealing with?"

Ogata Kanna: "Her name is Kosaka Wakamo. She is incredibly dangerous, and has been locked away for years, for causing untold amounts of property damage. She also has a knack for rallying others to her cause, though here... that might not be possible for her to do."

News Anchor: "Is it possible to negotiate with her?"

Kanna takes a long sip of her coffee, before she replies.

Ogata Kanna: "Not that I've ever seen."

News Anchor: "But is it possible?"

Ogata Kanna: "I'm not saying that it is impossible, but if it was an avenue we could've taken, we would've. She doesn't see reason, the only thing she cares about is chaos."

Jim Miller nods.

News Anchor: "I see. There are a few additional questions we have that are tangentially related to this, may I ask them?"

Kanna sighs.

Ogata Kanna: "I did say I wasn't answering anything not related to the case, but sure. One question. I'll be the judge of whether I want to answer it."

There is a pause from the news anchor, before he finally decides on one.

News Anchor: "There's been some talk about your incredible competency, and this is in spite of how young you look. Some of our viewers, and our experts, are wondering how long you've been in your current leadership position? What does your experience look like?"

The girl seems to consider this question. She glances down for a moment.

Ogata Kanna: "Hm... It's hard to say? I gradually grew into the role. But, if you want to know when I first enrolled in Valkyrie, that would be..."

Kanna seems to think for a moment.

Ogata Kanna: "I first joined when I was fourteen, that was... three years ago? Yes, three years ago. Time really flies."

The news anchor looks confused, as he seemingly does the math in his head.

News Anchor: "Wait. You're... seventeen?"

Kanna tilts her head.

Ogata Kanna: "Yes?"

News Anchor: "You're really seventeen?"

She takes another sip of her coffee before responding.

Ogata Kanna: "Is there a problem with that?"

News Anchor: "This... uh, your age is not something we've... considered. We'll have to end this interview now, thank you for your time."

Notes:

A small battle that is vaguely reminiscent of Patriot Day's Watertown shootout. Small suburban police departments simply are not trained nor equipped to handle these kinds of situations. This isn't to rag on them as much as it is to state a simple reality. Unless you were to garrison every street corner with national guardsmen, I very much doubt there would be any towns in the US that would be able to handle Wakamo.

I realized the whole "Fox and the Hound" connection as I was writing this chapter, imagine how interesting it'd be if Kanna and Wakamo had once been childhood friends. Probably won't ever happen, but we'll see.

New to this site. Give me recommendations on what tags to give, I'm not familiar with the way the tagging system works and there's a billion tags to sift through.

I'm not too intimately familiar with writing in a script-like format; I write stories more traditionally. But, since I'm trying to emulate the style of those police bodycam YouTube channels, I figured that having it in this style would be more true-to-form than if it were written traditionally.

Updates will be intermittent, on a 'when I want to' schedule. Open to ideas in the comments.
