Chapter Text
Julia Carter love her job. Her superiors know it, her colleagues know it, and, of course the people working under her knew it too.
She was the fun boss who forced you to take a break, bought gifts, and also the energetic woman of the building. She’s s always happy(or smiling), expecting if she decides today is a good day, today is a good day . (It can get scary at times)
People call her a workaholic. It’s totally true. Can you really blame her? At seven her father made her come with him for bring-you’re-kid-to-work day. At home that night she made a pinky promise to her father: she will do everything to have the same job.
Now, at forty-eight without a partner or kids, or close friends and her parents in a retirement home and grey hair (yes it’s dye), she was at the same place her father was.
Sure, being the boss to a bunch of people who answer call and send police officers (or other type of help really) is very…special for a passion.
But it’s her passion… and it also has a lot of cool things that comme with it.
Julia was not minding her own business went she got an alert form one of the call operator. What? She has a new intern, that means keeping an eye on his activity.
But anyway, "Boss!" Katerine Kate shuffles her way in Julia’s office with a mixture of confusion and slight panic. "We-"
Her assistant didn’t have the time to finish her phrase that Julia was walking down the stairs. Katerine trailed behind her boss, who asked to be guided where the call got received.
The call receiver was Nicolas Xavier, a nice guy who take his job seriously and also pretty shy.
As for the call itself…well it was something.
It started by Nicolas asking what the emergency, who was followed by a calm voice with an accent. To give a big run down of the call, it was a thirty second discussion -mostly one sided- where the other person claim a fight is gonna broke out in the Clown town.
It ended with Nicolas asking what’s their name is.
Julia turned her attention back to Nicolas. "That’s it?"
"Yes."
She looks at him expectantly, while he scrunches himself at an attempt to be smaller. Like he expects to disappear.
She looks back at the monitor then at Nicolas then back to the monitor.
"Katerine call Lampas, tell them to send people to Clown town." Her tone was shift to closer to screaming. "Nicolas do the same with police." She turns on her heels and speed walks to the exit.
Something that was well known in the emergency call department was how much miss Carter love to go on the scene.
And- yes. She wasn’t supposed to be there.
Clown town isn’t exactly…uh…real? Well it’s technically real but not officially. The name of the place is Bethesda vilzone. It’s unusually small for a vilzone. And it’s divided.
See Washington DC as, for a couple of years, had a problem with a clown gang. At first they were annoying, then they started vandalism, then stealing, and it eventually evolved to a family thing.
And some two years ago they needed a base. They attacked Bethesda vilzone with the intention to take it. Somehow it ended up being split, not at all evenly -more for the clowns, moreover, there now Clowns town and the rest of Bethesda vilzone squished together.
"How long till we get there?" The most famous gang member call himself Ralph. He got arrested by Raul Gallardo and Rick Yun on a special operation.
"Five minutes ma’am." Unfortunately other high ranking gang members heard of his arrest and freed him.
Julia didn’t know what to do. She anxiously looked to the GPS. Then just stared at the little car advancing painfully slowly on the small device.
The subordinate who freed him explained the real Clown boss was not happy with his capture. And of course, Ralph, not wanting to face his brother’s anger, wanted to bring him an apology gift. So he made a stop to Vespérna. I mean, they serve the best food of probably the entire country.
The car stop because the lights turned red.
Ralph isn’t known for his delicate and polite robbery. He actually smashed a window to get inside.
She gave three twenty bills in cash to the driver and ran to the center of the vilzone.
As if it wasn’t enough, he injured multiple workers.
"Shit!" In the end she was late. Extremely late. Police were there, psyker were there, other people related to emergency were there. And worst of all, she missed the fight.
Because if there one thing her employees used to describe her was: fight enthusiasm. Doesn’t matter what kind of fight, as long as it a real one.
And now, she lost the opportunity to see a fight between villains.
She was approached by an agent who was glaring at her. "You’re are not supposed to be here." He made sure to emphasize each word.
"Well I am." She smile "so what happened? Rex stole Robin’s makeup, started a cat fight and then they realized it a random villain who stole it." Yes, it happened. More than once.
Timothy jr was clearly debating whether or not to tell her what happened. He ultimately gave up. He wasn’t paid enough, and Julia always, always , cameback.
"More like they succeed to piss off one of the new strongest villain. The guy came all the way from South Korea to beat them up."
"How long did the fight last for?"
He scoffed. "Fight? You mean beating, right? Believe me it was more of a advection than a fight."
She looks at him disappointed. "Then what about those?" She pointed at the mountain of jewelry.
"What? Oh that? The guy who advected them gave us proof so they would all go to jail. 'Just in case your proof got thrown away' he said."
"That’s ridiculous." Jr gave her a look. "Out" and now senior is coming to scold her. "Come on! At least tell me something about the Korean guy!"
Senior gave her the same look. "We got called by your people."
"And?"
He gave her an even bigger disappointed look. "You are so impatient. And have the attention span of a teen who scrolls tick tock five hours a day." She look at him expectantly. "Research Cassian." He finally said.
Cassian
Of course, how could she have forgotten about the kid.
When she heard that a Dual ability user showed up, she didn’t believe it.
Remember the 'cool things' who come with the job? Yeah, it’s called being able to rummage through Lampas and see close to everything they know about each individual, psyker or villain.
Well, she took a peek at his profile out of curiosity and…wow.
After that, she checked every week if there was something new on his profile. She also started following local Korean media. Julia stopped we she realized what the media said and what was written in Lampas fil were complete opposite.
She had even paid to see the live stream.
And then one day, his profile changed. It when from;

Rank: S
Magic points: 1300 (approximate)
Attribute: Darkness/Fire (dual ability user)

Julia broke her rule that day and looked through every piece of media. Basically, for unknown reasons, Cassian had abandoned his boss position. The new boss is actually the old boss, Driver.
Yes that’s it.
Okay, well. The media discovered it because the whole Gadam vilzone (other joint as well) threw a giant goodbye party.
After that, everything went mostly back to normal. And Julia forgot about it soon after. Until today. I mean, who comes back to two months later in another country?
Wait.
Why the hell was that kid here????
If Julia Carter, the supervisor of the call center of Washington DC, spent the entire night browsing the internet in her office who is looking down on the operator responding calls while she ignored them. It gonna be her superior problem.
